Another day passed, and another dread filled war came to pass. This is what life in the human world, nay, all realms at this point seemed to be.
Everything was cold as the shiver of war chilled down the spine of Iceland. With the autumn weather oozing over a wicked frost, the weather was quite bleak; as if matching the outlook of the world itself now that the curtains of conflict closed on all sides. The skies soon turned into a melancholy shade of grey and through the mist of sadness did the Shadow Fall troops storm into the city soon after. For, in the screams of men and women alike, did the echos of battle roar throughout the corners of the city and soon did a tinted barrier with a nasty shade of black consume the city like a disgusting infection.
Yeah. That was the right word to use for this war. It brought forth the feelings of unrest, uneasiness and sense of dread for the oblivion that was sure to come for many of those who took part in such a bloodshed. And for some -- it brought forth the errors of previous clashes. Ones which caused a lifetime of nightmares and anguish for a spirit. This would be such the case for the Sixth Archduchess of Shadow Fall: Saiko Mori -- The Gotei 13's demonic betrayer.
As she led a platoon of a few ten thousand men to the out lands of the city to face the enemy, imagery of former wars bled into her mind and instilled a sense of terror and anxiety. Flashing back to the visuals of Demonic Incursion, the holy war waged within the Soul Society burned within the tainted Shinigami's mind as recollections of the many former comrades she slayed with her hands rushed into to the maiden's consciousness.
As these scorching reminders of days past melted through Saiko's mind, the heartbeat of The Archduchess beat like mad. It was if someone had their foot on the accelerator and never let go. Her body became as light as feather, perception as distorted as static on the TV and nauseous gnawing like a parasite within the gut. Yes, this anticipation within The Void Enigma's body was par for the course when it came to any battle or mission waged for Shadow Fall. Yet, in wartime situations, this absolute horror exploded tenfold and she would once again be forced to face the demons of the past in the present as the gears of conflict shifted.
Yet, these feelings of internal horror could not be indulged for long. As if cutting through the fabric of existence itself, a blackened void opened in a horizontal fashion across a mile region. With this bleeding hole slashed through the lands did ten thousand of Shadow Fall's Sixth Circle agents come storming out to combat the threat of The Vanguard. Ready to put the hurt on their mortal foes, it did not take long for the sounds of swords, echoing gunshots, roaring of screams and rumblings of explosions to fill the out lands of Akureyri.
For miles on end within these mountainous ranges, the virus of war injected itself into the soil of Shadow Fall's home. While the Vanguard put up a valiant fight, they were on the turf of their enemy and this enemy had a heavy advantage in numbers and resources. Thus, the initial result was one where mounds of Vanguards operatives were being slain in higher numbers than Shadow Fall's own. Of course, many types of demons, hollows and Arrancar's were killed in dozens, but they were being killed in the hundreds and eventually reaching the thousands after the first half hour of combat.
Therefore, the heat of battle was raging on and the likes of Saiko Mori seemed to otherwise be leading her men straight into the depths of hell itself with a terrified, but resolute direction. Thus, the scene would zoom in and The Archduchess soon found herself circled by hundreds of Vanguard operatives aiming for her head due to the position this woman held. She was to be a high-impact kill for her rank as being on par with a Captain. If they could defeat or kill her -- it would send a harsh message within the depths of Shadow Fall. So, many sorts of murderous, hostile and downright vile cries, stares and attacks were launched towards her way.
Yet, the pale white figure only let out a slight whimper and shielded herself against a barrage of projectiles in the form of a dense, black flame that erupted around her body. It corroded the many types of various bullets, arrows and energized shots thrown at her; much to their horror. As The Betrayer placed each of her cold palms through her raven black hair, this corrupted shinigami cursed with demon blood shut her plum eye and tried to drown out the sounds of the world.
"Please....stop.....I don't want this....you don't have to do this. Just go back to your own land....."
These petrified words were echoed out through the battlefield by Saiko's spiritual aura projecting her sullen voice. They were meant to try and reason with the men before they marched forth into their deaths.
"ARE YOU BRAIN-DEAD?! YOU CAN'T BACK OUT OF THIS NOW! YOU'VE REAPED WHAT YOU SOW AND NOW WE ARE TAKING YOUR HEAD, WHORE!"
One of the more livid and wild men shouted out a cry of rage as he stared down the sight of this pathetic excuse for a Shadow Fall operative. He was searing with sheer fury as she had no right to say such things after the horrors he had seen this organization do in the world. So, there was no going back on this road and he unleashed a burst of lightning strong enough to harm even the likes Saiko.
"...."
No response was given after that. What could she give as a reply? No. There was no exit. No exit at all.
There was only -- blood to be shed.
In response to this thought, the eye patch upon the Void Engima's left eye became devoured by a violet and midnight flame. An upsurge of energy was overflowing within and around The Demonic Shinigami. It caused her shade hued, hooded jacket and thigh-high skirt to flare violently against the harsh gust flooding the area. As she stood up on her own two feet once more, the tense Archduchess clenched her fist together and an outbreak of darkness choked the area. In this discharge of raw power, dozens upon dozens of Shinigami and Humans alike become a puddle of liquefied guts, skin, blood and organ. They dissolved and turned into their pure primordial essence as the flares from this diffusing fire outright broke their bodies down in an odious outpouring of death energy.
Hordes of more men and women alike soon screamed bloody murderer as the enemy went on such a vicious assault. Yet, from the point of view of Saiko, this was a terrified response to a group of people who refused to back down from a war they didn't need to fight. She had no desire to truly fight them, but her soul was long sold to demon-kind for the sacrifice of those she loved. Hence, in this depraved form would she fight against them and do nothing to stop the toxins of the devil itself from polluting her body.
Thus, in an cyclone blast of guilt, rage, fear and regret did The Archduchess of Shadow Fall dismember her foes. In one swift motion she forged a blade of shadowy flames and began the process of systemically cutting through all those who opposed her. Wave after wave, the bodies began to pile up and the blood poured down on Saiko's body like an unending rain. Skewered limbs, slain hearts, melted skin, dissembled eyeballs, torn guts and a cluster of mangled human waste piled up for hundreds of meters as Saiko let out her howl of anguish against her foes. The sobs were intense, but she knew she had to keep going through this river of death to make the pact she dealt decades ago become further fulfilled.
Even as many souls tried to fight back against this solo-butchering, The Void Enigma did not cease in her outrage. For during this out lash did a holy arrow piece the medial section of Saiko's abdomen and cause a streak of soot, crimson and indigo fluids to become spewed out of her body. Despite these vital liquids leaving her, the adrenaline and fear was too much to for the tainted shinigami care. She just kept slaughtering and slaughtering until hundreds of men were left massacred in her weak.
After ceasing her movement in a graveyard of rotted flesh, The Archduchess began panting heavily, sweating and wiping away the tears of extreme excitement and began to calm herself down. This was what Saiko signed up to do when her spirit was sacrificed to these monsters, so she had to psyche up and move through the pain. The Betrayer had no one but herself to blame. For as she stood in this tomb of mutilated bodies, the words of those men rang with a sense of moral righteousness within the conscious mind of The Void Enigma. She had no right to say such idiotic sentiments, but this terror kept choking her up and she just didn't know what to do.
She wanted it to stop -- but it was just too late. It was far too late to recant such action and bloodshed. Hence, as more battlefields became craved out on this mountain of causality did the heaviness and impact of this war hit her hard. Standing firm in the blood of her slain enemies, Saiko stared at her soiled hands and understood the beast she turned herself into with this sense of inward cowardice and greed. No matter how much er anxiety screamed at her to flee, she had to own the sins of her past and walk forward with them for they were her choices coming to life and she was reaping what she sowed.
But, in spite of all this, the rotten soul of Saiko Mori managed to carry on and sing this song to herself to cope and take her worrying mind away from the sea of death before her eyes:
"This gravity is crushing me. The exit’s not here and so much doubt falls on me."
Following those heartfelt words, The Void Engima's face fell into a deep trance and a tendril of darkness extended from her back. It rattled and vibrated with peer malicious intent and was ready to kill on behalf of its master. Extending for roughly five fight and moving at break neck speeds, this appendage leaped into action and crushed five humans to death on impact. With blood dripping from this shade tentacle, the body of The Archduchess went into an automatic state of fighting and she drifted further away into her disjointed state of being:
"I can’t stop myself from looking behind from the end, I’m standing, surrounded, so close to the edge."
In a full 360 sweep, The Betrayer continued her murderous melody by severing the bodies of two dozen humans in half and leaving them nothing but bloodied stumps on the ground. The tendril compromised of pure onyx flames was now entirely covered in blood, but she still carried on:
"It’s getting dark and panic’s setting in. My spirit tumbles down into eternity, and I question if this soul of mine will ever find any solace?"
....
There was nothing left in the wake of Saiko's onslaught. Not a soul stood and she was left alone. There was now -- only silence this battlefield. At least, if one discounts the echoing sounds of far-off battles quite a ways from this burial ground of Vanguard operatives.
Thus, Saiko was left to stare into the dimming clouds. The slaying could end for now and Saiko closed her eyes to further meditate and ease the tensions brewing within her body. During this down time, she uttered out one more verse of her solemn song:
"This feeling’s setting in and I am faced with a sudden silence. This sight I see is confusing me and I wonder if I can be seen......."
