The Fatal Impact [OPEN COMBAT]

THE STARS YOU SEE IN THE NIGHT SKY HAVE BEEN DEAD FOR CENTURIES
☾
Artist: Dead Can Dance - Song: Crescent
//Anyone is free to join, but bear in mind that both Jaquinda (3-5) and Ráya are Adjuchas class menos who are fighting in the Forest of the Menos, beneath the sands of Hueco Mundo.//
There are two ways of attaining an important end, force and perseverance; the silent power of the latter grows irresistible with time.
For days and nights she stalked her prey. A singsong of shredding stingray skin was to be her reward. At least that's what she expected. Jaquinda fought numerous Adjuchas before, and none seemed to be a match. Outmatched, outmaneuvered, outflanked they all were. This one was different. On this occasion, she was on the retreat. And right from the start.
- It seems I've caught you flat-footed. That is quite an achievement for someone with an avian form like you, don't you think?
His mocking tone only added insult to the injury. The giant bone-trees of the Forest of the Menos echoed as she was pinned to the alabaster bark, a serrated, bleached lance of treachery pierced her left wing, nailing her to the tree like a butterfly on display. Do not judge a book by it's cover, they say. Ráya, her opponent seemed to be nothing more than a pushover with his weird, kite-like appearance and small, almost humanoid stature. She swooped down on him at the start, unaware of the hidden spike set in the base of his long lash-tail.
A brief struggle, a violent shriek akin to that of an overly large bird of prey...and finally, another thud and crack, almost simultaneously. Another thorn rammed into her, this time from a shorter distance, splitting the sturdy bones in the base of her wing.
- Is this really the end? How disappointing. - Ráya exclaimed, stepping out of the shadows to show his hideous form to the unlikely prey of opportunity that presented herself on a silver platter. Seven feet tall he stood, his greyish-white flesh covered with glistening, kite shaped scales. Were it not for his lack of legs, he would have seemed more of a flying squirrel than a stingray. His mask, a serrated collar covering a circular, nightmarish mouth was nothing pleasant to look at, even compared to the usual repulsiveness of the Adjuchas class.
- What a world, what a world. To think that someone of your nimbus would run into the knife I conceal the least...if it wasn't so pitiful, I could at least have a good laugh.
He suddenly dropped to the forest floor, on all fours, raising his tail above his back like an angered scorpion. A yellow orb of light enshrouded his raised tail end, crackling, sizzling with bands of lightning, as if it could burst at any time. Towering black silhouettes and red, hungry eyes appeared in the trees around them, and a faint choir of howling Gillian could be heard, closing in on them.
- Sadly, I do not have the patience to wait for the poison to finish you off. Someone might interrupt us here, after all. So tell me, which part of you should I ruin first? Or will you disappoint me in death aswell? Cero!
The air, already heavy with reiatsu almost ignited as Ráya released the blast. If it weren't for the immense, blinding light, he'd have seen the female's skeletal hand sinking into her mangled flesh, to enforce the rule of the knife.
- Ruptura.

An eye-searing flash drove away the murky darkness of the forest, and a thundering blast echoed through the woods soon thereafter, followed by the cracking of colossal bones and the stinging smell of scorched flesh and burned feathers. Black plumes of smoke soon filled the area, and the spiritual pressure of Ráya's opponent vanished without a trace.
- Hmm. I might have overdone it a little. What good is a hunt for when there is nothing left of the prey?
He stepped closer, and with a forceful sweep of his finned arm he cleared the smoke which covered the site of the slaughter. What he saw however didn't quite match his expectations. The pinned wing was a mangled mass of incinerated flesh, only a few large, oily black feathers slipped towards the ground on sleds of oozing-boiling blood. A pleasant sight one might say, except that the ruined stump once connected to the avian advesary was cut short - no, separated from the victim.
- Bastard... - he spun around instinctively, but his sharp dagger-tail howled through the damp air without finding its mark. Retribution for his overconfidence only came afterwards, from a domain he ruled unquestionably until now. The sands beneath him erupted with a violent burst, and a sharp bone-beak sought to savage the hole where his heart once lied. This was not a training session or mock-fight between equals. This was a battle of raw instincts, a grisly grapple for survival, where the loser would be devoured in a most unsightly way.
The thrust missed its mark by a few inches only, and the black-tipped claws rammed themselves into the area where a human's liver would be. They sunk deep into the flesh, sending a spray of black-red ichor toward the elongated bird-skull which emerged soon thereafter. The other hand grabbed his tail firmly, trying to secure the only weapon she perceived.
- How dare you attack me from below! The audacity...is unspeakable! - Ráya hissed, releasing a vast burst of reiatsu and retaliating with a punch that could shatter the skull of an ox. It was enough to release him from the grip, but his treacherous opponent pressed the assault on with an unspeakable fury, seeking to end this fight in an instant. Her remaining wing lashed out mid-air, smashing him into another skeletal tree. A long, lightning shaped crack ran rampant on the greyish bark. The female landed only a short stride away, clutching her demolished wing-stump in pain.
And then the bird maw opened up wide, with a bone-chilling screech. A fulcrum of dark purple energy began to swirl between her beak - behind the mask, a pair of seething silver eyes could be seen.
- Perish.

The robed man's gaze drifts to his right side. The flesh which shields his golden hues lowers mere centimeters: Gillians were moving en masse. Likely towards the column of smoke in the distance, where an immense amount of reiatsu was being released. The violet-haired man arises from his seating upon a pale branch, exhaling softly behind his jaw-like mask. Once standing tall and proper, he sets his hands upon the sash around his waist, his thumbs hooking on the inside of this fabric.
"Not often a dispute becomes this aggressive. Seems worth investigating."
As the Arrancar finished his musings, his legs crook just at the joints. The limbs swiftly straighten while his weight is shifted forward, and he propels from this branch. Mid-flight, his form visibly flickers out of view only to reemerge, landing upon another branch about thirty meters from his prior position. The man leaps forward, utilizing his Sonido in the same fashion so that he may arrive at his destination more swiftly than by conventional means. Approximately five minutes transpire before he arrives at the site of carnage , hunger, and hatred. THe left side of his brow elevates across his forehead by two centimeters while he examines the situation below. Two Hollow -Adjuchas, judging by the sizes -in pitched combat. Likely aseeking to devour one another, or settling differences the only way beasts know how to. The man cringed behind his mask as he bittterly remembered those days eons ago.

Only seconds passed after the Arrancar's arrival when the dark purple Cero was released from the smaller Hollow's beak. It ripped through air, flesh and petrified wood, barely passing between two Gillians which turned their masked heads in primitive contemplation. They were closer than either of them thought, and it was only through their reactions the female noticed a foreign presence. The two of them expelled an exorbitant amount of reiatsu - ironic as it might seem, the shattered mask seems to bring with it a higher degree of subtlety and finesse, making it possible to go unnoticed by such bestial beings.
She raised her head but slightly, correcting her tormented, crooked stance . Her body shivered, but the clawed hand which grasped the profoundly bleeding wing-stump slowly receded to reveal a wound almost closed up.
Silence.
The bird Hollow tried to locate the newcomer by the means of sight and hearing, but her efforts were in vain. The wound she suffered was not enough to faze an Adjuchas, but the female was still trembling for some reason. Poison maybe? Not content with the idea that the sudden change of the Gillians' behavior was just a fluke or a reaction to their fight, she extended her bloodied arm and released a visible glow of her dark purple reiatsu around it. For a moment, nothing happened, until the aura of the Gillians' next to the Arrancar started to expel the same energy. Their scent was one of fear and wonder. She saw with their eyes.
- Arrancar? - she said in surprise. Frightful, smoke grey eyes flashed in the shadow of her mask.
A lapse of awareness, a moment of hesitation. Then the Menos stepped forward, their hulking forms closing in on the newcomer. Their howling soon became a symphony of savage hunger and primal fury. The female chose to ignore the intruder and dashed towards the shattered tree Ráya - or what remained of him lied, most likely to finish off her prey before turning her attention to the Arrancar. A single swipe of her wing whirled up a maelstrom of sand and dust - not just a brutish attempt to boost her speed.
No, a measure to win time and conceal herself. A sign that she respects the power of the shattered mask.

Rafael only watched for a moment, following first the Cero's trajectory, then the movements of this avian Hollow. Partially because the dust had shrouded her form, the man turns his sights upon the impending Gillians. Even if they were not terribly bright or swift, he knew weel they were not to be looked down upon. It seemed doubtless they would make their move soon.
"Perfect," the Arrancar thought aloud. His right arm is raised beside his skull before he rotates his shoulder and bends his elbow. His palm then came into contact with the black grip hovering mere inches from his scalp before his fingers coiled like serpents around the material. As his arm straightens, a bar of silver emerges reflecting what light there was in this stone-like forest. An immense blade nearly as long as he was tall had been drawn from its scabbard. A cold stare was locked with the Menos, whether they were aware of his presence or not.
Only a slight shift in his footing, and he abruptly disappears from the visible spectrum. One second he stood upon the branches, the next he descended upon the ground just past a Gillian. His right arm was crossed over his ribs, placing his sword by the left side of his body. The man's knees readjust after the landing, allowing his posture to straighten just as a gash forms across the Hollow's body. Compared to his Sonido, Rafael felt these creatures moved in slow motion.
"I could use the practice." The man swings his arm back by its proper side, simultaneously removing the beast's blood from the iron edge of his weapon. His skull pivots on the spine to grant him a look at the damage he had caused, as well as the other Gillians. His arms then arise, drawing close to one another. Once within reach, his left hand clasps around the lower potion of his blade's grip.

The towering creature got split straight in two by the force of the attack. Thick streams of its dark red innards fell to the ground with a disgusting splotching sound. For the Arrancar, bisecting the Gillian was as easy as pushing a child aside - they were nothing but mere beasts trying to lash out at a being akin to a demigod. Their ire was wild and vicious however, and huge, armored hands reached for the small creature as soon as they realized the fall of the Menos. One of them opened its ghastly mouth, revealing a globe of pulsing red destruction, which soon bursted out towards Rafael.
Behind him, the two Adjuchas' reiatsu flared up again. Ráya fought back fiercely, even after getting hit by the humongous Cero. He was infuriated, the very air was electrified with his golden aura of destruction. A crescendo of utter carnage ensued, and even without seeing the combat up close, one could easily feel the exchange of spine-wrecking blows and the shaking of the ground below.
A shadow passed over the Arrancar. He could hear the fluttering of wings. Small wings, not those of the Adjuchas. Two skeletal fisher-birds were circling above him for a short while, their wings adorned with pitch black feathers - just a short while later they flew over to a Gillian and made their rest upon its porcelain head, defiantly observing the battle below. Their hollow holes were clearly visible.

A faint sound indicated that this man was snickering behind that nightmarish half-mask of his. The man then uplifts his blade, the edge facing towards him as he slides his left palm from the grip up one of the smooth, harmless sides. The lids of his golden optics calmly slide to a close, concealing the world around himself from view just as a flare of reiatsu surged around himself.
"I suppose I should stop holding back. Now, Petrify, Alacrán." When the Zanpakutō's name fled from his hidden lips, the reiatsu took physical form. A storm of pale grey ash surrounded the man, twisting in a violent vortex as his power clearly spiked. The dust slowly descends like snowfall onto the hard ground below. The silhouette stood ominously within this not-yet departed cloud before a large, white, segmented tail lunged towards the hand which dared approach Rafael. A finely-crafted spearhead which rests at this limb's end embeds itself into the bony flesh of the malicious titan. While this couldn't be discerned externally, the blade possessed a small hole near the tip which served as a pipeline to pump the Arrancar's special Veneno into the Gillian's blood and muscle.
The figure opens his optics, turning them towards the oncoming group of giants and their amassing energies. The man's brow furrows towards the bridge of his nose as he uplifts both of his arms. Projecting from the space on his forearms just ahead of his elbows were two wicked-looking scythe-blades, white as the armor which now coated most of his body. At the very tips of these natural weapons, reiatsu gathers in the form of two small, ominous orbs of black and green. If one were to look from above, they'd spy that the fellow's arms were outstetched at a 45 degree angle, likely to target as many Gillians as possible. The orbs abruptly expand, then hurtle forward, their shape expanding into one of the largest ellipses seen. This beast had released two Ceros at the same instant.

Rafael released, and the red blast of destructive energy exploded in a split arc around him. His spiritual pressure was a finely crafted blade, led by marvellously clear killing intent, as opposed to the deafening aura of savagery radiated by his foes - especially the ones mauling eachother behind him. The tail-tip of Alacrán shattered the hand reaching for him with ease, and even the minuscule amount of his Veneno was enough to paralyze the entire arm of the creature within seconds, after which the appendage fell to its side, now limp and unresponsive. It turned his head in ponderous disbelief, seemingly trying to fight against the poison. It would come as no surprise that it's frail attempts were in vain. Such was the difference in power, such was the exorbitant gap which their evolution would never bridge. And even though it is known that the only things that drive these furnaces of malignant souls are hunger and the instinct of survival, the latter would get no opportunity to manifest itself anymore. They failed to realize that they would perish, even in the light of the expanding ellipse of energy that would send them to their oblivion.
The release of Rafael swept away the swirling clouds of dust and smoke around him, and as his Cero fell four more of the posessed Menos, he found that the battle had calmed down behind him, both in sound and power. The reiatsu of the Adjuchas faded, and a single glance over his shoulder can reveal that the savages were "gone". Traces of their fight still lingered around, but only a very faint radiation could be felt. And everything pointed at a seemingly impossible explanation...
They were fighting down below.
Within moments, a geyser of blood and ruined flesh erupted a stone's throw away. The stingray-hollow soon followed, shooting out of the hole in agony, pulling a coma of his own innards behind him. He was badly torn, and in flight, his tail was grabbed mercilessly by a thin, clawed hand adorned with bone armor and dark feathers, slamming him into the ground. A harsh ripping sound followed as the tail was ripped straight from Ráya's body, who let out a gut-wrenching howl to lament the loss of his appendage and primary weapon. The wound began to bubble and ooze. Regeneration? He crawled backwards, pulling the weight of his mangled body with the power of his arms alone, his circular mouth coughing up a dark red spray of impending death. The female lept out of the sands as if they were nothing but water - her ruined wing-stump started sprouting new life, as the first joint slowly started to grow out again. She descended upon the opponent, receding to all fours soon thereafter, sinking her long claws into the pulsating soft parts of the Adjuchas laying before her. The gurgling cries of agony started to become unbearable, and it seemed that even the Menos would just stare at this spectacle in terror - or perhaps, envy.
After the first, vitalizing bite, she twisted her head to see the Arrancar. The hollow birds began to circle over him again, radiating the silent threat of the unknown. Her form however, did not bear the pose of a beast triumphant.
Her thin, gore-laced mouth frowned beneath the mask as she lowered her head in exhaustion and regret. She raised her solitary wing and covered both her tattered body and that of her opponent, as if to hide her shameful state. Shivers of disgust rippled through the aura of the Adjuchas, but judging from her explosive stance, there was no doubt that she, as a being cursed with mistrust and fear, was ready to dart away - or towards her opponent at a moment's notice.

The Arrancar stared at his handiwork for but a moment. A long line of ruptures in the stone trees beyond, but more immediately, multiple eviscerated bodies, or what was left of them. There was still the matter of the Gillian which he had stung, as he hadn't taken into account his tail would be powerful enough to break the hand without injecting enough of his Veneno to fully paralyze the beast. The male takes a single step forward with his right foot, then another with his left, on and on it went ever-so slowly. Right, left, right, left, he continued on towards the Menos, and raises his right arm. This man was deliberately going for the intimidation factor as he turns the back of his arm, and the edge of his claw towards the weakened Hollow.
Once within reach of the gargantuan, Rafael lowers his right arm by his left thigh. A swift jerk of his elbow sends the blade arcing in an upward-diagonal. Blood gushed out of the newly formed gash and trickled down his blade to his arm. Perhaps most frightening was the lack of any feeling in his eyes. No pleasure, no hunger, no fury, just the stone-cold glare of a seasoned executioner. For lesser Hollows, he had a done a service and provided them quite a banquet. This was not the thought upon his mind as his attention shifts behind himself.
Firstly, he took note of the sudden absence of the Adjuchas. He was about to depart the vicinity when the very ground ruptured in a fountain of a mangled creature's insides, dying the pale sands with his crimson. The Arrancar then watched as the effeminate, and likely more humanoid of the two emerged from below. While his golden eyes watched her prepare to devour her conquest, he predominantly remained still as the trees surrounding them. Even the other Menos nearby didn't appear to bring him an apprehension. A reasonable lack of concern, no doubt, considering the immense damage he had dealt to their brethren. The only motion was the warning twitch with his tail, emphasizing the deadly blade filled with a seemingly infinite supply of a powerful toxin.

The Menos began to retreat as the Arrancar approached them - except the one paralyzed by Alacrán's venomous sting, of course. Their primitive herd instincts were good enough to discern they're no threat to either of these monsters, and abandoning one for the whole of the group would prove to be the right decision unless Rafael would pursue them and turn his back on the real advesaries - for whatever reason. It would take a while though until the small Hollow would crawl out of their hiding places or even notice the fading reiatsu of the fallen Gillian, for they knew they would suffer the same fate if they dared enter the giants' playground. The two black cormorants, familiars of the female Adjuchas apparently didn't mind the dangers at all, and descended upon the carcass defiantly to eat their fill before competitors arrive.
The feasting sounds grew silent and the Reiatsu of the stingray was engulfed completely by the purple-edged blackness, which thickened with each passing second. A clearly audible crackling noise accompanied the repulsive spectacle of her missing wing's skeleton taking form, and foul flesh soon started oozing from the joints to cover this mockery of life. She lay concealed still, but took a position more upright to relax her aching muscles. Her heavy breathing was horrifyingly distorted by the avian mask, as if a choir would mimick the sounds of a beast in an unholy cacophony. She sounded exhausted, but the weight of her immense reiatsu betrayed this apparent lapse of power.
- Are you in league with the court of Las Rejilla? - the Adjuchas asked. Her inhuman voice was thick with contempt.
