Vizard
General Information
Name: Hayashi Reiko
Appearance Age: 24
True Age: 612
Gender: Female
Overall Appearance
Personality: Although she is often in poor health due to a mild but chronic lung condition, Reiko is surprisingly carefree and calm. She lives mostly to enjoy life and to help others enjoy their lives. Smiles make her happy, and suffering makes her feel as if she’s suffering as well, and she cannot rest well if she knows somebody needs help and she can do something about it. She is respectful of other people’s wills when it comes to things like that though; if they wish to die, she won’t stop them. However, despite her will to help others, she can be rather vulgar or rude with her words, even though she doesn’t mean any harm; it’s just her strange sense of humor. She can also be very sweet with her words, but only when she feels like flattering people just for the fun of it. She’s usually rather blunt. Most of the time, Reiko is cheerful, with a smile on her face, but don’t let that fool you. She’s sly (in a good way) and slightly perverted, so at times she comes off as a bit creepy and crazy, which she doesn’t mind at all. Reiko doesn’t let others’ opinions of her shape her personality.
When not completing a task or doing something she loves or wants to do, Reiko is lazy and puts very little effort into what she’s doing. She can usually be found lounging around, drinking coffee, or chatting. She rarely puts in extra effort and it takes a lot of good bribes to get her to do so. Because of this, she doesn’t hold grudges and doesn’t try to get revenge since she just sees all that as useless and pointless action. She doesn’t quite forgive everyone either, but she treats most of her enemies neutrally, trying to stay out of a fight unless she’s forced to defend herself. She’s good at avoiding fights and has trained herself in honing her speed to do so. When in a fight, Reiko tries to finish it as quickly as possible; after all, extra time in a battle just means more work and less time to relax or help others who need it. While she does understand the concept of honor and generally follows the one-on-one battles rule, she would never stop herself from interfering in battle if a comrade is in grave danger. Reiko doesn’t care much about fighting fairly either; whatever advantages she can find in a situation, she takes them. One distraction, and she’ll be attacking. She sees no point in drawing things out or making them harder for herself. Although she acts much like a child, Reiko is actually clever and smart. She adapts to situations by thinking quickly on the spot; she rarely feels the pressure of combat unless somebody else is in danger or she is in grave danger herself.
Reiko is also extremely calm and isn’t fazed very easily. After all, she’s seen a lot in this long life of hers. She’s patient with everyone and puts up with almost everything with a small playful smile. It takes a lot to get her pissed, but her anger is a force to be reckoned with. She basically goes into a rage and starts relentlessly attacking or shouting at the offender, depending on whether she is in a battle or not. When she is in this state, it is usually best to get into an open space where she can’t grab anything to stab or whack with, or to hide in a good spot. She doesn’t calm down until she tires herself out, but luckily, she’s only been this mad once in her life. All the other times when she’s been pushed near the edge, her voice gets dangerously low with an angry edge, which usually does the job.
Reiko has a huge appetite, and as long as she finds food around, she is always eating. She always gets second, if not third helpings, and doesn’t pay much attention to manners at the table. She eats nearly anything edible and doesn’t care much about how her food tastes. Oftentimes, she’ll mix up random combinations of food and try them just for the heck of it, and then force-feed it to her friends and watch their reactions. Reiko eats even more when she’s upset; she just locks herself up with stashes of food, and eats while she sulks and thinks. Usually she ends up passed out. Luckily for her though, she’s usually optimistic about things, so she doesn’t get upset very often.
Appearance: Reiko is rather tall for a woman, with a slender and lithe body and a rather toned torso. She doesn’t have many curves but likes to show them off nonetheless. Her skin is smooth but pale in comparison to her jet-black hair and deep green eyes. She has a thin and pointed face with high cheekbones and thin lips that are often curved up in a gentle but playful smile. Her hair is extremely long; she has only cut it once in her life, and she takes great pride in it. One longer braided strand hangs down on the left side of her face, but the rest is put up into a ponytail, and since her hair is so long, she curls it up around her neck so it rests like a scarf on her shoulders. Her attire is simple: a white open robe and bright green cloth wrapped over her chest. The robe is tied at her waist with a sash. Reiko knows her outfit is rather strange for modern times, but she stubbornly insists on it. She hasn’t modified it in over two centuries.
Height: 5’8’
Weight: 118 lbs.
Zanpakuto (Sealed) Description
Zanpakuto Name: Shirohebi (White Snake)
Zanpakuto Spirit: Shirohebi consists of two spirits: one human and one animal. The human spirit is an small and thin girl with unusually pale skin and white hair. Her eyes are pitch black and seem to have no pupils, and her tongue is black as well. She rarely speaks, much to Reiko’s annoyance, but when she does, she has a child’s voice that echoes and resonates in the branches of Reiko’s inner world. She wears only white bandages, which are layered to create a sort of robe that drags on the ground behind her. In one hand, she holds a tall staff nearly three times her height, and wrapped around the staff is the second spirit, a pure white snake (who Reiko calls Hebi). It is huge in comparison to the girl (who Reiko calls Shiro) and like the girl, has deep black eyes and a black tongue. Surprisingly, Hebi does most of the talking for the two of them, and speaks with a man’s deep voice. It doesn’t move much, but sometimes unwraps itself from the staff and curls up around Shiro’s shoulders. They are both extremely serious, but occasionally, they’ll show an actual sense of humor. Like Reiko, both spirits have a sarcastic sense of humor and are calm, even calmer than Reiko. Hebi is more instinctive and impulsive than Shiro, who although is mostly silent, is also very wise, especially for a young-looking girl.
Zanpakuto World: Reiko’s inner world is very simple. It consists of the sky and a birch tree, which is upside down. The branches spread far and wide, and are covered in crystalline leaves, and the white roots of the tree extend infinitely into the sky, which is a bright blue with no clouds at all. When Reiko enters her inner world, Shirohebi and her hollow are seated in a large cave in the tree’s huge trunk.
Sealed Zanpakuto Appearance: Shirohebi is a double-sword zanpakutou. In its sealed state, Shirohebi takes the state of one katana, which Reiko wears across her back with the hilt above her right shoulder, and one tanto (dagger) which Reiko keeps strapped to her thigh in a sturdy leather sheath.
Release Phrase: Pierce the earth with fangs, make the skies shudder with anger.
Zanpakotu (Shikai) Description
Shikai Appearance: The tanto becomes a ten-inch thin needle-like blade that is attached to the back of Reiko’s hand by a steel band that runs around the hand. The katana stays normal, except for a white sash at the end of the hilt and attaches at the other end to the steel band on Reiko’s left hand. The sash allows reiatsu to flow freely between the two weapons. Reiko used to be disappointed by how simple her shikai looked, but after she realized its effectiveness, she stopped complaining.
Shikai Abilities: Shirohebi absorbs energy or reiatsu from wounds; Reiko absorbs wound energy using the needle-blade, which is solid and can block attacks, but cannot actually cause harm. She pierces her target (which can be herself, her enemy, her comrades, or any other being within reach) with it, and by doing this, she absorbs all the reiatsu/energy from the attacks that caused the wound or injury. Because of this, she takes away some of the pain that comes with it although she does not actually heal or close up the wound itself. The more serious the wound, the more energy she can take from it. This reiatsu flows through the white sash connecting her zanpakutou counterparts, and she can contain the energy in the sash, move a portion to the “offensive” part (which is the katana), or use it on herself or others. If she chooses to use it directly on a person, she can use it to heal and replenish their own reiatsu, but since this process takes some time and should not be interrupted, Reiko doesn’t use it in healing during battles. If she uses it in her attack, she increases the strength of the attack. This also applies to her kidou; a simple spell can be made stronger as long as she has the energy in her zanpakutou. However, if there are no wounds that she can absorb reiatsu from or she cannot find an opening to stick the needle into somebody other than herself, she gains no extra energy and can only rely on her own reiatsu until she gets a chance.
Zanpakotu (Bankai) Description
Bankai Appearance:
Bankai Abilities:
Hollow Mask and Inner Hollow
Inner Hollow Description: Reiko’s inner hollow calls herself Rika, after Reiko’s dead younger sister from Rukongai, mostly just to piss Reiko off. She is an exact replica of Reiko, except her hair is white and her eyes are red, and she is dressed entirely in a white robe with no other accessories.
Inner Hollow Personality: Rika enjoys playing around with Reiko and making her mad, much like a child. Reiko feigns anger just to please her but actually cares about Rika a lot. Rika never really meant any harm, and is fairly peaceful. In contrast with Shirohebi, Rika is rather immature, which Reiko finds to be annoying at times but also a refreshing change from Shirohebi’s seriousness. Rika is also easily embarrassed, so if Reiko wants to taunt her, all she has to do is make perverted jokes and Rika will go running and covering her ears.
Hollow Mask Appearance:
Hollow Form:
Hollow Powers:
Enhanced Strength, Endurance, and Speed: All of Reiko’s powers increase, especially her speed, which was already great in comparison to others’. She can also endure much more injury and time in battle, as well as exert more strength.
Dual/Enhanced Reiatsu: Since she is using her Hollow powers, Reiko’s reiatsu merges with that of her hollow, intensifying it greatly and giving it a more menacing aura.
Bala & Cero: Reiko can harden her reiatsu and use her energy to fire both Bala and Cero, although the latter takes her some time to form. She fires them from her index finger, like a gun.
Separate Powers: Since the source of her powers is different, Reiko can use either her Shinigami powers or Hollow powers when needed.
Telekinesis: Reiko can use her mental strength and willpower to move objects to her, such as her zanpakutou. However, she can’t pick up objects that are too heavy.
Resurreccion Abilities:
Background/Roleplay Sample
Background: Reiko was born in Yokohama, Japan, to a merchant father and a schoolteacher mother. However, she was born with a lung and heart condition, and although her parents spent hundreds to thousands of dollars to try to cure her, she lived in constant pain. Because of that pain, she often wished she could die as soon as possible and resented her parents’ selfish attempts to keep her alive. Finally, Reiko died on her fifth birthday after five years of pain and torture. However, held back by her parents’ cries and anguish, she couldn’t leave earth, and wandered around the house where she died until a Shinigami came to send her off.
Reiko ended up in Western Rukongai, District 61, and was quickly picked up by a small family who was coming back from a festival. They cared for her and loved her very much, despite Reiko’s oddness. For one, she experienced hunger, and secondly, she always had a strange aura about her. Many of the townspeople feared her and didn’t dare get close to her, but Reiko didn’t mind; she loved her family too much. Some years later, the family picked up another child, named Rika, and Reiko took a liking to her immediately even though her parents spoiled Rika so much. Reiko taught Rika everything there was to know about survival, minus the eating, since Rika didn’t experience hunger like Reiko did. The two sisters grew up with an extremely close bond. They planned to do everything together.
Everything changed one day, when Western Rukongai was rampaged by some hollows. Reiko’s family had been one of the first to be attacked, and their house was destroyed. Reiko’s mother and father were killed instantly, but Reiko and Rika survived with serious injuries. However, Rika was losing blood fast, and despite Reiko’s feeble attempts to staunch the bleeding, Rika died of blood loss. After that, Reiko drifted in and out of consciousness until a Fourth Division Shinigami found her and brought her unconscious body to Seireitei, where she was nurtured back to health. The Shinigami, sensing her spiritual powers, recommended her to enroll in Shino Academy, which she did.
Reiko had a fairly easy time in the Academy, and despite her poor health, she was top of her class in the Zanjutsu and physical areas. However, when it came to schoolwork and written compositions and such, Reiko was simply too lazy to care. She was out with friends much more than she was inside studying, and as a result, she didn’t graduate with the rest of her class. Reiko didn’t really care though. She continued to slack off, and stayed behind even longer until a visit from a couple of captains inspired her to work harder. She got through two years worth of work in one year, and passed, still top of the class.
Upon graduation, Reiko was assigned to the Second Division for her speed and agility, but she wasn’t quite happy there. Headed by a strict captain, the Second Division and Onmitsukido weren’t exactly the most cheerful bunch. Reiko still worked hard to obtain shikai though, since she was impressed by other shikai she had seen around the Gotei 13. A year later, during an intense chase with a larger hollow in the human world, Reiko obtained her shikai. Over the next decade, she honed it and discovered new ways she could use it, especially for healing.
One day, as she was healing a comrade, her captain discovered her healing abilities and Reiko was transferred to the Fourth Division, where her captain believed she would be better off. Reiko found herself much happier and cheerful there, but she still wanted to become stronger, not just a better healer. Because of her desire to get stronger, she went around, finding training partners, and often sparred with seated members of other divisions, especially the Fifth and Eighth. She rose quickly through the ranks of the Fourth Division and was to be appointed Lieutenant. However, a day before the appointment, when Reiko was 180 years old, she was sent on a mission with the Eighth Division to the living world. There, after everyone had returned to Soul Society and she and her current Lieutenant were cleaning up, her Lieutenant was attacked and knocked unconscious by a strange huge hollow. When Reiko went to defend her, her right arm and right side of her body was slashed open and she herself fell unconscious. Her body rolled down the hill and was caught under the bushes so that by the time people came to pick the two Shinigami up, her reiatsu was too weak to sense and her body too well-hidden to find. Little did she know that during that encounter, a piece of the hollow’s mask and some of its reiatsu had become embedded in her flesh.
Reiko was on the brink of death when a Vizard found her and nurtured her back to health. He had sensed something about her that made them want to help. When Reiko told him her story, his suspicions were confirmed; she was indeed a Vizard, or at least on her way to becoming one. After some time, she went into her Inner World to battle for control over her soul, and her Vizard friend watched over her as she did so. It turned out to be a fairly easy battle as Rika wasn’t a difficult opponent, but at that time, when Reiko was still more naïve and easily hurt, Rika had an easier time taunting her and making her miserable. The battle drew on until Reiko, overwhelmed with everything, decided to get over it all, and she finally won control. However, during the process, Reiko had nearly lost control in the real world and had gravely injured her friend, who took his last breath as Reiko herself awakened and her hollow shell cracked away. Reiko grieved for a long time, blaming herself and staying silent, but after some time, she felt even emptier and more despairing. One night, as she was lying on a rooftop thinking by herself, some of the Vizard Corps found her and offered her their company, so Reiko joined them. As the years passed, Reiko set aside those past memories and turned her face forward.
Role Play Sample:
Reiko stepped out into the living world slowly, savoring every last moment. It had been quite some years before she’d come here, but she remembered it well. Heck, she even vaguely remembered her childhood here, but those days had been torture, so she shook those memories away. She combed her fingers through her black hair and stared up at the gray skies. A storm was coming. She would have to finish this quickly before she was caught in the rain. Not that it particularly mattered, to her, but otherwise, she would probably stay here forever. Sighing, Reiko reached out with her senses, trying to locate one certain hollow; the one she was assigned to destroy. There were a few others in the area, considerably less powerful and nearly harmless, but she ignored them. Her eyebrows twitched as she caught a vague feeling of the hollow’s spiritual presence, and she turned, using shunpo to bring herself eastward.
As expected, the hollow was there, and at the moment, it was ripping a shed into pieces. It was a large creature, but Reiko knew that size did not necessarily signify strength. In fact, larger hollows were usually slower, as Reiko knew from experience, and speed was absolutely necessary if it wanted to survive Reiko’s attack. Perhaps shikai would not even be necessary for this case. Calmly reaching behind her back, Reiko unsheathed her zanpakutou. She moved in front of the hollow and stabbed, expecting to reach its mask, but still cautious; after all, she did not know its abilities.
Apparently, the hollow was stronger than she’d hoped it would be, for it raised a huge arm and blocked her attack with a grunt of pain as the blade drew some blood. “Hmph,” Reiko snorted. A pathetic attempt, but she silently applauded the creature for at least sensing her. She somersaulted once, landing on its shoulder, and sliced off its arm with a clean cut. The hollow roared in pain. Normally, Reiko would have felt a pang of sympathy, but long years of routine killing had made her immune that that. Reiko dodged a blow from the hollow’s other first, feeling wind to her right, where the fist landed. She jumped onto its head, and rolled aside again as the fist came pummeling down. Reiko turned halfway and sliced once more, this time straight across the hollow’s mask. As it collapsed and disintegrated, the hollow gave one last roar. Reiko looked back at the place where it fell, wondering for the briefest moment about the person it had once been.
