Full of Hate & Dread
Tue Jun 17, 2014 3:59 am
It's practically old news when a teenager tells others how boring schools are, and how almost every single teacher is out to grab and rip their tongues out. Students were practically bred with sayings that enforced how cruel the world was, and how it was based on the premise of "every man for himself." If anything, it was a dumb saying and Renzo will have no damn idea why it's so popular among teenagers; to hate school, to hate life and all that. Ironically, Renzo adopted that philosophy too. He promoted slacktivism by never participating in any activities, just having his legs kicked up onto a seat and letting others do most of the work while he also simultaneously picked his nose or something. He was, in one word, a hypocrite. |

The first day back at school after some time away is probably one of the worst. You get those inevitable looks from others that can be taken as if people are treating you like an outcast - though, Rin on the other hand was used to such looks. He hadn't been so popular to tell the truth when he had attended Karakura High prior to his year leave; he would always bring attention to himself in a negative way - whether it'd be pulling pranks or teasing others, if his actions gathered attention, he was content. He had just wanted to be noticed after all.
The rainy season was still upon Karakura but today consisted of overcast for the most part, forecasting to rain around the time school would end. But through all this, the humidity was something that would still stay, making the rain having not really any impact in the temperature but rather being plainly an advantage for those growing crops.
Rin's trip abroad had matured him greatly and as Rin stepped that first step within the grounds of the school he attended, he couldn't help but keep the single thought of wanting to be different - he wanted to make a friend, perhaps two. He didn't really want to be seen as the prankster anymore
and simply wanted to blend in with the crowd. He enjoyed the fact that there were a select few that knew of his heritage and he was careful with whom he told what he truly was to, in fact, Rin hadn't told /anyone/ of his true heritage and wanted it to stay that way for once. Hiis slight pointed ears in his human form could easily be concealed behind his blue spiked hair but his sharp fang like teeth were a little harder to hide; this meant that most he met may in fact catch on he wasn't exactly, 'normal' - and Rin truly hated that, being told he was an outcast, looked at like one or even treated like one. He hadn't ever asked to be this way and as it was a part of him, he had to live with it - why couldn't others?
The boy hadn't been in any of the morning classes, he'd only been in Karakura for a couple days now. He knew he should really spend a little more time with getting back on his feet but he finally deciding to go back to the school a few days earlier to begin his studies once again. The clock had only recently sent out the signal for the bells to ring out for the lunch hour - the cafeteria was packed with juniors to seniors. Having his next period as a free study one, Rin decided to enter the Cafeteria during the final ten minutes. His slender hands grabbed a tray as it was then soon pushed
against the metal poles attached to the kitchen walls, minute by minute piling up with food before he finally came to paying. His eyes looked around the Cafeteria room for a place to sit; even at this time, there were still way too many students eating, more laughing way too loud and Rin didn't really want to go anywhere near people he didn't know just yet. His boots stepped along the ground, the sound being mixed up in the midst of everything else going on before soon coming to a halt. The table his eyes locked on wasn't exactly empty and in fact as he came upon to it, a young female was just storming off. Rin looked over the man's appearance he had come across, his pink hair was certainly something new to him and the man clearly hadn't really come in to the Cafeteria to eat - the stale food lay by his feet that had been crossed upon the table casually.
It was only polite to ask someone if they could sit with them but it was also polite to not interrupt others if they were listening to music, Rin had always thought if someone had headphones on then it'd mean they clearly didn't want to converse with anyone. Confused slightly by the gesture, he brought his tray to the opposite side of the table - his bag quietly setting down on the chair adjacent to himself followed by the red long cloth that held his sword, Kurikara. Rin hadn't ever unsheathed such a thing on school grounds and had always tried to convince others that it was some sort of instrument; having a sword in school would have been the same as having a gun in school in some aspects. But Rin couldn't really survive that well without Kurikara by his side, it was the very sword that held his true power and being away from it wouldn't kill him but after sometime would certainly begin making him weaker and weaker.
The boy looked back up towards Shima quietly, watching the man's head bop to the track he was playing - Rin's sensitive ears twitched at this, trying to hear to what he was listening to but the sound only mixed upon the voices of everyone else in the room. With a soft sigh, his eyes locked back towards his own tray - beginning to eat before watching everyone else around the room, hoping that he could be involved in conversations soon with new-made friends.

Renzo could feel the outdoors rain shrouding him in some kind of gloom even though he was inside, and it was a bit... depressing. Every little raindrop signified the sweat and work he poured into his work as an exorcist, almost his entire life dedicated to the cause--to kill Satan. The music continuously blaring through his eardrums veiled the noise of the rain, but he could still feel each individual thumping channeling through his chest. It felt like someone was beating an instrument against his heart repeatedly, and it hurt. The good thing about rain was how soothing it felt, but its significance felt like it was doing the opposite. Renzo was uncomfortable. |

How I missed the food here.
Rin had to be remembered of the half-awful food that the Cafeteria served, it wasn't that the cooks were 'bad' - they were just following the recipes given to them. It was just the food had no 'real' flavour, despite the fact that they would often serve the unhealthy junk such as pizza, fries, that sort of stuff. It tasted more like it was simply produced from powder if anything, stored away for years or more realistically it was just the school being cheap and going with what would help them save budget.
The young boy's tray consisted mainly of noodles, soup and a small bowl of fruit - topped up with a carbonated water beverage. Yes, Rin was quiet, he hadn't said most of the day other than when paying for his lunch just a moment ago so even if he was acting normal, what he did next certainly didn't compliment that behaviour. He'd decide it to be a good idea to pour the whole bowl of noodles in to his soup and to anyone it'd be like a kid from back in kindergarten playing around with his food to hopefully create the next best creation for the world to taste. But, little to most know - this was different. Rin actually had experience in cooking and above all his studies he was taking upon abroad, cooking was something he had been doing on the sideline, perfecting it to the best of his ability. He had a long way to go to be considered a proper Chef, for one, he didn't even have a job as such and only really cooked for himself.
The noodles were mixed up with the chicken noodle soup before Rin soon applied the small satches of pepper and salt within the bowl he had acquired from back at the front-house of the Cafeteria. Shortly after, he'd be seen mixing everything up, eating it down quickly soon after and it wasn't until he had a mouthful of noodles that the other student he shared a table with actually spoke. This in turn made Rin jump, he hadn't seen Shima take off his headphones as he had been so engrossed in perfecting the food more.
"Nowhere to sit?"
Was what made him jump from his seat, his azure eyes looked upon Shima and the caring smile that was radiating off the pink-haired face. Slightly embarassed at being caught at a bad time, Rin quickly swallowed his food, using a napkin to dab at his face - double checking he had no stranded parts of the noodles around his mouth. Was he trying to befriend Rin? Yeah, Rin wasn't all that great with making friends and he was clueless to Renzou's true motives but none of that made him at least /try/ to strike up a conversation, hoping to befriend the boy himself. "I hope you don't mind me sitting here..." He finally replied after some thought in the reply, his eyes looking over the full Cafeteria before back towards Renzou. "I mean, if you'd like me to move I can - I have a free period next so it's not like I'm missing out on much..." The boy soon smiled back, a small shroud of hope inside him hoped that he was doing the right thing, saying the right thing. "I take it you dislike the Cafeteria's food as well, I don't really blame you..."
The smile soon turned in to a grin, showing his fang-like teeth as they beared over at Shima; it wasn't like Rin /wanted/ anyone to know what his teeth were like, he forgot half the time really and only hoped that the opposing person he was conversing with wouldn't say anything about it. "I'm Rin, nice to meet you."

Renzo put his legs down from the table, tapping gently on the floor to a nonexistent beat. His eyes were glinted in almost the same exact color as his hair, except maybe a little less brighter. The stale food stayed in front of him, so untouched that a random fly was convinced to hover around it like a relic. It even sat once or twice on it, but Renzo paid no mind to it. He wasn't going to touch the food yet. He'll probably dump it in someone's mouth who had the ability to digest food in extreme rates, like a walking garbage disposer. That's what he called anyone that was willing to take leftovers and get rid of it. Dogs tend to be walking garbage disposers. |

The little bites Rin had taken alone from his lunch were still enough to fill him up. He was a man with a huge appetite most of the time but he was still really recovering from jet-lag, the time difference was something Rin hadn't really thought off when on the plane back to Japan and it wasn't really until after he landed after the 14 hour flight that the need for sleep kicked in. Maybe if Shima or anyone for that matter spent the time studying Rin closely then they'd be able to tell Rin's tiredness from the slight dryness of his eyes or how frequently he'd yawn.
"You can stay all you want. It was getting lonely at this table anyways."
It wasn't long until the two began conversing, Rin sighed to himself in relief - quite happy he hadn't been kicked away from the table. It seemed the guy opposite him was just as cheerful as he was, it was quite rare to see someone so cheerful as a matter of fact other than himself. Most people probably found it weird to be over-excited or overly happy in a place that most would consider a prison, where teachers would lay work upon work for the students to do in aim to get them ready for their finals when truthfully it was taking their free-time away. It wasn't until the breaks or lunch-breaks you'd actually see people smiling really, happy to be free, even temporarily from the jails that were the classrooms.
"The food?"
Rin nodded as he looked upon Shima's food-filled tray once agian which at this stage one would be able to see an odd fly or two dancing around, trying to nab at something to eat. "The food's alright, I guess." That was something Rin also agreed with, it wasn't overly-disgusting and nor was it top-material; it could do with some improving but beyond all this; it was edible. "I'm just not that hungry today." Rin had an urge to ask why exactly Shima had even bothered to collect the lunch if he wasn't hungry but didn't really want to go prying, seeming like he was playing a game of 20 questions so he just decided against it.
"I'm Renzo Shima."
Rin grinned happily just as much as Shima had done as the two introduced themself; it was his first day back and he had already made a friend - at least that's what Rin saw it as. It wasn't really considered compulsary for one to ask if they'd like to be their friend, friendships just sort of formed, really. Though Rin really did think that the two were now friends, even if he couldn't read behind Shima's well faked-up attitude. He'd dab at his food once again, eating what he could before leaving the tray beside him, scooting slightly to one side so he was dead-opposite Shima now.
"Are you new here? I mean, like- did you transfer or anything? I don't remember seeing you before last year." The boy asked, he would've seen someone with Shima's coloured hair a mile away surely!
Perhaps it was weird for Shima to see someone, the very spawn of Satan, acting so innocent and happy. But truthfully, this is whom Rin really was. He didn't fight unless fought and if he could, he'd avoid using his flames but it was hard to avoid the inevitable. It would possibly come over a shock to others too if they heard that the Spawn of Satan hunted his own kind, demons. Kurikara was literally made to one day be broken so that the weilder, Rin, could unleash his full form and kill the innocent but that was actually Rin's worst fear and he'd do anything to prevent it from happening.

Renzo observed the demon child a little further, trying to analyze him in ways that made him something that... wasn't demonic. Rin seemed to behave far from a typical demon, and that was very interesting to the exorcist, at least enough to bring him closer to investigating through social interactions. One thing was out of the normal, and that was definitely Rin's state of consciousness. He looked tired like he went on a long roadtrip. Did he just return from wherever he left off to? Frowning, Renzo tilted his head in curiosity. Rin was just intriguing to him in ways that he never seen before. A demon, but also not a demon--it didn't make any sense, and this is coming from someone who prides himself on what of the best demon killers of all times. |

The smell of the food that blared out in the Cafeteria soon became immune to even the sharpest of noses in the room and after sometime, the Cafeteria soon began getting quieter and quieter before after a few minutes Shima and Rin were only two of about a dozen individuals within the room. The bell was about to ring which was in fact the reason to why the annoyance and dimmed down and the noises of those around the two were actually quite bearable to say the least. But now it had only come to attention that whatever you were to say, could easily be picked up by someone near - there were no longer sounds to get mixed and muddled up with the plenty other during the lunch hour.
"No, I'm not new. I've been here for a while,"
Rin had actually found himself almost near to yelling earlier when talking to Shima due to trying to amplify his tone over the overs and even though the two were just an arm reach away; the sounds of their voices could easily be unheard if not said loud enough. Anyway, it wasn't really until the young half-demon spoke next that he found himself trailing off, trying to adjust his pitch.
"Oh- I must've missed you, I guess it is a big school. Are you on the other side of the year group? You're a Senior like me, right?" If only Rin did know whom Shima truly was; he'd be able to easily then just pick up that the pink-haired lad was slightly confused at the way Rin was acting for someone that was a child of Satan. No one feared Rin, he wasn't a bully and it was only last year that he wasn't able to harm a fly. What he could do now was unknown but Rin never ever used his power for the wrong reasons. It must've been odd for Shima, the very fact that a half-demon was in a school, studying, befriending others, learning and helping those around him - it should be the very opposite, should it not? Rin should be taking after his father because like the very saying says; 'like father like son' but if anything, Rin was the most timid demon you'd meet.
"You probably didn't see me around that much. My hair used to be plain black,"
Ah, that'd make sense. Most of the other students' hair around here consisted of either their natural colours or dark hair colours. There was the odd dyed hair here or there though Rin's dark blue hair was in fact, natural. How? It was hard to tell really, perhaps it was due to the blueness of his flames but if anything; Rin was relieved his hair wasn't bright blue like the very flames themselves, it'd be somewhat embarassing.
"How about you? I haven't seen you before, Are you returning from somewhere?" Rin blinked, nodding slightly as his azure eyes turned back towards Shima after the quick skim around to the near empty Cafeteria now. He didn't care about the time, it was his free period now after all. He should be spending it studying but surely making a new friend out of the blue like this was something to pay more attention to, right? "I actually only a couple days ago returned to Japan, I've been studying out of the country for a year, more to near Europe. I guess I'm still trying to get over Jet-lag." He grinned slightly in a goofy state, scratching his head. "I'm staying in a hotel now until I look for a place, perhaps I should have waited a few days until attending school again but I was, honestly...excited to study. I want to be a famous Chef one day!" The boy's eyes filled with hope and passion as he spoke just for a split second about the thing he truly loved, cooking.
Yes, he was a half-demon and had the word death attached to his soul but if anything, his true heritage was just a small sized-font that was a part of him in the midst of everything that made him, Rin. His love for cooking, and the pranks he'd still do from time to time - he really was a normal kid, that was of course, if you didn't piss him off about being a demon.
Rin stood soon after, grabbing Kurikara and his bag after deciding to go back up to the roof to where he normally had gone before his leave. "I normally study up on the roof, would you like to come, Shima?"

It seemed like time was already going by quickly. The people that once littered the entire cafeteria wasn't there anymore, only a trail of trash was left where they stood. Custodians walked about trying to clean the area, much to their chagrin. Renzo frowned in sympathy for them, but didn't have the heart to stand up and help. At least not while Rin was standing in front of him in all his vulnerability. The best part about an almost empty cafeteria was the plethora of noise dying out, completely squashed out of the room with their mediums--the people. He was extremely happy his primary source of annoyance was gone now. Now he could focus purely on the demon spawn in front of him. |

"Yeah, the school is pretty huge. Did you see the database for the school centuries ago? Pretty insane how it looked back then. Everyone was normal,"
Rin couldn't help at some stage glance around the near-to-empty hall, as if he were studying the hairstyles and colours of everyone else for once; almost as if he had completely ignored what Shima had said, not by purpose of course. It was nice how the school didn't have any rules against coloured hair, allowing the students to express themselves which most schools lacked. Rin had hoped that Shima didn't question the boy as to whether his natural hair colour was black or some other opposite colour, it'd be a little awkward otherwise and Rin truly wouldn't know whether he should lie to say it was dyed or do the stupid and explain the colour of his hair was due to the fact that he could scorch others alive with his flames.
"Europe, eh?"
If Rin could, he would go on a tangent about his journey around Europe. He had stayed in a somewhat small village but one of which had a great educational
facility. It was unknown to others how someone whom was so poor could even afford something like that but it did him wonders that was for sure.
He had seen many sights and it truly had been a trip of a life-time that being sat in the Canteen like this almost made the past experiences some amazing dream.
"Mh!" Rin agreed, nodding - his sharp teeth bearing again. "You should go sometime! The sights are great, churches everywhere! The weather is a lot more cooler, too."
Although Rin wasn't quite accustomed to the sudden change in weather, going from such high levels such as 40C at some days here in Karakura to less than half of that, he really didn't care at the end of the day - he was able to breath in fresh air and not have all that muggy humid-like air following it. He almost missed that weather.
"A famous chef?"
Oh, how Rin adored cooking. He longed to do something in his life that would make him well-known, he'd have his own cookbooks, shows, book signings! Rin had quite an imagination that stuck with him even during the past High School years. "You can cook?" Rin didn't really know how 'good' his cooking was, he'd cook when he had the money or ingredients and then simply allow everyone to have whatever he's cooked up for free. "I like to think I can." He grinned once again, not wanting to seem egotistical at all neither
looking down upon himself too much. "I'm more of an experimenter, I like to follow recepies but at the same time I like to follow my own. You can't be a famous Chef after all if all you're doing is following everyone else - I guess that applies to any job really, everyone's unique, right?" That's how Rin looked at it, anyway. If you want to be well-known or get credit and recogition in something, you
need to excel at that thing in such a way that you're not following anyone, being independant is what got most people places.
"Sure, why not? If you can ignore the rain, I guess."
Ah, it must've been raining somewhat by now though Rin didn't really mind. As Shima picked up Kuk'ri, Rin's eyes were locked somewhat upon the odd-shaped stick, not really knowing what exactly it was...or meant for. Was it a walking stick? Shima seemed to walk fine though which is what Rin saw as he was soon overtaken with Renzou himself. "Let's go then, shall we?
The boy shook off the questionsthat suddenly came to mind as he grasped on to Kurikara's cloth strap upon his shoulder, following Renzou towards the roof. Upon reaching the top of the stairs, the door was soon opened and Rin soon got up to the quiet area. It was quite high up, a fence would raise even higher though it wasn't the most sturdy of things, a chair could probably be thrown against it and fall straight through. The tiled pavement ground had droplets of rain casted upon it from where the sky had been spitting every now and then.
[color=blue"Not many come up here, I don't know why..." [/color]Rin mumbled, more or less to himself as he emerged fully to the roof, reaching the fence before looking out towards the City, his fingers on his right hand danced around the wiring of the fence quietly as if in thought. "So, what class are you in, Shima? Do you do anything outside of school?"
Hon Hon Baguette.
