7 years after entering the soul society he was a 5th seat with a shikai and almost at bankai
then Aizen called hi in on day and asked to meet with him privately in the sewers

the last thing he saw or remembered was seeing Aizen in the sewer
Aizen had burned all documents of his existence no one knew who he was anymore... and thus his life as a rogue shinigami began- no memory's and only know his zanpakto.
