Song: The Dalek Theme; Artist: Murray Gold

A great gust of wind blew across his back, sending the cape upon his body fluttering up into the air with a great cacophony of noise. Bright blue eyes looked out over the great expanse of city, covered in a dome and filled with the noises of laughter and screaming. In his right hand was a singular chess piece; in his left, nothing but air, clenched in a fist. Throughout the fifteen thousand years that he'd been alive, there had been nothing in the world that he'd ever been able to see that was anything like this. This world, this city, this place that was cut off from the rest of existence... the madness within this place that he sought only to destroy. "This illusion... it will be shattered by the truth!" Taking a few steps forwards towards the edge of the building, a singular dress shoe was put upon it, his toes hanging over as he stared down at the people below with an expression that appeared to be only worry. This place needed cleansing, and it would take the combined efforts of all of the people in this place without the madness befalling them to do so. Closing his eyes briefly, he let his mind wander back to those tempting golden butterflies that he'd seen, just after he himself had reawakened in this world.

No, this isn't your doing, Endless Witch, Beatrice. Even you are not this mad. Sending out a long exhalation of breath, Ushiromiya Battler held out his right arm, opening his fingers and letting the chess piece drop to the ground from up in the sky, falling down eight stories, gathering up speed as it did so. Landing upon the cemented earth, it shattered into dust, being nothing more than a fake, made of casually crafted spiritual energy. A menial task for such a powerful Magus. Stepping forwards onto a few steps made of his own Reishi, Battler slowly started to walk forwards and outwards, approaching the building to the other side. It would be a simple walk for one such as he--or it would've been, had the next event not occurred. From the ground below, he heard a noise that started to fly up through the air. His eyes turned to look for the source, before feeling it hit below him, pushing him up into the air. His body flew through the air itself, causing him to shout outwardly as he went to at least twice the height of the first building, before slowly turning on his arc and starting to fall slowly and surely back to the Earth below. He would be badly injured at this distance, he just knew it. Closing his eyes, he willed himself to fall in a proper direction. Something, anything, just let me land safely without injury!

ACTIVATED

He felt it. His Magecraft that activated when the odds were lesser, at best. Time froze, and the first number moved into place. Not sure of the result--he wouldn't be until he knew the result of his Miracle, he waited as he fell further through the air. Closing his eyes, he heard the beating of his heart increase in speed and power, something that always happened when he activated his Magecraft. He felt the magical energies in the air expand around him; fluctuating, moving, fluttering, disappearing, reappearing, blacking out. He fell into darkness, his vision completely taken over by the feeling of nothingness, his body streaming through everything until it finally reached an endpoint and just... stopped. The darkness faded, leaving his vision perfectly clear of the streets around him. He was safe. He was... safe. It succeeded! Thanking his lucky stars, Battler quickly summoned up his Golden Sword and looked around, waiting patiently for the next being to approach him. He would fight if needed, but he wanted nothing more than to fix this city. This wonderful place... needed to be saved.

A Mad Miracle [Open] Empty Re: A Mad Miracle [Open]

[Kishur Zelretch Schweinorg]

A city engulfed in madness - well, now that was a true beacon even through time and space. Many a galactic mystery could feel it existing at this specific point, on this specific date, like a big road sign on the path of time that read "Here is the way to Madness City!", in a language that only few could understand. Obviously, space and time are not really a small place - the chance for someone able to comprehend the signals to actually float by at the correct time was rather slim. Thankfully, for once, someone was searching for signals like these... A man that maybe hailed from earth, or maybe not, holding a crystal in one hand and a cane in the other. And with a smirk, that man surrounded by reflections of light floated right to where the intergalactic beacon was pointing...

So now it happened. Only a few meters away from the Magus of Miracles, the air suddenly... cracked. A sound as if a big rip would appear in paper, it instead occured free-floating in mid-air, as if someone had forgotten to finish creating space there... And the rift was expanding. Slowly opening upwards and downwards, the fabric of this reality was churned up - whatever was behind it, engulfed in a white light, could not be seen, until a vaguely human-shaped black shadow blocked part of it. Said shadow did a step forward, out of the rift and right into Madness City - and with a small snap and electric wavering sound, the portal fell shut behind him, disappearing into light, as if it had never even existed.
And the figure it left behind - the shadow - finally took on form. A rather tall person with slightly odd clothing, and a shimmering crystal sword in his left hand - with a twirl of his wrist, he then threw that shard into the air, and with a short blink of light, it was gone, disappeared just like the rift that had just produced this weird person, who had yet to actually notice the Magus. Leaning onto the cane in his right hand, the man then looked around up into the sky with a weird smirk.
"Ah, Madenise City! Known for fantastic technology keeping it going this far north, a lot of fantastic people, and... Well, this isn't quite what I imagined." The slight chuckle dried up as quickly as it had reached the weird person - his eyes that had just oogled the skyscrapers and other buildings seemingly gazed through the concrete now, as the screams and laughter echoed into his ears, and with a sigh, he turned around - only to finally notice the miracle worker infront of him. And then, with a single laughing noise, a bright smile returned to his face.
"Well, hello there!" A quick step forward, and the world-jumper stretched out his right hand towards the Magus - after switching over his cane to the other. "How nice to meet someone who has not yet inhaled too much of the air here! Honestly, I was hoping to reach the city on a point before the disaster, but we can't all be perfect, now can we? I'm the Second Mage, Zelretch - quite fantastic to meet you." Zelretch identified himself - while talking so fast that one could mean he had swallowed a motor over in his rifts. "I don't actually plan on staying for too long, but I thought I might as well introduce myself. Would be quite rude not to do that!"

Song: The Pandorica Artist: Murray Gold

Sound. Sound was either a good thing or a bad thing, depending on what noise it made and from whence said noise came. If it was in a nice direction, or it was a nice sound, that made Battler happy. Because nice sounds were nice, and they should always be regarded as such. However, not every sound in this multiverse of multiverses was a nice sound. Sometimes, there were sounds that were just plain bad, like the sound of drums, playing over and over again in the back of one's mind. Battler didn't experience that, personally, but he was certain that it would just turn him plain mad. Let's not have that happen, alright? Right. Okay. Anyways. Back to the source of this new-fangled sound. It seemed to be rather interesting, to be quite honest. It was the sound of paper being ripped. So... to define it, it was a nice sound. Or at least a non-threatening one, unless someone was opening a bill of some sort--jeez, what if it were a court summons? Did Sugiura even go to court? Well, no matter. It was the sound of paper being ripped, and as Battler turned his head to view the source, he watched a rift open. With his own knowledge that he'd gathered from the Root all those years ago, he could already tell that this was something to do with space and time. So that meant... time-traveller? Hmm, interesting. Turning to face him, Battler put his srsbizness face on and watched something appear from within. It was a strange figure; one that he didn't quite recognize yet. Stepping out of this rip in time, however, was certainly far from what he had expected, that was definitely for sure.

He was tall--maybe about Battler's height, maybe a little taller--who cared for the fact. He was wearing rather odd clothing, certainly ones that didn't qutie fit in the time period, definitely sustaining Battler's original time-travel theory. A crystal sword was there, and then it was not--was that what he was using for his time travel? Battler would never know, most likely. Instead, he would watch the man with this strange outlook and appearance step in front of him. He had a cane in his right hand, upon which he'd leaned upon. Hm. Alright. Finally taking all of this in, Battler regained his utmost in composure, quietly staring at him as he finally started to speak. "Ah, Madenise City! Known for fantastic technology keeping it going this far north, a lot of fantastic people, and... Well, this isn't quite what I imagined." He chuckled himself as the man's chuckle faded, looking up and around himself. Yeah, this isn't what anyone would really imagine. "South. We're in Antarctica." He half-smirked, placing his hands into his pockets. "Well, hello there!" Oh, NOW he noticed him? Turning to face this man properly, the Sorcerer of Miracles watched as the cane was deftly moved from one hand to another, and then the previously-holding hand was extended for a shake. Holding out his own right hand, Battler accepted the shake with a smirk. No reason to be worried--this guy seemed nice enough. "How nice to meet someone who has not yet inhaled too much of the air here! Honestly, I was hoping to reach the city on a point before the disaster, but we can't all be perfect, now can we?" He laughed softly, shaking his head. "Can't expect things to go our way all the time. It's up to chance, is it not?"

"I'm the Second Mage, Zelretch - quite fantastic to meet you." Battler blinked. Well, how to introduce himself with someone who had such a simple title? Actually, that name did seem familiar... Flicking back through his memory, he blinked. Zelretch, Zelretch, Zel...oh, alright. That explained a lot. Although he had only been the Lord of Rokkenjima itself for a little while, he had heard all the usual stories of the time-travelling madman who had run the Clock Tower since its beginning, and all that. "Isn't it a little too early in your timeline for us to be meeting?" Saying something so brazen out loud, the man then gave a light shrug as he shook his hand and let go. "Or maybe it's the right time. Ushiromiya Battler, Endless Sorcerer. I have a longer title, but it's far too pretentious for my tastes." He laughed casually, and looked back up at the sky. "I don't actually plan on staying for too long, but I thought I might as well introduce myself. Would be quite rude not to do that!" He nodded to himself for a second.

"Mm, wouldn't be half-bad an idea to just leave myself, but I've got this lingering feeling that I need to stay. Usually happens, once or twice. Miracles, eh? They only ever tell you what they think you need to know." Taking a few steps forwards and past the not-so-strange-yet-very-strange-indeed stranger, Battler took in the visage of the city one more time. "Yes, no, I can't leave. There's something I must do. I understand that you've got a lot more going on than there is in my usual little existence, but I can't stand back and let this city die." He nodded. Hopefully, he wasn't actually wrong with all of this strange information that he'd gotten--a little bit of it from reruns of this old 2000s-2010s show from England, about a time-travelling doctor in his blue box. Strange show, that, but very good to watch. Great story and all. Most of these things he said were just assumptions based on that.

A Mad Miracle [Open] Empty Re: A Mad Miracle [Open]

[Young Zelretch]

The mage with the odd clothing surely had his amount of fun right now. This Battler fellow was quite, in his own words, 'fantastic' for a... Was he a Sugiura as well? Now that was quite interesting, to see Shimura's little children around in this age! He had never travelled so far into his own future yet, and was halfway expecting his own older self to turn up. But hopefully he wouldn't, Zelretch really didn't want to deal with another himself, one was more than enough! So with a smile, the weird traveller just kept on talking and chatting with his fellow magician.
"South. We're in Antarctica."
"Right, right! North, south, east, west, always getting them confused. How was that, the sun goes up in the east? Or was it west? Ah, really, all these planets make it confusing to remember. Just recently I was on a moon in a twin-star system, so how do you decide it there? Terrible things one has to endure to see things, really terrible." Another slightly mad ramble from the smiling mage, but he was neither blocking out Battlers next words nor ignoring them. After all, he was also a gentleman and good fellow, or at least he liked to see himself as that. His old enemy, the Archetype of the Moon, probably had a vastly different opinion on the entire matter.
"Long titles, yes, long titles. Always found them annoying, but people just keep handing them out, do they not? Talking, talking, giving you names and lands and whatever, but it never holds any meaning. Shesh..."
And finally... Zelretch quieted down. Mostly because of how Battler was talking now - about how he had to stay here, how he had to defend and save this city. All this talk of being heroic tended to give him headaches, but miracles? Those intrigued the wizard. But not enough to risk his skin for a random city, oh no! His newfound acquaintance would have to deal with that by himself.
"Ah, well if you have a drive to save this city, I won't get in your way, really now, why would I? Good goal, and all that. But time is a wimy blimy ball, you see? I can rewrite parts, but others are fixed in time. Trying it out on every single occassion is tedious, so I'm more of a tourist that sees the sights of time and the universes, all for fun and amazement. So as much as I'd like to stay and s..." The long-winded explanation suddenly stopped. For once, nobody else had to shut this young Zelretch up, and instead, his eyes went into the interior of one of the buildings to the nearer side of the two. The eyes which had sparked with fun and enjoyment had suddenly become dull, old, and filled with a cold sadness.
"No. No, no, no, no NO!"
Without explaining even one word, the young mage dashed away - leaving behind a small dust cloud in his wake, and if not for the sudden outburst of his voice, it would've even seemed funny. But for once, he wasn't cracking a joke.

If one were to follow him, it'd easily become apparant why he had suddenly dashed away. In this building, on the floor... There was a body. All life had left it - Zelretch saw this on the very first view. His saddened eyes... Were looking down onto the corpse of a boy. Not older than maybe 10 or 12 years, clearly human, and... Unlike many, without the insane grin of the madness on his face. Instead, pure terror - he had been one of the few unlucky enough to die without madness, to die while seeing it. Maybe even by the hands of his insane parents, who could tell? But one didn't need to be a psychiologist to see the true meaning of his face.
Help Me
Written all over it, in the letters everyone could read. Within dead, cold eyes, the scream for help still echoed. The dried up tears from someone still hoping to be saved, even in total terror. But that hope would never be fulfilled.
"...So simple. So easy. One, two days earlier, and someone would've heard you. Not just one, two or three people maybe. They would've been here, you would be save. And not... on the ground, and so... dead." A voice like a whisper, but not only filled with sadness, but also with an underlining anger. "Why... why wasn't I here? Damn Kaleidoscope - what is the meaning of it, if it can't save A SINGLE CHILD?!"
A sudden scream, and the left fist of Zelretch collided with the next-best wall - the crushing noise of concrete and metal being blown apart, and within that dust, glowing eyes of a beast.
"Battler? We're going to war."

Song: You and Me, Amy ; Artist: Murray Gold

To be quite and wholesomely frank, Battler was quite amused by this younger version of Zelretch. He had heard that he was a bit of a time travelling aficionado in his younger days; so to actually see him in the here and now was nothing but amusing to the Sugiura. So as much as I'd like to stay and s..." Yes, yes, he'd already heard all about time theory--the fact that he was a part of Atlas, who had devoted themselves to saving the worl... what? Watching the man start to move quickly, he heard a lingering shout in the air. "No. No, no, no, no NO!" That was all Battler needed--his feet suddenly started moving, the male chasing after the old wizard with reckless abandon.

And there... it was. Laying on the ground, dirty brown locks lashed around a face locked in pure and unbridled fright, was a child. That was not madness--he did not have the black blood of the mad pooled at his feet. He dared not step any closer than he was now, lest Zelretch take out the rage upon the nearest thing. The child... he looked scared, worried, Battler was damned if he wasn't just outright terrified. Not only had he not lasted any longer than the age which he had, he had managed to die in such a... horrible way. Battler felt his hand coming up to his mouth--no matter how many beings he had seen dead, he could not just get used to the sight, the thought... the scent. "It's useless, it's useless, it's all useless..." He shook his head, watching Zelretch's shaking back with wide eyes. "...So simple. So easy. One, two days earlier, and someone would've heard you. Not just one, two or three people maybe. They would've been here, you would be save. And not... on the ground, and so... dead." A voice barely heard among the screams. "Why... why wasn't I here? Damn Kaleidoscope - what is the meaning of it, if it can't save A SINGLE CHILD?!" Battler, without any thought of what was about to occur, watching carefully as Zelretch stood up and punched the nearest building with an insane amount of force. Swallowing his own bile, he nodded to himself, already confirming what he already knew.

"Battler? We're going to war." Nodding quietly, the male stepped past Zelretch, leaning down in front of the boy. "Not yet." A hand was brought up and over his eyes, a swift movement shutting them. The hand was then brought to the mouth... rigor mortis had already set in; there was no chance of fixing that. Sighing, Battler slid his arms slowly beneath the body of the boy, lifting him up and carrying him back inside, finding the nearest bed and laying him upon it. At least now... he would look like he was asleep. "Rest in peace." Closing his eyes and turning away, the Golden Endless Sorcerer finally stepped out of the building, looking at Zelretch through eyes that spoke droves of both rage and sadness. "We shall do it. I understand your pain. Not even a Miracle can save that boy... as much as I wish I could." Closing his eyes, Battler shook all thoughts of attempting out of his head. "The boy's soul is already gone--it is quite possible that he was discovered by a Shinigami and sent to Soul Society. There is hope yet." Smiling weakly, Battler turned his body to face to government building, letting a grin slide across his lips. "For now? Let's make this one count."

Demons run when a good man goes to war.
Night will fall and drown the sun,
When a good man goes to war.
Friendship dies and true love lies,
Night will fall and the dark will rise,
When a good man goes to war.
Demons run, but count the cost.
The battle's won but the child is lost.

A Mad Miracle [Open] Empty Re: A Mad Miracle [Open]

Sun Sep 30, 2012 4:55 pm
[Young Zelretch]

What had started as a small little journey through time... had turned into this mess. Madness... What Zelretch and Battler were about to do, that was madness as well. To fight something one could not see, comprehend, or attack - only a fool would fight the black blood without a plan. And for someone from the past to interfere with the present - that was foolish as well. Would time allow for it?
But as the old Wizard watched his 'young' collegeaue close the boys eyes, Zelretch didn't care about that insanity. Sure, he was about to break any conventional law of time-travel, and spit in the face of reason, but that was what he was known for. Sure, he couldn't travel back another five days and save these people - doing so would rip apart his own timeline and erase him from the universe. But he could do one thing, make the ones responsible pay for what they had done here. After Battler returned, the madman with the cane nodded - his face, which was normally so friendly, had been darkened today.
"Hope? The one thing that we have, but they don't, you're more intelligent than most people already. Soul Society, or whichever other afterlife, still better than floating through this pile of madness. I guess we must be mad for heading deeper into it. Oh who am I kidding, we are mad." Turning around slightly, Zelretch grasped onto what only he could see, only he could feel - the cracks between, the rippling of this event in the grand sheme of the multiverse. Of course, this event meant nearly nothing on said grand sheme, but even the ripplings of worlds knew better than to mess with an angry Zelretch looking for answers on something.
"How typical, the center of the city is also the center of this madness. One moment you think the worst thing from your government is a tax raise, next they stab you in the gut with a pen." With a short shake of the head, eyes closed, Zelretch did the first steps - steps towards answers, towards the ones responsible. And if he had to warp the entire source of this madness onto the surface of mercury, they wouldn't get away from him. ...
And even if they did... It'd require them another miracle to get away from the miracle sorcerer that he had allied with now. High above them, on a balcony of the building that Zelretch had just given a sizeable crack in the wall, the only current watcher stood - tall, white, made out of granite, the statue of an angel, with eyes covered by the own hands.

Song: The Time of Angels; Artist: Murray Gold

You know, there's one thing that's the strangest about madness. It's fickle. It's sly. The smallest mistake, and your luck would run completely dry. It would suck you from everything and turn you into one of its denizens. Battler had almost experienced Madness. In fact, he had spent ten thousand years, almost experiencing it. Did you know that piecing together your own existence and trying to actually define yourself will never be easy, or flawless? Sure, he did it... but at what cost? "Hope? The one thing that we have, but they don't, you're more intelligent than most people already. Soul Society, or whichever other afterlife, still better than floating through this pile of madness. I guess we must be mad for heading deeper into it. Oh who am I kidding, we are mad." See? That man said something correct. They were already mad, this was simply the sanest possible thing for a madman to do. A soft smirk crossed over the lips of the male, as he took a singular step forwards, standing side-by-side with the youthful Zelretch. "How typical, the center of the city is also the center of this madness. One moment you think the worst thing from your government is a tax raise, next they stab you in the gut with a pen." He chuckled. How could one not chuckle?

Anyways, he decided to follow this madman along with his plan, because... why not? He had nothing better to do. It would easily take a miracle to save this city, and miracles happened to be Battler's prerogative. Which was a good thing, you had to realize. Chuckling quietly, Battler followed along beside him, and yet found something rather strange occurring around him. "You know, I swear that I heard screaming a few moments ago." Not screaming nearby, but just general screaming. For some reason, the entire world around them had fallen completely silent. Suddenly, Battler would stop walking and close his eyes for a brief second. "This isn't right. For a city of Madness, there should be... more noise. More screaming. More laughter. It's almost as if we've walked into something we shouldn't have..." Tapping his chin lightly, Battler threw the idea of rolling for a miracle over and over again in his head. A miracle, not to dispel--that would be a foolish idea, for doing so may actually have been in the plan of the beings who had brought them into this spell (if there really was one). No, he would instead try and discern if there was anything within their area that he should worry about.

Changing his mind, he instead decided to simply 'look around' with his own eyes, attempting to see if he could see anything in the distance that might be 'worrisome', and something did indeed catch his eye. Strange... as he turned his head to the other side of the road, a similar 'thing' caught his eye. Although he couldn't quite make out the details, they almost appeared to be... statues. Strange, Battler couldn't get the feeling of a foreboding mystery out of his mind. "O-oi, Zelretch," He didn't bother with -sama, especially not where this man was involved, "In your... many years of travel..." he was walking backwards, staring carefully at the statues as he backed away, "Have you ever... seen... foreboding Angel statues before? I know it sounds weird, but I get this really bad feeling about them..."

A Mad Miracle [Open] Empty Re: A Mad Miracle [Open]

[Young Zelretch]

So their walk started - two madmen, running deeper into their own doom, for sure. Magicians, one would assume, should know better than to challenge an opponent that they didn't know, but normal Magicians also didn't travel through time or create miracles with their minds. The body language of Zelretch seemed to have calmed down now - while his posture did not seem agressive anymore, his eyes still had that deep sparkle within them, a clear sign of warning for anyone smart enough to see the small signs. The anger within the dimension sorcerer had not subsided in the slightest, but...
Even in this state, Zelretch noticed. The eerie silence around them... What caused it? Himself with his small outbreak? No, not possible. Mad people did not feel fear, they wouldn't run from the shock of a building obtainin a small crack. It'd have been more likely for them to come running to see, if they even still had some curiosity in their broken minds. Was it a silencing spell?
"You know, I swear that I heard screaming a few moments ago."
And with those words from Battler, that possibility was gone - a silencing spell would've made his words unhearable too. The younger old Wizard stopped his own steps not half a second after his ally - around Zelretch, for a brief second, something 'resonated' - a small pulse, like mirror shards breaking away from him, and in his free hand he was holding a short sword made out of crystal - having pulled it from the space between dimensions with a mere thought, this was the Jewelled Sword of Zelretch, the first Mystic Code of known history.

Slowly Zelretch turned around to Battler, and even though the eyes of the old wizard were focused onto his crystal sword, his ears picked up the words of his newfound friend easily. Swinging the crystal around from side to side, like a pendulum, before flipping it upwards again and spinning it around itself - Zelretch was not simply seeing refracted lights within this blade. To his eyes, within this shard of his own power, he analyzed and 'saw' the boundaries of each reality and dimension, known or unknown.
"Quiet... too quiet, you're right. No screaming, no kicking, not even a crackling fire in the background? No, the entire city block is silent, and even more outside of it... Odd, I did not think..." murmuring in his usual, fast voice, Zelretch only stopped when his ally spoke of angel statues. The eyes that had studied the energies within the Jewelled Sword instantly shot upwards, right at Battler, and...
Besides the righteous anger towards the madness within them, the eyes that were so much older than the outer body spoke of a nameless horror. For a split second, it seemed like Zelretch was not simply worried, but afraid. Then his head turned... and he saw the same angel statues as Battler did.
"Oh, by all twenty frozen hell moons! How did... no matter. Battler, follow my voice. Back away from them, and follow me, just like that, okay? Whatever you do, do not break eye contact, you hear me?" Zelretch turned around to the direction they had been heading into again - just to notice something in the corner of his eye and nail it to the ground with a quick look.
"Not even for one moment can you look away. Don't blink, don't even blink, or we're as good as dead. They don't just want us, or they'd have killed us already. Don't know if that's better or worse." His Jewelled Sword was stashed away between dimensions again, trying to grab one of the arms of his fellow wizard with the now free hand to drag him further into their target direction.
"These... things, they're called Weeping Angels. And whatever you do, don't blink. ... And don't look into their eyes once their hands are removed, or we're in trouble. Even more trouble than we are already, I mean."

Song: Blink (Suite); Artist: Murray Gold

"Oh, by all twenty frozen hell moons! How did... no matter. Battler, follow my voice. Back away from them, and follow me, just like that, okay? Whatever you do, do not break eye contact, you hear me?" Well, that was never the best thing to hear from the guy who traversed all of space and time. To hear that he was actually afraid, out of all the bloody things. Muttering to himself quietly, Battler continued to back up, nodding in confirmation as he watched the statues carefully, making sure to keep them all in his peripheral vision. "I'll do as you say, that's for sure. I don't like the look of these things." He muttered some more, taking slow and careful steps across the ground. "Not even for one moment can you look away. Don't blink, don't even blink, or we're as good as dead." You know, that was easier said than done, old man. Gritting his teeth slightly, Battler fought his instincts that were screaming, telling him to close his eyes. But if he blinked, they would die? This was not easy, not easy at all. Continuing to hold his eyes open despite all of this, Battler felt the need to close them soon approaching. It was a waste of a miracle, but... Allow me to keep my eyes open without the need to blink!

ACTIVATED

And there they were, those strange and otherworldly energies that activated whenever he attempted a miracle. Without warning, he felt the liquid over his eyes soften up, and he knew that he could go without blinking now, at least for a while. "They don't just want us, or they'd have killed us already. Don't know if that's better or worse." Battler's features darkened. From what Zelretch was saying, these beings almost seemed like predators. "This city... what could there be that they'd want?" He didn't know their purpose, and he had already wasted his singular miracle keeping his eyes open, which would be a lot more beneficial to them than his knowledge of the damn things. An arm was grabbed of his, and Zelretch seemed to have started to lead Battler along, trying to guide him while he stepped backwards. His feet were cautious, trying to step over rubble, feeling their way forwards. "Don't... go too fast." He narrowed his eyes slightly, trying to keep a focus on the Angels.

"These... things, they're called Weeping Angels." Weeping Angels. Good to know, and certainly a fitting name for such creatures. Even from this distance, Battler could see that they were going to be trouble for him--the hands over their eyes were strange, though. Although he couldn't see exactly how they'd be any danger to them, the urgency in Zelretch's words caused Battler to believe him without question. If Zelretch was afraid, then Battler would not deny that fear out of simple cockiness. That was a fool's preposition. "And whatever you do, don't blink. ... And don't look into their eyes once their hands are removed, or we're in trouble. Even more trouble than we are already, I mean." Battler's teeth were grit, and he nodded. "Don't look away, don't look in their eyes, don't blink. You pick some lovely friends to pass the time with, you know?" He laughed casually and sarcastically, before growling softly. The cape on his back fluttered a little in the wind, but no other sounds continued. Battler wasn't even sure of what direction they were heading anymore, he was only focusing on the Angels...
