Personality:

Man of Science
As a Scientist, Stein sees everything in the world, himself included, as an experiment or a specimen. This is a trait that he exhibited even in his childhood, making him distanced from anyone else who tried to get close to him. This trait even followed into his adult life, the stitches on his face, hinting at the possibility that he experimented on himself.

Sadist
Stein also appear to have a sadistic streak to him, and is very intimidating. In a battle against two of his former students, he grabbed one of them by her ponytails and drew marks on her body to show where he would cut into her. When the other student tryed to attack him, he countered by knocking him out in a painful and bloody way that made it seem like he was dead. His smiles are normally filled with sadistic and dark intentions.

Insanity
Stein has a dormant insanity sleeping inside of him. He is extremely sensitive, a college of his stating that a simple push is all it takes to bring it to the surface. At one point in time, he did ultimately go insane and struggled to maintain it, to the point of qutting smoking to convince himself he could. During this time, his personality changed drastically, becoming very shut-up and shut-in, even for his natural curiosity.

Smoker
He has a bad habit of smoking to the point that he always has on in battle. He even smokes a specific brand. His provider even imports them just for him.

Loveless
Emotionally, he has been described as always alone and loveless. He admits to not understanding a college's reaction to his daughter's asking him to go shopping with him, despite knowing she, essentially, hates him. This shows he cannot feel emotions other than the need to dissect interests of irritations. This seems to make him more destructive or psychotic, and explains his dormant insanity. He is morally bankrupt, having experimented on his Zanpaku-to spirit when he was younger.

Compassion
Despite his cruel sadistic streak, he does have a kind and compassionate side, exhibited by his need to protect people around him. He also shows a very Father-like demeanor towards his students and shows utter disgust and outrage to a college's treatment of her own child as nothing but an experiment.

B A C K G R O U N D

History/Background:
Stein was never a Resident of Earth. He died in the womb and was taken up by a young couple of spirits in the Soul Society. Being Raised by the two of them, he grew up with what he thought was an imaginary friend with red hair. He eventually got accepted as a student in the Shinigami Academy where he was almost kicked out of it for attempts to experiment on the other students.

After his Graduation from the Academy, he met his Zanpaku-to spirit, which was an Adult Version of Stein's 'Imaginary Friend'. He was quickly accepted into a squad of the Gotei 13 but was eventually dismissed due to his attempts to experiment on the Vice Captain.

Eventually being removed from the Gotei 13 for his deranged and out of control experiments, he found his way to the human world where he continued to experiment, not only on others but on himself and his Zanpaku-to as well, giving himself as well as his Zanpaku-to more powers.
A normal Shinigami would call him a fool for his experiments, but to Stein, they were him, all in all.

Stein is now traveling the world, performing Various experiments, with or without consent or payment. If asked, Stein will perform any experiment out of simple, if not morbid, curiosity and the simple pleasure of slicing through skin and skull with a scalpel. However, even if the person doesn't ask to be experimented on, if Stein finds them fascinating, he won't hesitate to cut into them like a fresh watermelon.

Zanpakutô Spirit Name: Gai (Japanese for Scythe)
Appearance:
Inner World:
The entrance to his Inner World is located at the end of one of a passageway, indicated by a large door marked with a skull and the plate, 'Death Room.' However, although from the outside, the door is firmly placed on a wall, when one walks inside the Death Room, when looking at the door from inside the Death Room, the door seems to be standing on its own with no wall behind it, implying that it might be some sort of different dimension.
Once going through the door, one has to walk through a tunnel of torii gates, which are styled to look like guillotines. After that, they reach the main part of the room.

A strange-looking room, the Death Room is dome-shaped and domed ceiling with a bright blue sky filled with white clouds, in contrast to what one would expect from a dwelling of a typical Zanpaku-to. The clouds actually float around as if the ceiling is an actual sky, sometimes with the clouds drifting along the ground. The main part of the room is a large round platform with some stairs leading up to it. In the centre of the platform is a large mirror with a brass frame with a mask on top, where Gai usually dwells. At the top of the dome, small windows show the scenery outside.

Around the platform is a vast desert-like expanse, which looks like it stretches on for eternity. The entire ground around the platform is filled with strange cross-like foundations rising from the ground.

The appearance of the Death Room keeps changing, from a strange room with candles and crosses floating in the air, and a single platform in the middle of nowhere.

Sealed Zanpakutô Apperance : Gai does not take on the form of a sword, but actually that of a large black cross. Stein considers this ironic considering he is a man of science and his Zanpaku-to is Highly religious.

Sealed Zanpakutô Abilities:
-Experimental Ectoplasm: Using his Reiatsu, Stein is able to form a large, marshmallow-like spirit body that is five times his actual size around him and protects him from any physical attacks. Energy attacks, like Getsuga Tenshou, can penetrate this defense with little to no resistance. This technique can be penetrated by Physical Attacks of beings stronger than Stein [I.E. Beings with Tier higher than Stein, 3-2 and Up](Usage: 1 Turn, Cooldown: 5 turns)

-Soul Menace: This is a technique personally developed by Stein. By charging his Reiatsu with energy, this can cause strong direct and internal damage to weaker opponents (Characters with a Tier Lower than Stein), it is even capable of damaging someone who is being protected by good defensive techinques. Stein has discovered that the Soul Menace technique is enhanced by water as water seemingly conducts his Reiatsu better than air does. This Technique can only work out of water if Stein makes Contact with his opponent.(Usage: 1 Turn, Cooldown: 3 Turns)


Release: Dissect and Reveal the Mysteries of this Subject, Gai

Shikai Description: Gai does not change very dramatically, only adding a scythe blade to one of the sides of his cross form.

Shikai Abilities:
-Two Palm Soul Menace -Twin Spears: This is a variation of the attack Soul Menace that instead makes use of both hands, rather than just one. The attack works using the same principle as its one handed version; that by resonating with one's own soul, the user can drive their own soul wavelength directly into an opponent's body through a physical strike on them, causing strong direct and internal damage. However, due to the inclusion of an extra hand, the attack's power is greatly amplified and able to incapacitate even strong opponents. Again, this technique can only be used effectively if Stein Makes Contact with his opponent. If one hand misses, it will have the same effect as normal Soul Menace technique.(Usage: 1 Turn, Cooldown: 4 Turns)

-Witch Hunter-This is a Technique that can cause serious Damage to any opponent but is particularly useful against Hollows. By synching his Reiatsu with that of Gai's, Stein can execute this technique, which turns Gai's Scythe Blade Bright Blue and causes a slash/shockwave combonation that looks as though it was stitched together.(Usage: 1 Turns, Cooldown: 5 Turns)

Roleplay Sample:

Stein walked around Karakura Town, heading back to his laboratory. On his way there, he found a curious looking Arrancar and smiled. Perhaps he could get an experiment or two out of this subject. Stein removed his Zanpaku-to from his back and began a fierce battle with the Arrancar. While it was true that Stein's Zanpaku-to was not bladed, but blunt, Stein only used it as a defensive Weapon. Stein would keep hitting him with with Soul Threat, over and over again, until the Arrancar passed out. Stein dragged the Arrancar to his Laboratory and strapped him to his Laboratory table. As Stein began preparing his Medical Equipment as the Arrancar awoke and began freaking out.
"Don't bother struggling," Stein said, "those restraints can hold any non-Espada Level Arrancar."
Stein turned to his subject as his madness overtook him and said, "Now then...where should I make the first cut...?"

After a few Hours, Stein's Experments were concluded and the Arrancar was nothing more than a bloody pulp...Stein smiled as his madness that he had embraced was fading away and went to shower off the blood of his subject.

"Test Subject No. 99: Result: Death...time to procede to No.100..."
