Tale of Swords and Souls: Recuperation 1
Tue Jul 05, 2011 3:34 pm
It happened all of the sudden in literal sense. A student was nearly killed by another student without any provocation and the captain of fourth division was staying to help a teacher recuperate the emotional damage while the student they are carrying in the stretcher was heavily wounded by a deep slash to the back. The three shinigami are rushing while coaxing the other shinigami to get out of the way by shouting. One was using the healing kidou to keep the wound from getting worse as the student was lying on the stretcher with the front side facing downward. With the help of morphine, the student is able to settle down instead of groaning in haunting agony. Usually, a person groaning can be related to the many who suffered great amount of injuries and no one can rest easy unless they are sadistic. "Why would that student attack this one? She is one of the new group of students." The healing shinigami asked while keeping up in running and healing. All the three shinigami have no idea as they approached the entrance of the relief center.
They ran through the hallway, causing quite a ruckus and alerting the other squad mates of fourth division about a wounded student in need of immediate medical attention. The student was breathing, but was quiet, which is the sign that makes other people uncomfortable. They entered the emergency room and placed her on the table. Of the three, the female one ran out to lead their vice captain, Neviah Clisx-Kimura to the student while the two male shinigami are trying to keep the wound from getting worse through their kidou. The reason their kidou cannot heal it is because the wound is too deep for the basic and only the few exceptional healers like Neviah and Unohana are capable of dealing with this kind of lethal wound. One of the men adjusted the student so the operation can be easier for Neviah. Unfortunately, due to the gravity of the situation, the shinigami has to tear her mini-dress and put the sheet over her lower half to conceal the unnecessary flesh.
As Neviah enters, she could see a half naked girl with winter skin and honey-blond hair that stops down to her shoulders and a deep rouge ribbon to keep her hair from getting in the way. The female shinigami who was escorting Neviah told her that Jushiro Ukitake called Captain Unohana by another shinigami and Unohana brought her and the other two men to help get the girl into the relief center. The attack was by a fellow student and the wound was too deep for basic healing kidou. The spine was damaged so the girl cannot move much while the wound was lethal enough that basic kidou was needed constantly to keep her from going into shock and die. Unohana was staying at the Shino Academy to help Ukitake recuperate from the shock while Captain Kuchiki's squad are called in for investigation. "For now, ensuring that she lives to recover is our top priority. We'll help you when you need us." The female shinigami spoke to Neviah while the two men switched places so one can get the tools and medical aids while another is keeping the constant healing kidou going so Neviah would not be running against the short time limit.
While the four are at work in saving the student's life, the student fell asleep either by the stress by the pain or the morphine soothing her. She was sleeping while her snoring is so quiet, it is mistaken for breathing. She still frowned, knowing that she is facing death, yet she hardly cringe at the thought of dying like she has been through it before. From her gray eyes that was shifting rapidly, she was experiencing a dream, so she is sleeping through the whole treatment; both a good and bad sign. An old wives' tale suggested that dreaming occurs before death while sleeping means that the medicine is working and surgery will be easier. There is no telling which is which, all that could matter to the other shinigami was to student's survival because they don't want to have the division's reputation get damaged from losing one student.

After Neviah closed the deeper wound, the assisting shinigami are doing what they could to close it up. One is keeping the girl from squirming, but unusually, she hardly moved. The second one keeping her head level, but the girl's head was weighing down as if she is unable to lift her own head up. The third is closing up the wound and coincidentally is the best healer of the three. "No movement from the body. It is like the spinal damage also made it impossible for her to have any reflex either." The first one reported. "Agony is evident, so she still have facial functions, since she can still facially express her agony during the insertion. Just her autonomy is shot." The second one reported. "Closing the wound now. E.T.A. five minutes. Where is the medical record!" The third one reported before shouting at the outside of the room. "I checked with the Academy. Today is the first day for this student, so her medical record is not made yet. We will have to find out for ourselves. As for the 12th division, the note is sent and the rep will be on his or her way." Another shinigami reported as he enters empty handed.
After a few minutes, the female shinigami relaxed herself. "It is done. Let's take her to the I.C.U. until we are a hundred percent sure that she can recover smoothly. Visitors will be up to Vice Captain Clixx-Kimura. I'll help the Vice Captain." The female shinigami spoke to show some leadership for the time being. As the female looked upon Neviah and walked to her so she can tend to the wound. Three of the shinigami lifted the stretcher and the girl on it before carefully carrying her off to the intensive care unit, a room made for a person under critical condition, someone like that girl. Down the hallways and into a specific room where medical equipment are readily available close by and a few chairs are available. One specialized bed was laying flat in the center of the room. The three proceeded to carefully transfer the girl from the stretcher and onto the specialized bed.
With the blanket over her body except for her head, the girl can only breathe and watch as two of the shinigami strapped her down and the third raised the bed so gravity can prevent loss in bone and muscle mass while she is recovering, plus to make it easier for others to feed her for the time being. The girl rests as two shinigami left the room, leaving one to be watching over her. "Can you speak?" The shinigami asked, but no answer from the girl. "I'm sorry to ask that, I assumed that you can because even though you're paralyzed, you can still facially express yourself. Can you at least smile to show that you can at least communicate?" He apologized before asking again. However, the girl did not speak still. The shinigami sighed as he lowered his head before shaking it side to side. "The shock must be that hard. It scared us as well back there. Go rest and I'll make sure you will get out of here instead of staying here permanently." The watchful shinigami concluded his conversation.
The girl closed her eyes to rest and drift off to her dreams. Most of the time, she has good dreams. However, she is no different as she also has her share of nightmares. One was when she was stuck in the middle of darkness as a man was drifting away from her as a long white hand reached out for her. It grabbed her by the ankles and pulled hard; she woke up after that every time. This time, it is far different. She finds herself in the middle of a forest, following a woman in a kimono. The lady brought her to a plain of grass and flowers with the lake in the middle. In the middle of the lake was what is seemed to be a building of twisted ancient wood, stones and moss. She kept following the lady to the lake and stopped as the lady crossed it without any stepping stone as if she was walking on water. She stared at the woman as she told her, "Restore." The word itself was told to her earlier this day and the girl could not tell what it meant at all. It must have some kind of a meaning and that building must be the key to it. But where is it?

The fourth division seemed to be in quite a situation, after caring for the injured girl, but thankfully that care and tenderness helped Terith live to see another day. One man was walking through the fourth division barracks. Young man, was a better term used to describe someone of his stature and his age, as he was barely an adult in terms of age. His clothing was also very very unusual and different from the large amount of Shinigami that attended shino academy, or even the seated officers in the gotei thirteen. However, this man was proud of his unusual clothing, which consisted of a v-neck sweater, of green color. What was under his sweater, was a white dress shirt, accented with his favorite tie. His pants matched his sweater, which were striped with small lines and ripples all over. Honestly, there was no man like him that would look like this, unless they were from the human world. That's exactly how most people felt around him, but this man was firm and confident in his choice of clothing and ignored any looks that he might attract from walking through these barracks. This young man went by the name of Waver velvet, who by his parent's persuasion was allowed to enter shino academy. He certainly had no connection to Terith, so why was he walking into the direction of where her room should be?; Truthfully, he didn't know why he started walking here either, until he looked down at the items in his hand and quickly realized his blunder for being so forgetful.
He caught word, albeit barely, of the situation that had occurred between her and Kazuki, and the damage that the man had caused to the defenseless girl. He felt bad for hearing that happening to a beginning student, like himself. Waver would even get back at that man, but he was in no position to face anyone at his level of strength right now, and that fact honestly ticked him off. He sighed, as his hair bristled through calm air around this area. When one has decided to look at things closely, Waver has no connection to this girl and has never met her formally, he was going to give a present to a stranger he barely knew anything about, yet he had no fear in his heart or any ill-will in his mind. After hearing of the terrible fate that had befell terith without hesitation, Waver had decided to bring her a get well present. It was a teddy bear and a get well card, written with kanji, so Teirth could decipher the language easily and accept his token of care. Waver walked around the barracks for what seemed like a while, before getting information from the seated officers on the health and state of the student and was relieved to hear that she wasn't dead and would recover within due time. This meant, that his coming here would not be in vain and he would possibly be closer to making a friend today. his frown up till now, turned into a satisfied smile as he put a bit of pep in his step and got closer to the room, where Terith should be located.
After the long walk and a few pushes in the right direction, Waver was reaching his destination and was filled with anxiousness the minute he reached the door of the room of the patient. This was piled upon by even more anxiousness, due to seeing the arrival of the vice-captain of the fourth division, Neviah Clixx. This man was honestly shy around girls, more so then males. He wasn't a pervert or anything, but he had hormones that usual male teenagers experienced, and always thought of the girls that he met as pretty. Though, he obviously knew he would never have a chance with a single one he met do to his down comings. He froze up, the minute they both stopped at the door. He had to be careful, and speak politely and act normal. After all, he didn't want to leave a bad impression on somebody who might be his superior one day. He knew this fully, but still his legs began shaking as he gulped. While their destinations were the same, Waver had to let her know what his reason for coming here was. Neviah was a kind girl, so anyone would have high doubt for her to say no, as long as she knew that the visitor had good intentions. However, with the way that Waver began acting, it seemed very suspicious until one decided to gander at the items in his hand, which looked completely harmless. He shook his head and began to speak resolutely, he quickly bowed to Neviah and began speaking.
"U-Um, Hello, Vice-captain Clixx, i-i...u-um...U...m..Uhmm, well i...i..i don't know this patient, but i would like to meet her, and give her these get well present's...if that's all right with you of course! i won't intrude if you say no! hehehehehehee..."
It was a surprise as to how this young man was able to utter a single word in the face of someone like Neviah, but it wasn't going to be the end of Waver's unluckiness, if Neviah allowed his entrance into the room. He sheepishly smiled and held up the teddy bear and get well card and hoped that she would accept him. He had admired most of the captains and vice captains of the gotei thirteen and wanted to become just like one of them some day. If he could reach that wish, Waver's life would already reach the satisfaction that he had yearned for, ever since he entered shino academy. He would show the Nay-Sayers that he was destined for greatness and earn the appraisal that most men dreamed of when they reached a suitable age. Waver had to put everything towards fate's hand's, and prayed inside his head, as his body was still tense and shaking just from being near her. He cursed his anxiousness and quickly directed his gaze back to Neviah, as he did his best to keep a straight face and a straight body.
Just what did fate have in store, for the young loser?

Still in a dream where it seemed so real to the girl, she walked carefully around the plain. The flowers look unusual compared to the ones in the Soul Society. Years of living and she has not seen these kind of flowers before. Some looks like roses, but no thorns and the colors varied a lot. Lotuses are white, black, purple and many others. The lilies on the lake are vivid while releasing a strange glow like they are pouring with spiritual energy. What surprised the girl was a strange "WARK" noise off to the distance. The girl looked and noticed large yellow birds that looked like a mix between an ostrich, a hawk and a canary as they ran by in and out of the field. Strange birds indeed as she watched. The girl felt a hand on her left shoulder before turning around to see it was the woman. Up close...her eyes are red while she has the charm of some kind of evil. The way she was dressed was not appropriate for someone of modesty as it is more for seduction than that. She smiled at the girl as if she was expecting a question.
"W-who are you? What do you me-?" The girl asked to the woman before the woman interrupted her with a finger to her gentle lips. "I watch over the humans as I make sure they don't perish. I make hard choices of life...or death." The woman answered calmly before moving her finger away from the girl's lips. "Like a guardian? Why does it involved me?" The girl asked, trying to get some answers. "Yes, like a guardian, but I cannot tell you. As a god, I cannot directly interfere with the affairs of mortals like you." The guardian woman answered. The ambiguity did frustrate the girl as she was going nowhere other than learning that woman was a goddess or something. The woman stepped aside and raised her right arm into the temple's direction. "When Karakura is fated to fall, this temple will be your answer. However, be wary as it is your risk alone, not for the others." The guardian woman spoke as the girl memorized the appearance of the temple and the field around it along with the lake.
While the girl was resting, the shinigami who was watching over her was still watching her vitals in case of lethal fluctuations. Then he heard footsteps heading into this room alone. It must be the vice captain. The shinigami stood up and was in attention towards Neviah. "Vice Captain. I tried asking the girl for information, but she is not responding. I think she is also speechless by an emotional scar." The shinigami reported as he looked at the vice captain. There he noticed an unusually dressed young man at the door as well. Judging by the gifts in his hands, the young man must be one of the girl's friends. However, the young man mentioned having no relations towards her, so he must be her fellow classmate. What ever the case, if the vice captain allows him to come in, who is he to argue? The shinigami stepped aside so the vice captain can check up on the girl without him getting in the way and stays at ready for when the vice captain needed him for something.
"Man. Where is the 12th Division? It should not take them this long to arrive here." The shinigami blurted out impatiently, revealing that he and some of the personnel are on edge because the girl nearly died from the wound and not only that, this is one of the few times that they have a serious nerve damaged patient. The female shinigami entered with the files. "Found the files on Hikamori Kazuki. You are right about him being an experienced shinigami. At his age, he would have been a captain. What held him back, I don't honestly know." The female shinigami reported to the vice captain before noticing the young man. "Excuse me." The female shinigami said to the young man before she gives the files to the vice captain. She then left the room as the other shinigami who is still in the room. On this moment, the girl opened her eyes to see the vice captain and the young man in the room. Her gray eyes scanned the limited view of the ICU room while keeping a straight face, but anyone can tell that she is miserable about not being able to move.

Waver knew that he had no chance of getting through to a woman, with his unusual anxious attitude whenever he came face to face with them. He was a man with bad luck, and his case today was not all that different from the day's before. Judging by how she became nervous, he consciously assumed that she was scared from how Waver himself was acting in front of her. When two nervous people come together and perform tendencies when they became anxious, it was not unusual to see them become scared of each other due to certain morals or an issue with pride. Waver could not come up with any conclusion besides that and put his head down, as he sighed to himself behind the door.
Had he really messed up his introduction that bad and left a bad impression on the vice-captain?; Certainly, it was not his intention, but judging from the situation right now, it seem's that such cause had happened. Waver was still adamant about coming in however, he wanted to meet this person and talk to them. It wasn't because he had any intention of getting in good with everyone around the school, it was simply a whim. Well, if they did decide to ask him to leave, in order to keep a good reputation, he would have to respectfully lead himself back to the academy. However, after looking inside the door once again, it would seem as though Waver had misconstrued the situation between Neviah and himself. He curiously wondered why she had changed her action's so quickly.
Waver could only continue to watch, until Neviah gave a slight bow. "....?" Waver was at a loss, but carefully put the pieces together. Maybe Neviah didn't run away because of his nervousness, but because of a problem she around male's. Waver had figured from everything he heard from the shinigami of the 4th, that she was a honest and kind woman with not a single a bad bone placed inside her body. Waver took this chance to quickly, come in. Though he took soft and caring steps, as to not frighten neviah or the patient. Once he arrived within the ICU unit, he carefully looked around the area and took a deep sigh. He knew he had to stay quite, in order to let the patient heal.
He held the present's in his hand's as he diverted his attention away from Neviah. He didn't want to make her break her concentration, especially if it cost the life of the girl on the bed. Girl, Girl, Wait, she was a girl?; Waver cursed himself in his mind for not asking about the gender at such a crucial moment. Furthermore, just by staring at the female in the bed, though her face looked miserable and pale, her face was undoubtedly pretty and cute. Waver sighed and his leg's began shaking again, so he carefully tip-toed to the side of the room, in order to avoid their gazes for now. he sniffled slightly, as he mentally lamented on his luck when meeting those of the female species. Honestly, if thing's were going to be like this in the future, he could only help that he would hit maturity by then and finally get past this stupid anxiousness. Waver secretly smiled however, as he held these present's close, coming here was not a complete waste of time, and now, he had the chance to maybe bring a smile to her face and make a new friend. If Neviah, ever got over her hump with male's, a second friend didn't seem like it was out of the question, but Waver consciously left everything up to fate.

When Neviah was attempting a high level kidou to restore the nerves, Terith felt a warmth on her back that quickly became summer sun ray. The shinigami assisting Neviah by keeping an eye on the vital detection system unit soon realized that there was a climb that is more than just steady. He looked at Neviah with a surprised look before he witnessed Neviah gets blown back. The vital unit was blaring like a cardiac arrest was occurring. "Vice Cap-!" The shinigami tried to warn before the vital unit calmed down to normal. "What the hell?" He responded to the anomaly in the vital unit. "That was the quickest recovery from a cardiac arrest I have ever seen, Vice Captain. Speaking of it, when me and the others are healing her during the surgery, her heart rate was higher than normal whenever we used Kidou because the moment that we break for a brief second, the heart rate went down sharply before going back up once the healing started again." The male shinigami analyzed to Neviah as he demonstrated his theory.
As the shinigami was giving an analysis to Neviah, the girl looked at Waver, but only one of her eyes could see his pants because of the bed obstructing her full view. The male shinigami used a low class kidou on the girl while keeping it about two feet away from the girl. At the same time, he pointed at the vital system to point out a drastic heart rate ascent and descent caused by the charging and discharge of basic healing kidou. "I suspect that she is sensitive to spiritual events, but I am not entirely sure what kinds she is sensitive to." The male shinigami concluded to Neviah. He knows that Neviah is sharp on details, but at her condition, it is best explained to her in this manner. "Anyone know her name? She does not have a medical record, otherwise, Neviah would have received it by now." The male shinigami spoke. He knows it is Neviah's job to take control of the situation, but with her conditions, the male shinigami felt that he is obligated to help her by being her temporary second-in-command.
"Boy. Why don't you give us a hand and at least see if you can get her to tell you her name or something?" The male shinigami spoke to Waver. Upon hearing the name, the girl's facial expression twitched a bit like she is responding to the shinigami's request to Waver. While the male shinigami was not paying attention, the girl's fingers twitched a bit at as well. It is either reflex or she slowly regaining her nerve control. However, it is apparent that the girl knows it as well, yet only sad because she still cannot move like she wanted to. Strangely, it seems that the girl wanted to talk to someone who is more at her level than to someone who she will meet only to leave behind later on. She kept looking at Waver, even though she is forced to look at his pants from the way the bed obstructed her view by angle and the bulk of the headpiece. She was hoping that Waver would just at least sit down in front of her and try to speak with her. Her eyes closes slightly as a pair of teardrops fell from her eyes.
It is hard to tell if it was just her in pain or she was just upset that it happened to her of all other people. To any shinigami, she is just a student who became unfortunately known for having little to no background and being the one who survived the attack that would have killed her. It is upsetting to her either way as the burning in her back stealthily persisted to rob her of comfort while the damaged self-esteem was still cracking. Ukitake told her that she is an unusual case since she is able to take down a hollow with an attack that is unheard of, yet a person named, "Kazuki Hikamori" managed to struck her down like a murderer to a little girl, no chance of fighting back...an easy prey. Having him in front of her may be good, but she gained the anxiety from that damaged self-esteem, so she is also nervous as to what he thinks of her. All he would want is her name, not hard, but what if he asked what happened? How would she explained without being criticized for being weak?
