All Falls Away [Igen, Rangiku]

Igen nodded slowly at the explanation as he watched her from where he was, not really minding if she stayed standing. He laid back on the couch and took a steady drink as he listened to her story. Short as it was. He could understand that. He himself couldn't really think much of his own life story. It felt a little ridiculous thinking back on it, and he relaxed as another sip brought another comforting layer of fuz over his thoughts. ... And then he took a BIG gulp before sighing in satisfaction, enjoying the slow creep of inhebriation. though he drank a lot, so surelt it'd take a while. Never mind that ... well. Maybe it'd been a while since he'd been drinking much.

"Kinda wonder what Rukongai kids will wanna do now."" He furrowed his brows a little. What indeed would those with spiritual power aspire to? It only firmed his belief that things in some capacity needed to be ... there. But how? He closed his eyes. LAter dammit. His head was a damn mess. "Thanks.... Rangiku. Bye the way. I ... it really seems like I always wind up running into you, maybe its coincidence. But . I'm really glad you're here when all this is going on." He noted with a sheepish chuckle, a rueful, but earnest smile on his face as he looked her way, then looked back to the wall infront of him. Thinking back to when they had celebrated his promotion. When he'd found out SHE had become a lieutenant.

They weren't really celebrating much nowadays. Resetting her ribs and now this. Bit of a loss of their streak for sure. He hoped the next time they hung out like this it'd be for something good. "I got so much goin through my head. I don't even know how much of it is sane."

Igen raises his brows for a moment and gave a sheepish smile when he noticed the sudden energy from Rangiku. She didn't say anything, but he did realize he was probably bringing the mood down. Or at the very least, letting his mind get away from him. and so when Rangiku poured shots for the both of them he couldn't help but pause and stare a bit in surprise at the suggestion before chuckling softly and taking the offered glass. With only a brief moment of bracing, he promptly threw his head back and gulped down that drink, a heavy grunt escaping him as he then opened his eyes again and chuckled.

"Allll right buh... Maybe not quite THIS fast. Gimme a sec." He chuckled as he 'd need a moment. But even so, she WAS right. He wasn't going to let her drink alone. And so as she started pouring, he'd put a stiff upper lip on and promptly do his best to keep up with her! Downing several more shots as she seemed intent on the idea. though frankly, he was already feeling it. the flush of his face, the slight sway of his frame. A bit of ... overestimation as Igen's absence from drinking all that often caught up with him. A few shots in, he's let out a shaky WHEW as he'd hold a hand up and promptly give a firm SWAT to the couch beside him as he slumped back into the seat and smiled to himself, prompting her to join him on the couch as his smile widened.

"Whew, hold...hold on a sec there Ran, we gotta slow down or we're gonna need my bucket." He giggled.

Igen snorted softly at the tone of concern in Rangiku's voice and he waved his hand. "I may be .... underrested and ... getting drunk, but I'm not sick yet. Just gotta keep it cool." He noted confidently, smiling slyly as he took a small sip from his glass. Heh, it may have been a while but he knew HOW to drink! And that only grew all the more confident as Rangiku made a comment about his couch.

"Yyyep, sfrom the world of the living kinda. Not like.. you know.. FROM. It's like... inspired! Seen some in some fancy catalogue, and decided I'd want one like it, so I just... made it! Every bit o furniture's been put together by me." Technically it was more like frankensteining furniture he found, but he felt it was more or less the same thing "Trust me. Kyo knows how to make all kinds of stuff, and taught me a little thing or ...whatever. Taught me a whole lot actually..." His voice trailed off and he paused... wincing a bit as he wondered how Kyo was. His arm was still missing... but surely that wouldn't stop him... right? That bright, drunken joy of his faded ever so slightly.

"I owe him so friggin much... he's goin through a lot right now. He's got his girlfriend, just. Still wish I could help." He sighed slowly and slumped forward, sinking his face into his palms for a moment as he lamented the situation of his friend. "Is all so fucked. The nobles are ... fuckin trying to step in. All that progress.... putting some ... weight and power in tha hands of the rukongai. I wanna... tryand keep it all together, try and do what we're supposed to do. But ... what is there ta do? I can heal people. But then what? Work for ... them?" He closed his eyes and rubbed his face.

Igen blinked a bit in surprised as she dropped down and landed on his shoulder. If he were sober he'd have just balanced her there, but with him inhebriated he almost fell right over underneath her and so he had to hold onto her hip and the couch a bit so they didn't tumble. Though that waasn't nearly as surprising as her .. faith in him? His face pinkened just a little and he gave a sheepish smile. "Hah, you really think I'm that dependable?" He chuckled, sure he had a sense of duty but ... figuring out what to do next was something else entirely. And in his drunken state, it all felt like a friggin whirling mess. He awkardly reached for his glass, spilling it a bit on his other shoulder when he missed his own face, sipping the rest of it and sighing as he relaxed back against the couch.

Looking to Rangiku for a moment he went silent for a few seconds and just kinda ... looked at her. She seemed to have a plan, at least part of one. But she still had gone out of her way to help him, and even trusted that he'd figure things out. And if he didn't? She was willing to lend a hand. They ... weren't coworkers. They weren't student and teacher anymore. Obviously he considered her a friend. But friends sometimes changed when things got tough.


Looking at Rangiku he couldn't help but ... smile as he realized that she really was there for him.

"Same. I don't know what the friggin... darn ... I don't know." He chuckled, trying to think of the specifics, but frankly, he really just didn't. But even so, that smile of his firmed. Not just fond, but strong, and confident.

"I promise. I'll make sure everything works. I ... my dream always was... about the Captain Commander. But maybe that was styewpid. Aint gonna be no commander like Yamyam. I can't be the commander. I don't know if anyones gonna friggin... wanna follow me anywhere. But I promise you. I'll be a man worthy of being a leader. And if things don't work out. I'll take care of you too."

Eh?

That caught even his drunk self off guard, and for a moment he just kinda, stared off into space. He looked up at the ceiling for a moment before looking back to Rangiku. "I dunno. I.... miss. I donm't know what I miss?" His voice lilted up like a question. "I don't even know... we didn't really ... do a lot. We... we didn't have our firsht kiss for .. a while. It was I mean..I loved being around'er. It waz like being around my best friend all thetime. It's alwayz been that way tho. And they always wanna just be friends." He murmured, and slowly laid his head back against the head of the ouch for a moment and smiled sheepishly.

"Sho many girls like me. But ... in the end they jusht... don't really ... Like me. Makes me wonder if any of em really did like me." He chuckled, reaching up and gently running his fingers through that thck braid, and with a sigh her pulled it free, so that those long pink locks came down over his shoulders. " Kyo never had problems like thish... he always had... yknow... girls. Lotta girls, ya know? All I ever had was friends." He sighed and smiled a bit. "I just wish I knew what I did wrong."
