» Personality: As a mother, Mina is empathetic, caring, and nurturing. As a wife, she is patient, loving, and kind. As a woman striving to become a true noble of Soul Society, Mina is strong-willed and ruthless to a degree, willing to be cutthroat if it means elevating the Morikawa name. She would never trample over one of her beloved children or husband, but for anyone outside the family Mina will do whatever is necessary for the sake of the Morikawa.

Outside of family business, Mina is polite and dignified. She holds her head high, though not to look down her nose at others. Mina believes in doing the right thing when possible, which led to her eventually taking in her daughter Mizu's childhood friend, a refugee from an outer Rukongai District, despite initial misgivings.

Mina is a highly intelligent woman who leads the Morikawa family with her husband. Through proactive strategizing and quick decision making, she has helped elevate her family from a largely unknown clan of a handful of people to a fringe noble house with incredible accumulated wealth and enough prestige to be known across the Seireitei.

The Morikawa family originated about a century ago when a young Mina met her now-husband. They met in the Shin'o Academy as third year students, and after a whirlwind romance ended up marrying each other only a short time after graduating. Though neither was a prodigy, they both excelled enough in the Academy and on missions to be made low-ranking officers in the Gotei Thirteen.

A few years after joining the Gotei Thirteen, Mina was forced to take a leave of absence due to coming down with a serious illness that caused permanent damage to her lungs. Upon recovering she and the Gotei quickly realized she would not be able to properly serve in the organization anymore, and was allowed to take a "permanent leave of absence" instead of being locked away in the Maggot's Nest due to being a relatively low ranking officer and her lung scarring.

At this point Mina and her husband started feeling strongly about having children, building their family name, and creating a legacy that would last long after they're gone. Their focus shifted from serving as Shinigami to becoming genuine Soul Society nobility, and since that moment they have done everything in their power to elevate the Morikawa name.

During the Hollow invasion of Soul Society, Mina came across a monstrous woman she knew to be an invader. Mina has little recollection of what occurred during this meeting.

» Racial Abilities: As a member of the Gotei, Mina specialized in Kido and Shunpo, though wasn't prodigious with either. She achieved the rank of 8th Seat in her Division through talent in all forms of Shinigami combat, with Hakuda as her clear worst skill.

» Zanpakutō Spirit: Hana Ori-ko is a dignified woman of great beauty who's voice is soft and comforting. She is a reflection of Mina in every way.

» Shikai Release Phrase: Blossom, Hana Ori-ko

» Shikai Appearance: Upon releasing, Hana Ori-ko's blade changes minimally.

» Shikai Ability: As one might expect from its name, Hana Ori-ko's release revolves around blooming flowers. Whenever its blade strikes something with Reiryoku, whether its another Zanpakuto, a spirit, or living being, it saps a fraction of said Reiryoku (no more than 1% of their total at a time) and uses this energy to feed flowers that bloom from it. Upon receiving enough energy to grow them completely, the flowers fall to the ground and begin releasing a fragrant scent which, upon being inhaled, slows any victim's senses and reaction speed by a small percentage, which is a cumulative effect.
