Friends in Short Supply [Edelo, Natsumi]
Fri May 19, 2023 5:59 am
It was a headache to walk through the city. How long had it been since he'd first come here and been swamped with the absolute overstimulation? Having his powers out of wack certainly didn't help, but still, he continued to walk down the streets, making his way toward the park. Things had improved. The run-away nature of his little problem had somewhat settled, and so long as he didn't focus on anything, he found he could actually exist quite happily in the city. Everything meshed and melded together after a while, and he found he was able to get around fairly undisturbed, if perhaps, with a headache to show for it.
A soft sigh spilled from him as he finally found a bench, and he slowly rubbed at his eyelids. IT really was so different from what he was used to. But he'd HAVE to get used to it. Especially if he was going to be more useful in the Todgestalen. Taking a heavy seat, he took a moment to lean back and close his eyes. Letting the sounds of the park settle him.

Natsumi could not fathom what sort of insane entity thought this place was a good idea. The City of Lights... It was little more than a monstrous labyrinth of a glass, silver, and whatever other overwhelming material they thought to use to erect this horrid place. Looking around gave her a headache. How did these people live here? She thought Tokyo was bad, but this diamond hard aesthetic was just offensive.
It also didn't help that she was FUCKING LOST.
Natsumi made it to some relaxation area, at least that is what she guessed it was. It reminded her of a park, but was just so... sharp. If it weren't for the aching in her gut and the pulsing pain of her head, she would have tried finding a tree to sleep under. Unfortunately, she was too hungry and had no idea where to go to find something to sate her. The matching buildings made it hard to identify anything.
Without paying attention to who else was there, Natsumi found a bench and collapsed onto it, shaking it under the fall of her weight and definitely disturbing Edelo in the process. With a hand on her stomach, she groaned in both annoyance and pain. "I hate this stupid place," Natsumi said and looked over to Edelo, "Oh, hi. Mm.... How do you people live here? It's giving me a headache..." She let her head hang over the back and laid her arm over her eyes to block out the sun. "So hot..."

Huh?
At first Edelo hadn't really paid much mind to the person walking by. Plenty of people went through the park. But it wasn't until he felt the slight shift of the bench as the woman plopped down beside him that he was roused from his rest, turning and taking a moment to look at the woman. A look of surprise as he spotted ..... a kid? No, a teenager or something.
"Hi there. Long day?" He asked with a slight chuckle. No reason to make it awkward. Certainly he himself had endured enough little situations where he'd been just about ready to pass out. He took a little sip of his water before setting the canteen in his pocket. Turning his full attention to the area around them. Thankfully he was too tired for his eyes to act up. But that wasn't any reason to tempt fate. He was quite fine not seeing grey matter. He planned on eating later after all.

"Ugh, you know it," Natsumi said before she even turned to see who was talking to her. She sat up and turned to face him, leaning her side into the back of the bench and holding her head up on a fist. "Everythin' here is so shiny. I'm surprised the sun doesn't do that thing," Natsumi said and then began gesturing and making buzzing noises. She was trying to explain the act of a magnifying glass using the sun to burn up ants. It was pretty much a fifty-fifty chance that Edelo would get the dramatic gestures she was using. She even added a fake explosion noise too.
"I couldn't live here; I'm not even sure why I'm here now." Natsumi crossed her arms angrily, looking around the area as if it had all personally offended her. "Go to the Light City... It's amazing and pretty." Natsumi said, mimicking the words of another, maybe a friend? "Whyyyyy did I listen?" Natsumi stopped her whining to look at Edelo, "... What about you? You look all tired and stuff. You have a long day?"

Huh, what an odd gal. He tilted his head slightly as he listened to her description of the city. He paused to look at the pale architecture that made up the city. It really depended on what section of the city you were in. SOME areas definitely had that look of 'people who didn't like the all white look and tried to make things more familiar' to it. But yea, the main areas could be a bit much to take in, and he smiled a bit, remembering his first attempts at adjusting to it.
"Hahahah, you must be new. Don't worry, I think just about everyone has that reaction at first. To ...some degree. You either get used to it, or learn what parts of the city aren't quite like that." He noted with a calm smile, sighing a bit as he recalled his Mother having a bit of ...difficulty adjusting to such things.
"I guess you could say that. It's been a bit of a rough couple months for me. Believe it or not, I actually moved here within the last year. Things have gotten a lot better for sure. But uh, I grew up out in the country. So ... big city like this? It's still a lot to get used to." He admitted with a sheepish grin.

"Or!" Natsumi smiled and pulled out a pair of sunglasses and slid them over her eyes. "You could just wear these things." Natsumi laughed again and took them off, showing them to her new acquaintance. "Aren't these brilliant!"
Keeping her sunglasses on, she asked Edelo about himself. His answers weren't what she expected. "Huh... And what does 'in the country' mean?" Natsumi asked, her question coming off serious. She really didn't know.
If Edelo took a good look at her, he'd see that she was wearing dirty clothing, wrinkled, faded and torn. Her shirt and pants were obviously over sides, and her pants were even being held up by a cracking leather belt. She gave off that vibe of "homeless," or what homelessness looked like in other areas.

A brow raised ever so slightly and Edelo really sis have to pause as he considered what kind of question that was. "I suppose. The noise more than anything else is the problem. for the most part." Sure, having to look through crowds was a nightmare, but the noise was harder on him, honestly he hadn't been sleeping as great and he wondered if it had an effect on his ability to control his powers.
That said, he ....considered what one could really do to ...explain the country. "More....rural...areas? I'm not really used to big cities like this. I just lived in a small village out far from...basically anything else. The most we ever had in terms of people was about ...pfff...two hundred people?" He murmured, gently rubbing the back of his head. He'd never really had to explain this before.

"So, 'in the country' means more noise?" Natsumi asked, thinking for a moment, and then shrugging it off. Sometimes people talked weird; she even talked weird, according to other people she had met. Then he explained further, the new definition making a lot more sense. She understood how he could be uncomfortable after such a big change. She had a problem dealing with so many people too. They were loud, bumping her all the time when she walked down the street. It was annoying, and none of them said sorry. "The country sounds better."
"Can I ask you somethin'?" Natsumi asked, though she didn't really wait for permission. "You know anything about this company called the Duvalier Group? Supposed to be big and powerful and spread everywhere. Havin' a hard time finding anyone who knows anything 'bout 'em. That's why I came to the Light City."

For several seconds, Edelo was .....confused. Her strange understanding of the word country of course was bizarre all on its own. That wasn't too crazy though. Certainly, she could just be someone who didn't know the language. That was all well and good. It was n fact even endearing. But rather it was.... what came out of her mouth next that caused Edelo to put on an expression of ....confusion. The Duvalier group?
True, Edelo himself was never one to be even familiar with such things. Had she asked him the same question a month ago. He would have had no idea what she was even talking about. He grew up in the sticks after all. He hadn't even really been all that familiar with most big brand names. But since the group was active in the city of lights. and well. If his job didn't kinda involve them a lot lately. He wouldnt know anything. But still, this random girl bringing them up threw him off guard.
"The.......shipping company?"

Natsumi watched him curiously, hoping he had some sort of information about them. When he called them a shipping company, she tilted her head. "I was at one of their docks; that is what they are pretending to be, yes." Natsumi said, probably more bluntly than she should have. When she did speak, there was a change in her tone. He was the first person she met that opening admitted to knowing they existed. Her eyes became more serious, her voice less casual.
"What do you know about them?" Natsumi asked. "Do you know where I can find their biggest head quarters place? Or the big owner man of it?"
