Progression Versus Tradition [Ehefra/Lukas]

THE CITY OF LIGHT

Another boring, uneventful day. Lukas was practically vibrating from boredom as he made his way through the city, itching for something, anything. Scratching some corners of his brain for something, anything, of interest, he'd stop in the middle of the street. A mess jotted onto paper, pressed against a buildings wall, and the man was off.
Running with a glint in his eye.
A series of stark white hallways, bordering on familiarity. Assuming, of course, the man had ever actually been there - speaking instead to the uniformity of much of the Stadt's construction. Recessed lights above glared with impunity, shadow turned to the thought of imagination. Barely keeping his eyes open behind their watering, Lukas passed by the frame of door after door. Coming to a stop, he'd peek through a small window, reinforced with several lines of wire.
"Think this is the place." the man half muttered as he'd shift back to looking at the plaque next to it, labeling its department. Practically glowing as the light bounced off him, he'd push his way in, a whistle followed by shout announcing his presence.
"Hey! I'm looking for someone from the Steingruft to help me with something!" To no one in particular as he'd adjust his sight, the room a fair bit less harsh on silver eyes. Still blinking rapidly, he'd pat down the sides of his jacket, reaching into a pocket to fumble amidst a few scraps of paper. "I was uh- unsure if I needed to schedule something, couldn't really get in touch with anyone?"

As Lukas walked through those doors, he would find himself staring at a long hallway.Or what ...WOULD be a long hallway. There was instead drywall that covered the path beforehim, as if the area had simply been walled off. Ehefra had done a fair ammount of rennovation since she'd gotten permissions to adjust the Steingruft as she'd saw fit. Infront of him, Lukas would also see a little floating sphere, which would swivel in his direction, a faint blue glow from the thing as a little chitter sounded from it.
"Greetings and welcome to steingruft. Do you have an appointment?" The sphere chimed, a calm female voice sounding from the sphere. An AI serving as a receptionist of sorts, even though there wasn't any discernable entrance or pathway forward. Nothing but that blank white wall the ball floated beside. Certainly a far cry from the scenery on the other side of the door.

With cleared vision, Lukas was somewhat taken aback by the lack of... substance? Rather, the lack of much at all. He'd glower at the sphere for a moment, shuffling back the paper into his pocket. The same hand returned with his phone, a flicker of sight downwards to a pair of unanswered calls. "No, but I couldn't really get in touch with anyone." the Quincy responded, tone of disdain as his gaze turned back to the ball.
"There a person here, or just lines of code?"

The little sphere tilted slightly at the man's query before a little beep sounded.
"I see, I do apologize that you weren't able to get in contact with someone. However, I'm happy to say that we have available staff to assist you. " IT chimed, the pale white wall slowly peeling open, the reishi it consisted of being shorn away until there was an open hallway. The inside was a tall hallway, well lit down below, but with looming shadows up above. At the very end of which, proper open doors would be found, which led into the area proper.
Ehefra had certainly not wasted any time retrofitting her own division's section of the Silbern. This door which operated by shoring up or breaking down reishi, was just one of the many features that she'd had put in. Past those doors, there was not a semblance of any normal architecture. Nothing but smooth clean white walls that just sortof screamed 'sterile'. Past that door, he'd find himself in a large white room with small squares. Separate offices with rows between them that could be navigated. Each one was featurless other than a small name plate, indicating where one could enter. A few echoed voices bounded through the room itself, but otherwise the only immediately visible individual was a short, blondehaired woman sitting at a desk. Offering a raised brow and then a polite smile.
"Ah, well if it isn't Lukas. What brings you to Steingruft today?" She ventured. It was possible Lukas might recognize the woman. One of the supernatural humans in Ehefra's division.

"Ahuh." the man half commented underneath his breath, making his way through the opening as it showed. His gaze led upwards amongst the architecture, slipping back down as he'd step through. A half concerned cock of the brow as Lukas' head swiveled, looking for a sign of anything much more than nothing at all. As it opened up, the noise of voices overtook his attention.
Weird ass layout. He refrained from commenting, turning instead to face the woman as she greeted him.
"Hi." Lukas somewhat awkwardly responded, a half wave with his left. "I was looking to talk to someone about developing something." Not even pretending to feign some recognition, the man plowed forward. "I've got an idea that could help with some of the bullshit that's been going on lately." His opposite hand circling in the air in a vague gesture.

The woman's brow raised slightly as Lukas strode into view and gave his response. So he had an idea for some sort of ... development? To help with .... stuff. She maintained that unamused look, but kept her thoughts to herself. "Ai. Dios mio. Alright then. Well, you're in luck. The boss is in office. So if you'd like to meet her, she has an open schedule this afternoon." The woman lazily peeled a small slip of white material from her jacket and offered it to Lukas. "Head down that hallway. She should be either taking a nap, or working on something the next room over. This will open the door for you." She instructed before turning her attention back to her own screen and giving a slight shift of her fingers, waving Lukas to run along as the hallway in question lit up along the floor, almost like a landing strip guiding him.
And of course. True to the woman's word, if Lukas chose to follow directions, that long hallway would slowly open out into a much larger room. Several slim barriers peeling open as he approached before he'd find himself in what looked like a large work station. A number of screens were up and running, some of which seemed to be occupied processing or rendering, while others were inactive. All the same, at one of the desks, sat Ehefra, slumped over the desk and very much asleep. Though a small cube floated nearby and turned toward Lukas as he entered the area. Giving a little chirp in greeting. A sound which caused Ehefra to jolt slightly before slowly sitting up. Stretching her arms and grunting a bit before slowly turning her attention to Lukas.
"Ah. Luke. Need somethin?"

The woman's response flew over Lukas' head as he reached for the material - nodding with a half smile. "Yeah, thanks."
Speeding off with a twist of an ankle, Lukas pushed through the ever-revealing hallway with flickering bewilderment in his eyes. Not in concern; confusion. Why set it up like this? Don't you guys have to talk to each other? Even with a swiveling head every second, the thought wouldn't flush away.
As the final door slipped open, the quincy whistled lowly, gaze slipping across the various screens. He'd start to count them before his attention was taken by a newly awakened Ehefra. Lukas' hand darted towards his pocket, producing the crumpled piece of paper.
"Hey, yeah, maybe." Walking closer, he'd shuffle the paper between his hands, attempting to smooth out the various crinkles that overtook the hastily scribbled drawing. "You know how things have been lately, with the arrancar and all the hollows." Looking back to the woman, Lukas flipped the paper towards her.
"Detailed" was a mess of lines going into a smiley face's eye, each lettered out with small, one word descriptions. 'In', 'Out', 'Circuit' - nothing particularly out of place for what should usually be a schematic. A textbook the man read twenty-odd years ago flashed into the back of his mind. Far more detailed in a wiring diagram, layers of skin and bone peeled back to reveal insertion points.
"I don't know how much old quincy tech you know about," the word stressed itself between his teeth as he flicked the paper towards her, "But considering no one around here's got a goggle for an eye, I'm guessing this crap has gone pretty defunct?"
In short: A communication device.
In long: A communication device predating the radio, utilizing the push and pull of reishi manipulated within the brain's blood vessels via blut. Receptors connected directly through surgical implant, the lens actually two plates of glass with five 'channels' of blood inbetween. By measuring the reishi, the channels would move to create corresponding signals meant to be reacted to rather than read, each 'channel' allowing it to be synchronized to another member of one's unit.
Abandoned for incredibly taxing mental feedback when they were attacked, causing severe mental breaks in those that experienced it. Sehenblindes.

She wasn't sure what she was expecting, but well. She honestly didn't really expect ANYONE to come visit her in her department.
"I certainly do. I've been a part of the effort to repair all the damage that came from it all. And well. Africa is it's own can of worms. " She hummed, yawning softly and leaning back in her chair as she watched Lukas peel out a piece fo paper and toss it her way. Eh? Was this a schematic?
She didn't even look at it. She held it off to the side and Beeps promptly scanned the crinkle of paper, a brief pause before the schematic was promptly rendered in the air between them. And promptly a VERY large number of red dots suddenly populated the display itself. But frankly, Ehefra's expression shifted slightly as she realized what it was that she was looking at.
"Ah... I see.... so uh....what exactly would you like me to do with this ....particularly disturbing medeival quincy torture device?" She ventured with no shortage of distaste in her voice. "If you would like, I could make you a communication device that doesn't involve the use of blood." She ventured with a slight tilt of her head. "Or are you wanting to adapt this into something?" A pause before looking at Lukas himself.

"It's a little much nowadays, won't lie. Although I did know a pair of twins with these, some crazy asshole who was the son of the son of the- well, his family made the thing, some fucked up sense of pride. Anyway." Lukas shook his head, a thumb jabbing towards the hovering image.
"With how archaic this is, I know the tracking and response time aren't that great, plus they can't recognize as many differences in reishi, right? Hell, those twins - if you flared blut enough by there head, you'd basically blind them for a second. What I'm thinking is a sensor. Some way to predict or figure out where anyone trying to get into the stadt are, you know, coming. When or where."
The man's eyes would flick back to the floating image, biting the inside of his cheek as he did. Why would you ever do that to yourself?

Ehefra quirked a brow ever so slightly at the mention of a pair using such things. She furrowed her brows at the very idea and tapped her fingers along the desk.
"This isn't a matter of how well it operates. It ......vaguely seems like it would work. It's a matter of sanitation. Sticking something into the blood vessels connected to your brain is asking for an infection. Even the tiniest issue with any of the parts and you're losing blood from the most important part of your body. And for what....communication? Tracking? None of which should need Blut to be done. Quincy naturally have strong spiritual senses. Whatever boost this ...t hing would afford. Would be minimal if anything compared to say, a Ginto spell with the same intent. Whoever these fellows you know where? They were stupid ontop of crazy." She murmured, itching her neck before slumping back into her seat.
"Also, sensors are useless when it comes to Arrancar. They use Garganta, which hides them in an alternate plane. They pretty much can't be sensed until they're already here. " Yea, she had a feeling this was related to Kurosaki. Spotting the look on Lukas's face, she drummed her fingers.
"If I remember the reports. You were here on the ground when it all happened. right?" She asked calmly, watching the young man closely before looking to the holographic display. "I can imagine what fighting something that strong up close might do to your head. But ....digging up relics like this. Seems a little desperate." She murmured lightly, letting her cheek settle into her palm as she let her fingers drum along the counter.
" You're one of those ...old school types. Right? Pride of the quincy and all that, if I'm not mistaken?"
