Letter on an Arrow [Kyo, Tatsuki]
Sat Aug 27, 2022 6:53 pm
SAWACHIKA KYO
Work was pretty much done for the day, which was just fine in Kyo's eyes. He didn't have any issue with work, obviously, or he'd have probably requested a transfer to another division, but sometimes a guy wanted to get off work and get some drinks with the boys. Delivering a stack of papers to the third seat, he offered a short bow, typical propriety that he always made sure to show at work.
"Anything else you need me for, Officer Arisawa?"
Honestly, he didn't really assume there would be, but you never knew around here. He didn't mind putting in extra hours, and he'd stayed late plenty of times. If that happened again, no big deal.

Tatsuki raised a brow when she noticed Kyo making his way toward her. Ahhh, a sight for sore eyes to say the least. While the man may not have the ....talents other members of the division, but Tatsuki frankly enjoyed him and his own unique means of contributing to the squad. Glancing at the stack of papers that he set on her desk she took a moment to leaf through them. A bunch of forms and confirmations, thankfully nothing she herself ACTUALLY needed to touch other than to just keep a copy of for record purposes. Sweet.
Glancing back up to Kyo she gave a light nod of her head in acknowledgement and stood up so that she wasn't the only one sitting down. "No, nothing work related at least, Sawachika-san." She noted, before a sigh spilled out and she itched the back of her head. "And WITH all this stuff out of the way." She slid the stack to the side of her desk and into a small bin. It'd hand out there for another 24 hours. Some of them would have a part 2 she'd need to wait to see show up, others just needed to be checked against other reports that probably wouldn't come in until tomorrow. Which was good, because she DID actually have something on her mind.
"Relax. We're pretty much done for the day anyway, so you can drop the Officer Arisawa stuff. Been a hot minute since we talked. I think the last time I even spotted you not working was ......" She paused. "Actually I can't remember. All the more reason to see how you're doin. You haven't been working yourself to the bone have ya?" She asked with a casual smirk and an idle wave toward the papers he'd given her. Taking out a few of them and separating them from the stack. Some thing that probably he'd have to look at again before the end of the night if another officer finished THEIR work at a reasonable hour.
"Take a seat. Anything new and exciting?" She ventured.

Well, at least things were staying casual. Kyo generally considered the third seat to be one of the most likeable officers (besides the fifth, anyway), given her demeanor usually wasn't particularly stuffy or the like. Reminded him more of the academy days than work, which was fine by him. He liked his job, but not all the time.
"Nah, hardly. I have a few projects the family's sent my way, but this new commander hasn't asked for anything yet, so we're mostly doing small stuff right now. Gets me doing a lot of drafting for myself when I've got the time."
Of course, he was also continuing to work on his more artistic pursuits, but he generally let those speak for themselves rather than boast openly about them. The countless poems etched into the shaft of his spear were all the indication he felt was necessary of those particular pursuits.
Well, there was also Asami, but he wasn't the sort to go talking about that to literally anyone who asked. Just his friends. Even if he probably spoke loudly enough that other people could hear anyway.

Tatsuki was largely unaware of this perception. IT was a mixed bag of perception when it came to the third Seat. A number of the squad grew more comfortable with her over time, once they got past the somewhat murderous aura that the woman could at times exude when she wasn't around familiar company, particularly in the mornings. And of course, others ......perhaps less so. There was a certain element that was added to interactions once soemone had watched the woman slit a living person's throat, drink their blood, and then promptly turn into the victim before their very eyes that frankly....unsettled some people. But as it were, Kyo's wheelhouse was separate from that facet of her performing duties, for the most part. Frankly, she wouldn't have blamed him for being less than fond of her presence, but she was lucky that he didn't seem to mind.
"I don't mean work stuff, cmon. We've all had plenty of free time what with the new Commander. You're not the kinda guy to just sit around on his thumb all day. Whatcha been up to? Been to the world of the living at all? Maybe find someone nice and cute in another Division?" She asked casually enough. It wasn't the first time she'd asked the question. Kyo was fairly well-liked as far as guys in their division went, but he was also known (or at least generally presumed, or hoped in some cases) to be single. And while Tatsuki was not the kind of woman to be nosy.... she wouldn't deny that perhaps she was a little nosy when it came to Kyo. She had a personal bet going with herself on the plausible suitors that might snatch the guy up.At some points she did wonder why she chose to divert such mental energy toward such a subject. She chalked it up to having been alive for a hundred and twenty years. It was either ship her subordinates or start heavy drinking. And heavy drinking was for the weekends.

SAWACHIKA KYO
"Nah, I don't go down to Earth too much. Don't hang out often with people who know the place, and besides, work doesn't take me down near as often as some of the other people around here. I'm not exactly great at sneaking around."
Kyo didn't think that was anything particularly wrong with him, though. There was a whole lot more to do in covert ops than just be sneaky, and he'd helped more than a few people get in and out just by showing them the best places to get in. If they ever actually needed demolition work done, well, he'd be on that one real quick. The second question was one he answered with a bit more of a grin, more used to talking about this one with the boys than with a superior officer.
"Another division? That'd be a little too far, don't you think? I keep my aim around here, instead. Me and a lovely lady have been on a few dates for tea and the like."
He wasn't saying a damn thing about anything beyond that, even if by all possible metrics their relationship to this point had stayed squarely in the realm of what would be considered socially acceptable in a noble atmosphere. Not that Kyo thought either of them really cared about that side of things, admittedly, they were just taking things slow.

Tatsuki raised a brow slightly at that and let out a little noise when she got his response. "Eh? I meant in your free time! Aren't you interested in seeing the place? I mean sure, some parts are a bit ...dingy and exploded now. But there's still a lot of culture down there. Architecture too." She reasoned with a shake of her head. She should have expected Kyo to have THAT kind of mindset about the place. It was almost bizarre how some of the soul society born had ideas about how the world of the living was. Or maybe it was just the way they described it.
His answer however caught her by surprise. For half a second he wondered..... Kasha? Would Kyo refer to them as 'a lovely lady'? Maybe if Kasha asked him to, but still it threw her for a loop. On one hand, she was pleased that he was seeing someone! But on the other hand. "Kyo.... have you ever heard the expression: Don't shit where you eat?" She asked with a sigh and a shake of her head. "As your superior officer, It's my responsibility to tell you that that's stupid." She noted, her voice hardening as she narrowed her eyes at the larger man, showing a brief sincere menace that he probably rarely ever saw on her face.
But.
A Moment passed, and she smiled ever so slightly. "But, as your friend. I'm happy to hear you're seeing someone. Who's the lucky lady?" She asked, vaguely imagining it to be another unseated. Kasha came to mind at first. Maybe even one of the new recruits? He was a big friendly guy, she could see him getting real close while helping someone who was trying to get their wings. Well....maybe not intentionally, but he was a big handsome friendly guy, she could definitely see some of the new recruits getting smitten.

SAWACHIKA KYO
"Hm... I guess that's true. Last time I was down there was right after the war, and I spent most of my time by the beach cleaning up old outposts. It wasn't bad or anything, the ocean was definitely pretty impressive."
Admittedly, the ocean had also been so bizarre to Kyo that it sort of threw him off, but he'd become fairly fond of it during his months there. Ah, memories. Her point about his love life did elicit a chuckle from him, and he shrugged, seemingly unconcerned with any issues of propriety or the like.
"Listen, we're adults. I'm sure it'll be awkward for a while if something goes down, but we're professionals. I'm not gonna let something like that bother me. And id it wouldn't get in my way, it definitely wouldn't bother Asami."

Tatsuki raised a brow at that, whistling appreciatively. "Really? I wouldn't have figured you for a guy who was fond of the ocean considering your....well...relationship with the earth and all that jazz. Still, theres some really nice spots to enjoy that kinda thing." She noted with an impish smirk, imagining how Kyo would react to being out at sea. Not that appreciating the ocean required you to be ON it, but it was still something that sprang to mind regardless.
A pleasant thought to ponder before Kyo started to argue the case. Well, she figured as much. She ALSO knew that you could be as logical and mature as you wanted, it took two to tango, but only ONE to fuck up things for the both of them. Especially if things got bad. Well, at least until he mentioned who it was. She paused, blinking twice.
"Asami. OUR Asami? Fith Seat Furukawa?" She asked, frankly a little.....surprised. And concerned. Asami was..... an old hand. Back when the squad was a little more.....extreme in the scope of it's duties before the Onmitsukido had been disbanded. ALSO she was one of his superiors. But well, Kyo didn't seem to mind squatting next to his own plate. STILL. "Fifth Seat Furukawa. Not what I'd have expected." She paused. And for a moment, she considered. And then promptly flicked a paper clip up at his head.
"I would say something abut chain of command and all that shit but I kinda wonder who even holds that shit sacred these days." She murmured. Shinigami had turned out to be WAY lest strict than modern humans with that shit it seemed. " You're a big boy. And she is.... herself. Still at the tea stage huh.....hm, afraid I'm not really all familiar with that. But I certainly wish you luck." She thought back to when she and Chizuru had started dating. How she'd find herself scowling at every pretty-faced girl that she had wound up making eyes at. The decades that went by and .....sortof worked things out. And then...... the thing that pulled them apart. They were still....'together'. But, she remembered, a long time ago Orihime had called her a Dragon, or rather, drawn her as one. A Dragon guarding a princess. Chizuru had become that princess, maybe as far back as when Sosuke had attacked Karakura. When she'd seen Chizuru scared and confused instead of ....her usual self. But now....her princess was in another castle. And she didn't want to come back to soul society. And here she was, a dragon too far to protect her princess. Sometimes....wondering if she'd somehow scared Chizuru away. As ridiculous as that was to think.
....right?
She only then realized she'd been staring off into space. And she put on a smile.
" Now that I think of it. Maybe she'd like a date out in the world of the living. Maybe she's the kinda woman who likes to see the ocean too." She mused, covering up her own drifting train of thought.

SAWACHIKA KYO
"You think so? Maybe I'll go down and look things over after all, then."
Whether that was in reply to Tatsuki speaking on the matter of architecture, or places to bring Asami on a future date, that wasn't hugely clear. Of course, Kyo had just meant both. He wasn't the sort to use those sorts of vague, poetically ambiguous statements outside of where they belonged; poetry.
"Any suggestions? My time in America wasn't anything that impressive. As far as single-family homes there was some interesting stuff, sure, but not much else. Europe seems to have more in the way of grand aesthetics."
Kyo had done his research, at least. If he was here in covert ops to handle demolitions and study blueprints, he certainly wasn't going to sit around idly.

Tatsuki snorted just a little. "America doesn't have jack to be honest. There's a few buildings that are....alright there. But honestly it's all either pretty boring or overdone from what I've seen. Europe is probably your best bet for ...flat out architecture." She reasoned and gently itched the back of her head. She wasn't exactly an expert on all this stuff. She was sure there was stuff you could do to look up about that shit.
All the same, she stuck her tongue out at the very idea of going through all that. All the same, she turned her attention back to the big fella. "So, about these dates though. How have they gone?" She decided to ask. After all, he'd described them in the plural, so surely there was a sense of how things were going. "It anything like you expected?"
