Where the Sun's Always Shining (Alistair/Kegare
Sun Sep 19, 2021 2:27 pm
The City of Light. And of course, a place more or less right up the asshole of the Vandenreich. Even making her way in and watching the customs officer going through her shit was a surreal experience. To think that there was a place like this with all of the shit that went down in the world of the living. Making her way into the city proper, she kept her attention set as she looked at her watch. Huh, she'd gone through customs a lot quicker than she'd expected. She had a whole eight hours before she had to worry about her first meeting.
She found herself staring at the city around her, her expression flat and slightly uncomfortable. Well, she may as well see the sights while she's here right? And she started walking, taking a moment to pull out her phone to set an alarm. The last thing she needed was to miss her meeting because she got caught up in something around this place. The scent of quincy was.....thick. Though there was so much more in the air, it was still something she wasn't quite used to sensing in such concentrations.
She couldn't help but smile a little to herself at the notion of finding business in a place like this.

Alastair had found himself quickly growing more accustomed to diversity, even the diversity that had always been there. The City of Light had once seemed so monocoloured but now he saw a different flush of colour around every corner. That was perhaps why, as he turned another corner on his walk through the city, that he almost stumbled straight into Kegare as she was enjoying taking in the sights.
Amber eyes snapped quickly from his surroundings to focus on the woman before him. His expression barely shifted from a passive frown, though the initial shock of the collision had given his eyebrows cause enough to raise in surprise.
"My apologies, Miss, I did not quite see you there."
She was a peculiar sort, it did not take long for him to assess that, as her scent was certainly not something he was used to and there was a way about how she carried herself that suggested she was only a passing visitor within the city so somewhere between lost and distracted. It was hardly his business to pry but he had made the faux pas of stopping her and thus engaged, so it was only fair that he enquired at least a little, right?
"Forgive me for asking, but is this your first time in the City of Lights? Have you somewhere you need to be?"

Kegare's attention snapped to the redhead as he came precariously close to walking right into her, head canting to the side when that tumble of apology came and she made note of his quick assessment of her, her head canting to the side before a calm smirk formed. That right? Don't worry about it. Not like ya actually hit me." She assured him, taking a moment to survey the young man as well. Not the most masculine of sorts.
The question, however, caused her smile to widen. Ah, a good boy type. Been a while since she ran into them. Well, that or he was putting on an act, those were a bit more common. "It certainly is. Though I've nowhere to be for quite a while. I'm just getting my bearings for the moment, though it's a bit larger than I expected." She hummed, reaching up and tapping her chin as she looked around. "And on that note. Does the young man about to offer to show me around have a name?" She ventured.
She could already tell that he was going to offer as it were, so the expedited the process, keeping her focus on him and where his attention shifted. Wary in case he went searching her. She had met her share of pickpockets as it were. Not that he'd find anything on her person if he were. For all intents and purposes from anyone who eyed her for belongings, they would find a very starrk lack of them as if she'd come here with nothing but the clothes on her back.

She was a sharp one, it took Alastair all of a second to deduce as such from her manner. Confident enough that she probably did not need his help to get by, and yet she still pushed the conversation further than that of two strangers. Perhaps she was just trying to kill some time until she found where she needed to be, or she was stringing him along. Regardless, the better move was to dive into it and then he had at least tried to be helpful.
"Alastair Eisfluch, with the Vandenreich. Though you will no doubt find plenty of my ilk within the city, whether you go looking for us or not."
There was a hint of pride that lingered behind his words, not something overpowering but enough to give dull eyes a warmer sheen. He certainly did not attempt to go through her pockets, standing as he was a little beyond the reach of the woman if that were somehow his intention.
"The city can be quite labyrinthine for the uninitiated, it is still hard to tell one white building from another even with a few years under my belt. If you are looking for something in particular, though, then perhaps I can guide you in the right direction. A place to eat, drink, or quietly take in the city?"

She couldn't help but smile. He caught on quickly. A shame he was with the vandenreich, a pretty man like him would draw a lot of customers. But she decided to push the work talk aside for the time being, perking up as she spoke. "The Vandenreich? Never gonna get used to saying that name without a cautious sneer, hahah. To think that they'd turn into a place like this." She hummed, looking around her before she glanced back to the young man and grinned, giving him a firm and playful punch in the shoulder. "Alizarin. Pleasure to meet you Al. I'm a businesswoman, mostly Entertainment, perhaps you should stop by one of my establishments sometime." She noted with a grin, flicking her wrist, a card appearing seemingly out of nowhere. A business card, which she handed to him.
"Actually that;s why I'm here. One of the local businesses wanted to discuss some things. Things I'm sure a bright, energetic young man such as yourself would probably find all too boring. But I would like to see the ....entertainment area of the city. I don't imagine there will be anything like the world of the living, but at least so I can get a good idea where to go later on. Matter of fact it might be some fun to sample a bit of what the local businesses have to offer. Especially with a charming tour guide!" She grinned.
Though her demeanor was ....unique. It wasn't the flirty sort of thing one might expect. She actually sounded like she was lightly teasing him, in the friendly bullying busting his chops sort of way. Whilst simultaneously inviting him to take her out on the town. Or well, whatever constituted as much in a city like this. Truth be told, the OLD Vandenreich did not inspire a notion of 'fun' so she was interested to see what the city had to offer since they opened up more.

Alastair took the shoulder check in his stride, an erstwhile gaze turning slowly to study the firebrand of a woman before him once more. He was not immediately familiar with what was being offered to him, as he took her business card and turned it over to inspect the details before tucking it away into a jacket pocket. It was not that he was completely unfamiliar with the concept of her business, but the wires simply did not connect in his blissfully ignorant head. No doubt such an astute businesswoman as her would be wary of what the Vandenreich had once been, many likely still were.
"I will keep that invitation in mind, Miss Alizarin, if I ever find myself in the vicinity."
Whilst she smiled easily and often, he did not. It probably made his answers dryer than they needed to be, as a stern look countered her own bright eyes. Still, she had requested of him a slice of the entertainment within the city, so he supposed he was obligated to accompany her further. Besides, he had tomorrow off, so what did it matter if he was chaperoning a tourist around a few bars? Live a little, he told himself, before pushing a half-smile across resistant lips.
"You might be pleasantly surprised with what I find dull or not, but if you are after a glimpse into the nightlife of the city then I can at least take you to a few of the better establishments. I am sure there will be enough choice to satisfy a businesswoman of your calibre."
He turned to lead the way, a purpose to his stride now. Though he did first pause to make sure that she was at his side or following. It was fortunate, perhaps, that he was the type of individual to dress smartly even when just heading out for an evening walk so he would not look out of place at any of his usual haunts.

She chuckled to herself as she watched him, not at all stingy with expressing her mirth. What a funny fellow he was. Finally putting out a smile, and putting out a little line at that. "Really? I wouldn't be surprised." She hummed. What a dumb kid. That kind of talk was the kind of thing that would get a blade to your throat in some places. But he seemed young, he was allowed to talk a bit flippantly in present company at least. It was a sensitivbe subject to many races that .....well....were targets of the organization. But she let it go, not even bringing it up. She simply hummed happily as she began to follow him.
She noticed the lack of recognition on his face. That was well enough. The more clandestine establishments were generally on the second floor. If he wound up just wandering in, he'd find food, drink, and a good time. One never just accidentally found themselves in the more adult sections of the business unless they intended to. And this young man, despite his little dash of mystique with that little line of his, did not strike her as the kind of fellow to adopt such tastes. No, he was a fuckboi. Almost immediately as he said his lines and gave her that little smile, she felt the tingle of a few of the girls she cared for come to mind.
They would eat this little act up. Serious, but also a bit charming. Even if he wasn't cognizant of it, he would draw women like flies. Poor unknowing little idiot. All the same, she smiled and shook her head. "Well now isn't that generous?" It wasn't, plenty of others would have offered similar. "Well I won't say no to learning a bit more about Quincy tastes." That at least was true. She knew that even if not obscenely different, Quincy culture was still a unique one. She was interested to see what they had, and even more, just what this little e-boy was like in such a situation. Just how much of that stern facade was fake? A fun little discovery game to kill time before her meeting, following him and so very curious as to where he would take her.

"I did offer, after all."
Even as he tried to wear a smile, his tone was a flat note compared to her bubbly remarks. Not that he completely bought into this forward and suggestible character she was presenting, but he still felt their personalities clash. Regardless, he set off down the street at a leisurely pace. She had time to kill anyway, so watching the city come alive for the night might be something she enjoyed. A sprawling metropolis like the City of Light was probably a step up from what most were used to though, judging by her reactions so far, Miss Alizarin might be the exception rather than the standard.
They walked for a few minutes, even passing by a few places that some might deem bars, but it seemed that he had a destination in mind. Casting a glance over his shoulder, he cast an idle remark out to pass the time. They still had a few more blocks to cover before they reached his neck of the woods.
"If you do not mind me asking, have you had the luxury of visiting many other cities around the world?"

Kegare hummed as she followed him along, slowly becoming more speculative as they went. That gay little smile slowly turning into a scanning, pensive look, as if looking over something she was interested in. Certainly the night life was not the kind of thing she expected to see in full colors in such a city. The place actually seemed to have a good ammount of such things. Perhaps it was a result of the new mixed population? Or was it perhaps simply a facet of quincy she had been unaware of? All the same she turned her head when he asked her about her experience with such things.
She smiled at that, a chuckle escaping her as she put a hand to her hip. This wasn't like one of those bright smiles before, this was much more of a sly smirk. "You could say that. But then again I work in the industry, so I have a vested interest in exploring such things I admit." She pointed out. "And what about yourself? I can only imagine that a Quincy like yourself may find yourself deployed all over the place." She reasoned.

Such a reserved response, almost enough that he could consider it deflecting, but perhaps that was because she actually did mind his asking yet did not want to be rude and shut him down. If she wanted to add more later he would not refuse her, but better to move things along a bit as the destination drew closer.
"Soldiers do not tend to see many urban deployments, at least not to the cities that you want to be visiting and setting up businesses in. The City of Lights is the best I know in that regard."
Turning another corner, the street widened out into a courtyard. Flanked on all sides by towering skyscrapers; the square was alight with activity as restaurants, bars, and clubs dominated the ground level. The night was still young, and most of the clubs were still waiting to open, but there was a wide array of bars and restaurants to choose from. Many different facets, quality of establishments ranging from a dive or two to the finest of evening bars.
"Does anything take your fancy, Miss? We usually call this place 'The Quad', a rather self-explanatory name, and it does cater to plenty of different vices."
