ENTER THE MEGALOMANIAC

Artist: Breath of the Wild - Song: Castle Town Ruins

Vanyel lay in place, flinching and trembling as Algos' voice, along with his own, continued to get louder and louder. Through his blurry, teary vision, he looked up from the darkness of his own shadow, seeing Calypso's form shifting and expanding, seeing her now taking up a large majority of the room, and without so much as a sound, "Algos" vanished from his side, retreating to the shadow near the corner of the room, the smile from before remaining stuck on her face.

He felt a set of hands graze his cheeks, and through the pounding of his heart in his ears and the loud, incessant voices that droned on and on around him, he could hear the faint, distant, almost blurry-sounding voice of Calypso. She wanted him to listen to her, begging him to look at her, to listen, to believe what she wanted to say. Her voice was so comforting, no matter how distant it sounded. He wanted to hear her voice -- to feel some semblance of comfort in this hell that was his own mind.

He struggled to try and make past the haze that obscured her voice, to try and silence the drumbeat in his head as small phantoms of pain seared at his battered wrists. In the corner of the room, "Algos" let out a loud, spiteful hiss as her neverending smile blinked away for a moment, replaced by a frown as Calypso drew closer to him, and with every inch closer to him, the haze slowly began to clear.

Even in such a monstrous form, she was still so gentle with him...

As she admitted that Algos' power, he slowly began to shrink away, and in the shadows of the room, Algos' smile grew wider and her form grew larger, her voice gradually getting louder and louder. Each word she said -- telling him that he wasn't fit to love Calypso -- felt like a knife being thrust into his heart again and again, but he still tried to keep his focus on Caly. The haze was starting to come back, and Vanyel's eyes widened in fear.

No.

No, he had to hear her.

She wanted him to hear her and listen to her, and he would. He continued to force himself past the haze, trying to block out the Goddess of Pain's words as he kept his focus on what Calypso was saying.

"Even if she's all of these things, I can never be hers."

That one line was all it took. As those words slowly processed through his mind, the sounds began to die out once again, fading into the background as his eyes widened and new tears began to flow from him. The haze began to fade away too, and her voice became clearer and clearer. He knew she was strong -- he never doubted that for a moment.

It was Algos that he both hated...and was scared of. She was willing to do whatever she could to get her way, from what he knew -- hurting the woman he loved in order to try and force Calypso to love her, and all Vanyel could do was sit on the sidelines and watch. But...she was strong now. She swore that Algos wouldn't and couldn't just pluck her away. The man's lip started to quiver as he opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out.

The woman's body crept upon his own, and he slowly reached out to try and embrace her. He wanted to stay. He didn't want to leave, he wanted to hold her, to kiss her, to love her, and to make her as happy as he could. He wanted her just as badly as she wanted him.

The hissing from the corner of the room grew louder, and upon looking over, Vanyel saw that her smile had contorted into a frown, her face distorting and twitching. The lights began to flicker, and with each flicker, the woman moved a step forward, slowly reaching out with a clawed hand as her mouth stretched open, letting out an even more horrific shriek as her eyes dimmed to a grim crimson. As Algos drew closer, Vanyel started to slide back, trembling.

As she inched her way toward the bed, her mouth began to flicker back into a smile -- much wider than before, as she reached out with her clawed hands to Vanyel. The man slowly swallowed the lump in his throat, and he swiped his hand in front of him, causing a wave of lightning to crackle to life in front of the bed. The flash and crackle caused "Algos" to take a few steps back, her shrieking dying down to hissing and snarling, though her smile remained as she took up her mocking tone once more.

"WEAKLING."

Just that word made Vanyel's heart sink, and his head lowered. Algos' hands fell to her sides as her head tilted to the side with a sickening crack as the lights began to flicker. She slowly began her advance again, and Vanyel slowly started to shrink back again, his hand trembling as he stared at the figure making her way towards him.

"YOU COULDN'T HELP HER. YOU JUST STOOD THERE AND WATCHED WHEN SHE WAS HURT."

ENTER THE DREAMER

Artist: Carrotwine - Song: Dark Side Of The Road

So gentle, so tender did the massive demon handle the tortured man, sweet tears rolling down her dark face from various eyes filled with love and concern, spilling upon his body as she held him. Though, her various eyes flickered to see the form of her sibling, the version of the wicked blood princess of pain encroaching upon their tenderly loving space, wishing to penetrate that veil of love with fear and doubt.

She had to hold her tongue.

This wasn't her demon, her fight. It was Vanyel's.

This was his fight, and he had to win.

She watched as he had made a move, swiping electricity in her direction, which had stopped her movements for a little, though as he shrank back she came closer. Calypso placed several hand-like appendages on his chest, gently covering his wound as she looked him in the eyes, platinum tears rolling off her body in droves, upon his wounds,

"Vanyel. Don't shrink back. Don't hide. No more hiding."

Her stared deep into her soul, a look of hope and trust in her eyes as her eyes glimmered with desire, a desire to see him seize his moment,

"You have to get up Vanyel. The only one who can stop her is you right now. Didn't you see that? Your power? It did something just now..."

One of her appendages gently traced up his hand, brushing his knuckles, and softly entwining with his fingers,

"..You have to focus.. Call upon that power again Vanyel.. I believe in you.. You have to call upon your truest self.. And..."

A look of determination filled her gaze, as she gave way to him to go all out on her, staying by his side,

"Let her fucking have it, Love!"

Vanyel's hand continued to tremble as he held it out in front of him, the wounds on his arms slowly beginning to knit themselves back together, closing and healing as the cuts on his arms slowly formed into scars. Each time the lights flickered, she was a step closer. Each step made a spike of anxiety form in his heart, his breathing growing more labored as he stared at her horrid maw, her mouth distorting as sharp, almost beautifully white teeth shined from the shadows.

A clawed hand reached out toward him, her twisted grin growing even wider as he trembled, slowly reaching behind him to pull himself away from the end of the bed, to try and get as far away from her as he could. He wanted to protect Calypso, but how could he? Algos was a goddess, a devil with a degree of power he could barely even process, much less fight. Algos was right -- he was a weakling who couldn't ever hope to protect her.

The lights blinked off again, coming back on to reveal Algos having taken yet another step toward him. Both of her hands were outstretched, primed to tear their way into him, her sickening smile seemed to stretch beyond her cheeks, with her jaws slowly beginning to open. Shrinking up and holding himself, Vanyel's eyes started to close as tears welled up in his eyes. But, before his eyes could fully shut, Calypso looked at him, finally noticing the silver tears dripping onto his body and healing his arms.

Her eyes seem to bore into his soul, still retaining their gentle gaze, looking to him with desire, telling him that he had to get up and that he was the only one who could stop her, that...his power had done something. He opened his eyes, slowly swiping his hand in front of him, and a wave of lightning screamed to life as he rippled across the floor, instantly switching Algos' expression from joy to hate and the lights flickered, the woman instantly seeming to have moved back a few paces.

Power...this was his power.

He heard Calypso speak again, turning to look up at her massive form, before to his hand, with the man swallowing the lump in his throat. He could protect her -- even if he wasn't strong enough now, he knew that he could get stronger, for Calypso's sake. She believed in him, and that, for him, was enough to make him sit up. He couldn't keep running away, all it had ever done was bring him more hurt. Swallowing the lump forming in his throat once again, he drew his hand to his shoulder, swiping it in her direction again, causing another blast of lightning to tear across the floor.

Algos let out another horrific shriek as the lights flickered, the woman repositioning herself at the corner of the room as she growled at him, continuing to shout at him, calling him weak, useless, telling him that he never should have existed or gotten involved -- reaching out to him as her face twisted back into a smile, as if to try and ask for an embrace.

All it did was make him cringe. His lip quivered slightly, but he took in a deep breath as a flash of blue crackled across his hand as he thrust his arm out, unleashing a blast of lightning toward the woman as thunder roared endlessly outside, the flashing blue illuminating the room as Algos screamed, trying to retreat to the shadows to no avail. Vanyel didn't once stop with the assault of lightning, sending countless volts of electricity into her body as he slowly slid off the bed and onto his feet, reaching out with a hand to grab one of the knives that lay on the bed.

Refusing to halt, step-by-step, he made his way toward the figure of Algos, the boom of thunder growing louder with each step he took. He wasn't going to run away anymore -- not when Calypso was here to help him, to guide him, and knowing that he could push past this. As he reached the corner where the woman had shrunk down, her screaming dying down to weak, hoarse, breathing. His arms trembled as he held the knife in his hand, slowly bringing it up over his head.

"This is for what you did to her. For Caly...and for myself."

Before the woman could get a final complete scream out, Vanyel drove the knife into her head, and the body went limp, collapsing to the floor and slowly turning to dust. The blade clattered to the floor as Vanyel wordlessly made his way back to Calypso's colossal form, tear welling up in his eyes as he wrapped his arms around her, quietly sobbing in a mix of fear, sorrow, and happiness all at the same time. She was so gentle with him and loved him even in the face of his worst thoughts and the worst of his life: the worst of his inner demons.

Whatever would happen now -- as long as he had her by his side, he could do it without fear.

Calypso was silent as Vanyel steeled himself, and rose to confront his inner demon. She said not a word, the only thing she provided in this moment was her presence and her loving gaze, reaching out her support and love silently and delicately as she watched him move to strike at the visage of her older sibling.

Watching as he let his power arc and bloom, striking at this fear, and finally slaying her with the very knife used to harm himself prior, she watched as he wordlessly walked back to her. She had no concerns or fears for his humanity - This entire dream was meant to ensure it would be kept intact, that was one thing in this life she was certain of. As he embraced the large void of her form, she exhaled softly, body shifting to reciprocate the touch and hug as her large head lowered to gently press against him.

"I'm proud of you, Vanyel..." Tears rolled down her dark features.

"You're brave and true. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise."

ENTER THE MEGALOMANIAC

Artist: Coda - Song: Goodbye Nostalgia

As the rumbling thunder slowly died down into a calming silence, Vanyel found himself holding onto his beloved tighter than before, feeling her body shift in order to return his touch. His head slowly rose to look at her, pressing his forehead against her as his eyes closed, a gentle, warm smile spreading across his face as he rested against his love, his voice quiet as he spoke.

"That means so much, comin' from you, Caly...thank you."

Letting out a quiet sigh, his forehead pressed against Caly's large head as the room began to light up with a brilliant white light, Vanyel's body illuminating with it. The room slowly began to fade away, dwindling into the blinding, shimmering white. As the scene and Vanyel faded into nothingness, no new door appeared. Rather, the dreamscape remained the same.

Small particles of azure blue began to blink into life around Calypso, swirling together to form a large, lengthy draconic figure mimicking the azure blue particles in color. Four wings rested against its long body and four legs kept it upright. An almost illusionary form of Vanyel manifested next to it, smiling warmly. His hair had shifted from snowy white to a deep blue, and the beginning of scales had spread across his face and hands.

The illusionary version of himself disappeared, and the draconic version of himself slowly went to lay down, closing his eyes. For the first time in so many years, he felt at peace with himself. The issues weren't gone -- he knew that -- but, he felt more at ease with them as a part of him. He could move on, become stronger, and become a better person, now that Calypso was by his side. He would protect her, continue to grow strong, and try his hardest to be the best version of himself that he could be -- for her sake, and his own.
