Appearance:
A pale complexion on a very handsome yet oh so feminine face would greet his spectators in his own wonder play. His body is that of a typical teenage kid, though barely any flesh at all. He is thin, lanky and jagged. He moves as if he is to pierce someone, and his walk is that of an aristocratic snob exaggerated to make him look utterly ridiculous.
His clothes though, is a far cry from his colorful personality. One would expect a lavish and gay apparel, but what greets them is strange get-up of a completely black justacorps with blood red turn-back cuffs and no particular designs whatsoever. He wears this over another set of dark undergarments composed of blood red breeches that reaches to the ankles and a black long vest. On his feet are a pair of black dress shoes. Though one would think his clothes should belong to a museum as they are rather old to be worn in such modern times, the Mad Hatter doesn't seem to think so and even tops his clothing off with a very high top hat.
His brown hair though, despite his clothing, clearly shows his age. Styled in a modern out-of-bed look, it seems to look out of place with all his antique apparel. It is a bit longer than most, a bit wavy and seemingly aristocratic, but nevertheless, modern.
Even more so to accentuate his foreign descent, his eyes are that of the deep blue oceans, so deep that you would drown if you ever were to look at them long enough. They seem to hold a whole lot of secrets, but it always disappears when he begins to smile and talk. There is also somewhat of a dazed, far-out look to them when he starts rambling.
Atop the hatter's head sits a marvelous invention of his own. Although, it appeares to be just a normal top hat, he is able to store things that would not normally fit inside his hat. (i.e. Mary Poppin's bag) The Hatter does not march around with his zanpakuto around his waste. Instead, he uses his hat to hold it.

P E R S O N A L I T Y
Personality:
The Mad Hatter is as he is, definitely mad. He seems to zone everything out and focus on one whole subject of inquiry which is probably yet another ridiculous and outlandish object. He views things in a wide array of words and some don't even exist in the modern world, or probably he made it up himself. In all cases, he seems like a natural nut job with a fixation for everything sweet and of course, his most gracious tea.
Tea parties are a must for the Mad Hatter's free time, in which case he always seems to have so. He seems to drone on how he 'killed time' such that he has to have tea party several times before the clock starts ticking, in which case he suddenly stops and again begins babbling on and on about mundane and seemingly nonsensical things.
The truth however, is that the Mad Hatter is one of the most sly individuals that exist. He plays the fool, a character he seems to envelop himself in, wrapping a bloodied sword in a stylish and creative package. He likes to mess with people, and would most likely lead them into their own demise. He is in a way, an actor playing one of his most loved part. He is committed to it and he works hard to make it work. His genius is only matched by his sheer madness. Do not let his age and appearance fool you, for his wisdom greatly exceeds his age.
The Mad Hatter's real agenda is unknown, only that he seems to thrive on idiocy and nonsense. He loves ridicule, revels in shame, bathes in laughter and glorifies in his own mistakes. He points, he smiles, he waves. Yes, he is truly- Madness incarnate.

B A C K G R O U N D
History/Background: Life as a Human:
September 2, 1945. In the banks of the Rhine River, Düsseldorf, the economic centre of North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany. The sounds of a new born infant could be heard in a dark and decrepit stone walled room. The cry was a loud one, reverberating off the diseased wood that covered the make-shift pediatric ward. The war had just gone, Germany lost. And the city, the economic powerhouse was struggling to get out of the hole the Reich had pulled them into. And yet, the loud cries of a baby being born at a time when everyone was struggling was a welcome melody to one young missus, a Barbarossa by her late husband's name. She pushed with all her might that night. The night, that one Mad Man replaced the one that died before him. And for sure, he too will be great.
Friedrich Barbarossa was indeed a gifted child, born a genius they say. But for some, the now two year old's stare was a frightening one. It sent shivers down their spine and made them wonder, what was it that made them live? Young Friedrich was of course NOT at all naive. At such a young age, he had already mastered his own native tongue, played the piano and can easily match a sixth grader's intelligence. He was indeed a genius; a genius with mad thoughts.
At five he had mastered four languages, his mother nourished this skill of language that he seems to possess by getting him tutors, personal instructors and as well as etiquette classes. And soon enough, he had outdone himself, mastering over six different instruments, and learning two more languages by the age of six. But despite this, his mother knew he was a monster.
They were not at all rich, but of course, they weren't poor either. So, by the time he was eight, his mother had decided that they move to Japan, her native country. Instead of feeling a bit of dismay that they'll be leaving his home for eight years, he did not seem at all mindful of it. That, and he really did not acquaint himself with anyone in his age group. And he was interested about his grandparents whom his mother spoke so fondly about.
Japan was not something he had imagined it to be. The country seemed to be caught in a deadlock with modern and ancient times. There seemed to be a struggle for dominance over times past and times new. Its economy was struggling and it was trying to rebuild what was lost. The country had just received its wings again, as Allied Occupation ended a year ago. It was then that the Emperor was no longer someone of power, but only a figure head.
Young Friedrich was quite astonished by the difference in cultural practices of his country and this one. Despite both suffering losses, the two powerhouses seemed to be en route to an economic boom, and he was privileged enough to witness it. But there was something terribly amiss. Something he couldn't place his hand on.
He was ten years old when he noticed the little tiny objects floating around and going through stuff. He was rather amazed by it that he reveled at the mere sight of it forming into strange spectral sphere. He wanted to know everything about it and so, he opted to study the objects by observing their movement patterns and forms. It was then, through arduous tries did he manage to 'manipulate' he strange objects. At first, he had thought it was something that can never be touched, but as soon as his fingers touched it, a strange prickling cold feeling covered the spot and he was yet again amazed. His eyes widened some more however when he waved his hand and the spherical objects moved with him. He was entranced by his new found ability. He can control spectral matter!
Over the course of three years, the abundance of spiritual matter in Karakura, or so the town where they live was called, allowed Friedrich to nurture his ability, easily mastering it and wielding it into a very destructive lightning-like form. He has also found that he can amplify his body's physical actions at an astounding rate, especially his speed. He was so absorbed into this strange new world that he had begun to act exceedingly eccentric which cause his family to worry. And thus, at fourteen, when he blindly attacked and killed his grandmother was he then admitted and locked in a mental health institute. It was there that he gained the ability to manipulate the said energy remotely. It took a lot out of him, but he was able to do it. Strapped tightly on his bed, he was able to make his imaginations come alive in vivid detail, fooling the five senses perfectly. He again, was very... exalted. He came to believe he was a god, and that everything around him was his to belong.
He spent a year in the facility, but he would have stayed longer had it not been for that fateful night. The night that screams and loud curses littered the halls of this citadel of insanity. It was raining that dark hour, ten minutes past eleven. A dark figure was moving about in the rain, scooping through cells and devouring its contents. But when it came to his, he saw, the dark figure wasn't so dark at all. It had a white mask, a sheer distinction from its black frame. Friedrich could only smile as it raised its giant clawed hand up before quickly shoving it through the walls of his room, through the concrete. But what the creature did not expect was for his claws to free the mad man, and for the said mad man to blow a hole through his shoulder using a strange gray light. The monster, the larger one, howled in agony, and in rage charged up a dark red black orb and fired it off like some sort of canon. Friedrich had not been ready for this and could only bring his arm up to shield his fragile body. But what happened was not something he had expected. Instead of being blown to bits, the dark red beam began to squeeze into a small gray spherical matter that appeared in front of him. It was then that he learned his third ability: absorption and release. Yes, release. As soon as the red matter was devoured, Friedrich instinctively waved his hand and a similar size gray beam emerged from the ball and punched a hole through the creature's mask, killing it instantly.
That night, a fourteen year old mad man left the confines of a cell that was meant to keep the world out of his reach. For you see, he was not admitted into the hospital for he was sick, but rather, he was admitted for his mother and his grandfather saw the dark pits of his soul and he was proud of it. This boy, who had murdered and maimed will, soon, in three years figure out how to change his physical manifestation, thus gaining eternal youth. This now Mad Hatter, has come to an age where he does not need to die. And his madness knows no bounds.
Sadly enough, a few years after, the Hatter was brought down by a force greater than he was. The Hatter awoke in a strange place, Soul Society.All memory of the Hatter's life as a human on Earth has been completely forgotten. However, he will awaken in the middle of the night with horrific glimpses of his traumatic experiences during his life as a human. It appears to others that they have been repressed memories. However, he remembers every waking moment of his life in Soul Society. He despised it. All of these rules, all of the orders. It was not his thing. The Hatter preferred a life of chaos and spontanuity than living a redundant life. One day, the Hatter just up and disappeared, nowhere to be found by any of the search parties sent out for him. The night before, he had snuck through the senkaimon undetected by using his cheshire smile.
The Hatter wandered around the Human world, searching for any trace of his former life. Being mad, he wished to know more about why he became so mad. However, he failed in doing so. As he sat by a graveyard, sipping on a cup of tea. A tall, pale man approached him and introduced himself as Nanashi, leader of the Fallen. After an interesting chat over tea, the Hatter was persuaded in joining the Fallen in their fight against Soul Society.

The katana is double ended to fit the Hatter's fighting style, mad. However, the katana only has one sheath. His zanpakuto is able to fold in half to be a one-sided katana that looks like any regular katana but with two blades on one side, or he can unfold it into being one long Katana where he can fight from both directions. When stored away, the Hatter folds it up and sheathes it into one sheath. (I know, it's slightly confusing, but that's the joy of being Mad. ^-^)

Release: It's Time
Shikai Description:
The Hatter's appearance does not change at all when in his shikai form. However, his blade changes drastically. The hilt of the hatter's sealed zanpakuto turns into a long chain, about ten feet. At this end of this chain is a giant circular blade much like a buzz saw about a 20 inchs in diameter. However, there is a 'working' clock on the blade. By working, I mean that the hands move, but they seeme to be moving counter-clockwise as if time were going backward. The obvious use of this weapon is to wing the chain around and try to hit people with the giant blade at the end. The Hatter is able to hold onto the blade and throw it while holding onto the chain as well.
Shikai Abilities: (What are the abilities your Shikai has? Do not overpower your shikai.)
Cheshire Smile:
This ability works much like the mysterious Cheshire Cat. Whereas the cat appears and disappears, leaving his smile behind as if it were the moon, The Hatter utilizes this ability as well. He seems to disappear completely from existence, leaving only his smile. However, the smile does not disappear so it is not a complete invisibility. In this state, The Hatter can neither attack nor be attacked. This is a purely defensive ability meant to make the opponent go just as mad as he, although not literally. It only means they will become frustrated if they continue to attack the Hatter while he is in this state. This ability can be used only three times over a course of ten posts. And no, there are no rollovers. So, if he doesn't use all three in the ten posts, he doesn't get to add it to the three for the next ten posts.
Unbirthday Surprise:
The Hatter uses his mystical hat for this ability. Whenever he takes off his hat and points the opening at the opponent, a bombardment of unbirthday cake candles shoot out at the opponent as if they were being formed out of nothing, about 50 'candles' per second. However, with a closer look at the candles, they are actually the Hatter's reiatsu that had been formed into candle projectiles. Although they seem harmless, these candles actually detonate themselves upon contact with anything. On a scale, a 3 second barrage of candle's explosion would be equivelant to the strength of a single cero.
Which Direction:
This ability brings the Hatter's madness to reality. This ability makes it seem as if the opponent is lost. However, it does not move the opponent in any way. This ability seems to make the area around the opponent spin around him, throwing off his sense of direction. The Hatter can spin the opponent's surrounding area around anywhere from 1 to 359 degrees. The way this ability would be used was if the Hatter, for instance, used his unbirthday surprise. He could follow up the ability with this and confuse the opponent as to which direction is coming from. For a little clarification, nothing actually moves. It is an illusion that everything spins around. This ability is triggered by the scent of tea that the Hatter emits. This ability can only be used twice every fifteen posts, however, since it is a powerful ability.
The Hatter's appearance changes drastically as he is now covered in an armor type uniform. Found on the jacket are the innards of a clock. (cogs and gears) These work as a deflective type armor in that he can deflect bala and low leveled kidou. This can only be found in certain areas, so the Hatter would have to move his arm in order to deflect it. It's not something that everything just bounces off of him. The hatter cannot control where the attack is deflected to, it just ricochets off of him.
He now bears a giant mallet
Tea Party:
This ability is a defensive and offensive ability. Whenever he uses this ability, four giant cups form that all give off his reiatsu signature so that there would be no cheating. The cups then begin to shuffle amongst each other at high speeds, too quick to be able to follow. Once the cups are finished shuffling, the opponent will have to pick which cup they believe the Hatter is hiding in. If they choose right, their attack hits the Hatter. If they choose wrong, their attack hits them. Now in order to avoid me saying "I wasn't in that cup" I will state in the post that I use this ability which cup I am to begin with that way it avoids that. As another added note, this ability can be used once every two posts. For every wrong guess, the cups will reshuffle with one less than before. So, if he had the four to start and one was attacked, it breaks and then there are three left that reshuffle. However, hatter does not have to reshuffle, he can end that ability when he pleases.
Queen of Hearts:
This ability allows the Hatter to change the appearance of his giant hammer. It becomes a giant axe where the blade is in the shape of a heart.
White Roses:
Whenever the Hatter uses this ability, he drops a single white rose onto the ground that he pulls from his top hat. When it hits the ground, it is instantly absorbed into as if it just phases through. With a three second grace period, three vines appear out of the ground almost instantly. These vines are covered with small rose thorns. These vines can reach up to 100 feet and the Hatter can control how many pop up at a time. He can have only one out or two, but the max is three.
The Raven and the Writingdesk:
First, I will answer the riddle and you will understand the ability. "Why is a raven like a writing desk?" Well, they both produce notes, which are always VERY flat... And now for the ability.
When this ability is activated, Hatter points his hat out just like his unbirthday surprise ability. But instead of candles, notebook paper flies out and swarms for the opponent. This paper will leave paper cuts if they are touched by the paper. However, that is not the only effect of this ability. As long as there is paper left out, a very flat note will be played which will cause frustration and impair the opponent's senses from a major headache.

Roleplay Sample:
"Excuse me!" a jester voiced called out from the distance. "Do you know the time?" he asked as he caught up to the stranger. The man who had been speaking was very thin and pale. His hair was dark, though. He wore tattered clothing that appeared to be ancient. On top of his head sat an abnormally large top hat with a card stuck into the side that read: "In this style 10/6" The man's eyes appeared to be that of a drunk. However, the Hatter was very much sober. Sane, now that was a completely different issue. The man looked at the Hatter as if he had just been asked to spare a million shilings to a beggar. He merely gave the response "No." Before he could turn to walk away, the Hatter cut him off quickly with a laugh that would scare small children. "You should really get to know him. He's quite the fun guy." he started as he looked as if he were now thinking. "My favorite is tea time. Do you like tea time?" he asked but without hesitation continued to speak. "I also like nap time and summer time. However, I do despise tax time, bleh!" he began to ramble on and on about the different times and which ones he liked and did not. "I also enj--" he started as he was cut off. His eyes widened in shock as if he had just remembered something. "Oh my, where has the time gone!?" the Hatter asked as the man just stood there silently, waiting to be left alone. The hatter quickly lifted up his foot to look for the time as if it could be hidden there. With a mad dash, he circled the impatient gentlemen who stood there looking at the lunatic who was circling him. "Well, I--" the gentlemen started as the Hatter cut him off yet again. "QUICK! THERE HE GOES!" he shouted as he ran right through the man, bumping shoulders. As the Hatter ran off into the distance, trying to catch time, the gentlemen brushed off his shoulder and continued on his way. "Such a nieussance..." he muttered to himself softly as the scene darkens and the curtain falls. A roar of applause erupted seemingly from nowhere as he softly faded into nothingness.
