The Hunger's Cry

The Blinking Hollow
Blinker
His eyes felt hungry and his body ached with it. The moment by moment felt like an eternity. He'd eaten other hollows to sustain himself, able to trick them. But never able to satisfy the deep yearning inside him. This pit in his stomach didn't disappear. It only grew larger as time went by. He laid outside the city now his mind trying to coax him. Jump them when they come to you and devour them. His head shook left to right fighting those urges. His hunger felt like a desert, his name and so many things felt gone. But this need was the only thing that survived. The only part of him that remained untainted or diluted. What did it take to find freedom from this screaming hunger? How many did he have to consume before satisfaction came? When did the pain of being hungry stop? No human food helped nor did drink he found. This was Famine without satisfaction.
His paws trembled when he tried to walk towards the city. Something big was in that place, he didn't have the senses to define it. Just big and out of his depth by major amounts. It was a wall that just kept him back from this city. Too frightened to enter it feeling his paws quake. His hunger while satisfied rarely did allow him moments of clarity. But only after he ate another hollow, his lips licked as he felt fur quiver more as he tried. But it was no use whatever resides in this city frightened his body and very soul.

There was a Hollow here. Not surprising. Somewhere hungry enough or stupid enough or self-centred enough to come despite Ulv's presence being an instinctive warding away from the place. It was no trouble, few Hollows - beings of such powerful negativity - were able to stand her Flame long enough to do anything. A few lost themselves and tried to eat the buildings. Not entirely unsurprising, the buildings were saturated with power.
Still, Ulv could feel this one. There was more to him than just the hunger, which was interesting. So instead of just let him melt under the harsh sun, she would come to him in a gentle gust of wind and crouch down. To the hollow, it would be strange. For she was a being that didn't seem to have any reiatsu at all, and yet at the same time be hundreds of times larger than she had any right to be.
"Hey"

It was like a weight was in the air, he wasn't sure about it. He'd not been entirely spiritually aware when alive. As she appeared his head lowered to the ground his teeth gritting in his maw. He couldn't stay upright around her. She was a presence akin to the Great Wall or something. When a small one stood before them they felt akin to ants. His eyes looked up as he swallowed. Trying to find words in his throat as his tails swished nervously. His body trembled beneath her presence alone. That was the might of the woman before him. Hunger drove his body and mind ragged and he held on. Holding on to anything he could resembling humanity. His eyes like radioactive yellow color looked up at her. "Hello, I'm...sorry I'm intruding on your city." He said struggling before her as fear came to him. Instincts in his ears screaming for him to run. Had he not been covered in fur would be glistening. Dripping under his chin as his nose sniffed at the air cautiously.
This was the presence of Ulv Auber, the Mayor of this city. Something one such as him couldn't withstand. A simple hollow on his first year of life. Barely clinging to his memories of what life was. What he was, his name was all but forgotten. But he clung to anything he could find. Any shred of himself that wasn't this undying hunger.

"It's ok, nobody here is intruding. Though, before we go any further I do offer you a choice. See, the overwhelming gnawing hunger you have is the void were your heart used to be. You can't fill it, you'll never be away from it, and the best you can hope for after a lot of effort, is to be in control of it. I can see you retain human sensibilities and principles, which must make being a Hollow that much harder.
So, I can offer you the chance to cease in a way you'll not even realise. You'll close your eyes for a second, and then you'll be reborn as a none-cancerous abnormality in the nature of the world. A brighter, better, easier world"

His body relaxed beneath her voice as he listened. He was cancer on the world itself and became something akin to this. He'd lost himself more and more each moment. But he held on with a grip tighter, his eyes held fear in them. Her presence made him nervous. Plenty had tried to kill him over and over. The hunger he fought with every single moment. It was a life that hurt and held pain inside of him. His eyes shifted as he couldn't stop her. He knew it inside himself that if he didn't hold on. It would be difficult, was it impossible to do good? Was there no place he could exist and do good things? He hunted fellow hollows, creatures akin to him. Never seeking humankind out and only going for those who attacked him to escape. "Is..there no way this life..can do good? Have I truly become such an abomination?" He didn't understand it all, his life span had been only a year.
It was a question that lingered beneath the hunger. Could he not be normal like other people? Could this power he gained from his death not be useful? Was it truly him being trapped in this body for eternity? He'd seen coldness and evil of similar beings. Those who fought and forged ahead, could his instincts not be tamed? Was there no path forward for him to help people? He was something ugly meant to be cleansed and broken. His mind seemed to continue as he guessed the answer was no. That no good came from being the way he was. Could he not train or find someone to help him chain this hunger? It seemed like she was right the more he thought. Would it hurt so much to die and disappear from this world? He clutched to his humanity with everything he could. That was simply all he could accomplish.
His body felt the tension and trembling as a voice asked if he intended to die? No way to satisfy his hunger and its endless place. What could he do, she was going to say it was impossible. Nobody cared if he was here anymore, those who loved him as a human. They condemned him and let him die for another's crimes.

"Ehh, Vasto Lorde and even to a lesser degree Adhujchas have the hunger under control. It's not quite all-consuming anymore because you've got a lot of power under your belt and that is filling in somewhat. Takes a while though, and you gotta fight the desire to go apeshit and get that power the easy way. But even killing Hollows means denying countless thousands of people the right to their reincarnation just so you can feel less bad about yourself.
There is, of course, another way. Gikon can be used to curb your hunger and keep your head in check. But, the problem with that is that Hollows need to eat in order to grow in power. You rely on Gikon, and the rest of your immortal life is spent slaved to a pill and the gnawing understanding that if you ever run out and can't get any, you'll revert right back to starving crippling hunger. Hitting thrice as hard because you've had a life where you haven't needed to deal with that. Ultimately, there isn't much of a way your life can be good. It is either morally reprehensible, or it is physically slaved to a drug for the rest of your eternal life"

No matter what he did it was an evil life, a slave to the baser instincts. Was their no survival from this? Evolving himself further by eating others, was it the only way? So far he'd managed to only go after the evilest of his kind. Those who hunted not for survival but for the joy of it. For the misery they caused, but what did that make him? What right did he have to play judge, jury, and executioner? Was their not a purpose he could serve? Outside of being a vigilante on his own kind, stopping those who hurt others? The humanity of it stank of elitism which he didn't have. He held no power beneath his belt. Nothing of his own that made him better than others. He'd already consumed many hollows feeding on the hunters of humans. He got that sense she was right, the void in him only grew. But he kept ahold of something to keep his sanity. To retain what he could and not lose himself.
"Are their no scientists or anything who've studied us? The only salvation is death, I've played god and acted as though because I hunt only those who hunt humans and trouble this world..Like it made me better, it doesn't I'm just another chain in the wheel."
He said admitting it as he looked at her now his eyes trying to make contact. It was hard she held tremendous pressure. He didn't have an answer he didn't want to die. He truly wished to live in his heart, but another part of him feared it. Feared to lose himself to this endless hunger and devouring. Did they not deserve a chance at reincarnation? What made him have that right to condemn them to an eternity of endless pain? He was no better than those who condemned him to his fate.

"Plenty of scientists have studied hollows. It's how we know you are beings of condensed negativity who shouldn't exist. But humans gotta love drama. The iconic hollow hole in the is your heart. Or, lack thereof. Now, this is not to say you absolutely have to die. You've been doing well so far and Hollows aren't going out of fashion till one of these genocides actually catches on and wipes everyone out of the world forever. So don't feel you must die simply because life sucks. It's just how you value your life over other lives. Choices are a core and indeed, the only part of the world. Everything is a choice made and what comes from that choice"

He began to try and find strength in his paws. Trying to push himself upwards as his eyes glanced up to the sky. He couldn't give in not yet if he gave up here. It would make him less in his next cycle. He'd already consumed others if he gave up wouldn't it damn them? Wouldn't they forever disappear as he looked thoughtfully on it? No, perhaps it would free them as his eyes became narrow for a moment. It would free those who tortured others into reincarnation into a new life? Had he not already done horrible things with this? He considered it as something darker did enter him? Why did he have to die for them to be free after what they'd done? Some of them he'd seen almost go towards hell. He'd seen one dragged into it after dying. He mostly ate those who were going down. But did he have a right to judge those cruel beings?
"I...am scared of dying again, I just want to live. I don't want to hurt this world, but at the same time...I am.." His words cut off as he simply looked down. He didn't have an answer for this. He felt guilty for not wishing to die. For being frightened and fearful of dying again. But he had no right to judge people or be the one who condemned others. Gikon was an option as she stated but something about it. Felt less satisfying to him, devouring was the only way to prosper. But even so, he had no right to consume that many. He'd already dirtied his paws with blood. So why not press on and try to make his actions worth something? Try to help those here with what he could do, despite his hunger and suffering?

"Mmhmm. Selfishness isn't a abnormality. Honestly, 9/10 times, people will think of themselves before others. See, the possible betterment of others against the absolute cessation of your life is very easy to make a decision for. One of them, you have no way of knowing will ever actually come to pass, but the other is right there. Obvious, evident, and right in front of you. Not wanting to die is a very human thing, and people do a lot of things in the pursuit of the desire to stay alive. If you think you are doing 'Good' by hunting hollows, then that's fine. You are a dark mirror of humanity but not anything they couldn't already do.
Nor does that have to be all you are. You are going to get killed eventually because you live a very dangerous life, so dying now or dying then is not something that is really all that different"
