Madness Capital Event: The Insane City [JOIN NOW]

The Madness Capital is open to All Characters! Starting threads will take place between now and the second week of November.

Who: Open To All Characters

What: Aiding or Attempting to Conquer Beijing, K-World's Capital

When: On 10/24/2419 the miasma sprouted. Individuals began being able to penetrate through it without going immediately going mad on 10/31/2419.

Where: Beijing, China.

How: The Doctor's Madness Wavelength has gone crazy, creating a particular miasma throughout the city. There is no communication in or out of the miasma; it has lasted for two weeks so far.

Rewards: Characters who participate in the battles and other events happening through the city will gain renown among their own and other factions, as well as experience in such a catastrophic event. Characters who go mad will receive a significant increase in their spiritual power once they are subdued.

0 and 1 tier characters will focus their efforts towards the center of the City, where the most devastating maelstrom is located. It is also the safest place for them from the madness. Lower tier characters, therefore, should work throughout the city to capture territory and work to save civilians, or fight those of opposing factions.

The end of the Doomsday attack by Sosuke Aizen on the Capital of K-World's China, Beijing, resulted in the Doctor, Kabuto Hebi, becoming nearly overwhelmed. The end result was a clash that did not decimate the city; the Doctor had succeeded in its defense.

However, this success came at a cost; the Doctor's own Madness Wavelength had reached critical levels. During the battle, and shortly afterward, the survivors of their battle found themselves surrounded by trauma. One man's soul was destroyed. The other's risked destruction, as the Madness that surrounded him overwhelmed his mental state.

Madness. Paranoia. Fear.

These feelings resonated with the Madness Wavelength, echoing throughout the city. People ran for their lives, rioting and pillaging whatever was in their path, their senses abandoned. The Wavelength grew so strong that it created a kind of miasma around Beijing. Purple in color, this miasma had a profound effect on the people who reside within the city. They do not want to leave the City; they make no effort.

Protagonists:
Protagonists will be primarily trying to stop the Doctor. These will include members of Lux Orior and the Gotei trying to contain the spreading radius of the Wavelength. Killing or being otherwise involved in subduing the Doctor will gain a significant level of renown within one's own organization; causing them to stand out and likely become eligible for promotion or other rewards.

The sub-mission is to subdue and potentially capture dangerous elements who have come to Madness Capital, or rescue allies who have fallen to the effects of the Madness Wavelength. These acts will also be recognized and make the characters who participate in them eligible for rewards.

Lux Orior in particular is very interested in the idea of gaining this foothold in China for an eventual campaign to wipe K-World's foothold on the planet away.

Antagonists
Antagonists will be trying to gain a foothold over China. This would be a great opportunity to politic one's way into gaining power over K-World, or China itself, with its massive population. K-World members themselves will be trying to get the city back under control while others are continuously falling prey to the Madness Wavelength. Rescuing allies who have fallen, or defeating/capturing those Protagonists who wander into the city.

Shadowfall/K-World The Doctor is allied with and considered a high-value asset by these two factions. Subduing him will be rewarded, but killing him will not, and they would prefer he be brought back alive.

Effects of the City-Wide Cloud of Miasma:
The barrier has a much more potent effect towards the outside of it, and the effects of the Madness Wavelength is much more potent on those with high spiritual abilities near the outskirts of the city. The further one goes towards the city's center, the less severe the effects of the Madness are.

Effects of the Madness:
In addition is the madness it puts inside of people. This merely causes them to act in a way that they never would normally; not essentially in a violent manner. One shared trait is that those affected no longer feel fear. Most will find that they have a permanent grin on their face from the madness. They will feel no need to attack the Doctor or to leave the City itself.

There are... two ways; two ways only outside of death that the madness can be broken. This is because of the fact that as soon as the madness enters the body of a person, it spreads to every single part of them, instantaneously; through blood, through mind, through soul, through energy; all of it. The first is with the Doctor's influence over the area removed. The second is the person that it has afflicted completely draining themselves of their spirit pressure, or being rendered otherwise unconscious. This means that even if someone is infected in their blood; if they resist to the point they have no energy left; have someone convince them on a deeper level to use it all up, or become completely exhausted while fighting, they will cease their madness. In addition, they will still receive the bonus of the Wavelength if it is destroyed, as long as they stay within the city limits.

Additional Information:
Madness infliction looks at two stats: Willpower/Determination and Focus. If a character is beginner or untrained in one of these areas, they will be afflicted with the Madness unless they are unprotected in about 1 to 2 posts. If a character were to have an Adept in each skill, it would take them between 5 and 7 posts in most circumstances before the Madness takes hold completely. With each skill increase past this point in either stat, the length of time someone can endure increases by another two to three posts. Characters who have Advanced or higher in each stat may be able to resist the Madness taking hold for the duration of a thread.

However, the madness can be resisted or fallen to dynamically. Mental trauma makes the Madness much more potent on a target. Similarly, mental focus can cause for it to take effect slower. If someone were to actively resist it, they could go much longer without it taking hold. Similarly, mental bulwarks and other kinds of spiritual protectors or reinforcement of mental abilities will increase the time a character can last. However, even in these cases, and even if resisted completely, the Madness should have some minor effect on characters involved.

Spread: For the past week, the Miasma that makes up the City-Wide Cloud has been growing larger, and larger. This is one of the reasons why each organization has made stopping its growth a priority. If the situation is not addressed, it will continue to grow, affecting more and more of Asia.

If you would like help determining if your character is affected by the Madness, talk with staff. If you want to have your character start out their thread Mad, you may do so.

Minor Events

Cooperation
Both Shadowfall and Lux Orior have organized a group of officers who are able to handle themselves in order to explore the outer edges of the city and rescue civilians.

Dead Rising
On the Outskirts of Madness Capital, the Dead have begun to rise from their graves. Mad zombies have begun to move toward the city; a veritable army of rotting, unafraid corpses enchanted by Madness. If they are not answered, they will likely ambush rescuers within the city.

A mini-event where we are actively seeking for a roleplayer to create a Sueki of Flesh specifically looking to take over one of the Dead Rising hordes. Lone Gunman
Within the Inner Ring, someone has been taking careful, precise shots. The range of his weapon seems to reach throughout the entire city. He has not interrupted any of the battles happening within the Inner Ring, however he is knocking down and realigning where those afflicted by Madness are going, and has been slaying corpses that are on the verge of overwhelming those who are still resisting. If he comes under attack, he is willing to accept assistance from a single ally. More than that, the Gunman believes would be wasted with the other problems running rampant throughout the city. High tier madness-afflicted characters are needed to stop this Gunman, as he is identified as a high-priority threat to the continuation of the Madness Capital.
