SHUNSUI KYORAKU | THE GAME MASTER

While Shunsui had always had an eye out for the Gotei, and was keeping himself trained up over the past few years, he hadn't always been a Captain during this time. He'd just returned to his duties about a year and a half ago, when it was clear that there wasn't anyone who'd be stepping up to claim the captaincy of the fourth division. During the time he'd been taking more of a backline approach Nanao had gone to keep up appearances and strengthen alliances between the Gotei dispatched soldiers and other organizations who were on their side. Just recently he'd heard that Nanao was now returning from her mission, which had been a great success, and that she would arrive within the next few days. Since he'd heard this Shunsui had been waiting patiently, pacing back and forth within the confines of his division's headquarters.

Eventually he looked up towards the window and peered out onto the grounds. In the distance he could see Nanao making her way towards the offices. Unable to contain himself for any longer Shunsui pulled the window open and yelled down towards the approaching figure. His voice carried itself far beyond what would have been necessary to be heard from such a distance, but that couldn't be helped.

"NANAO CHAN"

He could almost see the exasperation on her face from where he stood, but he took no heed. Leaning out of the window somewhat further than what could have been deemed safe, Shunsui began to wave dramatically with his right arm. It had been a long while since he'd been in contact with Nanao, and underneath the usual overdramatized reaction he was genuinely pleased to be seeing her again. After he'd made his presence known he closed the window, made his way to the entrance of the division headquarters, and waited for her by the door, which he casually opened.

NANAO ISE | KIDO EXTRAORDINAIRE

How long had it been? A few years? Nanao had been busy in Karakura and other areas on Earth for the Gotei to assist in management of shinigami forces that weren't aligned with the Gotei United. She had definitely been out though before the Gotei United had come along, still being the Gotei Thirteen. Her departure had mainly been an assignment since her captain was not really a captain anymore until it turned out that was not the case anymore so here so was to take back up her role beside him.

She had hoped he would not make such a scene though, calling out to her and adding that dreaded chan to it made her stop for a moment to try and catch sight of him while her hand tried to provide sufficient coverage to block out the glare from the sun to no avail until she saw what could only be Shunsui himself leaning out of the window precariously. She made a mental note to scold him as she kept her course until finally the two of them met on equal, firm ground that neither would fall from.

"Good afternoon captain. I'm sorry I didn't come back sooner after hearing about your reinstatement. Although please don't lean out the window so dangerously again."

The small woman's figure shifted a little from the shopping bag in her hand. She had made sure to avoid buying any underwear or products that could earn her a playful quip from him.

"How have you been? I hope you haven't been slacking off from your duties."

Her own little quip which was hardly a smart comment but more a small scolding to the otherwise responsible captain that she babysat. Underneath her pristine attitude and attempt to tick all the boxes for her duties she did genuinely hold a great deal of concern for his health. If not too much.

SHUNSUI KYORAKU | THE GAME MASTER

As she got closer and closer Shunsui let a smile spread across his face. Nothing too goofy, just a showing of genuine joy.

"Good afternoon, Nanao. I heard your mission on earth was a great success, how was that? And don't worry about it, things have managed to hold themselves together in your absence."

Shunsui closed the door behind them, keeping any small insects out of his division's headquarters. Everything was much the same as it had been before Nanao's departure, even if he was the head of a different division now, the day to day happenings were much the same as they had been previously.

"You haven't been back for five minutes and you're already scolding me. I wouldn't expect anything less. Well, I'll have you know everything's been done on time ever since I've become captain again. I just make other people do it."

Shunsui said this last sentence jokingly. He had, of course, been doing his own work as captain, and had been exceptionally professional about it in recent times. With Nanao gone he'd had to pick up much of the slack she left in her absence. Slack that was admittedly originally part of his own job, but nonetheless his workload had increased considerably.

It had been a much harder job with Nanao busy elsewhere, and although he did already have a vice captain he was trying to think of a way to keep her around. It wasn't something he had to come up with on the spot, but it had been crossing his mind ever since he'd heard she was returning. Perhaps he could create a separate position for her? Or he could have a dual vice captaincy, but he'd always thought that it took something away from the prestigiousness of the position. He would figure something out in the end. Meanwhile, it was just nice to have Nanao back in soul society.
