He was in the middle of clearing a rather small pizza joint nestled in between what looked like a clothing store and hobby shop when he heard the sounds of conflict coming from further down the street. In the distance the hero of honor could see the Shinigami and Quincy going in on the Hollow with reckless abandonment. Internally Steiner thanked whatever divine being was up above that he had cleared that area moments before they had started going in on this particular Hollow, but something inside of him did not feel right. Looking at a nearby window and catching a glimpse of himself, he realized how sad he looked at the state of affairs that was going on at that very moment. In a way, he felt like he had been relegated to a task, that though heroic in nature, was rather ill fitting for a man who had spent every waking moment of his life training to stop big monsters like the one stomping through the area. He remembered that feeling of having powers, of making a difference, and of fighting the horrors that the world had to offer.
But those were just memories, fleeting at best, and Steiner who had been relegated to search and rescue knew for a fact that it would be pointless for him to run back into the maws of hell to do battle with such a being. Yet he continued to look at himself in the window and with each and every second he looked, allowing resignation to this role seep in, the more and more miserable he looked. Steiner's grasp on the sword he had bought turned his knuckles white as the last of the customers from within the pizza shop made their way down the street to escape the conflict. For a moment he would look away at the fleeing civilians as they beckoned to him to follow them as they made their way to safety. For a second Steiner was about to follow them and why shouldn't he? This was a world where power trumped effort no matter how hard one tried to escape it. That was the reality of the situation and if someone like him went back into the conflict behind him, he would surely be hurt or worse killed. For another fleeting moment, Steiner stood shaking as he struggled internally with all of his hard-wiring and after that moment was over, Steiner knew what he had to do.
"Keep going that way...you will be safe if you just keep going!", he shouted as he loosened the grip on his sword and looked back at the conflict that was brewing behind him. The people didn't wait for him as they began to rush to the location that Steiner had told them would be safe while he continued to stare back at the three super powers battling each other for dominance in that area. "What are you doing Stein...you know what is going to happen if you go back and fight this fight. You know you have no place in this war...you are only human after all!", Steiner shouted at himself as he walked over to a nearby wall and slammed his head into it softly. For a few seconds he stood there, breathing heavily as he began to think of all the possible outcomes that his decision to return to the battlefield would lead, and just how stupid of an idea that this was going to be. Yet he never once talked himself out of it and after retracting his head from the wall, he turned to face the war zone that only moments ago had been a peaceful day in the market. He took a deep breath and began to run forward, passing by familiar obstacles and familiar sites as he did so.
He paused as he grew near, ducking behind a nook that led into an alleyway as he began to survey the scene of what was going on, and see where he could best serve the two fighting the Hollow. The Quincy remained at range, firing shots off to do decent enough damage to distract the Hollow from the Shinigami that was fighting it as well. The Shinigami seemed to be in command, until he stepped in what Steiner knew was it kill zone, and in that instant everything went completely wrong. His eyes went wide as the beast impaled the Shinigami who had saved him only moments ago and upon seeing the Shinigami smile, he knew that things were going to get really fucked if he didn't do something at that moment. "What the hell are you doing!?", Steiner shouted as the beast instinctively turned to the weak human, a blemish on a battlefield of Gods, someone who didn't quite belong. But Steiner hadn't drawn its attention with the intent of being someone else to die in its' kill zone or someone to be smacked around by its tentacles.
Steiner had drawn its attention for many reasons. If the Shinigami had a plan, it would work better if the beast was distracted, secondly the Quincy who was firing shots that were landing could get an easier head shot if he got the beast to turn just a bit more, and lastly Steiner could fight the beast easier if he could fight it head on. Strategically it all made sense in his head, but internally he wondered if he was sound of mind to be running into the jaws of death armed with a sword and nothing more. Well you do have all that training under your belt. Steiner mused to himself as he switched into a proper defensive stance as he awaited the beast's actions. It reminded him of an old classic movie, where a sheriff had been hanging precariously off of a mast of a ship in the ocean, waiting for a shark to come, and attack him so he could blow up some kind of barrel in his mouth to destroy him. He just hoped that this was one shark who wouldn't be eating him. "Come and get me...", Steiner said in a low tone as he took deep and steady breaths to ready himself for whatever was about to happen.

Shio's arms and legs were even now beginning to tingle with the faint beginning numbness that every shinigami knew to be the warning of impending death; he hadn't expected it this quickly, but this hollow apparently had an especially potent acidic touch, because he could already feel his body starting to break down beneath its tentacles, and he could feel the strength leaving his extremities so quickly it alarmed him; he had known that to lose here was tantamount to death. Again, a lesson that had been drilled into their heads with frightening regularity, and consistency: Against hollows, there was no surrender or retreat. You defeated the opponent, or you died.
But he hadn't accounted for how much it would hurt. The caustic toxins that unraveled his very flesh and muscle left him with the burning exhaustion that one normally only got after a very good workout, and left his mind feeling scrambled. For just a bit, he thought it may have been nice to just...pass out right here, where he could finally be away from it all. He felt his lids growing heavier every moment, and with each passing second he couldn't quite remember why it was he was fighting. Had it been to protect innocents? To defeat the dragon? To get the girl, and become king? Or was he simply here because he had nowhere else to be at this exact moment, and throwing his life away was less boring than a night of solitaire?
And then he heard the shouting of a human, yet again. His head snapped to the side, and he looked groggily at the boy, his brows knitting together, trying to fight off his confusion and concern. The boy was clearly watching, and still armed. And there was a girl, wasn't there? Or someone, firing projectiles from afar and kicking up small chunks of asphalt to nick against both him and the hollow, over and over. That meant the fight wasn't over. And that meant his death would inevitably lead to a greater burden on their shoulders. The monster would consume him, his remains serving as little more than a meager distraction from its endless hunger, and then it would go tracking down these two. Shio began to tug against the bindings around him, eyes rolling as he struggled to recollect his thoughts, to figure out what had led him here, and what to do next.
He coughed and inhaled, blood leaking from countless perfectly round puncture holes around his chest and pectorals, as he tried to speak. The first couple of times, he had to spit out wads of bloody phlegm, and get rid of the liquid that was draining into his throat even now.
"Ye gods above, who see all that transpires...no, no, that's not right. Get your -head- in it, Shio!"
He began to wriggle and twitch, hands tugging in a gesture strangely reminiscent of someone trying to dry their hands quickly, as he tried to shuck out of what little remained of his uniform...before pausing in place, paralyzed by the thought of what they may end up seeing underneath. Would winning here, would surviving here mean anything, if he had to go right back to questions and insinuations and accusations?
No. Gods help him, there were some things he had to take with his grave to him, even if they made it a very early grave.

Remembered a small object on the side of her ankle, and quickly pulled it out the weapon in question was a small short sword she kept along the side of her ankle in case she had to get up close and personal with her targets and this was the time to use it...however if she decides to fight the hollow head on it'd be dangerous especially with it being able to spew acid from it's tendrils and they have powerful capabilities to pierce through the flesh of spiritual beings. And that's what the hollow did to the shinigami; she couldn't just stand there and let them both get hurt or worse die but the shinigami was smiling it was a indication that he had a plan and whatever it was she isn't going to mess it up. Staring at it for a few seconds before making her decision to give the sword to the human after all he seemed proficent enough and if he got two of them he could duel-wield them increasing his chance of cutting potential and not be detrimented by standing in a stance leaving him wide open. Estimating that the human and shinigami were about 10-20 feet away from her it'd she took a few steps back and ran as fast as she could before she used her right foot to get a good amount of air time and before she hit the ground utilizing the reishi in the air and onto her left foot to get a huge amount of time in the air, she looked at the ground and saw the shinigami laying on the ground the hollows tendrils that pierced his flesh while the human stood their utilizing a sword stance it appeared.
Her heart felt like it was about to sink into her stomach and if she was a powerless human this would be the most stupidest of her entire life, luckily though she had quincy blood in her and she could use an ability similar to shunpo and a blood related ability that increased her durability albiet it was minor.
So she took off her sword from along her thigh spinning it around before throwing it at the human with small amount of force her voice was booming that the human and shinigami would hear her.
Hey human, Catch!
If the human caught the sword with no problems it'd give him a huge advantage against the hollow in front of him however if not it would least strike the ground in front of him or strike the hollow. Whatever the case ritsuko finally used the last bit of her energy to use hirenyuku again this time moving back before releasing her sniper rifle aiming quickly and shooting a reishi bullet at the hollow; she would now be on the ground behind the hollow with her sniper in hand hoping that the plan worked.
