A heroes purpose [Shio,Steiner] 6EdIfMt

Song: N/A| Artist: N/A | Word Count: 300

Ritsuko wandered around the city watching the general public go about their business. Children running amok going to school or playing hopscotch, teenagers with their puberties and social gatherings and adults doing adult things.

"Nothing much going around karakura...figured" she sighed Without Toshiko or Henrex around it the day seem kind of slow in her mind." People she hardly knew walking by her laughing at their smartphones or drinking a hot cup of coffee.

Ritsuko just shrugged and continued her march of solidarity. Walking on the sidewalk with her reading glasses and 'Small towns are my favorite.' Mike felt a smile flicker across his face. "Small towns in karakura was much differnt than in Russia they have such great communities, they all help each other out. Ritsuko felt the smile grow and she laughed. Today was going to be a good day.

Ritsuko stopped and looked around, at all the people who were so busy, not even questioning if there was something just beyond their eyes. Then Ritsuko connected her gaze with a child's before she realized what had happened. The young child pulled at her mother's pants trying to get her attention, but failed. It didn't take long before Ritsuko would realize that the child wasn't actually staring at her, but something past her.

Ritsuko created her sniper and dime. Her eyes grew wide, slightly in terror, but more in awe. This hollow was...big, yet the hollow's back was covered in tendrils. She took off her glasses and stared at the creature, waiting for it to notice her, and when it didn't Ritsuko took it into her own hands.
She tried yelling, screaming, anyway she can to get the hollows attention towards her rather then the child and her mother.

"Hey ugly, over here!"

The hollow averted it's eyes away from the child and came running towards Ritsuko it's tendrils anxious to pierce the young quinces heart.

"Good at least I can get the hollow away from innocent people" Ritsuko looked around the area to find a good leverage spot to defeat the hollow. Utilizing her Hirenkyaku she created several platforms hers were a bit wonky but it at least got her up the building to snipe the hollow without being in range if it's attacks.

"How does it look, doctor?", Steiner said as he sat in front of a physician on the bleeding edge of medical science. Steiner, who had been experiencing more, and more pain each and every day since he had saved that kid in the wastelands. That alone was enough for him to want to come visit this particular doctor, who now was busily looking over his test results for whatever was causing him this sort of pain. For a while there was a palpable silence between the young man and the doctor, but after a while the doctor lowered his clipboard and took off his glasses. For a few moments he didn't say anything and Steiner wondered just what was going on, this was a medical professional, and he was told he was at the top of his class. So, why the silence, and why the look of dismay crossing his face? "Mr. Franz, the doctors who you went to before told you to not overdo it. The test results show me that your 'condition' is rapidly progressing and that means you are ignoring the doctors that you went to before.", the doctor said this calmly, but he could tell that the physician was not in a good mood.

"So, are you asking me to stop what I am doing? To just sit down and die slowly instead of do what I can for everyone else? News flash doctor! There is a lot of bad things happening to good people out there and if I can help even one person...well you bet your ass I'm going to do it.", Steiner shouted, clearly upset over the fact that the doctor was so frustrated over what he was doing. Once again silence returned as the two of them sat there staring at one another, it was clear that neither of these men were going to back down from their stances. "You keep doing this, Steiner...you will die. I can't guarantee how much time you will have left if you don't stop, but you could live a few more months if you do.", the doctor said calmly, watching his words to make sure not to offend the young man any more than he had to. Steiner was silent, looking down at the floor, and trying to collect his thoughts as to what was going on in his life. Months, he had months if he stopped, and to him that meant that he was resigning himself to failure before he had even tried to succeed. He clenched his fists and bit his lip, all he had ever wanted to do was the right thing, and now because of that he was going to die.

Was he ready for death? "Look, I know it is hard to accept that you are going to die, but no one has any answers to what is plaguing you. We've never seen something like this before and what is worse is it is only going to get worse as time goes on. As many doctors have stated....its a miracle that you are alive at all." the doctor continued calmly, but to Steiner the words were just mute. He didn't want to die, he wanted to continue to help people as much as he could, and if he died who knows what would happen to him. Just as Steiner was about to say something, air horns went off in the distance, causing both the doctor, and the young hero to turn their attention to outside of the hospital window. Steiner's eyes went wide as he saw a giant hollow just lumbering about, so close to innocent people, and they were almost blissfully unaware. A young nurse ran in and began to shout at the doctor. "We need to evacuate the hospital, that thing is....getting close!", she shouted as she ran out of the room to warn the other rooms on the floor. The doctor turned back around to find himself alone in the room, the window open with drapes fluttering in the wind. The doctor scowled, before getting up, and exiting the room.

It didn't make Steiner feel good to have bolted on the doctor, especially after he had been told to call it quits on all of this or to meet his end sooner, but Steiner couldn't help it. Heroics was hardwired into him and in the face of a rather large Hollow such as this one, people's lives were in danger. People who didn't have a rapidly approaching expiration date. So, Steiner kept jumping from roof-top to roof-top, putting his agility and athleticism to good use as he found himself nearing a location where he could dip down into the streets below. Once he had descended a flight of stair on a roof top somewhere, Steiner found himself in the streets, and he also found the chaos of people trying to evacuate. Children screaming, innocent people running around with no place to go, and that is when he caught sight of her. A brave young lady jumping up a step of platforms that she herself had created, Steiner didn't have time to worry about that, and instead had to assess the situation with a calm mind.

That is what he would have done if not for the young child now standing straight in front of the Hollow barreling toward the young lady. Steiner gritted his teeth and without a second thought blew through the street, dashing through, and grabbing the child in swift motion. The hollow, who was preoccupied with the young lady who was getting distance from him, didn't even seem to notice Steiner, and that was a good thing as he doubted he could put a dent into it even he tried. After all, as of that moment Steiner was unarmed. After telling the kid to go find his parents in the opposite direction of the conflict, Steiner turned his attention to find something suitable to take on a creature such as this. "Something sharp...", Steiner whispered under his breath as he looked around for something that would suit his needs. To his right a store selling arms caught his attention. No one was inside and though Steiner felt bad about it, he needed something to fight with, and without hesitation busted the door open to the store to get inside.

Searching around he would come across a pretty decent looking sword, it was almost reminiscent to the sword he had before, you know before it was shattered. He gave it a practice swing and then rushed back out the door, but not before leaving what little cash he had left to his name on the front desk to pay for the damages and the blade. It probably wouldn't cover it, but it would at least help. So there he was, armed with a sword, no powers, and just his skills to help him, staring down a massive hollow that probably would kill him before he could even do any damage. "Wasn't going to live forever anyway...", Steiner said darkly before charging out of the alley he had been hiding in to begin his attack on the monstrosity. Only to receive, for his heroics, a quick dismal by a back tendril.

Steiner skidded across the pavement, scraping skin, and hurting himself as he did so. He still clutched on to the sword and got up rather quickly to see more tendrils coming at him. Steiner used his speed and skill with the blade to cut and slash his way through the assault, but still he was drawing too much unnecessary attention to himself. One of the Hollow's eyes turned to look at him and Steiner froze in place. "Not good...", he said as he readied himself for whatever was about to happen.

Now this was concerning. Reports had reached the Gotei nearly immediately, a significant number of the technologically-savvy shinigami trying to make sense of the circumstance. Somehow, they had a hollow attack. A routine enough thing, but not in Karakura town; they had outfitted it with truly incredible defenses and early warning systems some time back, and they were supposed to keep out all but the worst of hollows. Which is why people were currently scratching their heads. By all accounts, this hollow was hardly that notable, barely even gillian class if that. And yet it was undeniable that there was a hollow rampaging around Karakura Town, planning to feed. Which meant one of two things.

In the event of the first, they would need a captain class or stronger shinigami to arrive, and settle the situation. To strike down whatever had shorted their barrier system, even if for a split second. A message needed to be sent, and it needed to be swift and clear; Karakura Town was off limits. Such a job would be only for the best of the best. Those who could make the entire world sit still and listen for a few moments.

Shio Mora had been sent in on the far-more likely event of a second. He was to find the faulty sensor, or the small glitch in the barrier mechanism that had allowed such a meaningless anomaly to slip in unnoticed. Or to find out how it had been able to survive the supposedly fatal shocks of energy it put out. This was to be a simple observe and report mission; why else would he have volunteered? There was no glory, and needless risk in going out to scout a battlefield like this. No one else had even contemplated going, but Shio had been able to sense it almost immediately. This would be a perfect moment to buy himself time. To get the Gotei off his back, and go back to being another blip on the radar; a nameless, faceless nobody.

And so here he stood, just above the battlefield, watching the hollow lashing out at anything nearby. There were a few humans already trying to subdue and defeat the creature, and for a second Shio felt himself filled with anguish at the mere sight. This was his job, wasn't it? This was what the Gotei was for, wasn't it? To save innocents? To protect the people of this world? He was supposed to be the knight in shining armor that arrived and made everything better. That's what he had signed up for. To be the kind of man who made sure no one ever suffered the way he had.

But alas, such was not to be. He wasn't a hero, he was an arbiter. His task wasn't to protect, and embolden, but to balance. In the same way that one must periodically burn a forest to minimize the damage of unexpected flames, it was sometimes necessary to allow the hollows to have their grisly feeding frenzies; to hold off on intervention until the body count had reached a certain level. It was for the good of everyone, after all. A few lives had to be sacrificed, for the good of everyone. What does it matter if those few suffered, and languished, and cried out in vain? It was the truth of the world. There were no heroes.

Shio wasn't exactly sure when he'd started moving, or when he'd lost his grip on his reaitsu, but for a split second it flared, bright and true, with the same effect as a flare being shot out. The hollow immediately shot its gaze towards him, letting out a piercing, primal yowl that would've frozen his guts in fear if they hadn't already been filled with lead by the simple realization that he had let himself slip up. There would be questions. There would be witnesses. There would be investigations. And that meant there would be fallout. And that meant he had to act quickly.

He slowly, lazily backpedaled, watching the hollow attach its tentacles into the buildings around it, pulling itself away from him, towards the human who had, just a moment ago, been its punching bag. It was an absurd, transparent move, something he needed all of half a second to make sense of. But he couldn't let it show. He tilted his head to the side, watching curiously, with a faint air of puzzlement, as the hollow flung itself like a rock in a slingshot, right towards him.

"A lot more effective when you don't scream first, probably. You should've just hit me hard before I had a chance to get my bearings."

RITSUKO

A heroes purpose [Shio,Steiner] 6EdIfMt

Song: N/A| Artist: N/A | Word Count: 500
First a random human who tries to play all hero almost gets his ass handed too by the hollow she was trying to kill and now a shinigami who appeared to be holding back his true power. This was one task she had to complete but at least having another Spirtual being will be useful; after all since it's a shinigami he probably has expertise in killing hollows of this caliber her task was simple kill the hollow and tend for the wounded.

The hollow turned away from Ritsuko and screamed a terrifying howl as it flung itself towards the shinigami. If the shinigami couldn't handle him on his own she'd had to at least shoot it, so Ritsuko readied her scope and took aim towards the hollows tendrils that way it wouldn't have anything to attack with.
His speed was fast but it wasn't fast enough for her, she filled her scope to compensate for bullet drop and then fired *Bang*the reishi bullet with pin point accuracy as it pierced through one of the tendrils causing it to fall off, the hollow still continued

"Alright let's see how it likes a flashbang... The flashbang had a red/Black design similar to the modern day ones the military uses. It was equipped with a small green button.

Ritsuko figured to use a flashbang to at least disorient the hollow for a bit, she looked inside her bag and quickly got the flashbang, it had a red and black design with a green button to activate it so she the pressed the green button and threw it at the hollow.

"Take this you son of a bitch!"

Ritsuko threw the flashbang as hard as she could, in a instant bright light erupted from the flashbang, enough to make the hollow shirked as the immense light blinded it.

Steiner stared upward as his eyes caught sight of a Shinigami, at least he thought it was a shinigami. He had no had much dealing with them in the past and now that he knew one was there he believed that things would turn out alright. That was until a loud shrieking noise pierced his ear drums as the Hollow turned about-face to go head to head with the shinigami. Steiner had no idea what had caused its' sudden change in target, but as it turned around Steiner got slapped aside by one of its' many back tendrils. Steiner, who had been in stance, and fighting this thing on the ground to the best of his powerless ability was flung helplessly through a nearby store-front window with a rather loud sound of crashing glass. Steiner rolled for a bit, going a few feet away from the initial point of impact, and rolled just a few feet away from what looked like some rather scared citizens.

For a moment, Steiner's eyes met there eyes, and that is when Steiner began to notice a burning feeling all across his left arm. For a moment, Steiner was confused, and looked down at his jacket sleeve only to see it eroding before his eyes. In a hurry, Steiner tore off the sleeve of his jacket revealing the long sleeved teal dress shirt underneath, and with a silent curse he stood back up to assess himself. To be honest, he was in a great deal of pain, and he could tell that he was in the possession of a few cracked ribs along with maybe a few muscle contusions, but Steiner gritted his teeth. He put on his bravest face, turned around, and looked at the hunkered down citizens who had no where to go until the rather large hollow was dealt with. "Don't worry... I'm former Vanguard, we've got this.", Steiner said, not really sure who "we" were, but knowing that if they were here to fight a Hollow then there was no way that they could be evil. He began to make his way to the window he had crashed through, only to hear a rather large "boom" of what could be considered a gun shot.

A few seconds later and quite a few of the Hollow's tendrils began to fly toward his direction. On instinct Steiner rolled out of the way, grabbing his rented sword mid-roll, and then standing back up rather fast. He supposed at this moment he would be better suited defending the citizens inside of the store then making a full frontal assault on a hollow of this size and ability. After all, it seemed like the other two beings didn't much care for his heroic actions or for the citizens trapped around the battle that was going on around them. "Why do I have to be so fucking useless..." Steiner grumbled as he clutched the handle of his sword, feeling down about the current situation he was in, but none the less understanding his place. In a world with those with powers, he couldn't hope to contend, not against something like this, and taking a rather deep breath to center himself he regained his composure.

Steiner scanned the ground level, looking for more people that may have been trapped, and as his eyes glanced across the street he saw a family curled into a corner. They were right beside the beast and more than likely would be killed if someone didn't do anything. Steiner took a big gulp and channeled his heroic intentions, he wasn't playing games, and he sure as hell wasn't playing hero. Steiner was a hero and he was going to keep doing this till he died, how long until that moment came? Steiner didn't know, but he knew that to stand there while the big dogs fought and leveled a city block around them with people in the cross fire would be no worse than killing himself. It was go time. Steiner rushed forward, dodging tendrils that were widely swinging about as the creature roared in agony, and using all of his agility to clear them. It wasn't like he had the ability to move like a Quincy or a Shinigami, but he had speed that he had honed through years of training. And he abused it, jumping through every obstacle. A mortal with no powers doing what those with powers refused to consider as a priority.

He reached the family, he had taken a few lashings from the tendrils, bits of sizzling smoke coming off of places where Steiner's body had come into contact with the acidic whips that the beast had on its' back. Steiner began to clear the tendrils around, swinging his blade with honed accuracy and precision. "Run toward the Quincy, go!", Steiner shouted as he struggled to maintain his poise with the acid cutting through his clothing and making contact with his flesh. He gritted his teeth as the family ran down the safest path possible away from the tendrils, Steiner took his eyes off the fight for one second to make sure that they had gotten a safe distance away before something he had no expected happened. A blinding white flash that hit Steiner eyes and caused him a great deal of pain, but he wasn't the only one feeling it. In that moment the great hollow let out a roar of disapproval as to what had just occurred, its body moving around in random directions, and in that moment sending Steiner flying into a nearby wall and then as a stray tendril hit him, sent him rolling across the street a good distance. Steiner felt skin peel and blood flow as he let out a rather loud string of obscenities followed by a growl of pain. He struggled to get to his feet, rubbing his eyes, and feeling himself over with his hands to see if there was any more damage to his body.

He could heal more sizzling as the acid of the tendrils began to sear his flesh, Steiner roared in pain as he began to remove his whole shirt, and jacket throwing it aside completely as to avoid further damage. His whole upper body was covered in old scars, so he supposed that a few newer ones didn't really matter, and as he scanned his surroundings for his weapon, he found that it was gone. He cursed, he was defenseless now, and more importantly he was in what most people with military knowledge would consider the "Kill Zone". "Son of a bitch...", Steiner said as he began to scan the ground around him for a suitable replacement for the sword he had just lost.

A heroes purpose [Shio,Steiner] Empty Re: A heroes purpose [Shio,Steiner]

Again, there was that horrible sense of disconnect, as Shio tried to absorb everything going on around him. In a one-on-one fight, it would've been simple; one of him, and one of them. But there were civilians. There were allies. And there were liabilities. That meant that whatever Shio did was going to have consequences beyond the immediate. That meant any one of these people could become an enemy, or a target, if he did anything wrong. He held his ground, one hand gently tapping against his zanpakuto, as if he were waiting for the hollow to attack before countering.

It arrived in a horribly inefficient bundle of tendrils and fangs, flailing wildly at everything present...including most of the humans. Shio couldn't help but feel a bit of bile rise at this. This monster wasn't fighting fair, not in the slightest. How was he supposed to land any meaningful blows without there being fallout? And how was he supposed to finish this off without things getting even worse in the upcoming future? He clenched one fist, lashing out in a negligent, off-handed gesture; as he did, he was able to snatch a tendril, yanking the monster towards him. Already he could feel a familiar tingling sensation that told him in a few moments he'd need to start implementing medical care if he wanted to be of any use at all in this fight. He lashed out with his fist, landing a glancing strike against its mask. Even so, it was enough for the creature to begin gibbering and screeching in pain and fear, tentacles lashing and smacking at his back, over and over.

"Pay them no mind. Your enemy is-"

He never got to finish his sentence, as the world dissolved into light and sound, leaving the entire world imprinted on his eyes for a few moments, making him feel like he'd suddenly been shoved into a silent snowstorm. He felt tempted, so sorely tempted, to just freeze up; standing here in place, watching everything happen, and claiming that it had been the unexpected interference of a human that had left him out of sorts. No one expected anything greater of him, after all. He was a scout, a grunt. He had been sent out here to observe and report, and nothing more. There would be someone else coming along soon enough, to solve this entire thing.

There was someone here right now. A human, covered in burns and scars, unarmed, trying to soak up as many blows as he could to defend the innocent humans. He was dying by degrees, growing weaker second after second, and Shio was standing here watching a good man die because he couldn't stop crunching the numbers even now.

"You know what this is, child. This is a child in need."

Shio -did- freeze for a second at that. The words had dropped into his head, as if someone standing right next to him had whispered in his ear. But he knew exactly what it was, without needing a second's explanation. It was a voice he'd never heard before, but what else could it be? He closed his hands, folding a hand over his chest and speaking in a soft, trembling voice.

"Who are you?"

"Don't you think you have more important problems right now?"

Shio's lip curled into a smirk, ever so faintly; of course it wouldn't be that easy. The things worth doing never were. That was what he believed, at least. Everyone else, however...

He sighed, just a bit, and disappeared in a flickering burst of motion, only to reappear in front of the hollow, between him and the human. With a negligent, almost lazy flick of his wrist, he spoke, thick red smoke billowing from his hand.

"Bakudo Number 21: Sekeinton."

The smoke exploded outwards in a span of time no greater than a second, leaving the entire area impossible to see through. For everyone, that was, except Shio. He'd noticed it some time back; the smoke didn't seem to disturb his eyes the way it did everyone else. It hardly even got in the way, as he reached out with a hand, once more aiming a fist at its mask. He had no idea if he'd be able to kill it, and honestly didn't care. What mattered right now was that this human behind him get out of here alive.

"Get the civilians out of here, please. I'll buy you some time."

A heroes purpose [Shio,Steiner] 6EdIfMt

Song: Reign Of The Dark | Artist: Adrian von Zielger | Word Count: 300

She could see the hollow slam it's tendrils at the human throwing him against the wall and inside a small building. Ritsuko would go out of her spot to help the human but this was the only place where she could get a good shot from this distance; she could still feel a small amount of pressure from the human meaning that he's still ready to battle even if his life's oh the line.
Looking back at her target the hollow immediately had it's eyes in the shinigami in front of him, as it was about to attack the shinigami said something but it was difficult to hear due to the distance between them but whatever it was it released a puff of red smoke began to erupt from the area obscuring both her vision and the humans; making it difficult for Ritsuko too see through.
Ritsuko just sat their and sighed for a moment "Why in the hell did he do that...I understand that the civilians need to get away and the smokescreen was used as a diversion but come on.
Sometimes she wished her sniper had some sort of thermal function so she could see the outline of the hollow without randomly shooting causing innocents to die by a fucking bullet.

Luckily the smoke eventually would disssapate soon enough allowing her to see the shadowy outline of the hollow getting a clean shot in return.

"It'd be stupid to throw another grenade, in their I can hardly see anything in front of me damn smoke."

Ritsuko fired a few bullets at where she believed the hollows chest area would be and shot it; bang bang*If she got a direct hit that's great but if not she's have to use her regalia crossbow for some explosive damage.

Artist: Really Slow Motion - Song: Nightblade - Word Count: 1,059

Steiner, after finding no possible weaponry around himself, stood with his hands balled up into fists, and his intentions to continue this battle strongly beating within his chest. Sure, the hero of honor was not quite as powerful as the hollow, okay maybe he was no where near as powerful as a being with powers at all, but Steiner wasn't going to back down from this thing. Not when people's lives were on the line. It was true that he wasn't alone in this, but the two people who were here helping had only riled the beast up, and caused more panic in the streets. Steiner's mind for a moment flipped back to the people in the shop nearby, huddled up like scared animals in a corner, and realized that if there wasn't going to be a voice of reason in this crazy fight. He would have to be that voice. For a moment, Steiner was tense, and then he took a deep breath to refocus himself as he got ready for whatever round number this was (after all he had lost count of how many times he had been knocked around, blinded, or nearly had his flesh burned off).

He was about to go back in when the shinigami appeared before him, for a brief second Steiner wondered if he had turned rogue, and was helping the Hollow. It was possible, due to the fact that the shinigami had not taken any action prior to doing this, but at least the shinigami was a much smaller opponent, though he probably would be no match for his speed even with all the training he had did. For a split second he got ready to engage the shinigami in a fist fight that more than likely would end in him get knocked flat on his ass, but if that would buy people time to escape he would take it. That was when the red fog engulfed the area, causing Steiner to begin to cough, and of course blood would come from his mouth freely splattering on the asphalt of the road. He tried looking through the smoke, but could see nothing until he heard a voice speaking to him from within the low visibility provided by this kido induced smoke screen.

Steiner listened, mostly because he could do nothing more than listen as his sense of sight was compromised, and as he listened he realized that the shinigami's end game was. He wanted him to pull back and start a sort of evacuation, for a moment inside of his head he protested the notion, and then realized that his place on the totem pole was rather low at that moment. He grit his teeth, internally it was a struggle for him as the actual realization that he was unable to be any help in fighting this thing weighed heavily on him, and he wanted to protest. Honestly, he did, but he knew his place. He was a powerless being trying to be a hero in a place where those with immense powers that could change the world walked. There was no place for a person like him on this field of battle. Steiner grunted once more and then took a deep breath, choking a tad on the smoke, and then began to rush out of the smoke as another shot from the Quincy's weapon rang out over the afternoon sky.

The beast let out another loud howl as black blood splattered down upon Steiner's shirtless body, but Steiner had purpose. He was going to rescue civilians and clear up at least this street of potential casualties. He moved first to the store he had been in only a few minutes ago, rushing inside, and finding those same people huddled together much as he had before. Standing there covered in Hollow blood and shirtless, he probably didn't look like much of a savior, but he was there to make sure everyone got out okay. "I'm going to get you guys out of here and to safety! Follow me and everything will be alright!", he shouted over the sound of combat coming from outside. The civilians looked at him and without a word stood up, scared, but none the less knowing that the only way to safety was probably with him. Steiner looked around, spotting what looked like a long iron rod nearby, and grabbed it.

He spun it in his hand, evaluating the weight, and then decided it would be good enough to defend them if the Hollow's tendrils decided to act. So it was with that thought in mind that Steiner and the civilians exited the store, the red smoke starting to dissipate to reveal the creature, and the shinigami. "Keep your eyes off the thing and stay quiet.", Steiner said as he ushered them past him out into the street while pointing to a nearby empty alley that lead to the next street over. As soon as they began to make a break for it, Steiner rushed to the middle of the street, putting himself in between the Hollow and the citizens. This way if the Hollow came at least he would take the brunt of the assault and little else.

He looked at the Quincy nearby at a safe distance, realizing that she was rather young looking, and just hoped she wouldn't reveal what was going on to the Hollow. After all, Steiner had been flash banged by her which probably had lead to a few more injuries than he wanted, but he didn't doubt her compitence as a fighter. She was using a bag of tricks and tools that were at her disposal and he didn't blame her. Still, it had hurt receiving a beating of that magnitude with no way of protecting himself from the creature. He kept ushering the civilians by as his eyes drifted back to the Hollow and as the last civilian exited the empty alley, Steiner began to scan the surrounding area for more civilians. There were probably more scattered inside of buildings and Steiner had to make sure that they all got out alive. Steiner after spotting no obvious civilians took a deep breath and began running toward a cluster of nearby shops.

He may not be able to fight this beast, but he could still try to be a hero by saving these people.

Shio had the home field advantage within the smoke, and even so the hollow was fighting back handily, its many tentacles overwhelming him, striking with remarkable force and ferocious tenacity that was distressing; though it could hardly see him, its strikes seemed to unerringly hone in on him, leaving him hard-pressed even just to stay on the defensive. He had to clench his teeth and plant his feet, parrying blow after blow, and even so his hands were numbed, the flesh slowly being eroded with each strike.

Or so he would've liked to tell everyone. The truth was far more dismal; this thing's attacks were as ill-advised and atrocious as a bouncy ball, flailing around like cracking whips constantly. In the absence of vision, the creature seemed to be relying on quantity over quality, and what few attacks did get anywhere near him were knocked aside without ever doing much more than eating through his robes, leaving tiny holes. He could see every single fissure along its mask, every tiny wound that had healed but never quite disappeared, and he could count half a dozen openings at any given moment. He could've ended this entire affair with a single blow.

But what good would it do, in the end? What would change? They would simply sit him down in a little room, hand him a gold star, or perhaps a little medal, and parade him out in front of the people for a few days. And then they would dump him right back in the lions' den, to fend for himself. That was, after all, the way of the world; the people at the top would rile up the vultures and the hyenas, the scavengers and bottomfeeders, and then they would dump the heroes in there, to fight their way to the top. What was the point, if he had to fight against his peers and comrades? What good was being a hero if he couldn't even use it to help anyone?

Heroism was overrated.

The smoke cloud faded, and Shio's expression was stoic, his hands resting in front of him in a fighting stance that looked vaguely reminiscent of a praying mantis; with effortless sweeps of his forearms, he blocked and redirected blow after blow, doing his best to keep the creature's attention on him. That, at least, was fine. This thing, this...dumb beast, was too useless to change anything. He could feel no sympathy for this white-masked, inhuman caricature of a person. He could feel no sin in wounding its pride, or making it look bad, as he held his ground, keeping it at bay.

He continued to close in, knowing the dumb creature would eventually be unable to resist following its impulses...and made a deadly misstep. He stepped in just a touch too close, right into its kill zone; as soon as he did, the style changed dramatically. The tentacles he had previously been parrying were no longer exuding acid, but some kind of adhesive, that left his limbs stuck on the extensions, and locked him down in moments. And there were still so many tentacles, all pummeling against his chest, drilling into the flesh of his abdomen and pectorals, drawing blood within moments. The shinigami was lifted off of his feet, leaking blood from countless perfectly round holes, that smoked and reeked acridly.

And, for some odd reason, his smile had only grown even wider from his hideous, one might even call completely amateur, misstep.

There are no more heroes. Only soldiers in a never-ending war. I wonder if they even know who they're fighting for or against anymore.

SOVIET QUINCY

RITSUKO

A heroes purpose [Shio,Steiner] 6EdIfMt

Song: Reign Of The Dark | Artist: Adrian von Zielger | Word Count: 300

A faint glow erupted from her bracelet as she summoned her regalia crossbow appeared in her hands complete with a texture matching the surrounding area around her since this was a city the crossbow adjusted to it although camouflage won't be necessary in this instance. Regardless the crossbow was equipped with a 17" limb tip to tip design, weighing at a mere 6.5 lbs and featured an adjustable butt pad for easy maneuvering additionally it comes with a 4x32 scope for medium range engagements three bolts and a rope cocking device. Since Ritsuko was only adept at reishi manipulation the crossbow could only fire so much at a time.

She withdrew her sniper rifle as it disintegrated into the air since she can only have one of her weapons out at a time.
Uttering the words "Sniper's Sight"' at that moment her eyes dilated into that of a golden eagle allowing her eyes too become more adjusted to and those around her. the ability allowed her to determine the location of the hollow and other energies around the area the shinigami and other innocent bystanders were outlined blue allowing her too see through walls but only at a certain distance.

Her eyes darted towards the human watching his blue outline walk towards a few buildings telling people to leave their homes immediately to avoid any casualties.

Before she began to fire she first got the cocker into position, inserting her foot into the stirrup, while using her hands to grab the rope cocker’s pull handles she pulled the handles up until the string is cocked allowing for her arrow to be ready using the reishi within her vicinity she was able to craft an arrow to strike the hollow though not powerful it can at least do some damage too the hollow placing the area onto the barrel of the crossbow, making sure to align the cock vane of the arrow into the barrel channel.
She aimed her scope at the hollow and fired hearing a loud pop sound as the trigger released from the bow hurtling towards the hollow at albeit considerable speeds.
