The thread here is describing more of what is going on in the Chicago event and giving more information about the altered strain of Juin that is present within it.

New Juin Strain? What is That?

The Juin Strain was released within Chicago on the night of Oct 31, 2416 was one that had mutated and became altered due to it's infusion with demonic blood. Therefore, it is easier to think of this as a new parasite altogether. Thus, this Evolved Juin Strain seeks to attach itself to either newly deceased, presently living or supernatural (spiritual or non-living) bodies. And, after coming into contact with a demon host, this strain has been altered to be able to influence spiritual and non-spiritual beings because of the fact that demons are mythological creatures that have the capacity to tamper with both realms.

How Does It Work?

This evolved strain of Juin usually are designed to influence mass NPC's. So, when it comes to non-player characters (i.e. your personal characters), they often look for a weakened host and attempt to invade and override their body. They will attempt to alter their patterns of thought, forcibly take control of their body or otherwise look for other ways to exploit them to get them under it's control. They have many different methods because of the fact that not every case is the same.

There have been some reports of people voluntarily becoming infected by The Juin because it granted a great sum of power and the parasite was reported as being more subdued as a result, while others who were more unwilling had a more agonizing time trying to deal with the parasite.

It can also take anywhere from near instant to control, to the process being dragged out for minutes, hours, days, weeks and even months in some cases with more powerful creatures or those who possess great defenses. And, for PC characters, this can process is more or less the same; but it's assumed it will take much more of a serious fight to take them over.

Do Character Automatically Get Zombieified

No.

There is not a single character who comes into contact with the Juin will be automatically infected and turned into this zombie-like state. (Unless you WANT your character to) This is fully up to the player to decide if they want their character infected. It is also possible to try and defend other NPC's from being infected as well if you have a PC character in the thread and understand how to try and combat the virus.

Is There Anyway To Stop It?

Purging: This is the most common method to deal with the Juin that is known after the events in the Chicago. If someone is suspected of being infected with the virus, physically expunging the parasite from the infected hosts body will usually cease the functions of the Juin. This can be done through a variety of different methods.

There have been those who have used their spiritual energy to try and increase the heat within the infected bodies to the point where the Juin melt away, others have used supernatural methods in order to expunge abnormalities within a persons body to save others from The Juin and you'll have to otherwise get creative with how your character can defend against or save someone from a juin.

What Are The Side Effects?

Deactivation By Creator: All characters, whether PC or NPC, are subject to being deactivated by anytime by the creator of this parasite. This means that they are not allowed to otherwise go against the Juin's creator and they are subject to be shut off at ANYTIME by their creator. So keep this in mind when signing up or doing anything related to The Juin.

Increased Tier: It is possible to see mass jumps in tier. For example: if a 3-1 was infected by the juin, it would be possible to see a one to three level jump depending on how extensive the bond was between the host and the parasite. For short durations, it would even be possible for it to reach potentially upwards of 4-5 tier on the LOWER end of the specturm, but this feat would be MUCH harder if it was on the higher end; such as upper one tier or any 0 tier.

Additionally, it is worth noting that most augmentations will often come with drawbacks and instability in some cases. As the character might find their body feeling sick, energy fluctuating wildly or they may feel as if their power is out of their control if they push towards the higher-end of enhancements with this parasite. As it can amplify skills, abilities and powers along with tier; but everything comes with a cost and it seems this new strain of Juin prefers to keep the host in peak fighting condition and then steadily increase their tier/energy if the threat warrants it.

Altered Mind: It is very possible for The Juin to begin to alter and manipulate the mind of a person who is infected. However, to what degree is varied. In some cases when the host volunteers, it isn't unlikely for them to feel their sense of aggression, rage and distaste for anything they loathe to be amplified in order to further fuel their power. In other cases, they may begin to feel like their memories are hazy, their personality traits are altering and they can become entirely different people in some instances. The degree to which the host is altered is greatly varied among juin to juin.

Physical Sickness: It is possible for the host to feel a wide variety of effects on their body. They can feel the urge to vomit, cluster headaches, body shakes, hallucinations and energy shifts after being infected by The Juin. In some cases, there can even be an extreme amount of pain felt coursing through their body as they begin to otherwise override their limits. So this is primarily a factor when they decide to try and increase their tier during a battle when it comes to the pain part.

Juin Spawn: Juin Spawn are creatures which are typically spawned within Juin who have infected the bodies of those whom are recently deceased OR in those who voluntarily had the juin become a part of them. In either case, Juin Spawn can range in tier from 4 tier all the way up to 1-5. There are often clusters of the weaker versions, but the stronger ones are often more intelligent, powerful and fast on their feet.

And, unlike Juin Beast, Juin Spawn can take on a mulitude of different forms. There are some which can be produced from the body of an infected host to look like a corrupted version of the character with a few skin changes or rotted skin, while otehrs can look like something akin to a cronenberg monster (google that one).

They typically have a one to two-week lifespan, but they can reproduce rather quickly and become a problem if their numbers are not kept in check. It can also be assumed that most of their durability is around an adept level, but their strength can vary from advanced to master depending on the strength of The Juin Spawn.
