The purpose of Selene's death matter is actually rather simple as the substance takes the form of small airborne parasites that can infect a host and cause hallucinations, Scott seems to be the main key in all this as he is the parasite, forming a sort of hive mind as he transfers himself into the minds of others. The main signs of infection by these parasites are often one or both eyes turning blood red and the victim becoming drone like or even simply staring into the distance blankly.

While anyone can be infected it is proven that those with Death Matter and Death Energy powers as well as those with Icker powers have a heightened resistance to these parasites compared to anyone else, however Death Matter users have the most resistance over everyone else. It should also be noted that while Arrancar's can be infected, hollows have a natural defense of being made up of more than one soul.

Selene cannot control Scott's actions but she can force the parasites to destroy themselves thus releasing a person from Scott's control. The parasites, once they infect someone, are capable of allowing Scott to attempt to take control of people, probe their minds for information, attempt to affect their mental health (usually their sanity) or in some cases he can start to shut the bodies systems down very slowly.

The stronger the persons mind is the more difficult it is however as the parasites Selene creates are only as strong as her own mental power. (Eg: Someone higher will skill or higher tier can resist the parasites invasion, but can also loose if the parasite sees an opportunity to do what it needs to do. A parasite can also act as a tracker for Selene. Selene's capable of creating small bug like creatures from her death matter and use them to devour any sort of material such as metal, bone, flesh, radioactive waste, ect. If these small bugs grow in size as they devour more and more. The larger they get the more likely it'll start ignoring orders however Selene still has power over them to some degree. With a bit of reiatsu and concentration Selene is capable of turning these bugs into bombs as she detonates them.

Selene's death matter has manifested a separate being within her mind and that being has become known as Scott. Scott is capable taking a physical form and the physical form can be killed but in the end Scott remains an entity in Selene's mind and he offers very little to a fight in his human appearing form.

The Inner demon is like a Vizards inner hollow, while Scott is very much demonic in nature he also shows hollow like traits such as having half a mask in his true form. Scott was created by Selene's death matter reacting to her being Bi-Polar and giving the alternate personality its own form as the inner demon. While Selene cannot use skills only demons can master she can draw on the hollow energy within her and master skills any other vizard can. Scott has the job of safeguarding Selene's mind and thus Selene isn't so easily effected by mental attacks. A more easy way to say it is that Scott is still simply an alternate personality given more sentience.

Because the two are now separate beings Selene no longer has Bi-polar
