• Appearance Description: Unohana has the appearance of a slender and very youthful woman with blue eyes and black hair. She wears the standard Shinigami captain uniform apart from using an obi instead of the normal sash. Her hair is long and is always worn as a large braid in front. Over 100 years ago, she did not have the large braid, instead styling in front of her as a loose ponytail. During her battle with Kenpachi Zaraki, her eyes appear gloomy and very menacing. She also wears her hair down for the first time and is revealed to have been covering a notable scar in-between her collarbone, inflicted by Kenpachi Zaraki when the latter was young.

Unlike most Shinigami who carry their Zanpakutō in their sash, Unohana has a large string attached to the sheath of her Zanpakutō and carries it over her shoulder, or has her lieutenant, Isane Kotetsu, carry it for her, whenever they are together on the battlefield.

• Personality:

Unohana has a gentle and warm personality that augments her appearance. Unohana is a soft-spoken, polite, and caring woman who uses honorifics when addressing everyone, including her subordinates and the enemy. She rarely shows any signs of panic or distress, and has a great sense of duty, shown in the times that she orders Hanatarō Yamada’s imprisonment and Isane Kotetsu’s chasing of Renji Abarai when he runs away with Rukia Kuchiki. Despite her sense of duty, she will also heal almost anybody around her, including Renji after he was defeated by his captain, Gantenbainne Mosqueda when she arrived in Hueco Mundo, and the Vizard, referring to them as allies despite Shinji's reluctance to do so. With her grace and kind manners, she lets others know quietly that while she may be soft, she is not to be taken lightly. Despite her gentle nature, several members of the Eleventh Division and even her fellow Captains fear her. However, after the revelation of her past as the first Kenpachi and Shunsui Kyōraku calling on her to draw on her experience from then, Unohana's personality has taken a much darker turn. Remaining ominously silent during the meeting with the Central 46, it isn't until her fight with the current Kenpachi that she shows her original violent and bloodthirsty nature, commenting how the scar left on her chest was causing her pain just from the sound of the latter's voice. Unohana herself says that she is infatuated with crossing blades.

Unohana likes strong flavored food, preferring it to bland tasting dishes. In her free time, she climbs mountains throughout Rukongai, during these excursions, she collects medicinal herbs. Once a month, she holds an ikebana class for the members of her division and she is also the President of the Ikebana Club.

• History: Their is no telling how many people she killed or how many people she tortured but during that time a woman with a blade was the known murderous killer. She took the name Yachiru Unohana as she was dubbed the most sadistic and diabolic criminal known throughout the whole Soul society which caught the eye of the Captain Commander. Yachiru was known as the first Kenpachi which Commander Yamamoto gave to her into hoping to her evil ways would end there until that time came where her evil would have to be used for the greater good. No one what was said or done but it her diabolic ways were put to an end when Commander Yamamoto decided she belong into the 11th Division becoming the Captain of the 11th squad. After a few battles and conflicts, Yachiru's dark nature died down at little allowing her to become more focus to a captain's level during one of her missions she met Kenpachi Zaraki a child which great skills and fighting power. Soon enough, Yachiru decided that this child would become a better Kenpachi. Yet throughout time, Yachiru decided to change her name to Retsu which she was taught medical skills which during some decisions. She decided to give up being the 11th Divison to become the 4th Division Captain a great healing specialist who was gifted with healing skills and abilities. Whenever a shinigami or a group were injured the 4th Division would be called which somewhere around the line she met her new Lt. Isane Kotetsu. They would be on call when the 4th Division Healing abilities were needed something her lieutenant would be holding Retsu's Zanpakutō whenever they are together on the battlefield. During Aizen's fake death, Retsu did a full examination of the body which he confirmed to her other captains that the 5th Division Captain was dead. But the great healer was questioning about it during Rukia's execution phase she knew someone was wrong however she didn't act on it but Ichigo Kurosaki saves Rukia from being executed. A lot of soul reapers were defeated by the strawberry shinigami which she Minazuki to help her second in command and healing the others

Something was wrong the seal of Central 46 was broken into they both go inside seeing that Aizen was alive when he was dealing with Hitsugaya's Bankai. They watch as Aizen defeat Hitsugaya as she confirms that Aizen is a traitor finding out that his death was staged but she saw first hand what his Zanpakutō was capable of not being surprised by it. She and her lieutenant told the other soul reapers about Aizen's betrayal while trying to heal Hitsugaya's wounds and tending to Momo as well. More victims were hurt by Aizen's betrayal then the bastard finally departed from the Soul society doing enough damage while many members from different squads were helping the wounded. Retsu went over to help Byakuya Kuchiki. She then settles down beside Byakuya Kuchiki and gently scolds him, saying that he has pushed himself too hard. She then calls Rukia over upon Byakuya’s request, during which he reveals his reason for allowing her execution.

Things started to calm down for a while.....

Many months later, Following the events of Orihime's capture many soul reapers were sent to aid Ichigo and his friends during their battles with some strong opponents. She managed to arrive just in the nick of time to save Chad from the hollow extermination groups which they were forced to retreat and ending their assault. Isane wanted to follow them but Retsu refused her to do so telling her the wounded are more important and their safety. Retsu heals Chad and a arrancar ordering Isane to help Byakuya. During the fight within the fake Karakura town, Retsu was sent to help Ichigo Kurosaki reach the fight just after the Shinigami defeated Ulquiorra Cifer and fought against Yammy Llargo. Retsu was helping Ichigo go through a dimensional runway and actually given him information about Aizen and his powers which she also restores Ichigo's reiatsu until finally they make it to the end of the location. She gives Ichigo enough information hopefully it would be enough to defeat Aizen. She later makes it back to the Human World and goes to where Hachigen and Hiyori are.] Unohana finishes healing Hiyori and tells the Vizard that she should be alright for the time being. Lisa asks if that means that she might not survive, to which Unohana explains that healing through Kidō is no different from medicine. Unohana notes that she has finished fixing her physical structure. So as long as Hiyori doesn't give up on living, she will eventually wake up. Whether or not she gives up, is something she thinks Shinji would know better than her. As she begins to walk away Shinji tells her that he owes her one. Unohana stops and asks him why does he thank her, as she doesn't require thanks for saving the lives of her "allies". Shinji responds that he never said they were her allies as the Vizard look on in surprise making him question what Hiyori would say in the situation. He simply says again that he owes her one.

After Yamamoto's defeat, Retsu was ordered to reawakened the dark side of her in order to make Kenpachi Zaraki into a deadly killer when the two Kenpachis finally met. Retsu in that instant became Yachiru once again hopefully to make Zaraki find the killer of superior perfection within him. They fought a hard as nails battle but somewhere Zaraki was lacking somehow in his fighting prowess during the battle but she killed him then healed him. This process finally Zaraki find what he was looking for to win the fight and finally. Content in the knowledge that he had finally unlocked his full potential thanks to her brutal guidance, Unohana smiles briefly before being impaled. Unohana congratulates Zaraki and tells him he has finally won. He pleads with her not to die as she laments to herself that she no longer has anything to give and that he now has everything and that he has gained a lot in the exchange. She determines that she can now die happy knowing she has fulfilled her duty and that he can celebrate in her place. She finally dies but Minazuki had other plans....

Four hundred years passed, Minazuki was harnessing enough spiritual energy into healing Retsu's wound healing her organs but placing her in a cocoon. Minazuki's cocoon finally breaks and Retsu comes out and she started to breathe she was alive...

Natural Abilities
Master Healer: She learned the healing techniques that she currently uses from the Royal Guard Tenjirō Kirinji. Though she originally learned healing Kidō as a way to prolong her fights, Unohana has become the most knowledgeable on health related matters in all of Soul Society. She is known to be highly proficient in conventional healing techniques and herbal healing. Her knowledge of anatomy is great enough that upon examination of Aizen's "dead body", she concluded it was not Aizen or even real. She is also able to heal more than just Shinigami, as shown when she heals Yasutora Sado, a Human, as well as Gantenbainne Mosqueda, an Arrancar.

Kidō Master: As one of the oldest and most experienced captains, Unohana has advanced knowledge of kidō and the flow of spiritual energy. Her knowledge and mastery of healing Kidō are unrivaled within Soul Society. Unohana is well-versed in a variety of Kidō, highly masterful in healing kidō and is able to easily use high-level Hadō and Bakudō spells without incantation.

Immense Spiritual Power: As one of the oldest Captains in the Gotei 13 and one of its most powerful combatants, Unohana has a tremendous amount of spiritual power.

Master Swordsman: Unohana's personal specialty is sword fighting, particularly her mastery in the art of kendō. She is said to know all 8,000 of the worlds schools of swordsmanship, as well as all the swords, hence the meaning behind her previous name, "Yachiru". Her skill level in Swordsmanship is far superior to even the combat oriented 11th Division Captain Kenpachi Zaraki as she is able to easily best him for a considerable amount of their fight after centuries of not engaging in melee combat. She also has a combat philosophy that allows her to use any means necessary even tricks to gain the upper hand in a fight.

Shunpo Expert: Unohana is proficient enough in this skill to be as fast as the average captain.

Hakuda Combatant: During her fight to the death against Zaraki Kenpachi, she was proficient enough in Hakuda to deflect his sword swing using the back of her free hand to create openings for attacks, and could also use her leg to block Zaraki's sword hand mid-swing to prevent it hitting her and leave him exposed at the same time

Keen Intellect: Along with her general skill of healing, she is able to detect the smallest details in her patients. This aids her in her healing. She can detect anomalies and problems lesser healers would not. She can tell by a simple look what type of medical attention, if any, is needed. She is also a keen analyst with great attention to detail, able to quickly determine how to counteract any ailments a person may have. Her powers of perception were great to deduce that Aizen's elaborate illusion of a corpse doll wasn't real, and that Aizen was perpetuating a much larger scheme.

• Sealed Zanpakutô Abilities: Hitotsume: This basic technique allows for a precision cut of extreme force and speed, it can casually slice through large, multi-story high opponents protected by steel skin. The opponent can be killed with one swift slash that is so precise, that they aren't even aware of it until after it has taken place.

Agitowari: A sword technique where a single sword attack cuts an opponent in half from the jaw down the length of the body until the target is bi-sectioned.

Suikawari: A technique involving a two-handed, overhead slash that aims to cleanly and precisely cleave an opponent's head in twain, regardless of its size.

Senmaioroshi: A technique where multiple blade movements take place so fast that they can literally shred a target into pieces.

• Shikai Special Ability: It is large enough to transport many people on its back (at least a dozen, based on its size when compared to those riding it). It seems to act on verbal orders, and when landing it has the ability to somehow create a pair of bird like legs. Minazuki's main aspect is its ability to heal. When the wounded are placed within Minazuki's mouth, they are swallowed and stored inside its stomach. Minazuki's stomach acids are strong healing medicines and ointments which gradually soak over the wounded, curing their injuries. Currently, it has shown the ability to carry at least six people within its stomach. When Unohana gives the word, Minazuki will regurgitate the people back out of its mouth

• Bankai Special Ability: Truly a being of genuine elegance indeed, Minazuki initially assumes the guise of a gentle and selfless creature, wishing only to heal the plagues and injuries that befall the poor victims that stand before its presence. It arrives and then leaves, taking away the pain of all the victims that cry out in mercy without seeking retribution of any sort, the merciless creature relieving them of their suffering. But this is nothing but a folly, a despicable lie that mocks the peaceful concepts of life and compassion, as its Bankai releases all of this suffering back onto the world. It does not feel remorse for such a feat, taking only personal amusement in witnessing the excruciating pain it had claimed to generously rid the world of... once more plague the natural order of life itself in a manner most vile and detestable. The power of Minazuki's Bankai is actually the extreme opposite of its Shikai. Since the Shikai deals in healing any and all forms of injuries, the Bankai actually causes the reopening of every single wound, of both the physical and mental, among others, of anyone who comes into direct contact with the blood of Minazuki. In essence, Unohana claims that if her Shikai is to bring out Minazuki's physical form, the Bankai manifests Minazuki inside-out, hence the blood that spews from the release. The translation of the Bankai's name, "everything is exhausted", references this power in that all manner of healing, whether by the hand of Unohana, another healer, or the victim's body's own involuntary actions, is completely rejected and all of that pain is immediately inflicted onto the aforementioned victim. In doing so, this would almost definitely result in the instantaneous death of the victim, as no matter how trained they may have been or how resilient and durable their body may have been, no amount of preparation could allow one to anticipate such utter pain in a single helping; thus, the Bankai of Minazuki can be classified without prejudice as an instant kill. Additionally, just as Minazuki can create a makeshift blade out of this blood, Unohana can cause the blood formed from Minazuki's Bankai release to also take on similar properties, making each individual drop of blood as sharp as a blade. It appears that in addition to re-opening their own wounds, Minazuki is also capable of unleashing the injuries of which it has absorbed from victims in its Shikai state at Unohana's whim. Should the Zanpakutō of a Shinigami target also come into direct contact, the spirit within will also feel the wounds of their past become reopened all at once, which results in the blade crumbling away to dust, leaving its master defenseless. Unohana is capable of controlling the degree of the injuries that are re-opened in a victim that comes into contact with the blood.

• Roleplay Sample: Kenpachi Zaraki finally opened up to a wounded Retsu Unohana that she cared about her and that she didn't want her to die but her mission was completely. Zaraki was now full focused killing machine the captain commander told her one of them had to die and she refused it to be him because of their past and the decision making him into a better kenpachi. She believed it then that Zaraki should have that title of Kenpachi and she believes it now. She could finally die happy knowning full well her dutry as a shinigami captain was finally over and that Zaraki is the True Kenpachi, Unohana would have love to fight him one more time though. She noticed her eyes were getting heavy finally she could rest in peace, Isane will make a great captain in her place yet she enjoyed her time with her squad. This was funny her life flashed before her eyes it was a little brief but she got to she images of her past, Retsu just closed her eyes havin time for one more dream.

One was thing was bothering her though the thought of that man the traitor of the Soul sociey known to the world as Sosuke Aizen, she believes he had planned everything all along. She must have manipulated things during Rukia's so-called execution because in her mind things didn't add up and their was some speculations with Aizen's death. She remembers it too well Rukia's was being released from the prison and hanged into the totem waiting for her execution to begin reports were going out that a quincy defeated Mayuri. Retsu and Isane when saddened that Rukia was being executed thinking something wasn't right with at this that something fishy was going on then it happen. Rukia was almost going to be executed until an unknown shinigami warrior blocked the attack people went of the fight the unknown warrior. A part of Retsu wanted to fight but she was more concern about her fellow team mates, Isane went to fight this unknown person as Rukia was seemingly kidnapped. This unknown ryoka managed to have a Zanpakutō with him as he manages to defeat many squad members, Renji appeared as the ryoka gives her Rukia telling him to take her to safety what was going on here. The shocking part it looked like Renji was helping the unknown ryoka as Rukia was taken away safely, Retsu didn't know to be relieved to baffled by this by the fact many squad members were defeated. But she intends to the injured using her healing abilities, Retsu using her shikai helping Isane onto her flying manta-ray creature attending to her lieutenant but things were getting nasty. Unknown to Retsu, Momo was actually injured by Aizen who seemingly was alive then the shocking scene happened when Aizen manages to nearly killed Hitsuguaya in his bankai state. She and Isane see the bloody attack done by the traitor, Retsu confirms that Aizen staged his death which the traitor shows her how he did it with some called "perfect hypnosis". But after all this his departure from the Soul society the battle within the fake Karakura town someone was always there to stop him a shinigami with no fear within his eyes alwats willing to do what was right. It was that ryoka would saved Rukia the one may have saved who knows how many people within the Soul society. The Shinigami named is Ichigo Kurosaki.

A dying Retsu smiles "Ichigo, I believed someday you'll become the Captain Commander someday..." She thought. She passed one to the next life but her story doesn't end here about 400 years have passed shinigami have develop something called phantom technology. Both Retsu and Minazuki were dead but thanks to new technology their lifeorce were being restored as the former captain opened her eyes wonerig what happen to her she was alive this couldn't be true. A new Captain Commander has restored her stating her power was needed once again, Retsu couldn't believe it she was revived again wondering what new eveil and surfaced hoping her friends were still alive.
