Bleach Platinum Hearts takes place in the year 2410, over 400 years after the original plot in 2007.
Aizen had finally begun the chrysalis stage of his transformation, wielding the power of the hougyoku. It seemed that destiny had taken a cruel turn for the worse, and the great betrayer was going to succeed in his sinister aims. Aizen defeated and killed two of the Gotei 13 captains; he sealed the rest in the false Karakura town with powerful kidou, which would last at least three years, leaving the remaining eleven helpless to stop him. Without delay, Karakura town was destroyed... but only halfway. The techniques Aizen was using were sabotaged by one of his own, his strongest espada. The former cero Espada had died, and a new one had been quickly found to replace the former. Feurix Rey was this man, the new cero espada. He alone was immune to Aizen's illusions. The techniques were not only nullified by Feurix however. They backfired, forming a wrathful destructive energy that channeled straight into Aizen. He was between transformations, and was severely injured. Before Aizen could receive aid, Feurix bypassed Kyoka Suigetsu's illusion powers and slew Aizen at his weakest moment, with a sword through the throat. Decapitating Aizen and setting his head up for display, Feurix reigned over the Arrancar now, and stole Kyoka Suigetsu from Aizen. With its power, and his great strength, he quickly seized leadership. The Hollows and Arrancar all feared him now, one of their own kin that was capable of something none of them were.
Feurix disengaged, leaving the charred half of Karakura town as it was. He had no want for the kings key; merely the Hougyoku. Feurix and the arrancar retreated to Las Noches, and the shinigami captains broke free of the seals, only to find Aizen's decapitated corpse and a half destroyed town. Feurix attempted to wield the power of the Hougyoku, but found that it was useless to him. Something about it had changed, and it was black and ice cold now. He demanded research; and for one hundred years remained on the defense within Las Noches, until he finally discovered it's secret. Hougyoku was a tool to grant one's potential and make one stronger, but it served another purpose. A purpose far greater. It was a key in and of itself. To the spirit king's realm, and to something else. Something locked up very tightly. It must have been something of great value and power, to be hidden away in such intricate locks, within the king's castle no doubt. Feurix immediately opened a gateway to the Spirit King's castle, and his army stormed in. Against the royal guard and the gotei 13, many of Feurix's espada died. But Feurix was incredibly powerful, and through his strength and Aizen's old zanpakuto, Feurix defeated his enemies with illusion and brute strength. Much of his army had been lost however, and only three espada remained. The army was ravaged, reduced to not even a tenth of its former numbers.
But Feurix got in. And now, nothing was in his way.
Using Hougyoku like a map, Feurix searched the castle for whatever Hougyoku was the key to. Its greatest purpose was to keep whatever was behind those locks tightly sealed. So it must have been a mighty treasure, something that would ultimately make Feurix the ruler of all. It would perhaps even activate the Hougyoku and make it usable to Feurix. However, it led Feurix straight to the Spirit King, in a hidden throne room. Feurix was attacked by the mighty Spirit King, who wanted to seize Hougyoku. The entire time he had simply been allowing Feurix to bring the object to him, so that he could destroy it. But, Feurix was stronger. Kyoka Suigetsu was useless against the Spirit King, as he was immune. But Feurix's own power held a massive advantage. Poison. Lethal poison, in resureccion. The Spirit King fought hard, but was weakened, and died.
Feurix's and flesh had been cut and shredded, and his body was beaten, bruised, and weak. It was a miracle he didn't lose any limbs or senses against the king. Barely alive, he moved towards the throne. Little did he know, hougyoku was what had kept him alive. It was an entity, and understood very well what was going on. It opened a secret door under the throne, splitting it in half. Feurix left his espada and army behind, limping down miles and miles of stairs down an underground prison tower. It was upsidedown, as though it had been driven into the ground perfectly by some mighty force. Powerful energy came from it, into the palace, and thus into the Spirit King. At the lowest level, beyond yet another massive door, Feurix found the secret. But he was not impressed. There, under a single bright ray of sunlight, was a feeble old man. Seemingly dead, and starved. He was tall, with broad shoulders, yet so feeble in chains and shackles, bound to a large metal X shaped structure that seemed to pull sunlight to it. Special holes and passages allowed sunlight through. Binding magick and ancient sealing kidou were all over him and the X, keeping him bound.
Feurix, curious of if this man knew something, tore down the binding. It was Hougyoku interfering with his thoughts that made him do this. By some odd urge placed in his mind, Feurix placed the hougyoku in the man's hand. In an instant it was rendered lifeless, and became nothing. Not even dust. But the old man did quite the opposite. All the seals broke in an instant, and he slowly descended from the X. He had suddenly been rejuvenated, and now looked rather youthful. Feurix however, suddenly shriveled and withered up, rapidly aging. Feurix had not known it, but he had just become the ritual sacrifice for an ancient dark spirit. His mind was paralyzed by fear as he slowly crumbled to a pile of dust and ashes.... and the rays of light that managed to shine down into the prison suddenly died. Hougyoku was an entity because it was the connection to this entity, the King of Darkness. Aizen drew power from it because he served it. His true mission was to release the King of Darkness from his prison.
The name of the old man was Divus Sobek Tenebran. Aizen Souske however had been killed, and thus had failed his mission. Hougyoku was not invented by Urahara, but had been entrusted to him by the spirit king so that he could develop a weapon to kill the old man. Urahara had failed however, and thus hid the device, and produced the cover story that he made it 'on accident'. But Feurix had fulfilled Aizen's mission, and unleashed a great horror. Divus quickly left the prison, and beat down one of the espada. The remaining Arrancar bowed to this enigmatic figure, serving him in fear like how they did to their previous masters. The castle of the spirit king was torn down, and the dimension it existed in fell apart quickly, all in a matter of days. But with it's destruction, a new and old world appeared. And within it, a dark palace, where Divus once lived. The Gotei 13 were at first devastated, but the spirit king had a son who rose to the throne before too much chaos settled in. A new castle was built in seireitei over the next hundred years, and the arrancar as well as Divus seemed to have disappeared. The young spirit king grew older and wiser, into his prime. By this time, after the long century of hard work and recovery, it seemed things had finally come to peace. It was declared by the Spirit King himself, that an era of peace had begun.
But, this was no peace. A great threat had been ignored, and allowed to grow. Within his own world, Divus had created a new army of Arrancar, and a new species had appeared. The Tenebrae. Divus himself is a Tenebrae, and his ancient species had been resurrected and unsealed. In all those years, while Soul Society and the Spirit Kingdom recovered, Divus and his dark world grew and grew. Armies of strange dark creatures, the Tenebrae, poured into the human world, seizing over fifty million people before the shinigami could produce sufficient retaliation. It was unknown why they were taken or where, but they disappeared behind black portals far more dark than gargantua. For they showed not an emptiness, but a true evil in their nature and form. Soul Society immediately prepared for war, but was unprepared for their tremendously powerful adversary. The Tenebrae fought as a hive mind, with complex strategy and massive strength, especially in their numbers. Soul Society fought hard, narrowly fending off a powerful assault. In response, war was declared officially in 2205.
The year is now 2410. The shinigami developed highly advanced technology to combat the Tenebrae and their advanced organics. Rather than building machines, they form living 'machines', living tenebrae which perform advanced functions. Shinigami technology was produced to combat this and attempt to equal it.
The souls Divus has stolen are being used as nourishment for himself and his armies... will this evil be stopped, or will Divus and the dark ones swallow this world whole?
What's Happening In Earth
The Human world has changed VASTLY over the past four centuries as it looks more futuristic and humans are living up to over 250 years thanks to advancements in medical science. The humans are also aware of the Spiritual World after a larger-then-life battle on earth, which revealed the existence of Tenebrae, Shinigami, Hollows, Quinces and even Vizards. The madness which had happened in Japan had spread like a virus all throughout the world. Luckily, though, before the insanity could even reach a high level; The Soul Society sent out many diplomatic figures throughout the world of the living.
Each of these diplomatic people were sent out to calm the public, work with local and national governments, stop riots from taking place and to stop any human from foolishly going after a shinigami, hollow or vizards. Eventually, the world simply got use to the existence of these creatures and let their governments, along with the Gotei 13, handle these things. Of course their were a number of organizations who were against this and had their own dark agenda, but the Governments of the world would stop these people easily with the help of shinigami.
However, due to a massive increase in the hollow/Arrancar population, the humans have been forced to become more innovative with how they build their new cities. They have created Dome Cities that have protective shields around them that kill most weak-level hollow's on sight, Sky Cities placed thousands of feet in the air, Underground Cities, and even Underwater cities. Some humans have even gone as far to create space colonies on the moon thanks to such advancements in space technology.
What all this means, though, is that it is really dangerous to be seen in areas that are not protected by shinigami, Special Earth Organizations or cities protected by the domes. On the country sides, deserts, icelands or any area left unoccupied or protected, hollow's/arrancar have over taken. It's gotten to the point where leaving most of these areas are certain death unless you aren't a shinigami, a human with special powers, a quincy, vizard or have some type of protection. Most people who live in areas where hollow's are rampant only live up to 50 years at best.
Some humans turn on their own kind and the shinigami, living in underground Tenebrae cities as workers and slaves. These humans are slowly altered by the Tenebrae into mutants, and gain dark powers or hollow powers, depending on whether they're around Tenebrae or Arrancar more. The city of Alherzedt is an example. Humans are often warped into Pseudo-Urbazek there, becoming something between Tenebrae and human. Some even become Tenebrae. Originally intended as a death camp, it became a large working community of Tenebrae and humans. Its the Tenebrae stronghold on earth.
However, all is not hopeless. The Humans have also been discovering their own special powers over the past few centuries. The rise in Quincy and humans with unique abilities has been on the rise. What's Happening in The Soul Society
The Soul Society has been going through a few changes of it's own. For starters, there is a new area outside of the Rukognai. It's called "
The Atarashii Settlement". The Atarashii Settlement is a large gathering of people who grew tired of how things were ran in the Rukonagi and decided to move far away in order to start their own community. The village was founded over 280 years ago and has been expanding ever since. It's not yet known how large the population is, but the population of this city has certainly been growing to a high-rate.
The Atarashii Settlement also has their own law enforcement in order to keep track of crime to prevent it from ending up like the Rukonagi. Also, thanks to the growing number of people from the modern age they are beginning to develop more advanced technology and comfort for those who choose to serve and work for their community.
Meanwhile, in the Gotei 13, not much has changed compared to Hueco Mundo and Earth. They prefer to stay as traditional as possible. But That doesn't mean that there hasn't been technological improvements. In fact, Mayuri was behind a massive revolution of Cybernetic Shinigami called "Deus Ex Machina" (God in a Machine). Deus Ex Machina began with the normal cyborg enhancements (See: Nemu) but exploded when PhantomTech was introduced. PhantomTech changed how the Soul Scoiety dealt with computers. Now, shinigami would be connected to a vast network of information all the time. They would have access to all of the Soul Society's Records, Rouge Shinigami/Wanted People, Alerts from Earth and Soul Society, They can store information in external memories, They can surf the net simply by closing their eyes. Computers were hardly necessary.
Deus Ex Machina's are also very easy to enhance. There some parts that can enhance the shinigami's hearing, sight and overall reaction time. Then there are others that can increase their powers, speed, defense and brain capacity. There are so many things that you can do with Deus Ex Machina that I can't even bothering listing them all here.
The most important fact to consider, though, is that many cybernetics are built to enhance…not replace. Cybernetics are automatically designed to look, feel, and move like normal human limbs. The trend of making one look inhuman with robotics is actually somewhat unpopular and is usually only used in military applications.
The Shinigami once did well after their recovery and brief era of peace, but they now wage war daily with the Tenebrae, and the battles are often costly and daunting...

The Nuevo Espada govern the city, ruling it. It has become a successful, if not brutish and cold community, ruled by the Cero Espada. While they are strong however, the Arrancar have not attacked the Tenebrae in fear of their strength. They are mostly excluded from the war, but prepare their armies and strengthen their numbers in preparation for battle.
There is also word of a new cybernetic type of hollow being created within this city. From what the Soul Society could gather, they are intending on making powerful Cybernetic-Arrancar with the intent to create the ultimate Resurrección form.

Whats Happening in the Dark World
Divus and the Tenebrae have constructed a massive palace city, filled with tall towers and surrounded by fortresses. It was made from Divus's ancient palace, which was heavily modified. It was named Lekroth, while the inner and most heavily defended areas are the palace are the Sanctum of Darkness. Organic technology and the millions of tenebrae connected by the hive mind have made this place an impregnable stronghold, shielded by many barriers and the harsh world outside the massive palace. The Tenebrae have become extremely successful and are multiplying rapidly, in preparation for more intense stages of the war.
The Tenebrae have seduced some with dark power, offering them partial mutation and Messor weapon. Some shinigami and human government officials give in, working for the Tenebrae as double agents. Millions of humans suffer daily in Lekroth, living lives of slavery as they slowly deform and mutate in the presence of the Tenebrae. Many of these humans live simply to die, in the process of creating more Tenebrae by feeding the larvae with their own lives and souls.
And yeah, that's pretty much it. At the moment, I'm still working on the site, but it should be fully up and running within a week since.
