James William Caldwell (Let the stalking begin!) [APPROVED, 4-1]
Sun Nov 18, 2012 12:27 am
» Name: James William Caldwell.
- » Character Theme::
» Titles: Alias - Vector.
» Age: 17.
» Gender: Male.
» Affiliation/Rank: N/A
» Appearance Description: A white haired male with silver eyes. He often wears contacts, because he especially does not like the colour of his eyes. His eyelids are blackened from lack of rest. He rarely shows emotion when he's alone. He has a blank stare that seems as though he's gazing into your soul. It often scares people.
He wears a black cloak, because he simply prefers the colour black. The cloak has a cross for a zipper. He tailor made it for himself. It has a hood, but he'd rather use his hat. He also wears black gloves. He doesn't like any part of him to be exposed to this filthy world. He wears black pants and black leather boots.
» Appearance Picture:_____________________________
- Spoiler:
» Personality: James is a bit strange, to say the least. He is generally a happy person, but he has an... obsession. Once someone exposes even a glimpse of their true self (a.k.a their private self, or hidden self) he simply has to know all about them. He pries until he finally sees them for who they truly are. It all interests him. Everything. He loves to make analyses of people, simply to get a better grip on why humans are as they are. Anyway, he's generally a quiet person, and other than his slight obsession with humanity, he's quite likeable, and can adjust his personality(ies) according to the situation. He can be any mood at any given moment, making it hard to discern his true emotions. However, his "true" self is what some might call a “monster". He, of course, unless confronted and outright exposed, would deny any advances on his mental state. He likes his brain secure. James is, simply put, an enigma.
» Likes: James likes to pick apart, break down, and rebuild human minds. He does this for fun. His favourite quote is "The best way to defeat your enemy, is to make them believe they are your ally". James enjoys tinkering around with things, and loves coming up with blueprints for new inventions. He enjoys intelligence, and usually only makes friends with those who possess it. Though, friend isn't a title he gives out willingly, so if James considers you one, you are lucky indeed.
» Dislikes: James truly dislikes when his own game is played back on him. He likes "reading" people, but hates it when others try to "read" him. James also dislikes anyone or anything that dislikes him. In fact, he dislikes everything that lacks a general competence or will to understand.

» Background:Prologue: A Rocky Start.
James was adopted. He never knew his real parents, and neither has he had the urge to meet them. He grew up in a suburban neighbourhood near the outskirts of Karakura with his adopted parents. It didn't bother him, as he liked the peace. He liked to think. To ponder the things of this universe. Suffice it to say that he wanted to know more about the world around him. Ever since James was little, he had an outright fascination with how things worked. His adopted parents left him alone most of the time, leaving him with ample enough time to create his blueprints. He liked taking things apart, simply just to put them back together again. He'd examine every piece carefully, and always be certain to place them back exactly where they came from. It was a natural gift.
Chapter One: The Orb.
When James was nine, he found a small orb. The orb had some cool markings on it, and it had some kind of fluid within. He would sometimes play with the orb while he thought. It helped him think. One day, while he was out looking for some spare parts to use in one of his latest inventions, he got lost and ended up deep in a woodsy forest. He looked around for a bit, trying desperately to find the way out. It was too late. He was already in too far. But suddenly, he saw something in the distance. It appeared to be some kind of person. He rubbed his eyes. He had thought he’d seen wings on this person. But that was impossible. He had to get closer, but as he approached, the figure receded. Was it trying to hide? He started running towards it, and he tripped. When he arose, the figure was gone. It had disappeared. He marked a tree by pulling off some bark in the shape of an arrow. He would return to this site some other time, so that he could find out who the figure was. James walked in the direction that the figure was in, but to no avail. He just ended up back at the suburbs. But it was fine with him, because at least he was home. James arrived back at his house before nightfall, and he began to work on a new invention. Even at age eight, James still thought a lot, still knew a lot. He reached into his jacket's pocket to retrieve his orb, only to find that his orb had vanished! What happened to it? Where had he lost it? That orb was his most prized possession and here it was missing! Wait. He remembered. The forest! The figure! He fell! It must be back there. It was a good thing he had marked that tree. He would go back the next day. It was already too late to look for it now.
Chapter Two: The Figure.
The next day, James woke up early. He went back out to the woods, to look for his orb. He found the tree, and the rock he must have slipped on, but the orb was not there. It started turning dark again, so James headed home, frustrated. He lied in his bed and examined the day he lost the orb. The tree, him slipping, and the figure. Wait. The figure MUST have the orb, that's the only logical explanation. He went back to the same spot in that forest three days in a row. Each time seeing the figure, each time just barely missing it. Every time though, he noticed, the figure had seemed to get closer to him. The third day, he returned, and the figure was extremely close to him. It was a girl, with wings. Within running distance. He took off after her this time. She was fast, bobbing and weaving around the trees with grace and ease, but James was gaining on her. Suddenly she slipped and fell, then he too fell. He caught her. She squirmed about in his arms. When he asked her about the orb, she said nothing. She didn't appear to understand. She broke free of his grasp, and ran away. James stood there. He didn't even understand what had just happened. So he stood there, and watched her disappear in the distance. James went home. Still, something about her interested him. He needed the orb back, sure, but he felt like she needed something more. A friend. James was a bit lacking in this area as, well, James had very few friends. How could he make a friend if he didn't know how to? He supposed he should take it upon himself to learn more about this girl. That was exactly what he did.
Chapter Three: The Lost Bond.
The next day, he went out to the forest, and found the girl again. This time, she was considerably further away from him. He sat still. Was she afraid of him? Did he scare her? He looked down at his hands. Did he do this? He looked back in her direction, but she was gone. James left as well. He felt strange, to say the least. A mixture of guilt and loneliness gripped his heart. Of course, he didn't understand what it was that he felt.
Chapter Four: The Orb Returns.
The next few days, when he returned to the forest, the girl was there. What was more, was that the distance between them was closing daily. James was happy. He knew that this meant that she wasn't scared anymore. Then suddenly, on the next day, he arrived, and she wasn't there. He sat on a tree stump. He wondered where the girl could have gone. As he thought, suddenly, she was there. Beside him, holding his orb. She dropped the orb in his lap. "I see you found my orb. Why'd you run away? I was just asking for it." The girl looked down at her feet. It looked as though she was straining herself to speak. "You’re scary..." She said back, avoiding eye contact with James. Did she just say scary? "Scary? Why would you think that? Because I caught you?" Suddenly she changed her voice's volume. James began to wonder if someone was listening in on them, he looked around, but no one was there. "You hurt me and chased me." she said. He hurt her? She's the one who stole his orb! He laughed a bit. "And you stole my orb, so we're even." James folded his arms. The girl began scratching away at a piece of tree trunk, it was obvious that he'd made her nervous. "I..I never stole anything. That...that thing crushed my plant." What thing? His orb? "Your... Plant? My orb crushed your plant?" James asked. She looked at his orb, then touched it. "It fell... It cr-crushed the plant I was picking b-b-but it was pretty, and dirty..." Her words became more choppy as she described the situation to him. James looked up at the girl. "You have a strange... stutter to your words." James spotted her hand touching his. "Perhaps due to prolonged physical contact?" James glanced at her wings. "Also, your wings aren't exactly commonplace. If you don't mind my asking, why do you have those?" The girl quickly removed her hand from the orb and turned to face James. It was almost as if she didn't want him to see her wings. "Why...” Her voice trailed off. “Why are you asking about my wings?" The girl asked. She had a strange look on her face, perhaps it was fear? James could not tell, but obviously she was ashamed of them. "Well, if they're a touchy subject then I suppose I won't ask. But still, they are a bit odd, to say the least. How did you get them?" he inquired. She took a moment to reply. She looked at him for a moment, then looked down. She is entirely too shy, James thought. "I don’t know how I got my wings. I just... always remember them being there, but why do you have that hair color?" She said quietly, but she seemed to be holding her composure quite well. James pinched a lock of his hair between his fingers, looked at it, then shuddered. He hated his white hair. "I... I was born with this hair colour."
Chapter Five: The Girl With No Name.
He continued to stare off at his hair. Finally, he looked back up towards the girl. "So what's your name?" The girl paused for an extremely long amount of time. It was almost as if she had forgotten her own name. Forgotten her name? Preposterous. "I-I think I am called a-a mon...ster? I’m not too sure," she said. "Since that’s what I remember." James laughed internally. This little girl? A monster? How? "You? A monster? Why would anyone think that? Your wings may not be normal, but otherwise you seem to be pretty normal. A bit on the shy side, perhaps, but I digress. Why don't we fix this name problem of yours?" The girl looked at him. Though, it would be more accurate to say she stared at him. "H-how? Wh-what do you mean? Also isn’t it more... more polite... to intro... duce yourself first?" Is she crazy? James thought. You can't be introduced if you have no name. "That's only if the person you're introducing yourself to ALSO has a name." James chuckled. "So as I said earlier, how about we fix that name problem?" James looked the girl up and down. She had to have some type of name or callsign. Finally he asked, "Do you have a last name?”. She replied with, "A family name? If that’s what you’re asking then…” She paused. “Then no." Not even a last name to start with? Just great. "Okay, no last name, no problem. We'll start with the first name. How's Lydia sound?" James liked the name Lydia. It was unique. Like, really unique. She sat there for a while, then made a face. She didn't look as though she was enjoying the thought."I... don’t... like that name. It feels too common." Too common?! Lydia was such a unique name! But James held his tongue. "Too common?" he said, holding back the urge to smack her. "Okay... What about Elizabeth?" Elizabeth was a bit common, but he thought she wouldn't mind. "Umm... I don’t like that one either, that one is also really common." she said. James didn't like it either. "Okay, no Elizabeth then." James sighed.
Chapter Six: The Water Faerie.
James paused. He looked her up and down. She was pretty. One might venture to say beautiful. Someone like her would need a pretty name. James smiled. "How about Naia?" James asked. "I never heard that name before, it sounds unique. Does it have a meaning?" The girl spoke boldly, and it surprised him, as she had been shy and distant this whole time. James looked up, desperately trying to remember the meaning of the name. Finally, he remembered. "I believe it means water faerie." He stated. "So what do we do for the last name?" Naia asked. James had an idea. She had mentioned plants before, so he simply assumed she liked them. He thought of the prettiest type of plant he could. "What's your favourite flower?" He asked. Naia appeared to think for a bit, as though she had a vast file collection of flowers in her mind. Finally, after a long bit of silence she said "I... I do enjoy roses very much why do you ask?"
Chapter Seven: The Single Red Rose.
James spotted a red rose growing from the center of the stump which they were sitting on. He plucked it from it's woodsy mantle and handed it to her. "Rosewood. Naia Rosewood." He paused. She took the rose. "Nice to meet you, Naia Rosewood. My name is James William Caldwell, you may call me James." James bowed.
Chapter Eight: The Single White Rose.
James went home later that day and fell asleep. When he awoke the next morning he noticed a plant sitting on his desk that wasn't there before. It was a single white rose. James smiled. He knew this was Naia’s doing. A simple thank you perhaps? The rose was beautiful. James inhaled it's sweet fragrance. Thank you, Madam Rosewood, James thought.
Epilogue: The Friendship Carried On / Someday.
Ever since their first conversation, James visited her every day. Naia, welcoming him with a warm smile. She also spoke more freely around him, her apparent timidity was lost after their third or fourth conversation. One day, James was invited to see her house. When they arrived, James was surprised to see a mansion with a greenhouse. Naia had a vast library within, that James could utilize if ever there was a subject he needed strengthening in. He could live here, but he much preferred the solitude and silence of his own house. He liked inventing things, and though sharing his blueprints with Naia was as much fun as inventing them, he preferred to do his inventing alone. The silence influenced his thoughts. Naia generally was silent as well, but it was a sort of... warming silence. It was a friendly and loving silence. James preferred a more... cold silence to do his work. Naia and James had a strange bond, though they were both strange people. Also, instead of weakening their bond, the silence strengthened it. Rarely was there an occasion where something wasn't happening. There wasn't much noise in the house but on the rare occasion where James’ plans had failed, there was often some type of explosion associated with it. Naia would often disappear into the forest and would drag James along with her. She would bore him to death with all her knowledge about the plants they came across.
8 years later, she still bores him to death with her ongoing lectures about plants, but James bears it though, because he knows she’s bound to run out of forest someday.

» Natural Attributes: James has a heightened ability to notice small details that others would generally overlook. This, combined with an overly steady and precise hand, makes him the perfect inventor... or warrior.
» Racial Powers:
Anima Stone: External.
Anima Stone Type: Summoner.
Anima Stone power description: James' Anima Stone grants him the power to summon an "Energy Being" near him that is incredibly hard for James to control without aide (I plan to create a wristpad, that utilizes his external Anima Stone, for James to use). The summoning chant for this being is "Order: Cita Furor" (Command: Summon Insanity) Thus it is dubbed "Furor", Latin for insanity. The energy being has two forms. One form, that is incredibly strong and defensive, and the other, a form that is aerodynamic and fast. The strong form has numerous spikes and razor sharp claws. The aerodynamic form has no claws or spikes or weaponry of any kind. It's only weapon is it's speed. The being appears to be made from a sort of red crystal, much like James' Anima Stone. James, without any aide from anyone or anything, can only conjure up this being for an extremely short amount of time, as it requires an immense amount of mana to upkeep. James also has little control over it, as he can only practice with it for about the duration of 30 seconds (One post). It requires a tremendous amount of focus and concentration to both summon and utilize. In addition to this "Energy Being" James can alternatively summon a healer-type familiar. The summoning chant for this being is "Order: Cita Sanatore", (Command: Summon Healer) This being is dubbed "Sanatore", Latin for Healer. Sanatore is a lot easier for James to upkeep, as it has a very low mana drain, and it only uses mana when James wants it to heal him. James has had considerably more practice with this familiar, as he can keep it summoned (without healing at all) for 2 minutes (four posts). It takes little focus to control, and it's easier to use, but it cannot revive James. It can only heal cuts and gashes and other injuries, depending on James' mana. For instance, say James had his side slashed wide open by an opponent. This type of wound could not be healed quickly. Now, say James has a small wound created on his face. This would be easily healed. The bigger the wound the longer it takes to heal, and the more focus. James can utilize his mana in other ways as well. (Unfortunately, not without the aide of some serious tech.)
Soul Detection: James can feel auras given off by People, Hollows, Shinigami, and all other unseen forces. He can tell the difference usually. Of course, he can only sense them, not see them.
» Evolution Powers: To be obtained at a later date. (Or not? I dunno...)

» Roleplay Sample: Today was a slow day. James sat in his room, staring at the desk. He twirled his orb around in his hands. He could think of nothing to do. Nothing to invent. Nothing. He leaned back in his chair and sighed. Perhaps he could visit Naia? No, it was too late for that. James rolled the sphere around between his fingers. No ideas came. His orb was not doing it's job. He set it down on the table. He shut his eyes. They burned. He hadn't slept for quite some time, so his eyelids stung a bit when he shut them. Perhaps it was time for sleep? Perhaps the next day would be more productive than this? No matter, and no use worrying himself about it now. James rose from his chair. He slumped over to his bed, and fell into it. He truly was tired. Tired and exhausted. A knock-out combination. He yawned. Literally.
