Personality:

Spirit of Defiance
Motochika is the type of person to take hold of his own destiny. He isn't defiant in a sense that he won't listen to others, or will necessarily disobey orders. He views history like waves, they swallow everything up until it is all spat back out as flotsam, and then, it is gone. To him, if destiny dictates that he will fall, if he does not like the outcome destiny seems to have dictated, then he will fight destiny itself. To him, there is no other way.

Calm
Motochika is a calm soul. Motochika appears to be quite stoic in the heat of battle. Many times, he voices his feelings and opinions in a very straight and relaxed tone. Should anything happen to someone he is close to, he may scream out their name as it happens, but his voice retains its tone. Even after someone close to him dies, he remains widely unchanged in speech and reactions. He has emotions, they just aren't definable by his voice. Anger is not something he understands.

Caring
Despite his stoic attitude he does indeed care about people. If someone was hurt, or was in danger, he would seek to aid them. If someone died, he would indeed feel sadness, and seek to avenge them, or at the very least make it so they didn't die in vain. He places a lot of value in any friendships he forms, and will do what he has to to protect them. Though he is aware that friends can become enemies, and will fight them if necessary, though he does so with a heavy heart.

Realistic
Though Motochika can somewhat be described as a free-spirit, he is also realistic. In his defiance of destiny, he is aware that he may one day be swallowed up by the waves of history. He has accepted that fact. In all actions, he looks at things realistically. He understands death is a part of life. He also understands the very nature of conflict. Someone that was once your friend, may one day have to be put down by your own hand. Though he does not like such prospects, he is at terms with them.

Intelligent
In general, many people see Motochika as a very talented man. Among his various skills, intelligence is one of them. He can analyze a battle and determine how to best go about. Some people, however, think he has a lack of reason when he goes about defying destiny and going on uphill battles. In such situations, he is quite witty and he generally has a witty comment when he proves them wrong. Example (never happened nor will it, but it gives a good idea): He is leading a battle against a much larger force and one enemy claims he cannot see reason, before bringing in a large warship. Motochika would come up with some way to sink it, and when such an event happens, he will simply respond with "Iron is heavier than water, how's that for reason?"

Musically Attuned
Motochika has loved music all of his life, and can play both the Shamisen and Guitar like a master. He spends much of his time playing music, or at least listening to it. Even in the heat of battle, his melodies can be heard throughout, giving courage and morale to allies, or scaring enemies with the eerie melody of the afterlife. Ever since Motochika left his home while still alive, not one person has seen him without his Shamisen on him. In truth, the very essence of Motochika can be discerned from his music.

Confident
Motochika is a very confident person. He does not brag, but he has confidence in his own abilities and skills. This is shown how when challenged, he has many times refused, despite knowing he will win. When an opponent fights him anyway, he does not get in the least bit worried if his skill is equal or greater. He understands his powers and believes in his ability to use them.

Determined
Motochika is never the type to just give up. If he has a goal, he will seek to accomplish it in any way possible. No matter the odds, he never gives up. If he wishes to fight destiny, then he believes he must be 100% determined to do so. Any hesitation at all could be fatal in his eyes, so he just uses every ounce of his willpower whenever he fights. He doesn't know how to fight without determination.

History: Motochika Chōsokabe was born January 1st, 2100, in a port town on the Island of Shikoku. He always had something of a Rebellious spirit, even at birth. Still, he was never a bad person, he just wasn't one to be pushed around. When he was 9 he had developed an affinity for music, and began playing the Shamisen, the Guitar, etc. He proved himself to be highly intelligent in school, while being talented in musical endeavors.

The town, however was attacked by hollow and demons more often than not. As such, people died and no one could do anything about it. Perhaps this is what made Motochika's parents have the opinion that you cannot defy your destiny, if something is destined to happen then it will happen. Motochika and his Rebellious nature never could understand it, why someone would simply give in to destiny. This caused frequent arguments between him and his parents, they were opposites.

As such, one day Motochika had just said he had it, and left, at age 17. With him he carried nothing but some supplies, a Shamisen, and a sword for protection. He had quite a bit of power in his body, thus allowing him to deal with hollow attacks rather easily. At first, he simply wandered the town he was born in, but he eventually began to travel the entirety of Shikoku. Some legends began to arise, that in times of peril, the music of a Shamisen could be heard, and an mysterious man would come to the rescue. This legend arose due to Motochika's love for music, and his habit of helping others and fighting their destiny for them.

He rescued many people, and appeared to be able to travel Shikoku extremely. He had developed a knowledge of terrain, and he was swift. Yet one day, the rescues stopped. The sound of his Shamisen became silent. The people feared that the hero had met his doom, but none knew what had happened to him. One night, while Motochika sat playing his Shamisen, he was attacked. An eerie fog had rolled in and blurred his vision. Through the fog, the figure of some immense beast could be seen. Motochika fought bravely, despite his lack of knowledge of what the creature even was, but he was killed, at age 25.

For reasons unknown, his soul was not devoured. Perhaps something had scared off the hollow. Perhaps the hollow didn't think Motochika's soul looked tasty. Either way, his destiny was not yet over. Despite being nothing more than a spirit, and he continued on his legend for a time. In his form, he had to now avoid hollow for he stood little chance. Yet he often wandered into towns. In the dead of night, when criminals were at large, the melodies of his Shamisen could be heard. If someone was being attacked by lowlifes, if someone was being robbed, he would play his Shamisen to full effect. Though they could not see him, the criminals could easily hear the subtle melody. they commonly ran away immediately, such was the power of his legend.

Yet as time moved on, he soon realized. He could not stay a wandering spirit forever. The sheer power of his resolve had kept him from becoming a hollow for many years, and it would be many many years before he became one due to the ferocity of his will. Yet, he knew his time was limited and began to seek a way to prevent it.

One day, while preforming his usual routine of helping the innocent, he came across a man in a black robe. The man asked about who he was, and Motochika told him. The man asked how he died, and Motochika explained the events of his life, and everything he did even while dead. Impressed, the man explained he was a Shinigami and that he would pass Motochika on to the next life. He also explained to Motochika that with such talent as he had described, he should try to enter the Shino Academy and become a Shinigami. With those as his final words of advice, the man passed Motochika on to the next life.

Motochika's travels did not take him immediately to the Academy. For a long while, he wandered around Rukongai much as he did in Shikoku when alive. Rukongai was not a nice place, thus he began his deeds anew. When he found someone who needed help, someone without the strength to fight their destiny, he fought it for them. He was quite powerful, so he was able to defeat the brutes of Rukongai with ease.

Motochika's legend spread once again. As he had been known in Shikoku, so was he known in Rukongai. Many thugs and criminals came to fear him, others came to want to challenge him. Such challenges were frequent, and Motochika always declined. Yet, he always ended up defeating them, due to their insistence and attempt to jump him. Despite this, he rarely killed, only if absolutely necessary.

Many years went by, as his music and strength entered legends of Rukongai. However, in 2200, on his birthday, he decided it was time to move on, and made his way for Seireitei. He immediately entered the Academy and it was obvious he had talent.

He blew through the Academy Curriculum with flying colors, being quite skilled in Kidō among other things. He became a Shinigami and worked as one up until current day. He experienced numerous battles against hollow and who knows what else. His skill in battle and determination commonly sent morale of his comrades through the roof. Even when the odds were stacked against him, and death seemed at hand, he would simply strum his Shamisen and rebel against destiny, calling out, "The sounds of our rebellion will echo through the panels of history!" No one worries when he speaks of rebellion, because everyone knows by now that he is loyal to the Gotei, and simply rebelling against fate.

Inner World: Motochika's inner world is much like an open field, such as one where a person would go to play an instrument. The grass is short and there are occasional trees, including one with Cherry Blossoms. This area is rather large. However, far out on the edges, there is a small beach running all around the plain. Waves crash on the beaches and rock, almost as if it's trying to swallow the island whole. This represents how the waves of history attempt to swallow everything up. However, it cannot be seen or heard from the very center die to the scattered trees and distance. The center representing the defiance of history itself.

Sealed Zanpakutô Abilities:
Noise Reduction: Motochika's Zanpakutō has the power to cancel out unnecessary sound waves. Unwanted sounds that are over a certain volume are muffled down to a more tolerable volume. For example, if someone was to sneak up on him and scream extremely loud, at least half of the volume would be canceled out. The ability works on an unconscious level, and will not cancel out certain sounds (loud music for instance, though it will be brought down a bit as to prevent hearing damage). Though it works on sounds of most frequencies, it is unable to effectively cancel out Super Natural sounds. Should a sound be produced by a special ability (i.e. the sound itself is part of the ability, and not just an effect), it's effects would be determined by the tier distance. This would effectively weaken sound related ability's of weaker foes, but stronger foes remain largely unaffected.

Release: Defy your destiny, Shibō no Ekō

Shikai Description: In Shikai state his sword morphs into a Shamisen. The Shamisen is quite powerful, and able to withstand blows like any other Zanpakutō (the strings won't break unless it is enough to break the Zanpakutō). Though he can block hits with it, the weapon's nature of being a instrument limits his damaging capacity, forcing him to resort to its special ability's as pretty much his only means of attacking with his Zan. It is in the picture of Motochika (he is holding it)

Shikai Abilities:Shibō no Ekō's main ability is the ability to send out violent sound waves. Upon a strum of his Shamisen, Motochika can launch out sound that takes on energy like qualities. One manner in which he can use this is ti simply send out a wave of sound. Upon strumming the Shamisen, a thin wave of energy will be released, expanding as it goes. As it goes, its height and width will increase (imagine a Kidō blast that starts out small at its start and widens as it goes). If he was put a lot of energy into the attack, it could become as much as 10 feet tall and 30 feet wide, however such an effort would severely draining. He usually has it at 10 feet wide and 5 feet tall, which he can use a decent number of times without tiring. He can also just fire out an extremely thin blast of energy, which though inaccurate (if you see it coming you can jump or duck seeing as it is as thin as paper), can strike with effect (despite thinness it will not slice into them too badly, there may be a wound the shape of the strike, but it still has more of a slamming effect than a cutting effect).

A secondary method of attack is he can send out waves of sound in many directions around him. This will cause everything within a 5 foot radius to be struck by the energy. This can be used to defend against attackers, or even block some energy attacks if the sphere was stronger or equal to the attack. However, this ability is more taxing and cannot be used constantly, it requires a 3 post cool down before it can be used again.

His final method of attack is he can launch out large, pure orbs of sound. They can be up to 6 feet in diameter and can be launched forward quite fast and with decent range, up to 50 feet. However this is also a tiring move, as it is powerful, and he can only fire up to three before he needs to rest. 3 post cool down.

Note: The main ability looks like is has layered waves and isn't so solid you can't see through it, it is a light purple. The second and third abilities look bright blue, and are also semi-transparent. As of yet, Motochika has not yet gained enough mastery of his Shikai to carry over Noise Reduction once released.
