Obama had to worry about being re-elected and he would lose votes if he said he was for same sex marriage in his first term, in his second term he no longer needs to worry since he cannot be re-elected. He can now have his actual thoughts out in the open without worrying about losing voters since this is his last round. Most Presidents double back on things in their second term because they have the freedom to do so and usually it's for the best that they do.

Yeaaahh, so this is about two years late, but I just wanted to say that Gin was incorrect in his first post about heritage months. There is indeed one for Blacks, and it's one of the more well-known of the heritage months, but there's also one for Asians, Hispanics, Jews, and American-Indian. Although, it is indeed true that Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month, American-Indian Heritage Month, and Jewish American Heritage Month are far from the mainstream knowledge.
