Name: Kiyone Kotetsu
Gender: Female
Age: Unknown; at least over 450
Height: 154 cm (5'0½")

Appearance: Kiyone is a rather petite, young looking female Shinigami. She has short, dark blond hair in a slightly "boyish" style and blue-gray eyes. Unlike her elder sister, Isane, Kiyone is shorter, around average height, and has quite smaller breasts in comparison. She wears the standard Shinigami uniform, though underneath she appears to be wearing a rather nice collared shirt; the collar protruding over her top. This is followed by a pair of white gloves that extend a few centimeters over her wrists. Kiyone's overall appearance makes her appear to others as a "tomboy", though the white shirt and gloves give a slight feeling as if she cares about her appearance. Although her personality may suggest otherwise, Kiyone does have a "sense of style", and despite her "tomboy" appearance, when off duty, especially in the world of the living, can be seen wearing rather "cute" outfits.

P E R S O N A L I T Y

Personality: Being the younger sister of Isane, Kiyone, though almost an exact opposite of her, feels like she has a lot to live up to. Though open, excitable, and sometimes even brash; Kiyone does share Isane's sense of loyalty and duty. Although she does appear to be quite the "tomboy", helped by her personality, Kiyone does show a more "feminine" when it comes to matters of "style" or clothing. This can best be seen by her apparel while in the world of the living, and when she helped pick out a "cute" bathing suit for her sister. Of course, if ever confronted about this side, especially if by a male squad mate, Kiyone can become rather defensive, and will often get louder if they don't stop. Though she has a high level of respect for the Captains, especially her former Captain Ukitake, Kiyone seems to be very competitive for their attention/approval; especially with her former co-third seat Sentarō Kotsubaki. While this could be half explained by her admiration for certain Captains of the Gotei 13, it may also be because she is the younger sister, and seems to have an overall personality as if she wanted attention. This could be attributed to the fact that her sister quite literally seems to "overshadow" her; though that is more because, due to her height, Isane's shadow is cast over her while they stand side by side.

When it comes to fighting, Kiyone's personality doesn't really change all too much. Though she has a fierce fighting nature, she is also easily aggravated; a fact that can not only be exploited by her opponents, but also by her allies. She also seems to keep her blunt and open nature while fighting; sometimes either explaining her own powers/attacks to try and impress her Captain/higher ups (though only done after she uses said attack or power), or verbally recount an opponent’s attack that caught her off guard. Despite these slight flaws, Kiyone can still be considered a serious combatant; especially as she often tries to prove herself to her comrades and sister. When it really comes down to it, and the fight is serious, Kiyone can take on a calmer side to help her focus, but this usually involves her having to stop and concentrate herself. While she may not be the most competent fighter, Kiyone definitely shows the spirit, drive, and personal motivation required to excel. While not there yet, it is quite clear to her superiors that she has potential, and is still growing and honing her combat skills.

Of course, Kiyone isn't all work and fighting, and although she is very loyal, seems to enjoy taking time off. When not on active duty, Kiyone usually has quite a few hobbies; thought she is almost always with someone else. For the most part, Kiyone prefers to spend time with her sister Isane, her friend and rival Sentarō, or some of the other members of her squad. It's not as if she needs the company of others to validate herself, but she just feels more comfortable when hanging out with others. When with Isane, she usually prefers to engage in more "docile" activities; such as helping her go shopping for clothes. When with someone like Sentarō, however, Kiyone can often be found drinking sake with him and, as a result, getting drunk. Oddly enough, while drunk, the two of them seem to get along much better. Along with this, Kiyone doesn't seem to have too high of an alcohol tolerance. When it comes to her other squad members, Kiyone is a generally friendly person so long as you don't try to start a debate with her. She also seems to be good at dealing with newer squad members; an example being her reassuring Rukia that her assignment to the world of the living didn't mean she was getting transferred.

B A C K G R O U N D

History:

Shortly after Rukia Kuchiki joined the 13th Division, she served as an assistant to Kiyone. Sometime later, a drunken Kiyone and Sentarō eavesdropped on a conversation between her and Kaien Shiba. They applauded Kaien on his words before he asked if they were drunk again. Sentarō told Rukia that he is from Rukongai as well and people talked behind his back about him. Kaien then ordered them back to their posts. Sometime after Miyako Shiba's death, Sentarō and Kiyone became the 13th Division's 3rd Seat officers. When Rukia was informed that she was being sent on a mission to the Human World, Kiyone reassured her that she was not being transferred. She and Sentarō began to squabble until Ukitake appeared. She told the captain that he ought to be resting, but he insisted that he was fine. Kiyone and Sentarō then listened as he talked to Rukia about letting Byakuya know about her mission.

Plot:
-Soul Society Arc-

After Ichigo, Ganju and Hanatarō's attempt to rescue Rukia is foiled, Ukitake calls for Sentarō and Kiyone. The pair appear and Ukitake asks why they followed him there when he told them not to come as it was too dangerous. Sentarō comments that it was scary and says that because he respects Ukitake so much, he cannot help following him. Kiyone is annoyed by this, calling it a cheap shot and says that she respects Ukitake more. The pair argue until Ukitake tells Kiyone to contact the Fourth Division so that Ganju's injuries can be treated. As Sentarō carries the unconscious Rukia back inside the prison, he tells her that he is sorry and that he and Ukitake will get her out of prison. Kiyone hears this and complains, saying that she is more concerned about Rukia and that she and Ukitake will get her out. As the two squabble again, Sentarō tells her to contact the Fourth Division, but she insists that she was on her way there anyway.

Kiyone covers her ears as Sentarō very loudly reads Captain Retsu Unohana a message from Ukitake which asks for clemency in punishing Hanatarō. They listen as Unohana points out that because of his help, the Ryoka did more damage than they would have done alone.

On the morning of Rukia's execution, Sentarō notices the beginning of the release of the Sōkyoku. He states that this is bad and asks Kiyone if the captain is ready. She tells him not to yell for no reason, before yelling for Ukitake. She ignores Sentarō's criticism and informs the captain of the news. Ukitake emerges from behind a door, stating that it took him longer than anticipated to remove the seal from the Shihōin Shield. He then tells them that since the Central 46 ruled against stopping Rukia's execution, they have to destroy the Sōkyoku. The pair acknowledge his order. The three of them rush towards the Sōkyoku Hill and arrive as the Sōkyoku is preparing to make a second attempt at killing Rukia. They witness Ichigo Kurosaki destroy the Sōkyoku's scaffold.

In spite of Sentarō's warning not to, Kiyone tries to go to her injured sister's side. Sentarō' is knocked aside as Soi Fon moves to stop Kiyone. Soi Fon tells Kiyone that she should be ashamed of herself for betraying the Gotei 13 and threatens her. However, she is dragged away by Yoruichi, leaving Kiyone and Sentarō lying there. Unohana then ferries Kiyone and the other injured individuals inside Minazuki to the 4th Division to be treated. While Sentarō's and Kiyone are recovering, they both receive Isane Kotetsu's message elaborating on Aizen's betrayal.

-Arrancar Arc-

Sentarō, Kiyone and Orihime Inoue eavesdrop as Rukia requests that Captain Ukitake open the training grounds so that she and Orihime may train for the coming war. When Ukitake notices Orihime, Sentarō grabs her and presents her to the captain, claiming to have brought her to meet him. Kiyone angrily shouts that it was her who brought Orihime. Sentarō then overs Ukitake another cup of tea, but Kiyone stops him, stating that they agreed to do rock-paper-scissors to determine who would bring the tea. Sentarō replies that he who makes the first move wins. The pair fall silent as Orihime talks to Ukitake and Rukia.

-Fake Karakura Town Arc-

After Aizen is captured, Kiyone is seen eavesdropping alongside Ukitake and Sentarō on Yamamoto scolding Shunsui, Byakuya and Kenpachi for losing their respective captain haori.

Sealed Zanpakutô Apperance : Kiyone's Zanpakutō takes the form of a standard katana with a circular guard and a black hilt. The one difference is that it is slightly smaller, though not noticeably, to work with her height.

Release Phrase: "Overwhelm, Chikara Gekido!"

Shikai Description:

In its Shikai, Kiyone's Zanpakutō takes the form of a medium sized scimitar with a red hilt and a curved guard. Although the blade itself is very strong, her Shikai does seem to have some scratches and "battle scars" that adorn its blade.Because of the increased curve and weight near the tip of the blade, Kiyone's Shikai allows for her to swing her blade with even more force than, say, an average katana. The biggest change, of course, to Kiyone's Zanpakutō in Shikai is the unique power it gains; the ability to amplify and project force, or forces. While this may sound a little confusing, it is actually quite simple. For example, with this power, through one of her techniques, Kiyone will slash her Zanpakutō to have its powers amplify the cutting force, then project it into the form of a large "blade of force" (basically looks just like a blade made of energy) that is fired at the opponent. While this is not the only way Kiyone can use this power, it is probably the best example. Because these powers are a "force" and not "energy", they can bypass energy absorbing and negating effects.

Shikai Abilities:
切断 Setsudan (lit. Cutting): Chikara Gekido's first ability, described briefly above, Setsudan is named after the force that it effects. To use this ability, all Kiyone must do is say its name and then slash her Zanpakutō. As she is slashing, her Shikai's powers take effect to amplify and project the force into a large blade of cutting/slashing force directly in front of her Zanpakutō. By the time Kiyone finishes her slash, the "blade of force" is fired off at the opponent. The "blade of force" takes on the type of slash that Kiyone used for the ability, like diagonal or horizontal.

鈍力 Don-ryoku (lit. Blunt Force): Chikara Gekido's second ability; just like the first, Don-ryoku is named after the type of force it effects. To use this ability, Kiyone must say its name before punching forward with her Zanpakutō; using the guard as if it were knuckles. As she pulls back her fist and the Zanpakutō to punch, her Shikai's powers take effect to amplify and project the force into a medium sized "force bullet" directly in front of her Zanpakutō's guard. By punching her Zanpakutō forward, Kiyone then fires off the "force bullet" at her opponent. Though it has a medium range, this ability has two main purposes. The first is if the opponent is up close, where they will be hit by the "force bullet" at its greatest potential. The second it to use it as a precise, medium range projectile to hit opponents that are further away; as well as allowing her greater control of the damage she might cause. Because of its nature, Kiyone can fire off multiple "force bullets", but to fire another one, she ust punch again; repeating the process.

盾 Tate (lit. Shield): Chikara Gekido's third ability, Tate is slightly different from Kiyone's other abilities in the way it works. To use this ability, Kiyone must hold her Zanpakutō in front of herself and then say the name of the ability. By doing this, Kiyone's powers will amplify the force Kiyone is using to guard, and then project it in the form of a medium sized shield directly in front of her. Because her powers amplify the force Kiyone is already using to block, this ability is able to block some attacks that are too strong for her to block on her own. That being said, it does still have its limits, and if hit by too powerful of an attack, the attack will break through. Luckily, though, if an attack does break through, the strength it used to get past Kiyone's shield will be subtracted from the attacks total power; meaning the damage she takes is lessened. This ability can only be used once per post.

強化 Kyōka (lit. Fortify/Strengthening): Chikara Gekido's fourth ability, unlike all other three, Kyōka is different from the other three abilities in that it is a continuous and only uses the first part of her powers; the amplification of force. To use this ability, all Kiyone has to do is say it's name. After activation, a slight aura can be seen around Kiyone's Zanpakutō, signifying that the ability is in effect. While this ability is active, the force of every one of Kiyone's slashes is amplified to much higher levels. Because of this, all of her attacks while using this ability are much stronger; and it is perfect to use against opponent's with high defense or armor to break through them. The downside to this ability, however, is because the force of her attacks is increased so much, so is the amount of stress placed upon her Zanpakutō. Because of this, her Zanpakutō will become slightly less durable after each successful attack, until the point where her Zanpakutō's blade literally breaks. When this happens, Kiyone is able to restore the form of her Zanpakutō in its Shikai, but it takes her one full post to do so. While her Zanpakutō is broken, she can still use all of her other techniques, but because of the damage, they are only 60% as effective. After restoring her Zanpakutō, Kiyone must wait yet another post until she can actually use the technique again. This being said, Kiyone can also choose to turn off the ability before her Zanpakutō breaks if she wants to. To do this, all she needs to do is say the name of the technique again. Because her Zanpakutō did take damage but did not break, her abilities will be at 90% power for one post after she deactivates the ability. After that one post, Kiyone will have restored her Zanpakutō to its full strength.

Bankai:Although her Bankai has not yet been revealed, it is highly speculated that she has either attained it already or is quite close to attaining it. Because she has had 400 years to train for it, and is a veteran of Squad 13, it will be up to the staff if she has Bankai yet.

R P S A M P L E

Roleplay Sample: It was just another normal day within the Seireitei; same old weather, same old structure, same old Seireitei. As usual, the whole Soul Society was experiencing fair and mild weather; a warm and bearable temperature with few clouds in the sky. It was odd how the Soul Society always seemed to have perfect weather, though it did rain on occasion. To be honest though, once you had lived there for a while, one really gave little thought to the seemingly constant weather. Over the 400 years since the war with Aizen, while the Soul Society as a whole had under gone some changes, the Seireitei remained almost the same. It was kinda hard for some to ever imagine the Soul Society ever changing, especially since 400 years ago it still looked like feudal Japan, but even those who followed tradition had to keep up with the times. That being said, extreme care had been taken to keep the aesthetics of the Seireitei unchanged. Of course, just like the weather, not many people ever really paid much attention to the changes that had taken place over the past 400 years, simply because they had become the "norm".

For one individual, however, thoughts of the past seemed to be all that filled their mind. The individual, a female Shinigami, stood at 154 cm (5'0½"), had short blond hair, and was walking at a slower pace. Although the appearance of being deep in thought was not one of this female's normal facial expressions, she was still easily recognizable as Kiyone Kotetsu; younger sister of Isane Kotetsu. Though usually more energetic and open, today, Kiyone's thoughts had shifted to the past; mainly to the time after Ukitake had retired as Captain. To Kiyone, though she knew full well about his illness, was a large shock. Of course, this had hit Kiyone rather hard because, although she wouldn't admit that it was anything more than loyalty to her Captain, she was rather infatuated with Ukitake. Of course, as she thought this, a small blush crossed her face, mainly because, well, she had never actually stopped to think about her infatuation with her former Captain. Of course, to get rid of said blush, Kiyone chose a rather...odd method. "O-of course, everyone likes Ukitake-Taichou, but none more than me" she said out loud in her confident tone, the same kind of look crossing her face. As one might have guessed, there was no one there to actually hear her words, even though she said them as if to someone else.

Ignoring her rather "goofy" actions, Kiyone continued walking; now more back to her usual self as a large smile crossed her face. Both the smile and her previous thoughts could easily be explained by the destination she was headed for, and why she was headed there. Earlier that day, Kiyone had received a message from Ukitake himself; inviting her over to his place for tea. This, of course, was not unusual for the former Captain it seemed. He had always been a nice man, and seeing as it had been quite a while since he had seen his former 3rd seated officer, it was probably just to socialize and catch up on things. Of course, Kiyone would have accepted any order or invitation from her former Captain, and she had almost stopped reading the message after seeing the word "invite". Now that she was almost there, though, Kiyone's eagerness was soaring through the roof. As she finally reached Ukitake's house, Kiyone quickly made sure to straighten out her Shinigami uniform, wanting to look her best for her former Captain. With that done, she prepared herself, before knocking on the door. "Kiyone Kotetsu here, as per your request Ukitake-Taichou" she announced rather loudly in a cheerful yet professional tone. As she did so, Kiyone stood up straight, as if she were a soldier in the army, and awaited her former Captain's response.
