The Jietei

In the wake of the Gotei United's dissolution, the Jieitei was founded to act as a spiritual successor to it and the original Gotei Thirteen. Its founder, Sajin Komamura, sought to build something lasting that could exist without being beholden to every demand of Central 46, and after securing funding began the initial recruitment drive that brought others into the fold. As its name suggests, the Jieitei differs from the Gotei Thirteen as a self-defense force for all of Soul Society with emphasis on representing all of its peoples.

Under Komamura, there is a renewed emphasis on honor and loyalty. All members of the Jieitei are expected to put the tenants of the organization above their own interests and even lives. Unlike the Gotei Thirteen however, they are not expected to follow without question; to Sajin, loyalty is about devotion to a common cause, not blindly following amoral or immoral orders. As such, the Jieitei is somewhat paradoxical in its encouragement of following orders and having the courage to stand up and speak out against unlawful and immoral commands.

Shinigami, Vizards, and non-Shinigami pluses are all eligible to apply.

The Jieitei is made up of several separate Divisions, each with its own specialization or focused objectives. It is led by the Shō, or Commander, at the top of the hierarchy, which each Division consisting of a Captain, their second-in-command Lieutenant, three Senior Officers and three Junior Officers, and servicemen.

Shō - The top ranked officer of the Jieitei. Leads their own Division which does not have any special responsibilities, though every member is expected to be a shining example for other Shinigami. Though the Shō takes a more hands-on approach during wartime and exceptional situations, they do not micromanage.

1. Qualifications: Exemplary Shinigami with leadership qualities and the power necessary to defend the Jieitei against extreme threats. The first Shō, Sajin Komamura, set up a replacement system should anything happen to him where all Captains and Lieutenants will vote for his successor(s) among qualified candidates.

Captain - The top ranked field officers of the Jieitei. Each leads their own Division, which they have been given significant independence to lead as they see fit. It is up to the Captain to determine their Division's objectives and priorities, as well as to set a culture of success and organize sub-Divisions and committees. Captains have minimal authority over other Divisions, with the exception being when a Captain is unavailable to lead their Division and another is assigned to temporarily oversee it, or in emergencies.

1. Qualifications: Leadership qualities and individual strength are the two main qualifications for Captaincy. Each Captain is expected to be a model Shinigami, one their subordinates can look up to and confidently follow in times of peace and war. Simply being powerful is not enough to be promoted to this level. In the case of an empty Captain position, the Division in question will vote on and submit a candidate to the Shō, who will promote based upon the recommendations of the other Captains.

Lieutenant - A Captain's right hand, they are expected to be able to both work for and in tandem with their commanding officer. They often oversee the day-to-day of their Division with oversight from their Captain, and are the likeliest to be deployed in times of war as front line and advance commanders. Lieutenants are always chosen by their corresponding Captain.

Officers - Senior Officers and Junior Officers are a step below Lieutenants and answer to them directly. Senior Officers are the longest serving and most capable members of their Divisions (besides their superiors), and are tasked with leading their own units of Shinigami while deployed, and lead training regiments while not. Junior Officers are responsible for much of the paperwork and clerical work in their squads.



Financial Backing - Currently the Jieitei has financial support for general operations from the Koizumi family, and aid for Rukongai-specific operations from the Shiba family. This aid is without debt, allowing the Jieitei to operate without being beholden to these Noble families' interests.

Infrastructure - Initially, the Jieitei took residence in the abandoned old Sixth Division's sprawling barracks. They possess a Rukongai outpost Sajin used to operate out of in a middling District. They also possess many Denreishinki which were gathered from storage and recruits.

Intelligence - The Jieitei possesses all intelligence and data of the Gotei United's Sixth Division, including information on almost all major figures in the Soul Society, many suspected criminals, and previously-ongoing investigations. Their connection to the Koizumi family also provides access to information Lady Shishiyuki is willing to share with the Jieitei's leadership.

Uniforms - The standard rank and file Jieitei uniform consists of a typical Shinigami Shihakushō with the organization's white insignia on the left breast. Officers wear the same uniform except the insignia is beige instead of white for junior officers, and for senior officers there is an additional horizontal line beneath it. Lieutenants wear arm badges signifying their rank and Division, and Captains wear beige haoris similar to what Gotei Captains wore.
