Personality: First and foremost, Thanatos loves conflict, conflict, CONFLICT! He loves drama, action, battle, and war! However, he doesn't seem to care what kind of conflict it is. He doesn't have to sate his desire for conflict through an intense and bloody conflict. It doesn't have to be a bloody battle, hell it doesn't even have to be a battle. The conflict can be entirely moral, such as placing a dilemma before some so-called, "hero" such as save the person you love most, or save the city of ten thousand people. Even better would be save your lover, or save your sibling or parent. He absolutely loves watching the emotional conflict rip the hero apart!

In fact, his idea of conflict is rather...loose. If an opponent doesn't think they can beat him in a fight there is an easy solution. Simply challenge him to something else, mayhap a contest of riddles? Perhaps a game of chess? Maybe even a competitive dicing game, or a hand of poker? Thanatos is not picky when it comes to conflict, as long as there is a clear winner and loser in the end he's more than willing to play.

This love tends to lead himself into some bad situations. What's the point of conflict if there's no risk to yourself? When challenged to a game, whether strategy, chance, or actual combat, he'll ask for the stakes. Is it a simple battle of life and death? The winner gets to kill the other, or the winner is the first to kill the other? Perhaps, the loser has to perform some service for the winner, whether it be help with a fight or swear a life-long oath of servitude? The bigger the risk the better the conflict, and the more Thanatos loves it.

Most would think that Thanatos would hate it when he loses, but in fact that just makes it so much better! When he loses then he gets to experience mental conflict firsthand! Perhaps the task he is forced to take on is to help slay a fellow demon? WONDERFUL!! He now deals with the conflict of being forced to complete his oath and his great desire to avoid betraying his fellow demons. At the time, he may not see it that way, but afterwards when all is said and done, he'll take some time alone and slowly savor each memory of that delicious mental conflict.

Other than conflict Thanatos has little in the way of likes, but that's not very surprising. Considering the broad scope of activities and events that he includes in his description of conflict, there is very little that he doesn't like. In fact it would be virtually impossible to come up with a single thing he hates. He doesn't even hate peace as when peace is present its entirely his choice what conflict to bring forth and shock the masses.

Finally, there is one last thing that an opponent would do well to keep in mind when dealing with the demon. He is cunning, incredibly so with an excellent knack for thinking outside the box. He can go to great lengths and show extraordinary patience to claim even the smallest of goals, until eventually all those small events cause a great and horrible conflict.

History

Thanatos is one hundred percent, home grown demon. Neither of his parents weren't very special, they were just two demons. His father, Baoran, was Knight in the 4th circle, and his mother, Ransarath, was a Knight in the 5th. While it's not exactly common for demons from those two circles to...mingle, it does happen, and in this case it did. What started as a simple friendship grew into something more, and before you know it Ransarath gave birth to Thanatos.

In fact his parents are what allowed the beginning of his fascination with conflict to be traced all the way back to his first few years of existence. Naturally the two were quite different and as a result they butted heads quite often. One thing in particular really got their blood boiling, and that was what to do with their son. Ransarath wanted to raise him to be a mighty warrior of the 5th circle, while Baoran wanted Thanatos to follow in his footsteps as a knight of the 4th circle. Ransarath said she'd be damned if she would let her son spend his life with clerical duties.

Finally, Ransarath could take it no longer; she'd had it with her lover's foolishness and challenged him to a fight to the death. Having had enough of his wife's idiotic barbarianism, he accepted the challenge, deciding to put an end to this once and for all. In the end it was a rather foolish move on Baoran's part, as the 5th circle was well known for having powerful, bloodthirsty members. So, naturally the mother won, slaying Baoran where he stood and raising her son as she saw fit.

Thus began Thanatos' training, under his mother's ruthless and cruel tutelage. She worked him hard, until his body collapsed from the strain, and then she picked him back up and worked him again! She cared not if he died, if he did pass on it was because of his own weakness, she would not abide a son who was weak. Fear was just one more unnecessary item, why should one fear a fight? Fighting was what they were born to do! What he was born to do! No one should fear battle, for even if you die then you died battling! There could be no more glorious an end!

Decades passed, and Thanatos' skill grew, his mother somehow found the ability to push him harder and still harder, unlocking his talent and pushing him to new depths of power. Finally a day came when he grew even stronger than his mother, defeating her in combat. While some might figure that this would be the child's chance to avenge their father, Thanatos had no real desire to exact vengeance for a dead man who would have done the exact same thing his mother was doing. So why kill her? She'd simply been doing what she thought best, and besides which the training had helped Thanatos discover a wonderful thing...conflict.

During that training he'd also been given a rudimentary education and lessons in tactics and strategy, the different forms of combat. This allowed him to discover something fascinating, conflict was the most amazing thing in this world. Of course, his mother was slightly less than pleased that he was interested in more than just violence and combat, but at the very least he was interested in it, which was something. However, even she couldn't have predicted what he'd do next.

Thanatos was hardly satisfied with the way things were going, Sinfall was a great and grand organization, and Touketsu was a grand and inspirational leader...but he wanted something more. He wanted a grand and great conflict the likes of which would never be forgotten! He desired to see the world panic in the threat of a conflagration that would grind all into dust, and so he set about to do just that.

His methods were incredibly slow, taking millennia to craft and perfect his wondrous plan. The most necessary thing was finding some way to bind humans to his service, in a way that could not possibly be broken without help from other demons, if with that. The method took him four full centuries of work to perfect; it was the spell, Binding Bargain. Something unique to him and a work of immense and incredible power. However, while it made it so that anyone who made a bargain with him must keep their end, it similarly binded Thanatos. Should he make a bargain he would be forced by the spell to keep up his end of the deal. He wouldn't even get a choice.

So, Thanatos began using this spell to gather followers, giving people fame, wealth, power, prosperity, all in exchange for something else. Sometimes it was their soul, other times their firstborn son, Thanatos spawned numerous legends of creatures devouring the souls of men, and numerous legends of clever humans outwitting "the devil." However, one out of every five humans would make this deal, that at some time they or one of their descendants must serve Thanatos in any way he saw fit for the span of 400 days, Thanatos could claim this service at any time, but once it had been served the bloodline would be free from his influence. These were the ones who would ensure the Grand Conflict.

Truly this was a lengthy undertaking, for at times Thanatos would find that one of his threads had snapped, the original bargainer's bloodline having died out. So he would find himself having to relay threads that had snapped, remaking a deal with someone else in that area. However, finally, after thousands of years, Thanatos' plans came to fruition. He called upon all those who owed him a debt, cashing in the 400 days of service for thousands of humans across the planet, many of whom had no idea what was going on, only that they couldn't disobey the strange figure that appeared before them.

Twenty days were spent, setting everything up, after which he made an announcement to Soul Society. The message went a little something like this...

"Greetings, mongrel pups of the Soul King! I am Thanatos, Demonic Master of Conflict! You may be wondering exactly why I have decided to address you, the reason is simple. I have arranged a massive event with thousands of my human companions, in one year this work will come to fruition and the human world will be destroyed, the boundaries between the human world, Hueco Mundo, and perhaps even hell itself shattered! However, I am not without mercy, and if any of you dare you can try to defeat me! Should an opponent prove themselves capable of besting me, my followers will stop their plans and immediately kill themselves. However, the opponent and I must agree on the contest, and seal the stakes and rules with the Binding Bargain. If I am slain, sealed, or beaten without the Binding Bargain guarding the rules, then my cohorts will immediately commence with the destruction of humanity! So, come then shinigami! Come oh Gods of Death, test your might! Test your wits! Test your skill! I care not which it is, just come on down!"

In a less wordy address, the portion of humanity that was spiritually aware was also informed, and given Thanatos' location, should one of them wish to challenge him. So began the Grand Conflict that Thanatos had so long been preparing for, and what a conflict it was. Humanity was torn apart in the struggle, it was chaos as the spiritually aware sometimes turned to worship, and others turned to killing those who seemed suspicious. The Gotei 13 were forced to take his threat very seriously, and it was even enough to get the Iramasha involved.

Back in the Demon World they looked at him with a mixture of awe and madness. They thought him insane, there was no way he would succeed, not with both the Gotei 13 and Iramasha coming for him. True, for now his methods kept him safe, but how long until he was bested in a game? How long before they discovered enough of his cohorts to launch a worldwide operation and take him and them out at the same time, neutralizing the threat without worry of the Binding Bargain?

Thanatos' answer was very, very simple. "I know." I know, that's all he said, he knew full well that he would not win, and he didn't care. To him the conflict was not about winning or losing, it was conflict for the sake of conflict. He knew full well that although his plans were agonizingly well made, and that his cunning and roundabout methods had ensured that it would be incredibly difficult to trace his followers, that despite all that, he would still lose. He didn't care that he would lose for the simple reason that the time between this defeat would be the place of a great conflict...and he was right.

Individuals came from all over to challenge him, they challenged him to games of strength and wit, they played games of dice or cards, and he always won, crushing his opponents and claiming their lives. For the stakes were almost always, "the loser shall die." Even the Iramasha challenged him, failing to do so for they had to pick a game he would agree to and he was not stupid enough to accept a straight-up fight. However, in the end it wasn't an Iramasha or a Shinigami that defeated him. They hadn't discovered even a fifth of his followers when he was finally beaten. The creature that beat him, was a quincy. To be more specific two quincy, both deeply in love, and resolute in their desire to protect humanity.

The woman was called Serena, the man Pierre. One day, four months into the year long deadline on humanity's existence, Serena challenged Thanatos to a game. The contest was simple, whoever could reach the other side of the Atlantic Ocean first was the winner. However, neither of them could use their spiritual powers, they must take the challenge as if they were normal humans. Thanatos was intrigued, and accepted the challenge. They shook hands and the Binding Bargain took effect. Thanatos set out, booking passage on a ship across the ocean.

Serena did him one better, and when he reached the other side, she was already waiting for him, along with Pierre. Thanatos was dumbfounded but it soon struck him, the girl had said that they couldn't use their powers, never that they couldn't use someone else's. She had outwitted and crushed him in a way he hadn't expected. However, the result was not his death, rather she knew exactly how to make him suffer. She had as the stakes his sealing for all eternity and the Earth. If she won his plans would stop and be forgotten, and he would have all his powers sealed forever. However, Touketsu had other plans for his energetic servant.

After his loss Thanatos had merely collapsed upon the beach, letting his body begin to waste away. It was in this state that the Demon King appeared before Thanatos. It started simply enough, Touketsu made inquiries as to Thanatos' thoughts regarding his defeat. The answer was simple enough...HE'D HAD A BLAST!! He couldn't have come up with a better ending for his conflict, sure combat would be a better visual spectacle, but any muscle-bound fool can swing a sword! It takes true intelligence to outwit a powerful opponent! Then Thanatos said something a bit...unexpected. "If you've come to offer to release me from my Bargain save your breath. Even if you can break the Binding Bargain I would refuse." His reasoning was simple, a conflict relied on many things, morals, power, virtually anything and everything contributed to a conflict. However, there was one thing in particular that was the absolute necessity for conflict, consequences. The reason a hero felt conflict when deciding whether to save a million strangers or the love of his life was the consequences that would arise from his choice. If he saved his love all those people would die, but if he saved the people his love would be lost to him forever!

The reason his little plan had caused such an uproar was that people feared the consequences. They worried what would happen if they challenged him, they worried what would happen if they didn't. The conflict in a war was that if they lost they could die, or there very way of life could be erased from the face of the Earth and lost to the sands of time. Take away the consequences and a conflict lost all meaning, so for that reason Thanatos refused to let Touketsu break the bargain.

However, Touketsu had anticipated something like this, and presented the demon with an offer just to tantalizing to refuse. Instead of breaking the bargain he would only partially unseal Thanatos, allowing him nothing more than the ability of the Binding Bargain, he would still be able to perform that and only that. Furthermore, if he could convince a descendant of the two who defeated him to take on his seal, Thanatos would be freed. However, noone else would be able to take on his seal. The catch was simple, if Thanatos was able to get his seal removed, then he must swear eternal loyalty to Touketsu, meaning no more crazy stunts like the one that had so recently led to his sealing, at least not without Touketsu's permission. Thanatos considered this, and finally agreed, the possibility of more conflict for him to enjoy was just to great to resist. So they struck a bargain, and his existence continued.

He spent the first century of what would become a 1500-year imprisonment thinking. Well, that and making deals with people just for the fun of the conflict. However, he didn't have any real plan, and that's what he was thinking about. If he wanted to get this seal removed he'd need to be clever, more importantly he'd have to wait until the memory of him had faded. He certainly couldn't do anything now, while the two quincy that had defeated him were still alive. Eventually though he came up with a plan, one that would take 1500 years to bring to fruition.

Aside from the odd bargain or so he began making bargains where people were required to do only one thing. Under the promise that he would not do anything to hasten their death, he required them to go with his messenger and no one else after their death. His "messenger" was a hollow. A hollow who he had also made a bargain with, he would give this hollow great power by feeding him souls, in exchange the hollow would do one task for Thanatos to be named at his leisure. Every third individual was offered this bargain, some accepted, some didn't, and so the plan advanced.

Naturally there was more than this going on behind the scenes. For one thing the Iramasha weren't happy that Thanatos was merely sealed and not dead. However, they couldn't find him for some odd reason. When they tried they just couldn't, it was as if some force was keeping the demon invisible. As for the demons, well they forgot about him after awhile. Most with comments like, "The idiot should have destroyed the Earth while he had a chance instead of playing some game." Or, "Damn, there goes a hell of a demon." Most didn't mourn that long and soon it was business as usual, if business had even stopped at all.

Among humans Thanatos was once again the source for legends, only this time it was legends of people selling their souls to the Devil, or managing to outwit the devil. The stories were boundless and many split-off, not all of them were derived from his little escapades, but quite a few were. After a millennia and a half he figured his hollow comrade was strong enough, and the memory of the Thanatos Event had dulled enough, to enact his grand plan.

Thanatos had kept a careful record of the bloodline of Pierre and Serena, and knew exactly who could take on his seal. His plan was simple, have the hollow destroy everything dear to the quincy and then offer to destroy the hollow for the quincy. Naturally his target was the weakest of those with the ability to free him from this torment.

The hollow did splendidly, the souls it had feasted upon during these 1500 years giving it the strength to crush the quincy's family and friends, and make it quite clear that the quincy had no possibility of defeating it. So who should appear to the bereaved young man but dear Thanatos, his friend in the dark. He told the quincy a stunning tale of lies, the result of which was the quincy agreeing to take on Thanatos' seal. The bargain was made, and Thanatos was free!

He was a bit sorry though, for the deal he had made required him to destroy the hollow. He did apologize, but a deal is a deal is a deal.

Now, it's February 17, 2411, two days since he convinced the quincy to remove his seal. Its finally time for him to go back home to hell, it'll be the opportunity to catch up with things, see if his mother's still alive, complete his bargain with Touketsu! He has only the vaguest bits and pieces on the affairs of the spiritual world, and when he gets back to Hell he's going to have a big surprise regarding Touketsu.

Natural Abilities: Akuma Kyodo, Jigoku Sokudo, Shifting Forms, Kage Chokyo-shi, Boru Shi.

Unique Abilities:

Binding Bargain- The Binding Bargain takes advantage of the immense power of the Za Koa, something so strong that even the strongest of warriors cannot match it. Simply put the Binding Bargain is just that, a deal, an agreement, a bargain. The basic form is that of buying and selling. One person offers to give someone something (usually the initiator of Binding Bargain) in exchange for something else. It could be anything from wealth to power, wine to women. Virtually anything can be traded with the Binding Bargain.

Some might think that this Binding Bargain is a wish-fulfiller, granting whatever the user wants without consequence and with great ease, but that is incorrect. For one thing both individuals must agree to the bargain, it cannot be formed with an unwilling party. For another thing the Bargain itself is almost...sentient, it will refuse to make an unequal bargain. Meaning that both parties must consider the exchange of equal value. One could not trade incredible power and wealth for say...a shiny pebble. Because they would know, and their fellow bargainer might know that it was not an equal deal, so the Bargain would refuse to work.

The second use is that of games, the two opponents agree to a certain game, say a footrace, and they use the Binding Bargain. This ensures that they cannot do anything that would violate the rules; they are physically incapable of cheating. Thanatos uses this ability to great effect, however it is quite obvious that should he lose he cannot escape the consequences either.

Shishi Modo Appearance: Thanatos Remu-stats

Shishi Modo Abilities:

Thanatos gains one ability when in Shishi Mode, Blood Crystal Blades. (see shifter appearance). These blades have a multitude of strange abilities. However, the best part is how many Thanatos can create, he can make up to ten at a time. However, he cannot make any more than that, although if he loses one of the swords he can create another one. However, he cannot create an infinite amount of swords, merely thirty in total and only ten at a time.

Now, the properties of these Blood Crystal Blades, is what them such a strange power. The BCB do not actually cut flesh, they don’t cut objects or anything, they merely pass through anything physical, even the spiritual version of physical. However, any living thing, such as a shinigami, that gets slashed by one of the blades will still experience as much resistance as if getting cut with a normal blade. Furthermore they feel all the pain as well.

So what do the blades do? Two things, first they drain and second they explode. When a BCB is left inside a person from stabbing or slashing it will start draining their reiatsu. However, this drained power does not go to Thanatos or to anyone, it is merely lost to the atmosphere. This is what makes Despair so dangerous, for even if an opponent starts off stronger then Thanatos, a few minutes impaled by a Blood Crystal Blade could easily change that.

The second thing these swords do is explode, by snapping his fingers he can cause all currently formed blades to shatter, scything through anything nearby, doing the exact same thing as intact BCB. Although this may not seem like much, a blade that drains your reiatsu suddenly shattering and sending fragments scything throughout your body can take a hefty toll.

The obvious weakness of the BCB, is that it doesn’t actually do any damage, there is no need to defend as long as the opponent make sure that a blade doesn’t get stuck inside them. Additionally, the blades are incorporeal, meaning that while an BCB can get past any defense, and it’s very difficult to pull it out, it also means that Thanatos cannot block any attacks with it. If he’s using Despair and nothing else, it will take a serious toll on his defense.

Satsugai Tsuru: Thanatos has crafted two weapons using his Shishi Modo, he calls the pair Discord, and the individuals are Thunder and Shatter.

Discord- Thanatos Katana%20kenshin%2006

As one figures out rather quickly Discord is actually two, each a shining and beautiful example of a katana. Each are the exact same length, that length being four feet, with a full foot to the hilt of each. The swords are both kept in sheaths on Thanatos’ right side. The two swords are called: Thunder and Shatter. Discord’s power is that of vibration, it uses vibration in two unique ways. Each blade possessing only one of these powers with no changing.

Thunder possesses the power of enhanced impact by means of rapid vibration of the molecules in the air around it. Simply put, Thunder can unleash incredible impact through sound, as that’s what sound is, vibrations carried along the molecules. The very interesting thing about Thunder is that although this increased impact is very, very powerful it dissipates quite quickly through air. The impact can only reach an object three feet away from the blade after which they won’t feel a thing. In water this effect is reduced marginally, and through solids its virtually undetectable.

Sound travels better through liquids then through gases, and better through solids then liquids. The reason is that the vibration is kept more closely compacted together and thus preserved for a longer distance. Thus, if Thanatos strikes a solid with Thunder, the normal telltale boom will actually be unheard until it reaches the opposite side of the object where it then comes out in all its loud glory. The distance for the impact to be stopped through a solid is 25 feet. The obvious weakness of Thunder is sound, incredibly loud noises disrupt the molecular vibrations causing the sound to fall short.

Thunder can only be used twice per post.

Shatter is the opposite of Thunder, while Thunder focuses on the vibrations of physical particles to create sound, Shatter focuses on the vibration of spiritual particles to break up spiritual attacks. When Shatter comes into contact with a cero, hadou, bakudou, or any similar spiritually based attack it sends a vibration that disrupts the spiritual particles forming the attack, causing it to break up and dissipate. The obvious thing is that Shatter has no offensive abilities, this strange dissipation can only be used in defense. As for stopping Shatter…well the stronger the attack the more dense the spiritual particles, meaning the harder it is to dissipate, meaning its harder for Thanatos to cut through…meaning he may not be able to dissipate it.

Shatter can only be used once per post.

These two weapons combine into a very powerful defense, however they both share the same weakness, a lack of ranged abilities. Thunder can only reach twenty-five feet through a solid object. Shatter can only dissipate a spiritual attack when it reaches Thanatos. If a person can maintain their distance and manage to keep up enough attacks to overwhelm Thanatos’ two sword defense (Thunder to parry the physical, Shatter to destroy the spiritual) then they will easily gain the advantage.

(I wasn’t sure if we were supposed to ask or not, so I figured better safe than sorry. So, I’m going to ask here, can I have Muko Jotai? Note: I will not put Muko Jotai in unless I get permission)

Comments/Notes: Your BG ablity sounds too God Mode to me, its basically making a wish and come true, from how I read it. You can basically get anything your character wanted from this, making it sort of open to being abused. You didn't really cover if there was a limit to how many there could be, etc. Same with other ablities, you didnt really tell us cooldowns, just their limits.
Tier: 2-3+ once changes are made.
