THE SHINIGAMI APPLICATION
I. Basic Information
» Name: Akira Yumeji
» Alias: The Fatebound; Dreamwalker
» Age: 22 (Apparent Age); 111 (Actual Age)
» Gender: Male
» Association: Seireitei, Soul Society; Yumeji Family
» Appearance Written: Akira has refined, aristocratic features, with a, typically, composed expression that conveys his high sense of purpose and an oftentimes quiet, yet still cocky intelligence. His hair is short, one half being a pitch, obsidian black that remains sleek and carefully combed, the other contrasts both in tone and style; a white as pure as alabaster that is slightly more matted or texturized depending on how you look at it. Two piercing amber eyes dot his face, almost golden in their hue and giving them an almost celestial quality, as if he’s observing the world from another plane. The tone of his skin is rather pale, not quite ghostly, but it has the quality like he hasn’t ever been touched by the sunlight.
As for the Dreamwalker’s stature, posture, and gait he stands at about 5’10” (5’11” on a good day), and typically holds himself with a very poised and elegant demeanor, that which someone being trained in noble etiquette displays. Oftentimes though, his body language betrays this line of thinking- most of the time it lingers with certain hints or quirks leaving a disdain on one’s tongue for the need to uphold this kind of ‘proper’ appearance. There isn’t much to speak on behalf of his musculature, save for maybe some tone here and there, for he looks to be about average in size and strength. Looks can be quite deceiving though.
- Best of (Formal Attire):
- The Shinigami uniform that he wears is impeccably tailored, embroidered with silvery threads that run along the edges of Akira’s robes, shimmering faintly with each movement. A long, flowing scarf made of delicate, translucent fabric wraps around his neck, very glass-like in appearance with speckles and spots that flicker in the light. Akira is also typically seen adorned in a cape of some kind, the crest of the Yumeji Family emblazoned at the center of it, same kind of trim as that which adorns his uniform.
- Both Worlds (Casual Attire):
- When on unofficial business though, or when he just is trying to move about without being seen, he’ll dress in something more akin to commoner’s clothes, but still given some extra bit of flair. The cape is more of a hooded cloak, trimmed with gold and no design on the back, but it’s tattered and shredded at the bottom giving it a ghastly look. A simple, single rope often used as a belt atop the drab, dark gray over-shirt. Boring, dark black pants, with a pair of snug boots complete the ensemble.

I. Personality
» Personality: Akira is perceptive and socially adept, balancing a strategic approach to interactions with a subtly expressive nature. He has a calm, calculating demeanor that lets him read people and situations with ease, often engaging others without being overly friendly or warm. His mix of utilizing wits, sharp insights, and occasional sarcastic quips create an air of quiet confidence, with just enough arrogance to make his intellect known. Rather than using his calmness to keep others at arm’s length, Akira engages in a way that shows he’s fully aware and in control - always reading and getting a gauge of others around him, calculating, and subtly guiding interactions to his advantage.
A complex blend of responsibility and rebellion shapes his character. Akira fulfills his duties with precision, yet he often challenges norms and expectations in subtle, almost invisible ways, expressing his independence without completely defying authority. This hidden defiance is paired with a deep empathy toward those caught in the same rigid structures he resents. Akira’s wry humor and cynicism often cloak his compassion, but those closest to him see his protective nature, especially when it comes to those he believes are being oppressed or held back.
Akira has a fascination with the concepts of fate and destiny, believing that understanding their influence could help him control his own path. His connection to his Zanpakuto, Unmei, and its ties to destiny and the weaving of fate mirror his own desire to navigate the threads of his life with agency. Akira views fate as something to be studied, unraveled, and, where possible, influenced—a view that drives his intellectual curiosity. This search for knowledge has made him an avid learner, often seeking out obscure texts or forbidden lore to expand his understanding, even if it means bending rules to get what he wants. His sneaky side emerges tends to emerge in this quest for the unknown or forbidden, as he’s not above using covert means to acquire information that others might prefer hidden.
Underlying this curiosity is a persistent struggle with identity. Akira feels torn between his noble lineage and his desire to define himself beyond its expectations. Though he rarely speaks of it, he constantly questions his place in the world, striving to reconcile his inherited duty with a yearning for personal freedom. This journey of self-discovery shapes much of his character, as he searches for a way to balance who he’s expected to be with who he truly wants to become.
- Key Personality Traits:
Rebellious yet Responsible
Sarcastic and Cynical
Empathetic and Protective
Struggles with Identity
Calm and Calculating
Intrigued by Fate and Destiny
Knowledge-Seeking and Slightly Sneaky
» Likes: Men; anything silver/purple; learning new things; confidence; sewing, needlework, stitching, and loom-work; freedom; strategy games; sparring; spicy foods
» Dislikes: Anything gold; warm colors (except red); overly-emotional people; sports or anything sports related; feeling too restricted; card games; doing nothing; sweet foods
» Hopes:
- To Protect Those He Cares About– Beneath his cynicism, Akira genuinely cares for others and hopes to shield those he deems worthy from harm, especially if he perceives them as victims of the same restrictive systems he resents.
- To Achieve Mastery Over His Zanpakuto– Akira hopes to reach a level of control and mastery with Unmei that makes him a truly formidable Shinigami, channeling his complex relationship with fate into power that can shape his surroundings and influence outcomes.
- To Discover His Own Identity– Torn between expectation and autonomy, Akira’s deepest hope is to understand who he truly is outside of his family’s name and his duty as a Shinigami. He longs for clarity in defining himself on his own terms.
» Fears:
- Discovering Unwelcome Truths– In his quest for knowledge, Akira sometimes fears that he may uncover truths that shake him to his core or reveal parts of himself he would rather not confront. This fear lingers in the back of his mind whenever he delves into hidden knowledge.
- Failing to Protect Those He Cares About– His empathy makes him protective, but Akira fears that his desire to remain detached and self-sufficient may one day prevent him from being there when it truly matters for those he cares about.
- Fear of Being Trapped/Claustrophobia– Given his desire for freedom and independence, Akira may have a fear of being physically trapped in tight spaces, as it parallels his emotional struggle with feeling confined by his lineage.
» Motive(s):
- Need for Autonomy– Akira’s rebellion against tradition and his search for a unique path may stem from a core need for independence. This need motivates him to resist against oppressive forces of authority, question tradition, and seek out forbidden knowledge as a way of forging his own identity.
- Pursuit of Knowledge and Mastery – Akira’s intellectual curiosity and fascination with lore, especially if it’s hidden or forbidden, suggest a motivation to achieve mastery and expand his power. This pursuit for him acts as both a means of self-improvement and as a way to gain leverage in his life.
» Goals:
- Short Term-
- Discover/Unlock All the Abilities of His Shikai– A major goal for Akira, driven by his desire to master Unmei and take control of his fate, is to both discover and master the rest of the abilities presented by the second form of his Zanpakuto. While he may have learned how to release it into this form and a single one of it’s abilities, he’s a far cry from being a master of it, and is ready and eager to learn more about them all.
- Investigate Family Secrets or Hidden Legacies– Since Akira resents his noble lineage of the Yumeji Family, part of him wants to uncover family secrets or hidden legacies to understand his past better. Somewhere down the line in recent years, he’s noticed the rest of them become more corrupt to say the least, wanting to climb the hierarchy of noble families within the Soul Society for power and personal gain, so he’s set to find out and expose what he feels is corrupt about his bloodline.
- Long Term-
- Discover and Unlock His Bankai With its’ Abilities- Just like the short term goal, one of the known areas where Akira can gain more personal power is to master the use of his Zanpakuto to the point where he is finally capable of using it’s final form. To go even beyond the scope of just that alone, he’s drawn to fully mastering it and become one of the strongest Shinigami throughout the Soul Society in terms of using the Bankai.
- Help recover artifacts/tomes lost from the Daireishoukairo- Simply knowing that the Great Spiritual Library was hit and largely rent asunder by the Hollows that ransacked the Soul Society struck a certain discordance within Akira. Being naturally driven by the pursuit of knowledge, he can’t help but feel as if recovering anything that was lost, or restoring what is still left is part of his duty.
I. History
» History:
- Early Age/Pre-Academy Days – Start of WW3:
Born into a noble family in Seireitei, Akira’s early years were dominated by strict training, discipline, and high expectations. His parents, unwavering in their dedication to tradition and status, even though they were but merely a minor noble family, placed relentless pressure on Akira and his siblings to uphold the family’s legacy. From a young age, Akira’s days were filled with rigorous training routines and lessons in etiquette, swordsmanship, and scholarly pursuits. Of those three, the latter pursuit came easiest. There was just something somewhat inexplicable when it came to Akira’s knack for remembering things; while he didn’t have what some would call a photographic or eidetic memory, he was still able to retain knowledge much easier than most. At the age of 5 for instance, he was able to retain random numerical sequences that even his oldest brother wasn’t able to memorize, and he was 14 at the time.
Regardless, every moment seemed meticulously planned, leaving little room for personal freedom or self-discovery. His parents made it clear that his life’s purpose was to become an exemplary Shinigami and reinforce the family’s honor, to gain the power the rest of them so deeply desired – and an ambition they drilled into him daily. And it was always the same old cycle, day in and day out. Taking some basic, and even ‘advanced’ schooling lessons from his mom alongside the proper etiquette required of nobleborns, then come time when it was the afternoon, watching his brothers spar with one another. All of these things save the etiquette lessons, for the time being, he grew to become extremely fond of. Especially what would’ve been mundane schooling. There was just a certain sense of intuitive learning that he was able to pick up on, which would only grow even more watching the nuances and intricacies that came with sparring. This would essentially repeat up until his parents deemed him old enough to start sparring as well, which was around the time his second oldest brother went off to the academy.
One particularly grueling day, his father watched over Akira’s training with an unyielding gaze as they practiced drill after drill with the sword in the family’s dojo. The training was exacting, his father’s corrections cutting through the silence with sharp authority. “Your form is sloppy, Akira,” he barked, his voice cold and unwavering as the bamboo fan he held clacked to a close. “Do it again. If you can’t master the basics, you’re no better than a commoner swinging a stick.” His father’s words stung, and the muscles in Akira’s arms burned, but he clenched his jaw and raised his sword, determined to avoid showing weakness. After hours of repetitive movements and relentless critique, he made a single error, shifting his weight too soon. His older brother struck him on the shoulder with the dull end of a training sword. “Is this how you honor our family’s legacy?” Akira held back a retort, his eyes flashing with a resentment he dared not voice. To speak out would invite further punishment, and so he stayed silent, channeling his frustration into the next stance.
Though he excelled in his lessons, Akira grew increasingly disillusioned with this predetermined path. Observing how his siblings, too, had little choice or voice in their futures, he felt trapped by the rigid structure his parents imposed. The constant need to be “perfect” and adhere to his family’s standards created an inner conflict within him. Privately, Akira began to resent the noble customs that forced him to prioritize duty over individuality, viewing his parents' idea of “honor” as a cage that restricted his potential. While his family saw his abilities and obedience as signs of success, Akira saw them as reminders of the life he never chose.
Over time, Akira’s resentment toward his noble lineage grew, and he became quietly rebellious, refusing to let their expectations dictate his sense of self. Behind his reserved demeanor, he resolved to carve out his own identity, even if it meant challenging his family’s principles. His growing cynicism toward nobility’s order and perfection set him apart from others in his family, and he began nurturing a desire to break free from the cycle of duty they so fiercely upheld, and towards what he felt was his true destiny; showing the Soul Society that they needn’t follow rigidly oppressive regimes to maintain the balance of things. This inner rebellion fueled his determination to one day seek his own path, a path that wouldn’t simply be dictated by the Yumeji family name or the rigid expectations of Seireitei’s noble class.
- Academy Years – Height of WW3:
Akira entered the Shinigami Academy with a determination fueled as much by his ambition as by his desire to escape the overbearing expectations of his noble family. Though he had grown up with intensive training, the Academy’s instruction in the four Shinigami Arts exposed him to techniques and disciplines that pushed his abilities in new ways. During his first few years, he quickly stood out in Zanjutsu, where his strict upbringing gave him a natural edge, but also in Hoho, where his more natural sense of timing and intuition made him surprisingly nimble. One of the many techniques that came to be a staple within his maneuvers was one called ‘Deadly Darts’; a move that utilized the cloth wrapped around the hilt of a blade to wield it as a mid-range weapon. He found solace in his growing knowledge of Kido, even if he wasn’t a natural at it. However, Hakuda held less appeal for him, as he saw unarmed combat as an inelegant last resort, far removed from the refined techniques he valued. Despite his steady progress, Akira kept a low profile, cautious not to attract unwanted attention from his family or the instructors…or at least, he tried to…
One day, Akira overheard a group of students taunting another student whose father had recently died in World War III. Their mocking words, crude and heartless, struck a nerve, and before he could stop himself, Akira intervened. “Maybe you’d be as brave if you had to fight on the front lines,” he shot back, his voice sharp with uncharacteristic rage and anger. Akira couldn’t help but feel this way, and snapped; the exchange quickly escalated into a physical confrontation, with Akira standing his ground against the bullies despite being outnumbered. The instructors arrived before the fight went too far, but the bruises and warnings Akira received were worth it to him. This experience left a lasting impression, instilling in him a deep disdain for cruelty and arrogance in that kind of sense - and a strong sense of empathy for those enduring loss and hardship because of the war.
As he progressed through the Academy, Akira’s curiosity about life outside Seireitei grew, and his late-night ventures into the Rukongai became more frequent. His encounters with Rukongai residents, who shared tales of resilience and struggle, humbled him, while the exposure to harsher living conditions contrasted sharply with his own sheltered upbringing. It was here, too, that he began sewing and mending clothing, initially as a practical skill to fix torn garments he wore on these excursions. Over time, he found the craft both calming and useful, appreciating the focus it required as well as the satisfaction of helping others with even simple repairs. His knack for sewing extended to aiding fellow students, stitching up cuts or torn uniforms, and became an unassuming but vital skill that brought him closer to others who respected his quiet kindness.
Akira’s time at the Academy gave him the skills to forge his own path, but it was his late-night ventures into the outskirts that shaped his understanding of his place within the Soul Society. As he neared graduation, he became increasingly driven to explore beyond what was expected of him, determined to find a purpose that was his own rather than one dictated by family or duty alone. The desire to bridge the gap between nobility and the Outer Districts, along with his growing disillusionment with Soul Society’s social structure, would shape his motivations as he prepared to join the ranks of the Gotei 13.
- Joining the Gotei 13 – End of WW3-2050ish:
Akira’s entry into the Gotei 13 was less a choice than a decree from his family. Despite his rebellion at the Academy, their influence weighed heavily on him, and his induction was viewed as inevitable, almost ceremonial. Assigned to one of the lower-ranked seats in the 13th Division, Akira found himself navigating the formalities and expectations of service in Seireitei with a mix of resentment and duty. He felt trapped in a role dictated by his lineage rather than his own aspirations, yet he buried his discontent beneath an unassuming compliance, aware that this position allowed him to escape his family’s direct oversight. Despite his conflicted feelings, Akira committed himself to the tasks he was given, determined to meet the standards demanded of him while quietly searching for a path of his own.
One fateful patrol changed the trajectory of Akira’s life within the Gotei 13. He and a close friend from his Academy days were dispatched to investigate Hollow activity on the outskirts of Rukongai. They encountered a powerful Hollow, one whose size and strength outmatched any they had faced before. In the chaotic skirmish that ensued, Akira’s friend took a fatal blow, sacrificing himself to shield Akira from the Hollow’s lethal strike. Grief and rage surged within him, and in that moment, he fought with a fierce, unrelenting focus. While the Hollow had one up on him due to its sheer size and strength, the Shinigami would lean in on his agility and quick thinking; making calculated and precise strikes paired with what would be a new personal record for velocity behind his Shunpo.
Through a combination of skill, desperation, and a newfound connection to his spirit energy, he’d match blow to blow with the Hollow. After some time, and with a few sustained injuries, he managed to defeat the evil, wayward spirit, utilizing the very Zanjutsu technique he’d come to cherish dearly; Deadly Darts. In a moment of feigning defeat, as the Hollow would seemingly lurch closer and closer to make the final move while it was too distracted by its’ own sense of bloodlust, he’d take the opportune moment to deliver that fatal and final blow by hurling his katana towards the thing. Then, finally standing over its dissipating form with the weight of his friend’s death bearing down on him. This battle marked a turning point; when he returned to Seireitei, his Asauchi had begun its transformation, solidifying the bond that would soon reveal his Zanpakuto.
In the days that followed, Akira experienced restless nights filled with fleeting visions of a shadowed figure weaving threads in a realm both familiar and foreign. These visions eventually led to his first communion with his Zanpakuto spirit, The Weaver. In the mist-shrouded realm of his inner world, he confronted the enigmatic being, whose demeanor and gaze reflected Akira’s own struggle between duty and personal will. Their interaction was not warm but rather tinged with mutual recognition and caution; The Weaver challenged Akira to confront his motives and intentions, hinting at a shared path marked by fate. But still, the name of his new weapon was discovered: Unmei no Hari - Fate's Needle. This connection deepened his understanding of himself and the path that lay before him, solidifying his determination to carve out a purpose that was truly his own, even within the rigid structures of the Gotei 13. Because of this occurrence, the Yumeji Family would give him something; the alias of Dreamwalker. All of the one's who have trained with a Zanpakuto in his lineage communed with their respective spirits via Jinzen, whereas his initial experience was one that he didn't specifically mean to happen.
Driven by this new sense of purpose, Akira poured himself into training, honing both his natural abilities and the skills he’d developed during his Academy years. His dedication to Zanjutsu and swordsmanship intensified as he worked to wield his newly awakened Zanpakuto, with a precision that honored his friend’s sacrifice. It was also around this time that he'd personally start to practice utilizing other weapons, primarily one's like whips or chain weaponry. To the Fatebound, his preference for these kinds of weapons took inspiration from the original dream sequence with his Zanpakuto spirit; seeing that they also were a being of weaving and stitching, these kinds of weaponry felt symbolic by nature to a certain degree. Speaking of, he also took time to refine his sewing skills, using it as a calming ritual to balance the intense pressures of his Shinigami duties. His skill in Hoho slightly improved with practice, but not to the same degree as his Zanjutsu knowledge and efficiency; and his intuitive sense of timing alongside being a very tactical, strategic person became a defining characteristic of his combat style. Throughout these years, he'd also regularly commune with The Weaver through Jinzen. Learning more and more about the spirit, and coming to an understanding of all that they embodied. The Fatebound knew through getting to know one another more, his destiny would become clearer as time would pass. Though his heart was still conflicted about his role, these early years in the Gotei 13 marked the beginning of his journey toward both mastery and self-discovery.
- Gotei 13 Years Continued - 2050ish-2100ish:
During the following decades, Akira gained a reputation for his skill and resilience within the 13th Division. His accomplishments on the battlefield were numerous, and he developed a particular knack for handling Hollow clusters in high-risk zones. On one mission, he went with a squad into a heavily infested district, where his precision and strategic planning minimized casualties, even in the face of overwhelming odds. Akira was able to put some focus to the mission, and make careful deductions on the best laid plan; still a simple one to say the least: divide and conquer, then flank the enemy.
On another occasion, Akira singlehandedly defended a group of unarmed Rukongai citizens from a particularly powerful Hollow, using his evergrowing skills in swordsmanship and Hoho to outmaneuver it until he delivered a decisive blow; most notably from this particular fight he managed to use Shunpo 4 successive times, twice to move inward for a strike, and twice to back away again remaining uninjured. His skill with Zanjutsu and his ability to stay composed under pressure earned him respect, though he remained unassuming, quietly performing his duties without seeking any real external recognition for his actions. This would only further the conflict with the rest of his family, who was constantly pushing for him to ascend the ranks of the Gotei 13 so they might possibly assimilate more power for themselves as well. Having a prodigal son like a Captain or Commander even would certainly boost their reputation and acclaim, and this couldn't help but draw in some interest from Akira himself. Thoughts would race through on occasion if his family's current legacy was as honorable as they'd try to appear on the surface.
Outside of his formal duties, Akira’s curiosity drew him to the Outer Districts of Rukongai and beyond, venturing sneakily into the wilderness and abandoned areas in search of wisdom and insights. He began to delve into ancient texts from centuries past and abandoned temples, studying anything that hinted at spiritual knowledge or combat techniques that could refine his understanding of intuition and memory. While nothing specifically world-shattering came from these adventures, they still did help to improve his talents here and there. Certain situations required him to place emphasis on the steady hand maneuvers he picked up from sewing, while others made him flat out use the occasional Shunpo maneuver to avoid unsavory traps. These excursions became a form of meditation, allowing him to observe the world outside Seireitei’s structured order, while also honing his innate abilities. Akira’s memory only grew even sharper than it was before as he absorbed new knowledge. His intuition was also on a similar uphill track, fed by the nuances he observed in the world around him, became a powerful asset, allowing him to discern details others often overlooked.
On one of these journeys, Akira found himself on the edge of the wilderness, where few Shinigami had ventured, surrounded by the dense quiet of untouched lands. Here, he encountered spiritual phenomena and minor creatures beyond what he’d experienced in Seireitei or Rukongai, each experience lending itself to a deeper understanding of spirit energy and the fragility of life. These explorations not only enriched his skills but also furthered his empathy for those dwelling outside the protective walls of Seireitei. He became increasingly aware of the disparity between the nobility and the common soul, and his growing desire to bridge these worlds cemented his resolve to challenge the limitations imposed by his noble heritage.
One evening, as he performed Jinzen in a quiet clearing, Akira felt his connection to The Weaver deepen in a way it hadn’t before. Entering his inner world, he was met with the Zanpakuto spirit’s familiar, enigmatic gaze, its silent appraisal hinting at something more than their usual exchanges made in past moments. The Weaver acknowledged his recent growth and the untapped, raw potential he held, observing that his inner strength and understanding had advanced since they first met all those years. However, there was an undercurrent to The Weaver's words - a sense that Akira still lacked something essential to unlocking his Shikai. Though close to awakening its true power, he would need to reach deeper into himself and his purpose to fully realize their bond. And it was in this moment where she would call him and name him under his second alias to emphasize his nature: 'The Fatebound'. Determined, Dreamwalker left that meditation more resolved than ever, knowing that he was on the cusp of something significant but that the final step would demand even more from him.
- Last of the Gotei 13 Years-Present Day:
As the 13th Division embarked on a high-stakes mission to defend a vulnerable Rukongai settlement under siege from Hollows, Akira found himself thrust into a life-altering encounter. Tasked with leading a small team for the first time to rescue villagers held hostage by a powerful Hollow with mind-control abilities, he quickly realized the severity of the threat was far beyond what had been anticipated. In the heat of the battle, Akira faced a difficult choice: to protect his squad at all costs or to break formation, risking his own life to save the villagers. Driven by his resolve to protect those who could not protect themselves, Akira chose to act alone, pushing beyond his limits as he confronted the Hollow head-on, grappling with each split-second decision as if it were a stitch in the fabric of fate itself.
With his back against the wall and nearly overwhelmed, Akira’s inner calm set in, accepting the weight of his choice as his alone, not determined by duty, tradition, or noble expectation. In that critical moment, his spiritual energy surged, calling upon the dormant power of The Weaver, whose voice resonated within him, acknowledging Akira's newfound understanding of fate as a dynamic force shaped by one’s convictions. Granting him access to his Shikai, The Weaver was practically whispering in his ear: "Now is the time...to weave your own path.", and trusting his instinct, the Fatebound would mimic the spirit's word: releasing his Zanpakuto to allow for its second form's Manifestation to take shape.
He'd watch with both silent awe and newly replenished confidence as the Uchigatana within his hand merged and changed into one he'd feel more comfortable wielding; a kusarigama that appeared to be designed with the same silver threads The Weaver so aptly utilized. Feeling this sudden surge, he'd also use its newfound ability to it's full potential within this moment, successfully managing to get 4 of the necessary Karmic Marks required onto the Hollow which slowed it down enough for Akira to deliver the final blow. The battle left him irrevocably changed, deepening his connection with his Zanpakuto and marking his first real step toward his destiny.
In the aftermath, Akira found himself at odds with his noble lineage when the Gotei 13 was disbanded, and the newly restructured Gotei United rose from its ashes. While his father expected him to take up a prestigious position within the new order, Akira made the choice to defy his family’s wishes and not join. Rather than conform to the expectations of his noble heritage, he sought to shape his own path, even if it meant relinquishing the safety and status afforded by a seat in the new Gotei United. This act of defiance solidified Akira’s commitment to carve out his own destiny rather than have it dictated by others. Instead, he'd choose to fly solo for a bit. Continuing to refine what he could do best alongside his Shikai. Within that span of time, he came to an understanding of how to wield it in this initial release alongside other chain weapons in a manner to where he wouldn't get all caught up within the chains. An easy way to ensure someone couldn't turn his own weapon against him.
Years later, on a night that would come to be known as the Night of Farewells, the Soul Society was struck by a massive Hollow assault, leading to tragic losses and widespread devastation. Akira fought tirelessly in the chaos near the Grand Spiritual Library, one of Soul Society’s most precious repositories of knowledge. Although he did his utmost to protect the library, the relentless attack left it heavily damaged, with irreplaceable records and artifacts lost to the flames and destruction. Akira’s inability to stop the library’s desecration left him feeling a deep responsibility toward its restoration, fueling a personal mission to rebuild and preserve the knowledge it once held, honoring the wisdom lost and the legacy of those who had safeguarded it. Now, in the wake of all that occurred, another choice has arisen. To rejoin what become of the Gotei United under the Daimei or the Jietei; and ultimately, he'd seek for the prior. Not in an attempt to please his family and uphold their supposed 'honorable' line, but to better protect what he saw as the balance of things and challenge some expectations here and there too.
I. Natural Abilities
» Natural Abilities:
Swordsmanship/Chain Weaponry Training– Akira has trained extensively in swordsmanship alongside his siblings, making him skilled in combat and strategic in his approach to using his Zanpakuto. His technique emphasizes precision, speed, and efficiency rather than brute force. He views Unmei as a large sewing needle, having enough training with it to make strikes that are pinpointed, turning seemingly unharmful attacks into the best case scenario for him. Furthermore, even before Akira unlocked the Shikai, he preferred chain weaponry like a kusarigama. His training in these kinds of weaponry is extensive enough to the point where he can’t get tangled in his own chains.
Intuitive Strategist– Reflecting his connection to fate and calculating demeanor, Akira has a natural sense of timing, both in and out of combat, often sensing the right moment to speak, glean other’s emotional states, strike, block, or reposition himself. This instinct gives him an almost uncanny ability to perceive and anticipate actions other’s take, lending an edge to his strategic mindset and adaptability. It is to be noted, this is not foresight of any kind. The Fatebound can only use visual, auditory, or tactile information presented to him to make carefully thought-out maneuvers to take the best point of action.
Enhanced Memory– Akira has a very strong, borderline eidetic memory honed over the years from all the knowledge he has gained in the variety of searches for that very thing. This especially applies for details and sequences, which aids him in both remembering and recalling intel, strategic patterns, names, faces, and specific locations. This skill is invaluable in battle, as he can quickly remember opponents’ fighting styles or weaknesses. Outside combat, it helps him retain knowledge he’s gathered on various topics.
Sewing Proficiency– Akira has a certain honed aptitude for sewing, allowing him to mend clothes and even provide decent medical aid in the form of stitches for most wounds. This skill comes in handy for patching up his uniform after battle and keeping his attire sharp and pristine. His knowledge of stitching techniques and patterns also gives him a precise, steady hand, useful in situations requiring careful, delicate movements.
I. Racial Abilities
» Racial Abilities:
Zanjutsu- Of the four Shinigami Arts, this is arguably the one where Akira's ‘strong suit’ and primary focus lies, being practically fundamental to his overall fighting style. This is also certainly one of the two where he continually trains and refines after his time spent at the academy. While there, the focus for him was just simply learning and practicing the basics, with some more ‘advanced’ techniques; one of which that has stuck with Akira throughout the years was Deadly Darts, allowing him to implement some ranged attacks into his wheelhouse to make up for his lack of durability. Since then, he has trained enough to a point where he unlocked his Shikai and one of its more basic abilities, but he has yet to still fully master both this form in general and the ability currently achieved.
Hoho- This is the second favorite and next 'most trained' of the four, noting that his skill with Hoho still doesn't match that of his Zanjutsu ability. Conversely, this is also the second one that to this very day, he finds himself practicing and training the most. At the very minimum, Akira has a functional understanding of the basics, enough to perform Shunpo with moderate success. His movements lack the seamless fluidity of a seasoned practitioner, often requiring more effort and focus than he would like to admit. Akira’s execution can sometimes leave him vulnerable, as he tends to overestimate the distance he can cover or the energy required to perform consecutive steps. Despite this, he recognizes the value of mobility in battle, and wants to refine his skill in Hoho.
Kido- Though not his primary focus, Akira possesses the necessary and most basic foundation in Kidō, the mystical art of casting spells. He favors lower-level Hadō and Bakudō that don’t require extensive incantations, using them to control the battlefield or create brief windows for his sword strikes. His enhanced memory aids him in remembering complex incantations when needed, allowing him to perform Kidō accurately and without hesitation. While they aren’t as commonly seen in the ebb and flow of battle like his Zanjutsu or Hoho, Akira is still able to pull a trick or two out of his sleeve when needed with Kido.
Hakuda- Akira’s least developed Shinigami Art by a literal mile is Hakuda. Even in the academy, to put it plainly, there was a slight sense of laziness when it came to learning this. He just never really found hand-to-hand combat all that stimulating like when having to dash around or use a weapon. Also, it doesn’t help that a few close quarter hits would quite literally put him on his ass, so, all in all, even now he barely utilizes anything that has the semblance of being a Hakuda maneuver.
I. Zanpakutō
» Zanpakutō Name: Unmei no Hari
» Zanpakutō Spirit:
- Appearance of The Weaver:
- The Weaver looks like a genderless, tall, and ethereal figure dressed in flowing, dark robes that seem to be woven from threads of silver and shadow; they could largely be described as ‘hauntingly beautiful’. A quizzically perfect blend of both the macabre and delightful alike, symbolic of the very thing they represent, Fate, being neutral in regard to the cosmic balance of light and dark. Their hands are always busy with threads that wrap around their forearms and ebb to and from the surrounding environment, seemingly stitching or weaving an unseen tapestry in the air. As for their face, it doesn’t take on a singular appearance. It always shifts between a multitude of different masks to represent the even larger plethora of paths one can walk to achieve their destiny.
- The Weaver’s Personality:
- The Weaver is an enigmatic figure, seemingly distant yet deeply invested in the Akira’s journey, always guiding him with an air of gentle detachment. They speak slowly and softly, as if every word is carefully selected and calculated from an endless, infinite well of knowledge. Each time Akira has asked for guidance, and each time he will in the future, the Weaver responds in riddles or parables, leading them to discover answers on their own rather than handing them solutions outright. This mysterious figure views fate not as something rigid, but as a living tapestry, shifting and evolving based on choices and actions, though they believe certain threads cannot be altered. They are understanding that while some routes may get the Shinigami to his destination quicker and easier, those aren’t the only routes that can be taken to get to where he needs to be.
Though calm and composed, the Weaver can be exacting, particularly when Akira strays too far from the intended point of destination within the bounds that make his destiny, or if and when he attempts to defy fate altogether. In those moments, their gentle demeanor hardens. Almost to the point where they become slightly severe, warning him of the dangers of tampering too heavily with the natural order. The Weaver embodies the balance between fate and free will, teaching that while some aspects of life are fixed, others are as malleable as the very threads that would be seen in a loom. Their patience is nearly endless, but when Akira acts recklessly or lacks humility, the Weaver reminds them that every decision, no matter how small, has consequences in the grand design.
» Inner World: Akira’s inner world is an endless expanse of soft, rolling hills covered in silvery, dew-laden grass that sparkles faintly, as if each blade were woven with threads of moonlight. The sky above is in a constant twilight state - neither night nor day - casting a gentle, ethereal glow over everything. Delicate, nearly invisible threads stretch across the horizon, weaving through the air and connecting various points in the landscape like an enormous, interlocking web. When Akira steps on the ground, it gives ever so slightly, as if treading upon a soft fabric; with each footfall, threads briefly illuminate, marking their presence before fading back into invisibility. Despite its beauty, there’s a feeling of gravity to the space, as if every movement and every choice resonates across the entire field, subtly altering the weave.
Scattered throughout the fields are tall, elegant stone arches that loom like large doorways, each draped in countless silver threads that sway and shimmer in a wind that cannot be felt. Passing through these arches leads Akira to different “moments” within the world—echoes of past decisions, memories, or possible futures that appear as reflections on the other side of the arch. Each arch holds a slightly different scene or memory, making the inner world a reflection of Akira’s journey and choices. In the center of the Tapestry Fields lies a large, circular loom with threads of every color stretching out into the distance, feeding into the network across the landscape. This loom is where The Weaver resides, always working, hands in constant motion, and guiding Akira toward understanding the complexities of destiny that surround them
» Sealed Zanpakutō Appearance: An uchigatana, with a very small length of chain at the end of it’s hilt (less than 1 ft, mechanically does nothing to make it a full ‘chain weapon’, only would help to maybe block an attack by grabbing the chain with his other hand). Shimmering silver fabric wraps around the hilt, it may not seem it, but this fabric spans 10 feet in total.
» Sealed Zanpakutō Power: Silver Threads: Stitching Maneuver- If Akira hits someone with the Unmei no Hari, a portion of the fabric wrapped around the hilt may be unraveled and ‘stitch’ itself into who they hit, using the wound as an entry point. This will then limit the mobility of whatever part of the body he managed to successfully hit; visible, taut silver threads leading down towards the ground, anchoring them to the spot.
I. Shikai
» Shikai Release Phrase: Oru - Weave
» Shikai Release Action: -
» Shikai Appearance: Unmei no Hari transforms into a kusarigama with a spectral, silver-threaded chain (7 ft in length) and a blade that gleams like polished steel, appearing to have faint, swirling patterns as if threads were woven into the metal. The ball on the other end is a constantly spinning, yin-yang symbol; it’s white color is more silver in nature, while the black appears void or shadow-like.
» Shikai Abilities:
Karmic Mark- Each time Akira lands a hit against a target with either the sickle or chain, a silver mark physically forms on the opponent where the strike landed, representing a "karmic debt." A mark will remain on a target for 3 posts unless a new one is accumulated onto the same target. If another successive one is made, this ‘timer’ is effectively reset, but, they’d still only lose a single mark every 3 posts.
Once 4 marks are accumulated, they converge into a thread that binds tightly, slowing the opponent's movements and reactions as the weight of their fate presses upon them. Mechanically speaking, this effectively makes the target act with a Speed that is 15% lower than what they normally can move around at for 4 posts. Optionally, these marks can also be hit by the ball of Unmei, enhancing the damage dealt as if Akira has Strength that is 10% greater than what he currently has; this consumes the mark upon a successful hit.

- The Raiju’s Fight Comes to an End:
- And so, fate would have it.
The attack against the two would inevitably land, knocking both of the shinobi unconscious but not outright killing either of them. Calmly, Hiroki would then walk down the side of the building with the targets in question being confirmed to be out cold; without the use of surface walking though since the Pirate Boots he wore did that for him.
Once down on the earth’s surface, while making his way towards the Suna nins, the man who hid his face, would draw the Quarterstaff which was tied around the waist at his back. Placing it upon the ground, chakra being pulled into the casting implement, and after a moment of gathering it there, roots would start to emerge from underneath. Traveling side by side with the lad until they’d reach the intended destination. ”A life…for a life. I’m sorry, little cat. Your story comes to an end here. Izanagi shall carry your spirit from our world, into the next.” And two of the roots would reach out, wrapping their selves around Asami. They would outstretch all around the kunoichi’s body, crushing the central portion of the spinal cord before reaching her neck; inevitably crushing bones first, killing her there on the spot, before also causing the larynx and trachea to collapse to ensure the job was done. A swift death
”As for you, young wolf. Your story still continues, for now at least. Who’s to say where it shall lead though? But, for the sake of things. I apologize for what I’m about to do.” Although the words would be left unheard, it wouldn’t make a difference as two other roots would begin to then slither around Asuka. Curling specifically at the base of the spine, the roots would then cause enough blunt force trauma to the sciatic nerve to make his legs go completely numb. After which, the roots would lock around the knee caps; breaking them. Going back up, one around each shoulder blade, enough strength would be used to dislocate each. Thus forth preventing the shinobi from being able to utilize their legs or arms until treated by a medical professional.
Once the deed was done, he’d seal the now corpse of the female into the corpse storage scroll within his possession, then hoist the lad in a fireman’s carry and be on his way to meet back up with the others.
I. Intent
» Character Intent: So, the perfect vision of Akira would be him starting as Class 8; strength wise I think he's fitting of this because the very basic stuff of what's needed is all there, and the stuff that he's proficient in has been well trained and honed in on. While I do think this may be fitting of Class 7 or 6 potentially, I understand that's not the best case scenario since this is my starting character, and there is the needed emphasis that he has a long way to go and grow. For story beats, the primary one's as of right now would be what I have for his Short/Long Term goals. Lastly, for the purpose of creating Akira, I wanted to make him for the purpose of he's ultimately a character who's meant to help other's along the path to achieve their own destiny, while also walking that for himself as well. Also, potentially make some at least small character arcs by challenging pre-set expectations in place by certain factions.

- Initial Check:
- Hello!
Apologies for the wait time. This week has been hard.
I really enjoyed reading your application! I am excited to see where he goes on PH.
So, since this is your first character, you will be required to pick between Zanjutsu and Hoho for the single adept allowed in each skill section. Right now, both of these skills are described as adept level, so please take the time to choose one to lower and describe the skill accordingly.
Shikai, Karmic Mark, Second Paragraph:
Mechanically speaking, this effectively makes the target act with a Speed that is 2 grades lower than what they have for 4 posts. Optionally, these marks can also be hit by the ball of Unmei, enhancing the damage dealt as if Akira has strength that is one grade higher than what they currently have; this consumes the mark upon a successful hit.
We do not allow rank-drops for skills. Instead, apply a penalty using percentiles, such as "the character takes a 10% penalty to their speed." Rank drops are way too significant. Please apply this same ruling to skill enhancing, by applying a percentile boost in the same fashion.
