Just Like A Buffalo... [Azariel, Khaana]
Mon Oct 14, 2024 1:27 pm
There was nothing else to expect from him than a fate like this. Under the order of someone else, an act to carry out someone else’s will and return with good results, so his existence could continue to make sense. There was really nothing else to it…
There was. There was, but he couldn’t bring it to the forefront of his foggy mind. He had a person to kill. No questions were asked, and Azariel had spilled blood before. It was what his father taught him – kill, kill, devour and kill some more. Kill to stand on his own two feet. Kill and grow, and lay the foundation of his purpose with the bones of his victims. Just kill… and don’t ask questions. Only losers asked questions.
Mentally, he couldn’t be closer to rock-bottom than this. His heart continued to ache, but at this rate, there were so many reasons that he barely noticed the guilt that crept up on him. He was in Japan, closing in on his target with his Sonido – apparently, said target was a spiritually aware Human who had earned the wrath of his current boss. And the boss liked the Arrancars and their general ethics, sort of like a fan… so Azariel offered his strength. He was no longer lost to his own, harrowing thoughts. He was no longer alone.
…
He made little effort to be stealthy – the moment he spotted his target, a bunch of Balas rained down from the sky, all constricting the target’s ability to escape as Azariel descended, holding a pair of Balas charged in each hand. He had no words for this person. No relations. No personal feelings, no remarks, nothing. Just a task to fulfill. His client wasn’t even that absolute – Azariel could easily have ignored him, but he actively sought a leash. He was too afraid to be left for himself. Someone had to lead him, just like his father used to. That was how he came this far…

Felt a little weird, still doing the human thing. But there were still some nice things about it. Meeting up with other streamers for example. Josu was a Japanese gamer that had recently rose in popularity, they had done a few videos together and he was actually pretty cool and relaxed. And getting to meet him was actually rather interesting. Turned out his Dad and Brother were cops for the local police department. and while they originally had just talked about a bunch of nonsense, he soon mentioned that there was some sort of big investigation that had gone down recently. Huh, go figure. It was ... kinda wild to hear about such mundane happenings in the lives of humans. Then again, some criminals these days were pretty wild. Guess that was bound to happen with so much spiritual stuff happening. And as she sat across from him on the outside table of a coffee shop, she couldn't help but think he was kinda fun to be around.
However, she didn't expect the ... shift in the atmosphere so suddenly. A loud crackle sounding as bala rained down and burst around them, a startled scream rang out from the people around her, and amidst the spray of broken wood and metal from the nearby table and railings being blown apart, she could see the guy she was sitting with covering his head in fear. But she didn't. Her good eye swept the area as her reikaku sharpened, and focused on. ...
A fuckin Arrancar?!
Her eye snapped wide open in shock as she watched him hit the ground, and she promptly grabbed him. Shhhhhhit. "JOSU cmon we gotta get outta here!" She lightly shook him, the young man blinking owlishly before nodding, terror clear in his eyes. Tch, right, civillian. She promptly looked around quickly before promptly grasping him by the wrist and bucking it down the street away from the chaos. Amidst a swarm of other people trying to escape the area. Though as they ran, Khaana's focus continued to stick to that Arrancar up above. She just needed to get Josu somewhere safe, then she could deal with them.

The guy looked afraid. The target wasn’t used to this… Azariel felt bad. He was tasked with taking this guy’s life? Stinging. But a task was a task, and what was Azariel supposed to do? Return and deny? He’d already accepted the task… he’d come off as a hypocrite, an unreliable guy in the eyes of the client. And he’d dedicated his entire existence to being reliable…
He’d see it through. Until the end.
Azariel ignored the others. Even as he landed on his feet, he merely weaved across the other panicking people, not touching a single one as he locked in on the Spiritual Pressure… of the woman leading his target away. She was likely an obstacle to his goal, helping the target escape, so he’d have to move her away. The panic would end up proving an obstacle in and of itself, but-
*BRRZ*
Simply put, he performed a Sonido – with a violent step, his body faded into a black blur, charging forward at a higher speed and with a distinguishable buzzing sound. He closed most of the distance, and… he spoke. Still running up to them, with both blades unsheathed and ready to slash.
“Please… die.”

People were still rushing around them, but there was a noticeable part in the wave of people. A single spiritual pressure that she sensed moving closer. And yet... wasn't snuffing out the humans near it? She stole a look over her shoulder and her good eye widened slightly as she spotted them up close now. An arrancar, ....waving people by? This creature wasn't just causing wanton destruction, it was AFTER something. And that promptly amped up her adrenaline, imagining that ....was this thing after her? Her heart raced in that moment and a black shadow spilled down from beneath her eyepatch. However, to her surprise, the crackle of a sonido interrupted her thoughts and her reikaku refocused. Surprise in her mind as she saw that he wasn't focused on her, but Josu?!
No time to think.
That black shadow spread beneath their feet, yawning wide as it chewed through the concrete beneath them, and then a sudden vicious eruption of gleaming blades as several swords and spears suddenly burst from the shadow and stabbed upwards, aiming to slam into the arrancar's arm from below so as to intercept the strike, protecting Josu as Khaana hissed, grabbing one of the spears and promptly shoving the blade against his back, the haft twisting around his body, winding several times around his frame before melting into the hard material it was comprised of, and promptly adhering to the young man's outfit. IT wasn't as good as how she usually did this, but it would make a makeshift bit of armor, wrapping around his neck, chest, and belly. Protecting his vital areas. "Fucking RUN dude!" She barked out to Josu. Who was frankly freaked out, but his eyes were SQUARELY on the blade that had just been going for him, and so as soon as he was shoved, he bolted down the street!
Leaving Khaana panting a bit as she stood between Azariel and his quarry. That darkness spread across the street, the people around them having cleared out, there was a loud SHING as a wall of spears burst along the street behind her, further barring the arrancar from chasing his target. That shadow continuing to spread wider, eating away at the sidewalk as it did.
"Heh, not often I see such sombre eyes on someone looking to kill a person. Let alone a nerd as helpless as Josu. So start talkin Half-mask. The hell do you think you're doing?" She muttered. Possibly startling the man by using a slur for arrancar that usually circulated among hollows.

Azariel saw the expansion of some black, shadowy figure from beneath his feet too late – the arm of his that held the blade aiming closest to Josu was aptly slashed up by the emergence of a sword bloom, several blades born from the black below and janking up to impede his movement. His arm got slashed up pretty badly, stopping him in his tracks as the lady now stood between him and his target.
He lifted his arm off, the rusty taste of blood running down his fingers as the cuts got deeper from the action – he had to catch up and fulfill his mission, after all. But the redhead kept interfering with weapons spawning from below, and Azariel became more wary and stepped back in an attempt to avoid getting slashed and stabbed even further. Now, a wall of spears was in his way.
His slashed arm began to regenerate immediately, something he kept as no secret to his adversary. His eyes remained dry and sombre, void of any atom of positive vibe. “…” She wanted to know what he was doing, why he was hunting the innocent guy down…
Why did his heart ache? He was simply tasked with it, nothing more. Stupid Azariel… stupid tool…
“I have a mission. Step aside,” he answered, a voice too professional but empty of spirit. No further details – she could know that he was tasked by someone else, and perhaps that was for the best. Still, the wall of spears was in the way – one of his twin wakizashis (or uchigatanas, whatever) began to glow a bright red outline, and as he held it up, he spoke:
“Bala Filo.”
With that, he swiftly slashed against the spears with the attempt to simply blow it away. Damn what’d happen to his arm – he could easily regenerate the damage. That was why he was so reliant on this move.

- Bala Filo:
- The reiryoku used to manifest a Bala is instead encapsuling himself as a veil of aura, and any contact with the veil (physical or energy-based such as Kidō, Cero etc.) causes it to detonate as a small explosion and injure both parties. The only reason Azariel developed this self-harming variation is because of his Regenerar. The veil disappears upon blowing up, and it can't be stacked if left untouched. Once the veil disappears, it takes 3 posts before Azariel can apply a new veil on himself.
Azariel can also utilize Bala Filo to envelop his Sealed Zanpakutō with it. Contact with the Sealed Zanpakutō with this veil will cause the veil to release a small explosion in the same manner, and with the same cooldown.

This was it wasn't it? This was the exact situation that she'd been training so hard for. She was in the middle of a goddamn city. She wanted to be able to handle this... GUY. But she couldn't release. Not fully. If she turned into that big monstrosity, then she may as well just throw her life out the window if anyone caught sight of it. Her eye darted. She could see frightened civillians here and there. The few who were injured by the blasts and couldn't run.
This was already bad. It was bad enough she was using her powers in public. But she had to keep this up. Her eye narrowing as she braced herself, seeing the glowing film on that weapon. She peeled one of the spears from the wall itself and narrowed her good eye, preparing herself for an attack, only for her brows ro taise as not her, but that wall was suddenly assaulted! The explosive burst of energy rocked the street and shook the ground as that powerful burst slammed into the wall. But as the debris cleared, and frankly even before then. Azariel would FEEL the wall was not just still there. But something had caught his blade.
His zanpaku'to flush up against the wall, the haft of a spear had twisted like a living thing and coiled around the blade of his sword. A single eye opening at the center of the cross-guard to stare at the man.
Just as Khaana launched herself at him from the side and aimed to slam an open hand into the side of his face. Flesh hardening into a deep red carapace armor, something that one might expect on a hollow, would lunge in and aim to slam Azariel head-first into the nearby building, an attempt to pin him to the wall with a sudden insane burst of strength. She wasn't naturally strong of course, but with a shunt of spiritual energy, that strength of her was suddenly amplified.
"Business man eh?~ You should asked for more money though. I'm definitely not someone you aughta be fighting for cheap." She noted with a cant of her head as she brought her other hand in and attemptyed to tap that spearpoint to the arrancar's chest. "So, if you ARE some kinda hired hand. How do you feel about negotiating? Got a few arrancar already under my payroll. So how about we make a little wager? You and me. Right now. If you win, then I won't get in the way of you killing my little Nerd associate. But if I win. Then we see about you working for me?" She asked with a smirk playing across her lips.
"Of course, if you'd rather I just kill you. That's fine by me too."

What? Some dark object, a spear perhaps, had coiled around his precious Zanpakutō. Azariel was worried that he fell into some sort of trap, but given the regenerative factor he possessed, he paid little mind to even the eye of the crossguard and instead focused on trying to pry his sword off. Bad choice. The next second or so, Azariel had managed to pry his sword off – but only thanks, no thanks, to the sheer force of the redhead’s sudden burst of strength dwarfing his own as he was launched head first into a nearby building.
His legs twitched a little, waking him up from the pain as he found himself unable to move his head off. Something sharp was poking his chest – her spear! She’d managed to subdue him… this wasn’t good. Not good at all. At this rate, he couldn’t complete his mission-
What… what was she on about? Money? Yes, money… but he was indifferent to the amount. Indifferent to the worth that his arms had – as long as they had any. Her words were strange. “I… will not… lose…” He had a job to do. Failure was not an option. But her wager was at least put to the test.
Recklessly, he dropped one of his swords and grabbed the spear that she had pointing at his chest… then yanked it lower, attempting to pierce his own hip willingly! “M-My death will mean nothing… that’s why…” Willingly letting himself get pierced in the hip would allow him an opening to charge another Cero from his mouth, if he got the chance.

Brows raised slightly and she flashed a lopsided grin in response to her insistence. "Oh yea?~" She chuckled, only to perk up as he grabbed her spear and shoved it firmly into his own lower abdomen. Her good eye darting up in time to see the charge of that cero. Huh.
The blaring crackle of that energy burst was certainly dangerous to the point where on reflex, the tip of that spear would be ripped from his belly. But it didn't stop that Cero from slamming into her facefirstShe had a moment to dodge, but she knew arrancar well enough. And when the energy from that cero finally faded, She'd still be leering down at him. The flesh burned away from her skull on one side, showing the bones and muscle beneath where her skin had once been, the entire section of skin across the left side of her face and head, and more than that. the Eyepatch had been entirely burned away. And so as Khaana leered down at him, without even a mote of pain in her expression, he'd see what was lying in her socket. A pulsing black core of roiling energy. One that cracked open, and gushed an absolute mess of black shadow into the ground beneath them.
"Thats whats gonna get you in trouble buddy boy: Not being open to new experiences." She grinned. And in that moment, her own sheer fury overrode her caution.
Gaping maws and clawing hands burst from the ground in a sudden gorey mass. MAssive white frames as no less than Six enormous winged creatures surged upward from the shadows beneath them, that shadow chewing through the surrounding buildings as the creatures peeled the wall of spears and swords from the ground as they emerged, the weapons swelling in size to match their new wielders. And in the midst of them all, Khaana plunged the spear she'd been holding into her own chest, and the metal twisted and flooded into her frame, creeping along her body as it fused with her form, crawling up her neck before promptly encasing her damaged face in an armored helmet, promptly concealing the damage as that glowing eye leered down at the man.
"Lets' take you somwehere more suitable." She hissed, a crack forming across that helmet over the mouth as energy coiled behind that jagged opening, With a roar that helmet snapped open and a mouth of jagged teeth showed as she fired a burst of energy. An explosion of concussive energy rather than the burning explosiveness of a cero. Aiming to slam into the man's chest and launch him a huge bang, plowing him through a building and sending him speeding into the city outskirts, rapidly pursued by the crowd of Seraphs.

His hip… hurt. He needed to recover a bit when he’d made such a willing injury to himself, all just for an opening. However, it landed… and burned half her face away. He had tipped the scale of the battle to his favor, and he was ready to shake her off and go after his real target now. He still had time to complete his mission and prove that he was of use…
And yet… he couldn’t shake her off. She still glared at him, as if the damage to her skull was nil. The black mass gushing out of her socket made his own eyes widen, for he wasn’t dealing with a human. He was certain of that now. That energy… Hollow? Impossible! It couldn’t be – she had no visible signs of Hollowfication! What was she?
It was as if she answered his inner, confusing question with the emergence of clawing hands, teeth, and bone spiking out from the ground. Six giant creatures, white and Hollow-like in appearance, emerged and grabbed hold of the spears with the woman in the middle, herself seeming to fuse with one of the spears in a twisted convergence of energy. She was now wearing her spear like armor…
Azariel grabbed his other sword again and held both in front of him, bracing himself. She’d turned into a threat to him, a threat to his life. Should he… use his Resurrección? He probably sho-
“PFUH!!!”
That wasn’t an ordinary Cero… but it was all Azariel could conclude from what he’d seen. Was she some sort of Arranc… no, he could tell the difference by now. Yet, all of her screamed Hollow now- no, forget that! He was hit cleanly by a concussive blast of force akin to a Cero, and he found his body flying through building after building, unable to swiftly brake his tracks as those Hollow-like creatures hunted him down!
Even as he kept flying back, he sheathed both blades behind him and charged a Bala in each hand… then fired them off in succession, followed by another pair, and another, and another! In time, he sprayed a volley of Balas towards the pursuing creatures, an attempt to keep them at that distance as he was growing more and more intent to release his Resurrección…
Shouldn't he use his Gran Rey Cero instead? With its range and destructive prowess? Not yet. No, something held him back.

- Bala Ráfaga:
- Bala Ráfaga:
A variation of Bala. Azariel manifests a Bala in each hand, then fires off a volley of Bala forward by continuously manifesting Balas in each hand after firing off the last ones. In quick succession, Azariel can cover a wide range in front of him in the volley of Balas, making it difficult to avoid getting hit. However, each of these Balas is still a weaker, smaller orb of reiryoku compared to a Cero, and manifesting this many also lowers the individual power of these orbs. Their purpose is more to distract than deal lasting damage.

Khaana's eyes narrowed as she saw the arrancar going flying, thrown from the reach of the city by the attack she'd launched to send him flying. Tch. Close, but not quite. She peered at him through the helmet that kept her features obscured from the general public, and as he fired off that Volley, the bolts burst against the creatures frames, but much like Khaana, they continued to fly after him regardless. Only rather than mobbing him, they parted ways so that Khaana's form could be launched between them, flying in once that volley of Bala ended, swinging in with one of those swords as she aimed to strike him straight in his chest. But she didn't cut deep.
Instead, the blade of the weapon glowed and promptly burst, an explosive wave of energy erupting from the weapon just like that beam, a loud bang sounding through the air as she aimed to bat him downward and send him clean through the outskirts of the city and into the wilderness beyond the city reach. Far away from all the people. So that she could deal with him properly.
