Pop check-In [Rangiku, Igen]
Tue Oct 08, 2024 7:41 am
Igen had not slept well. As it turned out, the Fortification Pills kept you a little amped up. Rangiku had been the last visit for the night, but he still hadn't gotten to sleep until well after midnight. And worse? He woke up a whole three hours later. He felt....rested? He felt peppy, the result of the pills no doubt. He'd undergone the life a bit in the academy when he had been pulled aside for Kaido lessons after his aptitude had been identified. It was smaller classes than normal, and it was a course that included experiencing what it'd be like in an active conflict.
The Fortification Pills kept one energized enough that one's sleep cycle adjusted, just a couple hours and your body would be awake almost immediately, a result of the continuous digestion of the pill pumping out enough energy to wake you back up. Now feeling it was jarring. And so he got around to checking up on a few things. But well, at this hour there wasn't much to do. While Second Division and some of the combat squad where still out on culling duty or patrol, the night shift wasn't what it usually was. The night in soul society hung....eerily quiet. He occupied himself for a bit, meditating. It was a reccommendation during the training. To help clear the mind since while energizing, short rests effects from fortification pills could sometimes not be as mentally restful if you weren't used to it.
But eventually, he decided to check on a few of his patients that had been put on medical restriction. And well, first on that list was the Lieutenant. Making his way back to the woman's office, he paused at the door and gave a very quiet knock. Not loud enough to wake her up, but if she was awake, she'd hear him and know he was entering.
Stepping inside, he took a moment to look at the desk, to make sure none of the paperwork had been fiddled with since he'd left, and then to where Rangiku had been resting the night before. "Morning Lieutenant"

Rangiku was sleeping as he opened the door, but she woke up as he did so. She was a pretty light sleeper when she wasn't completely drunk. Waking up gently she pushed herself up wincing just a bit as she let out a small yawn. Almost like a kitten as she watched igen come in. She did change into her night gown that she usually wears, so she wasn't in her uniform.
"Mornin' Igen."
She spoke as she watched him. Come in. She lifted her arm above her head as she stretched out her back and shoulder blades. Pushing out her torso as she let out a long sigh.

Igen was briefly shocked as he walked in and spotted Rangiku laying across the couch in her office. NOT in the uniform that she'd been in last night, but a night gown. Wh-... did she get changed? Did she just have a night gown in her office? How often did she sleep in here?! Questions for later. "O-oh! Uhm, Good morning Lieutenant. Sorry to disturb your rest but I need to check on your ribs." He informed her. No doubt she might be a bit surprised, after all rest was important. But well, working with the second as often as he did, as important as rest was, these checkups and the like were more important. Frankly it wasn't too uncommon for a patient to be woekn up every few hours if their treatment required or if they needed tests sent out to third. But thankfully this wasn't THAT bad.
Making his way into the office and closing the door behind him, he cleared his throat, eyes on the floor as she stretched infront of him. It was certainly very different from her being in a uniform, this ..somehow felt like he was intruding a lot more. "Any discomfort?"

Rangiku finished hee stretch as she allowed herself arms to fall to her side. She took a second to cover herself so that he wouldn't have a heart attack. She did have a blanket that she usually uses for sleeping in her room. She then realized he was probably coming to check on her ribs. She winced a bit as she dropped the blanket back down before speaking to him.
"Uh just a little bit. My ribs are a bit sore but I'm pretty sure that's normal."
She spoke a bit sheepishly. Something igen probably wouldn't be used to. Especially as she's usually got an aura of confidence to her. However in her current state she wasn't in the best headspace with her injuries.

Igen couldn't help but perk up a little as he listened to the woman's report, nodding along as he made his way forward and crouched to inspect the injury site. The tone of voice definitely gave him pause and he looked up before giving her a slight chuckle. "I was really surprised to see you changed. It'd be really uncomfortable to try changing clothes with this healing. You have that much trouble sleeping in the uniform?" He asked with a light chuckle as he inspected the ribs. IT looked great! Whatever residual bruising would have been left over was handled by the energy packed into the medicine, some extra nutrition and reishi fortification to give the patient's body an extra little kick to heal a bit faster.
"It looks great! No remnant bruising, nothing looks out of place." He slipped on a glove and nodded. "Alright. I'm going to need you to adjust your arm a bit so that the ribs are in an even posture. I just need to make sure everything healed smoothly." He explained, giving her a moment to nod or shake her head. If she was fine with it, he'd gently lift her arm so that the elbow was held out sideways. Shifting the orientation of her ribs, he'd focus his reikaku, surveying the bone. He could see it before, but the slight reorientation make it nice and easy to see that there were no signs of misaligning.
"Beautiful! You should be ready to return to normal duty by noon!" He chimed with a bright smile, promptly pulling out a small pouch and setting it on the woman's desk. "These are just fortification pills. They'll get your energy basck up and will make sure you heal thoroughly. Make sure you get a bit extra to eat if you can too. With that you should be good, Lieutenant." He announced with a big smile. Pleased that now she'd be able to basically work, train, fight, whatever would be needed in the days to come. Hoooopefully just that first one. Heh.

Rangiku sat patiently throughout the examination. She didn't want to mess up anything that Igen was doing, so she made sure to follow his directions to a tee. She kept a gentle smile as she listened to him rattle off about how she was doing. Regardless of how she was, she had to get back to work eventually. She couldn't stay out for multiple days with what had happened in the gotei. However, she did think that she could spare some time to hang around the medic. Perhaps he could use a side conversation to help him through the stress.
"Thanks for the update, Igen. Ya know, I never thought I would be the one on the receiving end of your healing."
She spoke as she truly didn't think anything like this would happen to the gotei again. They were obviously prepared for things to happen, but obviously they had not been prepared enough to counter act all that happened in the Gotei. Rangiku did feel useless because of this, but she wasn't going to let it show. Afterall, she was a part of trying to make sure that the gotei didn't lose motivation. Wondering about ways she could do it, she settled on just asking the medic if he had any ideas.
"Igen, obviously morale isn't at it's high point currently. What are some things that you think I could do to help out with motivation? Especially when I am still not supposed to be doing much work."

Ah... just about good. He smiled to himself as he admired his work, then perked up as Rangiku started to speak. Frankly she was almost done, now was just a bit more downtime to make sure the bones had properly set and weren't going to reopen and shed be fine for active duty. Checking his notes, he didn't have any other patients he needed to che ck on for ..... Two hours and Forty Three Minutes. After that there'd be a steady sleight of them he'd check, or probably also assign a few seated medics from the Eigth to follow up on. That said, he tilted his head a bit at the question.
"Unfortunately I think a lot of the morale is out of our hands. Leadership will be making a lot of rough decisions. For now, the best I've been doing is making sure the officers are in the best shape they can be to do their jobs. We cant have people not up to 100%. For capability purposes. But uh... between you and me. People are also just uh... awful when theyre hiding pain." He chuckled and sighed, rubbing the side of his neck. Yea, tensions were already high enough without people trying to work through injuries.
"If I'm being honest, just uh.. be yourself? I honestly need to get some rest. Worked myself a little thin doing all this. But hey, once people see me back to my regular cheery self. Things will...you know... maybe FEEL a bit more normal. And that'll help. ...uh...some of them. Some will hate it . But ya kinda gotta do what makes the most sense." He rubbed his eyes a bit and sighed, smiling sheepishly. "Ugh. Though I should probaly...check up on a few people." He noted and paused for just a moment. Looking at Rangiku for a few long seconds before he cleared his throat.
"Now that you're all..healed. Is it alright if I ... talk to you about something? Not as your healer, but just as a friend?"

Rangiku nodded as she did owe him. She still had a few hours before she was allowed to start working again anyways. Also maybe it'll be able to get the current situation off her Mind just for a bit. She wasn't sure what it would be though. She hadn't been able to talk to Igen as a friend in a little while now. Sighing she went back to a resting position before letting him know.
"Yeah, it's the least I can do. I have to stay resting for a few more hours anyway."
She spoke as she kept her eyes on the man. She didn't want to seem like she wasn't paying attention to him. Rangiku needed to clear her mind from the situation around them. She fixed her hair so she wasn't leaning back onto it and placed it on her shoulders.

Igen nodded softly as he watched her settled back into a reclined position, certainly to be expected, not like she was going to be moving around for a couple more hours. But even so, he found himself hesitating as he remembered the last time they had talked. The advice she'd offered him. Prior to the whole... promotion celebration they had.
"I never really got a chance to tell you, its been such a hectic year with the stuff going down in Africa." He chuckled sheepishly, reaching up and rubbing the back of his neck as he found a slow sinking feeling dropping down into his chest as he realized. Oh... he'd never even got to tell her. He blinked a few times and then turned to look at her.
"I was actually kinda excited to tell you I found a girlfriend. Lady Rio Shihoin." He explained softly, but his voice didn't hold the kind of excitement that came with good news. Looking out the window, he lightly rubbed his shoulder and ler his shoulders sink slightly. "She let me know last night. That we probably just be friends. And... you know. I get it. All the stuff that's going on." He noted softly, those soft lavender eyes staring out the window. "I don't really know how to feel about it."

Rangiku listened to him confide in her. She listened to him speak as she thought about it. She was happy to hear that he had gotten a girlfriend, but she did feel bad for him since it didn't work out. Not only was it a girlfriend, but a noble? He really managed to pull that off without having that much experience? She had to admit that she was impressed with the fact that he had managed to do something like that. She wasn't sure if there was anything that she could really do to help him through this though. Usually her go to was just drinking, but she didn't think that would work in the current state of the Soul Society. Unfortunately there were bigger fish to fry than a broken heart. She thought about it for just a moment before speaking to him.
"I'm sorry that it didn't work out for you, Igen."
She spoke genuinely as she took a few more moments to compose her thoughts about it. Sure, Igen was cute but during this situation she guessed it would be hard to foster any kind of relationship like that anyway. It was probably putting a strain on people who are much farther along in their relationship than what Rio and Igen were. She wasn't entirely sure if that was true though, because they could have been really close. This situation was confusing her a little, but she couldn't let him know that.
"Maybe, if you just give her some time she'll change her mind? With all that we are going through, I'm sure emotions are running high. I wish I could offer you a drink or somethin' to help with your predicament, but we can't really do that right now. It's been awhile since I've been in any kind of relationship."
It had been awhile since she had to deal with anything similar to the man. She wasn't sure how he would handle it either. She knew that the last time she had a separation with someone she had drunk herself through a weekend, and after that she was good. However, that wasn't an option currently for him.
"Well, if you ever need to talk you can come to me. I don't mind being someone who can just listen to ya. Even if it's about your love life."
She teased a little as she allowed a smile to form on her lips. One that would hopefully be warm enough to brighten his day even a little. She wasn't sure if it would actually help him, but she wanted to try anything that she was able to do.
