Resurrection [Koga/Shura]

Against all advice, against all to the contrary, against the demands of those in charge with healing the injured, Shura had left her bed within the hospital with no intention on returning. No the look on her face was one not seen for quite some time now, a look of pure and raw anger. Anger at those fucking things that dared invade their home, Anger at those who refuse to fight, Anger at herself for failing to stop a single fucking Arrancarr.
Others might've simply seen this as a pyrrhic victory, some would see this as a sound defeat but Shura? Shura saw this as such a decisive defeat that anyone who was willing to take this defeat lying down might as well have joined the Arrancarr's. Such was the way not of the Fourth Division, but of the Eleventh Division. She had been defeated twice now, with the second being far more decisive than the first, and she wouldn't allow it to happen a third time!
Shura pushed her way past anyone in the hallway, undaunted and unphased by any words or looks as she headed directly to the room containing one Koga Habaki, the only one left in this fucking organization that would understand her motives and desires. When she got to the door she didn't knock or give any notice, instead simply pushing the door open.
"Koga Habaki, It's time we returned to the Eleventh Division."

HABAKI KOGA | STRAY DOG
Koga hated being confined to a medical bed, even more so with two defeats in one day hanging over his head. He wasn't so prideful to assume he was some unworldly threat, but the fact of the matter was this - he hadn't even put a dent in the armor of either of the people he crossed that day. That wild cat bitch did a number on him, and then that bastard in a suit trampled on the remnants of his pride a second time. His body was healing up well thanks to Kaminari.
He'd have to thank her for that one day. Without her, he'd likely be on a one-way trip to... where did a Shinigami even go after they died? Whatever. He didn't have time to think about that. Rising from his bed, dressing within his familiar robes, he turned his head to the side as he heard and saw Shura step through the door. Brash and direct as always. Heh, that's the same Shura he remembered back in the old days. Of course, he tilted his head quizzically as he blinked, as if her words were akin to a second language. What the hell was she talking about?
"What the fuck does that even mean?"

Seeing Koga getting out of bed and dressing gave her a small reason to grin, admittedly a small part of her had expected him to still be wallowing within his bed. But of course... That wasn't the way of the 11th. His response however did illicit a raised eyebrow "You know damn well what I mean Koga." She closed the door behind her and walked in further until she was only a few feet from Koga "We witnessed first hand the frailty of this Gotei, of what happens when things are consolidated. We weren't just defeated today, you should be well aware of this. The training, discipline, and 'strength' of this Gotei are pathetic."
Of course... The quizzical look in Koga's eye told her that he likely still wasn't sure what exactly she meant "You remember how Zaraki trained us, don't you?" She asked as she made her way towards the window, leaning against the frame of it and staring out into the destroyed remains of the Seireitei "If any of us were caught slacking in any way he ensured we learned a lesson from it in the only way the Eleventh Division could, but look around at what has become of the Seireitei. When the Eleventh Division existed, this kind of devastation, this kind of invasion, would've been met with a force so titanic that it would crumble before even getting a foothold inside of the Seireitei."
Shura then turned to look back at Koga "I am convinced now, more than ever before, that we are being held back. For the longest time my Zanpakuto would not speak to me except to demand I use Bankai or something similar, I toiled day in and day out trying to figure out why... but now I know. I've spoken with Kuchiki-dono about this and he told me 'How can you claim anything resembling pride or strength when your behavior is that of a child dependent on the strength of others to keep you sustained'. When I was in the 11th, I was dependent on only myself, attained Bankai so that I would have the strength to protect my Brother. But you saw how I performed against that Arrancarr... A pitiful, shameful display, a display that if we were in the 11th would get me beaten down by Zaraki the moment I recovered. This is what I mean when I say it is time to return to the 11th Division. We both were handed a defeat more embarrassing than anything we'd ever experienced before. You and Me, Koga, are going to train like we are in the Eleventh."
She gave a few moments pause, to allow Koga to respond before she continued "Ever since my meeting with Kuchiki-dono, I have been thinking about my Zanpakuto and its reasoning for not speaking to me. Before attaining my Bankai I was reliant entirely on my own strength, I saw no reason to attain a Bankai because I saw it as a pointless thing that would not increase my power beyond what it already was, but after attaining it I came to rely on it. I've said in the past that a Shinigami's Bankai is the single strongest thing a Shinigami can ever have, that it was superior to everything else in every measurable way. But that line of thinking, without thought to anything else, has led me to become reliant on it. But I see another way forward, one that retains that same line of thinking and a way to prove this beyond what anyone else can say to the contrary. There's a reason my Zanpakuto continues to tell me to use Bankai and that being the only thing it says, and after this defeat I am convinced that there is more to our Bankai's than we are led to believe."
Shura took a breathe before she continued "Even without Bankai, you were enough of a threat to that Arrancarr that she couldn't simply ignore you. If we had both had Bankai, she would have been a joke when compared to us even in her release. Tell me Koga, Do you believe you could surpass Zaraki Kenpachi? Kuchiki-Dono? What about Sotaicho Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto himself?" She paused here, staring directly at Koga with a look that showed clearly that she was not saying these things as a joke but earnestly asking him if he thought he could.
Once he'd given his answer she would continue to speak "Because I believe we all can. Zaraki Kenpachi was an almost unmatched Swordsman, with Strength enough to shatter Bankai's and Speed enough to keep up even with a skilled Shunpo, all without even knowing his Zanpakuto's name. Kuchiki-dono's Bankai is known as both the Ultimate Offense and the Ultimate Defense, capable of both attack and defense all at the same time, all while being one of the most skilled users of Kido. Sotaicho Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto himself was the pinnacle of what it means to be a Shinigami, unmatched in Strength, Speed, Hakuda, Kido, Shunpo, everything. Yet look at the Shinigami of this generation, at ourselves. If we compared what exists now to what existed in the Gotei 13, this Invasion should've been the easiest most pathetic attempt to take on the Shinigami in history... Yet in spite of everyone being stronger than the same people who were once holding those same positions, we were defeated so resoundly that whatever Ichigo Kurosaki's goal was he likely accomplished it. But I believe it is because of a lack of discipline, My strength alone dwarfs that of former Lieutenants yet even with that strength I could not defeat a single Arrancarr. Even when utilizing Kido it was simply not enough. But there was something else I noticed afterwards, a certain buzz in the air."
She waited a few moments, to see if Koga realized what she was talking about or not "My Zanpakuto was stirring, Koga, It was watching that fight with more intensity than I've seen from it in over a hundred years. I came here first because you of all people will understand the thrill of battle, the thrill of fighting something so titanic that your body can't help but want to continue that fight. For all the disdain I have towards that Arrancarr, she reminded me a lot of Zaraki and his approach to battle... and it reminded me of what it meant to be in the Eleventh Division. We need to train Koga, we need to train not just to unlock your Bankai, but to raise it to such a point that the next time that bitch arrives just one of us will be able to annihilate her before she can even grab her Zanpakuto."

HABAKI KOGA | STRAY DOG
"Holy shit lady. Talk about information overload. Sheesh."
Admittedly, Koga only followed half of what Shura said, but at the heart of the conversation, he understood the notion she attempted to convey. Quite simply, they all needed to grow stronger. Nothing about them resembled the brutality and ferocity they displayed in the past. There were a few flaws in her discourse, but she wasn't entirely wrong, either.
The wild arrancar who overwhelmed them didn't show them the slightest hint of mercy. She was brutal. She was monstrous. Much like the eleventh division of the past, when called to battle, they handled business. Reflecting on it now, Koga acknowledged that there was more he needed to do before he could enter the battlefield again. His zanpakuto wasn't so kind, after all.
Part of him was beginning to wonder whether or not the Shikai he used now was the real thing or if this was all some sick joke at his expense. Seriously, the more he thought about his defeats, the more pissed he got. Slamming his fist against the wall, he growled as he nodded along to what she said.
Fuck it. He was going to get to the route of all this shit and train his ass off. She was right. Even if the eleventh they knew no longer existed, they could at least carry on the spirit! Zaraki-Taichou wouldn't give him a minute to think about some stupid shit like this.
"Anyway... hell no. I don't think I could surpass any of those guys right now. Hell, I couldn't even hold a candle to you out there, and it pisses me off. I thought about it, ya know... what Zaraki have thought of our display out there... and it pissed me off."
He'd lean against a wall as he crossed his arms, his expression growing even more disdainful. He could accept many things, but inaction wasn't one of them. Lifting his zanpakuto, he exhaled softly as he turned to face her. She wanted to train? Fine, but first... he'd need to address a few things.
"We can train until we fuckin' die, but... first things first. Before I can think of Bankai, I'm gonna need a moment to see what's up with my zanpakuto. There's no shot in hell a shitty propulsion hammer is the extent of what my soul can create. I want to destroy shit. I want to murder those bastards when they come back around and finish the job. I want to show them the same violence they showed us."

Shura was, admittedly, not really known for being this talkative in the past, it was something of a new trend with her lately though who knew how long it'd last. It also didn't surprise her that Koga didn't think he could surpass any of the former that she mentioned, but she too thought that once upon a time... It was a devastating thing for her back when she was weaker, when she had first joined the Gotei 13. But now? Now she saw things far more clearly, so clearly that she knew beyond a shadow of a doubt it was possible.
Shura smiled towards Koga though, the first genuine smile she'd had in quite a long time. She gave him a nod when he spoke of needing to figure out what was up with his Zanpakuto, it was a notion she was intimately familiar with herself. This was the Koga she remembered, one filled with such fiery passion and determination that when he set himself to something... He achieved it. "Of course, and there's another I intend on bringing along, another from your division, Ranma Gekiretsu. I've fought against him, and he shows not only the same level of passion as was shown in the Eleventh, but he also has the potential to become one of the strongest Soldier's for the Gotei. His Shikai in its infancy allowed him to keep up with my speed, it was beyond just impressive... And I can only imagine how terrifying he'll become once he achieves Bankai and learns how to properly utilize it. Hell, it might even be enough to make Zaraki come out of hiding."
The last part was mostly a joke, to be honest, but at the same time... She secretly hoped it'd happen, if he'd been on that battlefield... The amount of Arrancarr brought would've been significantly insufficient to prove any amount of threat. Alas she didn't know where he was, or if/when he'd actually show back up. "And if you can think of anyone else who should be trained, be sure to bring them as well. We'll need all the people we can get if we want to force them out the next time they show up."
There were so many things that Shura wanted to do... yet she was still limited by her capabilities, both in her own squad and as a whole. She knew Kanae wouldn't let her do this even if she asked and explained why she was doing it in the first place, that was why she was going to do all of this without telling her. She would tell only those that needed to know, which limited it to only those who would be participating in this training. They needed more than just Bankai, she knew that... yet that was merely the first step in a long line of things this training would bring about.

HABAKI KOGA | STRAY DOG
"Oh, shit. We're bringing Ranma along, too?"
Koga certainly welcomed his presence in a time like this. He'd formed a great bond with that man recently. Come to think of it, he hadn't found a moment to train with Ranma to any real degree other than a light spar. He'd need to correct that real soon. His fist tightened around his blade as he gritted his teeth. Shura knew how to light a flame under his ass, huh?
He could already feel a burning sense of competitive rage flowing through his soul. There were people he needed to fight for and pride he needed to reclaim. For now, it was time to prepare himself for the promised day. Grinning from ear to ear, he'd tap his hand against her back firmly. Walking past her, he'd wave his hand.
"If I can think of anyone else, I'll throw an offer out there. For now, I've got my own business to handle. See ya soon, Shura. Let's work on bringing back that eleventh-division spirit, shall we?"
With that, his mind was set. He needed to address his zanpakuto and get to the bottom of shit soon.
