Late Pickings [Ella/Edelo]

Engaging location.
Another catastrophe had taken place a mere night prior. All efforts and talks to deploy this unit were done swiftly with little hesitation. Papa had already gotten onto gathering information of the victim's possible working partners; there was room to assume this crime and the one against their own men were connected, but there would only be certainty if eyes were laid upon the scene. Amongst the crowd in the car, the only she was specifically instructed to partner with was this young man she sat next to - his eyes looked bright, a strange expression amongst a stuffy room of serious faces.
The last time she was partnered with someone, she had been left behind. The look on Papa's face made her heart sink, she hated that face - the look of disappointment. Though she hated being away from her usual duties, delivering mail and optimizing packaging routes, Papa needed her eyes and ears on something this important. She couldn't disappoint him again.
The mansion was a large location, normally they wouldn't have so many investigative bodies on the team but they needed to gather as much information as possible in as short of a time they could manage; another attack could be right around the corner.
Her pale eyes would catch sunlight as the van was opened, and the lot of them were lined up, briefed by the team leader as she'd stand, strangely close to Edelo, those sleepy eyes staring ahead to the tarnished structure.

He honestly couldn't help the bright and alert look on his face. An investigation into a series of murders. Not exactly what he'd expected to be set on his plate given how often he was provided such instruction, and so there was no shortage of amped energy as he looked out the window, only briefly glancing around at the others in the van, occassionally noticing the look offered from Ella, and offering a bright, friendly smile and nod in her direction whenever he noticed her looking his way.
But well, there wouldn't be time for any chat, not that he was sure it'd be appropriate.
When the van door slid open and he slipped out into the cool air, he let out a soft sigh as he saw the place. And as it were, it didn't really take much of anything to see evidence all over the damn place. SMoldering wrecks that had once been cars absolutely littered the area outside the mansion. A few seemed to have been intentionally blown up, and parts were strewn all over the place. "Oh boy..." A sigh escaped Edelo's face as he furrowed his brows and his eyes focused, a contraction of his pupils as he let his fullbring activate.
Well. There was no doubt what did it. There hadn't been much restraint. Spiritual energy was all over the place. And not just thos esubtle faint traces from someone just being in the area. There was decent ammount of the Arrancar's energy scattered about. Nothing very concentrated, it wasn't like the arrancar had been shitting energy around with ceros or anything. But there was still a very diffuse spread of fine spirit energy through the area. He wasn't sure what it was, but they'd certainly used something that resulted in a blanket to the area. A few investigators were going through the rubble and were placing markers. Seemed there hadn't been anyone caught in the blasts. But a few bodies had been found in the area. A glance toward them told him what a few of the forensics where still figuring out.
Acute trauma. Looking through their clammy flesh with those eyes of his, he could see their fractured bones, the ruptured tissue where theyd been struck, and the dark scores of heavy bruising where theyd been hit before they died. Pretty aggressive as it were.
"Don't suppose there's been work done on what blew up the cars?" He ventured to the operatives on the scene, turning and gesturing for Ella to follow as he made his way towards the ones that were close to the door itself. His eyes sweeping the area as he did so, looking for anything out of place that might be of interest. Well, other than the exploded vehicles and the busted in door.

It seemed local enforcement followed those firmly-worded recommendations; the area was confidently blockaded, the site of the travesty left intact down to even the bodies. There was only one known survivor as per the briefing's details, a young boy that was found on the premises with a shattered limb as well as other extensive damages from being flung from a higher story; he was currently in critical condition. She wondered, how tragic it was to lose your family in one night... Not that she could dwell on the feeling very extensively. She supposed it would be like if Papa were somehow killed, but that was an unimaginable scenario.
Her attention was drawn toward Edelo's venturing to explore the destroyed cars, various agents fanning out to investigate the area; some made their way inside, some remained outside. Her footsteps were oddly hurried, with a determined glint to her eyes as to keep up with him. She herself had taken to looking carefully at a combusted vehicle, peering closely at it; her horns itched, the place was teeming with spiritual energy interacting with her frequency. Something was strange about how they were burnt...
"Negative. We have only just arrived on the scene," She'd respond promptly to Edelo's query, "Law enforcement were strongly advised to preserve the scene. They followed that advice soundly."

Edelo nodded softly, pausing when he noticed how closely she was following him. But decided not to think about it too much. If the Todgestalen higher ups sent her here, then uh... surely she was qualified right? It was eerie to see a young girl in a situation like this, but he kept his emotions in check for the time being, kinda had to for now.
"Seems someone used their abilities to blow these up. An arrancar at that... " He furrowed his brows a bit. He coudl still see it. The thin strands of spirit ribbons, the faint remnanty of the energy of those that had been here. There was the traces of shinigami spirit energy, but only traces. At least out HERE, it didn't seem like they had let loose. No, the Arrancar's energy was what was saturating the place. "An arrancar and a Shinigami." He murmured very quietly. His mind flashing back to the Stella Bauer abduction case. Was the same shinigami that perpetrated that incident do something here?
The idea of MULTIPLE violent shinigami on the loose didn't really stand as a preferable alternative, but well, he couldn't close his mind off to that possibility. The Arrancar was more common. Inexperienced spirituals might mistake it for hollow energy, or people just not that good at sensing or otherwise interacting with it. But well, thanks to the Africa incident, he'd gotten much more familiar with the subtleties. With his oqn unique fullbring, he was able to sense that energy not just by his reikaku, but by seeing it when he focused on it. It definitely LOOKED a lot like Hollow energy, but there was still a notable difference.
But well. Just knowing it was an arrancar didn't help. Just WHO was the arrancar helping this shinigami? The first thing that came to mind was the attack on the HRE Emperor. Two arrancar had been a part of that attack. Not to mention the attack on the city of lights. He didn't have any experience with the attack on the Emperor, but he DID have experience with Kurosaki's energy. He'd felt AND seen that residue throughout one particular section of the city for months. Even now, he could feel tiny traces of it still. Heck, some of the Inherital quincy victims from the incident still suffered negative effects from it. Most Notable, one of the Sternritter that had engaged with Kurosaki had lost her powers from it, almost died. MAde him wonder what his own energy felt like to others...
"Doesn't look like your normal bala or cero damage. That kinda thing would have just blown through the cars, It looks more like the cars themselves blew up." He gestured to some of the wreckage, close to where the center of the explosion was. "Theres not a ton, but most of the residual energy is here." He gestured to a warped Tire. "A lot of it is on the inside of the wheel here. So whatever they did, was done to the back of the car. Maybe they shot something into the trunk or the backseat..." He murmured softly.
He stood back up and looked out across the wrecks. A few other cars had been damaged, but this was ... subtle. A Cero would have just obliterated most of the cars. But instead they had just...blown up normally. What the heck did the arrancar do to them? He'd have to take more consideration into that later.
Turning to Ella, he waited until she looked his way to get her attention. "Cmon. Let's head inside to the rest of the mansion." He urged. Clearly he had no intention of just leaving her around. No matter how qualified, she was a kid, and so Edelo felt a bit of ...protectiveness. He'd make sure she didn't leave his sight. So that meant they were heading inside. He had heard about the survivor, but well..he didn't have high hopes. A witness was good, but they were young. Worse, they were in bad condition, they may not remember the incident, or not want to talk about it. They couldn't rely on that witness as a source of information. They'd need to lean heavily on what they could garner from the scene.
He spotted a few people loitering uncomfortably near the entrance, and he spotted some mess on the lawn.
Vomit.
Seemed at least a few of the first responders had thrown up. So whatever was inside, may very well be a bit of a mess.
He glanced a bit uncertainly at Ella. He'd keep an eye on her, in case she started to seem ill.

Her silver eyes were discerning, a gloved hand gently moving to grasp something from her pocket: a microfiber cloth. Gently and carefully, she'd rub it against the most burnt portion of the car, a localized area to sample. Strangely, she brought it up to her face, and sniffed it gently - there was a strange smell to it, abnormal to simply ignited fire, but that was for the lab to test. That small cloth would get folded and promptly placed into a plastic bag, stashed in her satchel.
Head lifting to look to the young man she was accompanying, his reasoning seemed to align with what she was garnering; though it wasn't satisfying enough, "Inspect carefully. The manner of which the vehicle's destruction has taken shape is not indicative of being shot. It is more..."
She observed the shape carefully, the warped metal, the melted structure... A simple shot to the back wouldn't cause this, "...Cero do not cause damage like this. Sustained high temperatures, however..."
Their mystery assailant definitely had some manner of fire manipulation, but she wasn't too certain as to the nature of it yet. Quickly, she'd tap alongside Edelo as he had pivoted to going inside- Ah, one of the detectives had a weak stomach. Papa instructed her to give support in the event of such a thing, even if they were highly qualified some sights were simply too much for some people at certain points. Without having Edelo leave her sight line, she'd approach the ill operative with water, a napkin, and stomach medicine. There were bodies at the door, but she'd leave it to the operatives present.
The scene inside, with some of the cooler headed operatives already breaking up tasks or ushering others to get over it and do their jobs. What was once the family manor of the Giordanos, was nothing more than a burnt husk with a swarm of dead bodies. Calmly walking to the nearest corpse, seemingly unbothered by her surroundings, she'd give it a good close look.
"The Hollow certainly did not slay them," Her flat tone spoke to Edelo, "Though burned, their bodies are mired in lacerations and broken bones."

Edelo raised a brow slightly as he watched the girl collecting information as well. Taking a sample, and seeming to come to her own conclusions about the situation. He couldn't help but wonder what made her like this. Questions for later.
All the same, as they made their way into the interior of the manor, he took a brief moment to glance at Ella as they began to look through the number of corpses around. And....boy where there a whole lot of them. A slight look of disdain showed on his face as he noticed the bodies, as well as the ...fire damage? He was briefly a bit confused. He expected things to be more like it was outside, with the carnage being the focal point of the fire. But no, the fire damage was...random. Sections of the carpets and drapes were burned, but not entirely. As if someone had lit them on fire, and then doused them.
He carefully made his way through the spot and his eyes snared on the trickle of crimson energy. Shinigami energy. Not just residue, but from this point on, it was thicker. One of the bodies had burns along their chest, another was a man with stab wounds littering his body, and there was energy all over him. A Zanpaku'to? Most of it was concentrated on some of the wounds and as he made his way over to the stab victim, he noticed something else as well. Burns. But not just any burns. An almost weblike pattern. Burns made from arcing.
"A Zanpaku'to. And a release at that." He murmured. He didn't actually know much about shinigami blade releases. Other than that when they had been used in the Arena, they gave off way more spiritual energy and didn't quite have the same look to it as Kido residue. He kinda wished he had quincy skills, they were much better at telling the fine details of energy they could sense. But well, he had the ability to more accurately see how it was distributed. Speaking of...
His attention shifted toward a path. They hadn't sealed their weapon. There was a thicker residue than before. Much more than just the trace. But it was forked. There was a path leading up to the second floor. But it also branched off to the side. Well that only made sense. They would have had to exit the mansion unless they planned on jumping out the window. However, it didn't head outside.
He furrowed his brows as he took a moment and focused. A slight glow burning into his pupils as he tuned his eyes. Focusing specifically on just the spirit energy, as the actual physical world became a bit blurry. Eyeing the trail, and following it ... to the fireplace? He was quiet for a few seconds before his eyes relaxed and he looked around for a moment. Plenty of people were upstairs and down here. But the fireplace itself had been untouched. "Ella....mind coming with me?" He spoke up, gently so that he wouldn't just talk over whoever she might be speaking to.
Making his way over to the fireplace, he furrowed his brows and focused. The spot peeled open as he promptly began looking THROUGH the layers. Peering through solid stone and metal and wood, and pausing as he noticed the mechanism inside of the structure itself. Following the mechanism up to an ornament ontop of the fireplace.
Click.
With a gentle lift, the fireplace promptly shifted, and before he knew it, a tunnel opened up infront of him that led down into the depths of the mansion itself. But well, his eyes already were peering in. Bodies.... MUCH more spirit energy, and then... finally.
The pulse of a spiritual pressure. Nothing gifted. But a PERSON that was alive.
IN an instant his hand snapped to his hip and he pulled a flashlight from his hip and snapped it on. Speaking briskly to one of the nearby investigators. "Get the Paramedics NOW! We have another survivor!" He snapped as he promptly strode into the tunnel itself with Ella in his wake. He wasn't interested in the corpses, or the damage from the fight that had happened down there. Whoerver was down there felt faint. And he intended on getting them the hell out of there, Alive.

Ella lingered in the room, taking careful eyefuls of every little point of interest within the room; she would have to create a full panel of notes and evidences when they returned to the city. More time taken from her primary calling... But that was fine; the culminating of and exchange of information alone still fulfilled the primal urges, Papa knew this well. She looked upon a multitude of victims, inspected many a piece of strange burnt furniture; analysis told her that it most certainly was two perpetrators - an active one, and a passive one. The Shinigami appeared to be the active one, killing guards and other patrons, while the Hollow was in passive support of them. It wasn't her place to speculate terribly; she was just to gather this information with her senses.
She ceased her wandering of the room when the young man called her name; looking upon him with an expression one could call 'calm offense', "Ms. Holsen," She'd murmur a correction under her breath; these newer candidates were too casual and friendly for what she was used to, they cry the hardest and break the fastest amidst tragedy. Papa always tells her not to worry of them, though she held more annoyance than concern - why join this cause if you couldn't handle it?
At least he was being useful, likely peering through the walls - that was in fact why Papa brought him on to do this. Places such as this had all sorts of secret compartments or hidden rooms, one with the ability to see past the facade was vital, though one with the literal ability to peer through only expedited efforts.
Oh.
Her footsteps carried her down, past Edelo's exclamation to one of the investigators, and into the lower room. Though that familiar sensation crept along her horns, of a spiritual pressure existing down here, there was that particular sensation that told her something else. It smelled of bloodshed and violence, and...
"Mr. Nakir," Her flat voice carried up the path, looking up at him if he were to come after her, a pointed finger gesturing to the dark room, "There are no survivors."

Edelo was a bit startled when Ella wound up darting past him. "Hey! Wait!" He hissed out, sighing a bit as she managed to get ahead of him. He sprinted after her and then paused as they came to the end of the tunnel itself and she pointed ahead. He paused, blinking a few times as at a closer distance, he was able to make things out a bit more. His brows knitting together as he focused on the spiritual pressure. In the heat of the moment, he'd mistaken it for a living person, and he internally kicked himself in the shin for the mistake. But even so, he furrowed his brows a bit as he and Ella walked up to the threshold of the room itself and paused there at the scene they walked in on.
A young woman, blonde,
"You motherFUCKERS! I've been down here for fucking EVER! About damn time you found me. Get me the HELL out of here!"
It was a plus. Trembling slightly as she got up and promptly looked peeved, but still some small glimmer of relief that she was going to be let out. She'd been stuck in this place for some time it seemed. Next to her own corpse, tied to an older man. A gory example of the work that had been done by the pair that had done all of this. Edelo wrinkled his nose for a moment and looked over his shoulder. A few more corpses had been passed on the way in. "A plus? Just how many..." His voice trailed as he turned an promptly peered up through the house, sweeping through the entire mansion, before his pupils locked and he found himself peering up at a small group of investigators arguing with another spirit. One that looked a lot like the one in front of them.
"...TWO pluses." He murmured softly. Well, that was ... auspicious. Though the one down there with them perked up at that. "Uh HELLO, Me! Get me. The Fuck. OUT of here?" She promptly hissed! peering over Ella and Edelo to see if the tunnel path was clear or not. Edelo paused for a moment and peered. The woman's chain of fate didn't seem attached to anything. Nothing that could be seen at least. They'd have to delve more into that later.
"We should get these two into custody." He murmured, turning just as a small gaggle of other investigators and the paramedics showed up. Ugh, right. "If you'd be so kind Miss. We'll be taking you outside." His gaze shifted over to Ella, curious to see if she was still examining the scene down here. A vcursory look told him plenty though. Sensitive to spiritual residue, he could see pretty clearly how the fight in the tunnel had gone. And well. The upside down string of the bound father and daughter wasn't hard to miss. Though he did pause to note how sturdy the bindings were. Hm.

"Wait."
A hand extended in front of Edelo, the shorter woman looking up at him with a rather neutral expression, studying his own gaze carefully, "Refrain from moving them from their place of death. It is possible their corrosion may be aggravated."
Her eyes were fixed on the chain now jutting out of the woman's chest, as she'd cautiously walk forward. The chewing didn't appear to have started quite yet, but from what her Papa taught her... It could begin anywhere from mere days after death, to decades. What may or may not aggravate the process is not well known yet, it was too large a risk to attempt to move them, "Let us question them here."
The monochrome girl would approach the Plus, with a degree of caution one would with a stray dog, stopping a mere few feet away before opening the questioning, "Explain; what were the circumstances of your death?"

Re: Late Pickings [Ella/Edelo]

Edelo blinked as the hand bumped into his chest and he looked between Ella and the scene infront of them. He had to pause and refocus for just a moment before promptly kicking himself internally. Ah... right. It wasn't a living soul he'd spotted. It was just a soul. His eyes drifted to the two corpses and he clenched his teeth for a moment at the manner in which they had died. The young woman had had her throat slit, and the older man... well. He seemed to have simply died of shock perhaps? His eyes scanned the man's frame. Abrasions, small fractures. But he couldn't really tell what had been the cause of death, he wasn't a doctor and there was nothing particularly obvious. A sigh escaped him and he turned to watch Ella engage with the plus.
"What, are you fucking dense? You can't SEE my goddamn DEAD body hanging three feet infront of you?! Why am I talking to some fucking preschooler? Give me your goddamn supervisor or .. lead....cop...whatever, NOW! Those BITCHES. I swear I'll fucking kill them both if its the last goddamn thing I do!" She spectre hissed! Ice creeping along the floor as her spiritual energy flared slightly.
Edelo's brows raised for a moment and he gently tapped Ella's shoulder and nodded backward, indicating that they should take a few steps back from the plus and speak privately. Once Ella complied, Edelo would sigh. "She's wound up. And well, if we don't know whats going to piss her off, we may need to be a bit more.....accommodating. The other one seems a lot calmer..." HE glanced up, peering through the mansion at the ghost that was up on the second floor. They seemed more distressed than angry.
"Why don't you head up top? They might be able to give more thorough information you're looking for. I'll stay down here and talk this one down see if we can get anything from her." He sighed heavily. They were going to complicate the actions of the forensics team. Who probably wanted to retreive the bodies and perform tests. Hopefully with a bit of coaxingf, they could......ease or distract them long enough for their bodies to be taken and processed.
And well, they'd take things from there.
