Psychological Analysis
Kalama is a sadistic and bloodlust craving individual who feels as though she’s somewhat of a woman from another time. The old days were where the fun was, where she could quite happily kill anyone she wished because that was what her job was. There were no rules, no red tape, no boundaries stopping her from carrying out her beloved work. Even now, after a millennia or more, she still craves for those times again although she’s somewhat been able to satisfy herself with the wars of the human world. She’s at her happiest on the battlefield or when delivering that fatal thrust to her target. Still very much with the assassin mindset that has been instilled in her, there’s no lengths to what she’ll do in order to succeed in her task and no remorse felt afterwards either. The old hatreds burn fiercely within her and Kalama still bears a great deal of hatred towards those who she once fought, to a degree that she will gladly attack a Quincy or Hollow first and without much provocation if she’s in the mood. That being said, she may make a rare exception if they stir something else within her, resulting in her trying to nail them in a different way. She’s a woman who seeks domination, whether that be through violence or binding them to a bed and having her fun.
It’s difficult to become friends with her in general, as she can be as blunt and vulgar with her words as she is with her actions but it’s not an impossible task if there are similar traits or opinions to be found. Those prone to the same impulses or chaos and destruction generally get on quite well with her. She’s spent the past god knows how long in the company of the seediest scum of criminal underground and most corrupt of politicians, which has only furthered her hatred towards law and order.
RELATIONSHIPS
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
There was so much more violence back then and for a young girl who’d already spent the better part of her life defending herself from all comers, Kalama had become rather used to it. Her parents were useless fuckers, unable to take care of themselves, let alone her and from an early age, she’d had to learn pretty quickly. She couldn’t remember how many times she’d been stabbed, slashed, clubbed, punched and kicked during her childhood but she remembered every moment of revenge each time. Kalama never forgot those who wronged her and that was a trait that would be carried with her forever. By the time she was a grown woman, the green haired woman already had a list of kills that would make a hardened mercenary piss their pants, most of which had been caused by her fists and feet alone. She was a deadly weapon, forged by her constant need to fight and the never ending struggle to survive.
Her family ended up dead naturally, having fallen prey to one of the clans that called the rukongai home. Kalama felt nothing towards them and rather than bury them, she simply spat on their corpses, before turning away in disgust. Yet, despite that, she still felt a need to deliver revenge, not for them but for the weakness that they’d forced upon her by falling in such a pathetic way. She could not handle the stain that their fate had placed upon her name and so Kalama did what she always did. Hunted them down and delivered her sweet and bloody revenge.
Even by her standards, it was horrific and by the time she was finished, there was barely anything left of the men who’d once been members of the so-called most powerful clan in the district. It’d been completely destroyed by just one woman, who’d become so enveloped in her own lust for blood that she didn’t stop until long after the fight had come to an end. The building looked like a bomb had hit it and in a way, it had. Kalama, while battered and bruised, didn’t leave a single hair of a survivor.
It was as Kalama left the building and headed away that she came across a rather large figure, one who stood about a foot and a half taller than her. He gave off an energy that she’d never come across before but rather than take the simple path and walk away or try to pacify him, Kalama did what she always did, attacking him, her eyes wide with bloodlust still. The fight was brief and he gave her an almighty beating, ploughing her into the ground and striking far greater than anyone had before. His fists felt like tree trunks being slammed against her ribs and soon enough, she was helpless before him although the fire in her eyes was still alive and kicking.
She expected death but rather than be granted with it, he would instead smile and haul her up to her feet, before offering her a choice. Death or the chance to become more than she was. He offered her power, in exchange for her services and for the first time in her life, Kalama actually agreed to become a follower, rather than the lead. Submission was unnatural to her and the look in her eyes would tell him exactly what she thought of the idea but he simply kept smiling, nodding his head with approval.
From that day on, she’d learn from him, fighting alongside him as he carved through the scum of the rukongai. He was brutal, as she was and his training was equally so. Beatings were constantly delivered to her for the slightest failure, whether it by fists, his blade or the magic that he wielded. Each one was as effective as the others had caused her great pain but rather than submit, she’d constantly fight back against the mental leash that he had on her. Still, what she gained from the torture was more than enough, as he opened her mind to sources of strength that she’d never imagined. She took a Zanpakuto from the corpse of a fallen Shinigami, claiming it as her own and forcing her will upon it. He said nothing in response to it, other than that the fool who died was weak and that the blade was better off in her hands.
Weeks passed into months and months passed into years, with the two continuing on their bloody path. Kalama’s powers grew by the day, not only in zanjutsu but the other arts as well. While extreme, her mentor’s teaching were awfully precise, leaving no stone unturned as he taught what it meant to be a Shinigami. He taught her a new level of violence and as time grew, she forgot all about the fact that she was subservient to him. All she cared about was power and doing whatever was necessary to acquire more.
When she was ready, he would have her meet others of their kind, all monsters in terms of spiritual pressure and each once with a look that could kill. It was the greatest of pressure cookers but she thrived, devouring any and all knowledge that came to her. They were all brutal killers, just as she was and for the first time, she actually felt at home, as warped as it may have seemed. She was happy among them and while none of them could be considered friendly, Kalama was certain that over time, she would earn their respect.
It was glorious to fight among them and even though she’d been given the role of assassin, which had seemed appropriate due to her martial prowess and swiftness of foot, Kalama was far more aggressive than most. She took a sick pleasure out of her work that others didn’t seem to and her purple eyes seemed to blaze with joy as she dominated those weaker than her. Her effectiveness was never in question but her mentality sometimes was.
At first, she was simply sent out to defeat Hollows and members of the Rukongai who were causing chaos but as time wore on, a new enemy rose. They looked like regular men and women but wielded bows and dressed in white. Quincy. The reasons why her superiors were so eager to kill them was somewhat lost on Kalama but it mattered not. They were the enemy and that was all that she cared about. She got involved right from the start and the absolute chaos of war was unlike she’d seen before. She revelled in it.
Combat brought out the best in her and as the war went on, she’d gain a new level of strength, her relationship with her Zanpakuto would blossom, granting her Shikai. It was simply superb and with it, she’d unleash a new level of agony against the Quincy scum. It was such an amazing and simple tool, one that she simply loved, with a power that suited the sadistic woman to the core. A stun here, a kido spell there, followed by a brutal strike with her hakuda. She was becoming one with her powers, her mind opening to the thought of combining them all together.
It was a great time to be alive and a period that she would dream over for eternity. Such fun and endless opponents for her to test out her growing powers on. She grew so much during that time, her speed reaching ridiculous levels as she flew around the battlefield, moving so quickly that Kalama was able to quite comfortably catch her opponents off guard. Before delivering the lethal and sickening blow. Kalama loved war. That was simply the case and no matter how many beating she took, no matter how many wounds. She kept coming, as she always did. There was no mercy or restraint and while her name was never at the forefront of her superiors' minds, those who fought by her side would not forget her name.
The end of the war was probably the worst day of her life in some ways. The enemy commander was defeated and that was the end of it. She was distraught and what was worse was the reaction that it seemed to have in those she fought with. Her comrades seemed to become tired, jaded about the idea of any more combat and while Kalama’s fire still burned, theirs didn’t. It was horrifying and was unfortunately just the start of a long term trend. The focus of most seemed to be towards the rebuilding and defence of the Shinigami lands rather than the pursuit of enemies. It was soft talk, talk that made her sick to her stomach and as time passed, she began to have more fallings out with other Shinigami.
It was bound to come to a head and so one day she went to her mentor, the man who had introduced her to the Shinigami in the first place. She pleaded with him, begged him, threatened him but he, like so many others, had been jaded by his experiences. He tried to convince her to cool her temper and to settle into this new stage of Shinigami life but Kalama refused. It resulted in combat, where master and student finally came full circle and unlike their first confrontation, the result wasn’t the same. Using everything she’d learned, Kalama killed him, forcing her knife shaped zanpakuto through his back, straight through his most vital organ. A blast of lightning and it was all over, his body collapsing to the floor…
Yet, as he died, a smile crossed his features, knowing that he had trained her well enough to face the challenges that would face her. There were no final words, just one last nod, before he passed away.
Scowling at his body, Kalama would take two steps back, before unleashing a battle cry so loud that it could have been heard a mile away.
With that, she would shunpo away, leaving behind a clone of herself that would explode, destroying the remains of her mentor. No traces. He’d taught her that.
Uncertain for the first time in years, Kalama would leave the Gotei without a word, disappearing from the spiritual world to find a new home amongst the living. She’d blend in as best she could with the changing eras but the yearning for violence never stopped and so soon enough, the woman was drawn back into the world of war. It didn’t matter which side she fought for, who represented what, all that mattered was that she could fight and that was exactly what she did for centuries, fighting on every continent more times than she could count.
When there was no war, she’d work for those amongst the criminal world, taking on jobs where her formidable skills would no doubt be valued. She became a valued asset in the portfolios of many crooks but funnily enough, none of the owners of those portfolios ever lasted too long. When she was ready to move on, Kalama was quite happy to clean up any mess that her employment might leave behind. An asset indeed but one who proved fatal more often than not.
It was fascinating to watch the world change around her as the centuries passed but Kalama never seemed to. One constant in a world of moving parts. Yet, there were always more battles to fight, people to slay and Hollow and Quincy for her to kill with extreme prejudice. In her own way, she’d found a semblance of peace although that only seemed to rear its end when she was taking part in exactly the opposite.
Now in a world where everyone seems to be spiritually aware, Kalama finds it easier than ever to travel about, unleashing her brutality on those who have become her target. Training constantly and having pushed herself to the brink, she finds herself tapping into a brand new level of power that she’d never dreamt of. Shunko was its name and while the green haired woman was still coming to terms with this power, she is constantly amused by the fact that her inner fire has now taken on a more useful form.
‘Fuck the Shinigami. Fuck the Quincy. Fuck…well, just fuck.’
EQUIPMENT
○ Mask: A relic from the old days that she still wears to this day while on the job.
POWERS AND SKILLS
○ Martial Artist: Kalama was trained from a young age in learning how to kill people using just her hands and feet. Her body is a well honed killing machine and despite her petite size, she's more than capable of easily incapacitating those far larger than herself with an accurate strike to a pressure point. Her style is incredibly fluid and she's incredibly difficult to catch while fighting. With all her years of experience, it's a tough task facing her in unarmed combat, with her lack of sense of fair play making it even worse.
○ Perfect Form: In her time, a weak body meant death and so Kalama has spent endless hours working on making sure that her body would never fail her. Strength, speed, conditioning, she's worked immensely hard on pushing them to the brink of her capabilities, allowing her to dish out and take a great deal of punishment, all the while darting around and striking her enemies. She was bred for war and had continued to train over the long centuries, involving herself in countless violent encounters in the human world to keep herself at top form.
○ Keen Focus: While she does enjoy the thrill of a good slaughter, many of her tasks have involved eliminating or incapacitating a particular target. She is able to blot out her surroundings in order to track and hunt her victim without much trouble.
○ Strong Willpower: Kalama doesn't quit and will more often than not try to take her foe down with her should she find herself on the losing end of a conflict. She'll keep getting up and death is preferable to surrender.
SHINIGAMI ABILITIES
○ Hoho: Kalama is wickedly fast when it comes to using Shunpo, as is expected from anyone who was once a member of the covert squad, regardless of era. She moves so quickly that it's incredibly difficult to figure just where she is at any given time and such is her skill, she's managed to figure out an ability where even her after images can deal damage, exploding in a thunderous blast rather than just fade away.
○ Hakuda: Her bread and butter in terms of fighting arts, allowing her to increase her already formidable unarmed skills to another level. Kalama was a natural from early on when it came to Hakuda, finding it rather easy from the start to manipulate her spiritual energy into increasing the effectiveness of both her offence and defence. Endlessly training when it comes to Hakuda, Kalama has become a true tour de force when using her body to fight, now able to push herself beyond the boundary of what she is capable of normally. From delivering a seemingly endless assault of punches in the blink of an eye to being able to launch an opponent backwards with barely a touch of her hand or foot, Kalama has truly come into her own. More recently, she has experimented with the idea of even exerting her energy beyond her own body and is thoroughly enjoying her fairly new ablility to repulse a foe without even touching them, using her Hakuda from distance.
○ Kido: Kalama has come to find an appreciation for Kido and has become quite creative with her spells although usually for more sadistic reasons more than anything else. She's fond of using the charge that her Zanpakuto releases in order to add a little more sizzle to her Bakudo, allowing even her binding spells to unleash a nasty shock. Due to her fighting style, she skips chants often and after all her years of toying around, she's learned to maintain a large amount of her spells power, with the amount less than half at this point. Over the long centuries, she has also discovered the art of speaking incantations after spells rather than before, giving her an additional edge when going about her deadly work, especially during stealth missions.
○ Zanjutsu: While she is good with her Zanpakuto and has reached the level of Shikai, Kalama has somewhat neglected this particular aspect, preferring to follow down a different path in terms of gaining strength. That being said, she will eventually return to mastering her weapon, knowing that she'll never be at her peak unless she does.
ZANPAKUTO INFORMATION
○ Zanpakutô Name: Seidenki
○ Zanpakutô Spirit Summary: Seidenki takes on the form of a rather tall looking woman, her form completely covered from head to toe in an assassin's outfit, along with a mask to cover everything below her nose. All that can be seen of her actual appearance is her long blue hair and bright yellow eyes, which seem to sparkle when she is angry or disappointed. Kalama hasn't seen her true appearance yet although she believes that perhaps if she ever learns Bankai then perhaps the outfit of her Zanpakuto will fade away.
She's a mysterious spirit and spends a lot of her time giving rather vague and unhelpful answers, a fact that Kalama doesn't appreciate much. Seidenki is never cruel or cowardly but is a stern teacher, constantly pushing her master into improving herself. She's somewhat frustrated by Kalama's desire for blood and carnage but there are moments where it almost appears that she seems to revel in them too. It's a bit of a quandary, a sign that master and sword have yet to fully understand each other.
Seidenki can be rather playful when she wants to be and has more than once begun a game of kiss chase with her master, in order to fully test her skills and capabilities. She moves as fast as lightning so is a perfect example for Kalama in that regard. During these games, the two seem to get on a little better and on occasion, they've actually been able to briefly cross the chasm of misunderstanding between them and speak plainly although it never seems to last long.
○ Inner World: Mixing well with her zanpakuto spirit, Kalama's inner world takes on the form of a ninja hideout, filled with a vast amount of rooms and tunnels, while traps are littered all over the place. It's not a world for the faint of heart and it's almost impossible to tell where Seidenki is unless Kalama is at her most focused. One wrong move could spell disaster and throw Kalama straight out of her inner world, which has happened more times than she could guess. The entire place is just another training ground, one that she must master every time she appears in it.
○ Zanpakutô Appearance: Kalama's sealed sword takes on the form of a short blade that is about as long as her forearm. The scabbard is coloured dark purple.
SHIKAI INFORMATION
○ Release Phrase: Zap, Seidenki
○ Shikai Appearance: When released, Seidenki takes on the form of a long bladed knife with an incredibly jagged edge. It's constantly charged with lightning, giving it a rather eerie looking appearance.
○ Shikai Abilities: Whenever Kalama strikes an opponent with Seidenki, she channels a current of lightning through the blade and into them, with enough voltage to temporarily numb a limb or if against a weaker foe, paralyse them completely for a short period of time. She can also make a throwing action with her zanpakuto, which releases a quintet of lightning blades that are launched in front of her, each of which is able to cause the same effect if they make contact with an enemy. The maximum range of her thrown blades is 20M.
SHUNKO INFORMATION
○ Shunko: Kalama is still getting used to her Shunko but she's reached the level of incompleted, allowing herself to become covered in flames in order to amplify the strength of her attacks. She's also capable of manipulating it enough in order to release blasts of fire at her enemies although for the moment, the range isn't all that impressive. That being said, she's skilled enough to easily cause an unprepared opponent to experience a lifetime of pain, burning in the fires of her growing new power.

[adm]Approved.
- Initial Check:
Preliminary Assessment
There is not enough here to justify an Advanced in Kido or Hakuda. She doesn't demonstrate any of the milestones that are minimum expectations of that skill bracket or are deeply expanded upon and personalised due to their brief descriptions which impacts her ability to have the incomplete Shunko that would require advanced in both.
"In terms of the stunning effect, an opponent with a higher durability/willpower than Kalama's zanjutsu."
Please remove this, if there is ever a conflict between you and another member. Staff will evaluate it as I am trying to take us away from skill check conflict resolution due to it driving up skills arbitrarily for the sake of potency rather than their purpose to represent where a character is at narratively. Even if that was not the case, if this skill was to ever reach Elite you're essentially asking someone to possess a Master just to avoid being stunned which doesn't fly.
