AKIRA TAIRITSU

So it begins.

The infestation of Hollows began to pour from the endless abyss that held home to the Vasto Lordes, Asher. It was a grotesque sight, a sea of reiatsu that his golden iris could see beyond the normal eye, a vast ocean of negative emotion which dictated a grand finale. Titans would fight here, Akira would not be one of them. It was his duty to assure there weren't any infiltrators trying to scurry between the lines, for the best. The Gotei was here and to be beside them was worse than facing down these beings.

None of this was personal, strictly duty.

He stared down a trio of lithe looking entities, each aiming to move across the smokey savannah that held damage from former colossal attacks, causing the Shinigami to allow a soft exhale from the throat. He’d begin muttering an incantation, though tainted in a way, mixed for Hadō#1: Sho and Hadō#4: Byakurai as each palm forged a sphere outline, a crackle of sapphire mixing with telekinetic energy, only for it to disperse and cause a small fire outward.

Tsk.

Akira’s right hand shifted, grasping midnight blue wrapping around Rivu’s hilt and flash stepped ahead, drawing swiftly down the throat and mid section of a more snake like entity, causing a rapid twist of the body and leaning into the momentum, fingers tracing across slick steel. Then it sparked. Following up with a swift Byakurai into the seconds Hollow mask, causing a small yet effective hole as a marking as it slumped dead. The third?

Handled.

It let out a large, sticky, tongue but Akira managed to step to the left, trusting in instinct and unleashed a binding rope of light with the left hand, letting it wrap around the mouth, causing it to bite its own tongue off as it writhed in anguish. He concluded by letting it tighten more, more as it suffocated like a python, coiling and eventually ceasing its movements.

."I doubt this’ll be the end but should it persist at this level, I can rely on my colleagues to clean up. To think Asher would strike out now.

He claimed to himself softly, a potent spiritual pressure emanating from the man.

Joshua had known it would only be a matter of time until he was pulled into the clusterfuck that was the goings on in Africa. The remains of Vasthime had been a hotbed of activity since the whole incident had begun, but thus far he had dodged getting directly involved. Either he’d just been lucky to not get assigned to the crews working in the area, or he’d been assigned already and out covering other locations. However, he’d been in Soul Society when the newest spike of activity had started and he’d known in his bones that when the call went out he was going to get roped into it.

He didn’t dread it though.

Joshua held no fear of going onto the battlefield, even one hosting such titans as were to clash here. Make no mistake, he was in no hurry to meet another ending or anything like that but he was content to rely on his own skill and Lady Luck to keep him alive. Besides, he’d found the Eleventh Division of the old Gotei a home for a reason. Joshua relished a good fight, the test of skill and luck that decided life and death gave him a thrill that made him feel more alive than anything else. Getting to do good work by protecting people from soul eating monsters? All the better. Which brings us to our current situation. Hollows were streaming out of the hole, seeking to slip the net and make for the larger world.

Joshua had claimed three since he’d arrived.

He sense another group of them on the move, not bothering to hide their presence, and he wasted no time in making for their location. Members of the Gotei had been spread out in a loose ring to keep things contained, and he had his space to hold. While getting roped into all of this was a pain and cut into his leisure time he sure as hell wasn’t going to do a poor job once it had been assigned. And as stated, he didn’t mind this kind of work. As he closed in on the group of Hollows however, the situation changed. Someone else had beaten him to the location, and was just finishing off the last of the three as Joshua got into sight. Something tickled at his mind at the sight of the man.

“Tidy work there! Didn’t think anyone else was over thi-” Joshua called out in his usual cheery voice as he came into calling range. That something in his mind clicked though, and the words fell off as he looked the man over for a few moments. Then he let out a sigh, reaching up and scratching his head under his hat for a moment.
“Had to be something complicated...” he muttered, barely audible, before looking back at the man. “You don’t happen to be anyone other than Akira Tairitsu, do ya?” he asked, though he was pretty sure he knew the answer. Hana’s description and his own peering into the subject made him pretty sure.

Just his luck.

The escapade across Africa's barren lands had landed him a pretty penny. It still is, but the last few jobs he's taken have brought him closer and closer to the root everyone else's issue. Security was tight as is, especially after the first time the good guys failed to hold the line, but after a certain point, you'd stop seeing any Vandenreich or Gotei members because of their inability to handle the Hollow that spilled out that hole. It made it all too easy for a lone wolf to snatch a pretty lamb and be gone like a Plus. Today just had to be the day everything decided to go to Hell, but a job's a job, and he's doesn't fancy letting his business expenditures go to waste.

Fighting's all around, but he's focused on his MTT 520-RR's engine revving as he sped through the battlefield, dodging out on any direct confrontations. Even with all out war all around him, it doesn't pertain to him, nor does he plan on interacting with it. Besides, with his Reiatsu sealed, nobody has any reason to approach a speeding motorcycle, and they definitely wouldn't care about the exhaust with Cero and Bala laying waste to everything.

The only problem-

The screech of a Hollow caught his attention, its proximity too close, and he's smart to keep his awareness up because, mere moments later, a beast exploded from seemingly thin air, running through hordes of soldiers as its Rhinoceros-like appearance followed the sound of his bike. It's fast too, but his bike's one of the fastest in existence. However, he doesn't need to chance fate here, so a little detour is in order.

With a sharp left, he heard the creature scurry to make the turn and crash, but it didn't take long for it to be back on his trail. The rock formation up ahead should do though, and with a little extra oomph, he pushed forward, using that formation as a ramp to send his bike flying. He didn't stay on that flight, jumping off to the side as the Hollow followed through the sky after the bike, landing on it as it crashed back to Earth. Coincidentally, the two idiots sizing each other up during a war would find that life hates them, and the bike and Hollow had landed not too far from them. The explosion that had occurred because of that interaction might have caught their attention, but they'd probably be more concerned with the hulking Hollow that would make itself known to them not long after.

And like any Rhinoceros, that creature wasted no time charging at the imbeciles on its territory.

The man who had cursed the two with their newest opponent found himself sneaking around out of view. He'll have to go the rest of his journey on foot, but he's a pro. He can handle most of what'll bother him out here.

AKIRA TAIRITSU

The chaos had begun to settle like snowfall upon the planes, a swift flick of the wrist assuring any remaining vermillion was swiped off the zanpaktou in a crescent fashion. It was shortly after this display and mid sheathing of Rivu that a voice broke his focus briefly, iris of gold shifting to greet Joshua’s person and taking in any spiritual anomalies immediately. It wasn’t difficult to tell the brief arch of the brow at his inquiry, a momentary silence falling across them.

How did he know him?

Todgestalten didn’t recruit any Shinigami nor was he a member of the Library within Japan. The only individuals left to indicate him with a description were Shinigami that had become second nature in his life recently, Gotei members. It was very like the Gotei to have a focus on criminals in their eyes than a horde of monstrosities that sought to devour all in their path.

That brief silence only enhanced a level of tension as Akira’s pressure flexed a little, a threat as the moist steel of his blade came to rest on the right shoulder. It was obvious by the venom within the following words that such might be the man Hana had mentioned but also due to his aversion clearly by the thought of Joshua.

."I can only surmise you’re a member of the Gotei. It’s best if you leave any form of warrant on me within your belt, considering our current-.

Then did his focus break from Joshua, eye squinting at this dust that was picked up by a motorcycle of some variation? Though the individual on it was second fiddle comparative to a large Rhino like entity charging with intent to destroy. It was within that brief moment that Akira’s left palm tensed, a flux of reiatsu unleashing a wordless Bakudo#21:Sekienton! The intent was for the crimson cloud to coat them both, disorientating Joshua for a moment as the white clad man Shunpo’d from the initial charging to the right hand side.

It was the intent that Joshua would be the target for such a beast whilst Akira could manage a counter attack of more effective range, analyzing the creature up close as the bigger area of smoke would act like a lure.

The man’s answer to his question confirmed that yes, today just had to be more complicated than expected. Joshua got the gist of what Akira was going to say before the imminent interruption played out, and truth be told he was already deciding if that was the way to play this anyway. Things were going to be hectic enough without engaging in a full blown fight with a fugitive while Hollows and worse were crashing down around them. Like that Rhino-like Hollow that had just landed on a motorcycle that had fallen out of the sky.

Yup, today was going to keep getting more complicated it seemed.

“Well, don’t see that every day...” Joshua said, his mouth going off without really checking in with his mind which was already working on the next step. Instead, the battlefield changed yet again as Akira let out a wordless kidō and filled the area with smoke. That the smoke caught Joshua along with the charging hollow was assuredly no accident, and for that Joshua couldn’t blame Akira. He was going to make use of it though as best he could.
“Hadō #31. Shakkahō,” he muttered as quietly as he could, launching the kidou forward. Oddly, it wasn’t aimed to actually strike the Hollow; given the size and power of the thing, Joshua guessed he had low odds of taking the thing out even if he did get a direct hit. Especially with the incantation abandonment. Instead, he was hoping the motion and sense of spiritual energy streaking passed the thing would drag its attention off.

For Joshua’s part, he used a Shunpo to send himself back in the opposite direction of his kidō so he’d exit the smoke off to the side of where the Hollow was headed out. He didn’t fancy dancing with a Hollow in a smoke cloud, especially since he guessed Akira may well simply drop another spell or three at the (hopefully) hampered beast. For his part, his blade was out and he’d hunt an opportunity to take out the Hollow as well.

A mindless beast has no need for tactical analysis. It only understands the situation as it presents itself, living in a state of raw emotional stimulant over any logicality. It's a creature that lives off primal instinct alone. Not being able to see bothered it none. Having something fly past it did nothing. As it charged forward, it did not stop until it crashed into another large formation of overturned Earth, crashing with enough force to splinter the formation's surface.

Tricks do not work on a creature that doesn't think. Once it charges, it does not stop to worry if it'll hit its target. It will simply charge again, but since there are two new targets, its small brain did not waste any time to pick one. The color white is a nuisance. The Vandenreich-aligned Quincy became its target as it stomped and roared before charging again.

AKIRA TAIRITSU

Tsk.

This Hollow was physically capable, a brutal impact tearing earth asunder. Its animalistic basis giving the impression not only of the armored, thick, hide that would protect it no doubt but most likely a method to close short distances to increase the damage of impact. Troublesome. Physical prowess? Akira was not that. He glanced at Joshua’s Hadō, noticing it dwarfed in comparison to his own skills, leading it astray wasn’t effective though the primal nature was useful insight.

Very well.

It began charging at Akira who stood opposite the Gotei affiliated individual and brought his left hand up against the base of the zanpaktou, muttering softly to himself before a gleam of yellow began to forge, forming itself drastically and beginning to forge. He wouldn’t risk a layered incantation. It would be an issue if it reached him. He calmly released an exhale, stating the Hadō which now enveloped the length of the steel.

."Hadō#32: Okasen.

The thick burst of yellow energy shot out violently, upturning earth as it sought to impact with the creature, though it had been edited slightly. It would act more of a wave, aiming to slide beneath the large body mass of the creature to cause damage more so to joints and underbelly, hoping this would be a weakpoint. It did though mean Joshua might be in the firing line as its more fluid nature held little control, by design or by accident was difficult to tell from an outsiders perspective.

He did know that if this didn’t work, the oncoming momentum would be incredibly painful…Maybe it was time to give his latest bridge of magic another go if it came to it.

It seemed Joshua’s feint had done little more than waste his own energy, though by a nice turn of luck he didn’t seem to be the target of the Hollow as it cleared the smoke. The beast turned and charged Akira with another roar that shook the ground. Or maybe that was just the considerable weight of the creature? It didn’t really matter.

Joshua didn’t hesitate on his next course of action.

He used a Shunpo to get into motion, following along parallel to the Hollow as it charged Akira but back out of the creature’s line of sight. Joshua doubted that Akira was just going to let the creature run up and gore him, and sure enough the man put another spell into motion. Joshua was competent at kidō, and you didn’t have to be a geniues at it to notice that the spell Akira called out and what followed were not what one would consider a ‘textbook’ example of the spell. He held off for a moment, long enough to see if Akira’s kidō had any effect at slowing or disabling the creature or if the creature moved on uncaring.

Then Joshua struck.

Using his own speed and shunpo Joshua shot forward and up so that he’d approach the creature from just above it and at its flank. Joshua’s blade lashed out; he didn’t bother aiming for a blow to slow or hurt the creature. He was aiming to take the creature’s mask with his blade as he approached from what he hoped would be a blind spot. The creature’s eyes were mostly forward facing, and it seemed focused on Akira and the light-show he was putting on. Hulking beast or not, the thing was still a Hollow. If he could cut its mask then the threat would be neutralized.

The animal kingdom is a world of direct and blunt actions. Deliberate meaning must be the norm at all times. Kill or be killed is the only way. Playing games is an easy way to lose one's head. With their actions deliberate, the two Shinigami would find their efforts actually successful. Holding back in hopes of convoluting schemes and strategies only work in movies when the villain is a wannabe genius.

With a beast like this, you hit it where you know will hurt, and then you kill it where you know it'll die. The Hollow found its legs gone as waves of energy took away its only means of movement. Then came the sword that pierced its mask. Even as a big as it is, size meant nothing in terms of overall power, and it lacked anything besides the path forward. Its death came just as swift as its charge, and its body would begin to dissolve as its life slipped into the distant sky.

Their hole would fall quiet, but the rampage of war continued around them. Screams could be heard from a distance, whether friend or foe. Now is the time to decide if they are capable of looking past past transgressions for a better tomorrow. One man, beyond their scope, knows what he's aiming for anyway. His armored visage simply waited. An opportunity will come. They always do.

AKIRA TAIRITSU

The creature faltered under the weight of their unified assault, a flash of yellow taking out the legs whilst Joshua managed to fell it with his own zanpaktou. It began to fumble, only for the momentum to cause earth to churn, mask broken, body bubbling as it started to dissolve into the Soul Cycle. Purification was such an odd thing for Akira, such an act having many moral inquiries. This wasn’t the time to be a philosopher.

His golden eyes darted around the immediate surrounding area for the individual who drove his vehicle, he doubted that this person lacked capability nor resided within the confines of Vandenreich or Gotei. They’d begin taking in the surrounding reiatsu, able to find traces and hoping to catch a glimmer of this individual's presence beyond normal sight, unless Sigurd was concealing it masterfully. He had not forgotten about the other issue, a Gotei member was right here. This motorcycle driving wild card ceased any hope of outright conflict.
.
."We may aswell cut straight to the chase. Our options are, crossblades with your duty bound intent to see me in cuffs, we engage the individual who drove this thing in our direction or act on a mutual acknowledgement that another day, another time.

For once, Akira did not hold the usual warmth with a smile but a severe neutrality across his features. The intense scan of the surrounding area, each muscle tense with this unknown entity and furthermore an entity which he’d be more than satiated in cutting down now. Joyous. Even as he stood, the sadistic mutterings of Zathrusta only seemed more appealing.
