QUINCY SPELLCRAFT
Harnessing the power of their own internal reserves and the vast quantities of particles in the world around them, a quincy is able to mould it into shapes and spells which allow them to command great power as spellcasters. Due to their nature as being a singular tribe that drifted to every corner of the world the actual nature of spellcraft is vast and unique to specific regions and tribes as they all grew in their own ways to their environment. This thread is designed to function as a detailed guide to the handling of quincy spellcraft as well as serve as a universal list of spells for them to utilise in their threads.
As the quincy do not possess a specific grading system for their magic like the shinigami in the series do, liberties have been taken to expand and characterise their approach to magic. Quincy spells are organised off a grading system where each grade corresponds to a skill level with the exception of their final grade which will be treated as collaberation spells which require multiple practitioners to initiate, and maintain if appropriate.
Evocation Techniques
Aria and incantation: Much like their opposites of the shinigami, quincy spells are evoked using arias and names. For lower grade spells they are usually short and only require one line, whereas higher grade spells will demand more lines. As a rule of thumb, the higher grade of spell the longer the aria but the more powerful it will be inexchange.
Unlike Shinigami, they are unable to abandon the incantation entirely outside of special circumstances such as preparing the spell beforehand, possessing a unique characteristic, or shortening the incantation through experience.
Ritual and ceremony: Due to their external nature, it is possible for a Quincy to perform a ritual or ceremony. These types of spells are quite advanced as far as the spells go due to their requirement to have set-up and preparation though they will usually forgo incantations as a result. An example of these kind of spells are Sprenger which requires the quincy to make use of additional tools and be able to set-up the target in an appropriate position. Some rituals can be as simple as creating the required conditions such as generating reishi constructs to initiate the spells.
Sealing and catalysts: Through the process of doing the preparation of a spell and sealing it for later use, it grants the quincy the powerful ability to make up for their relatively lower reiryoku pool compared to other races. The best example of this skill is in their usage of silver tubes which have liquid reiryoku on standby in order to instantly cast a spell with reduced or no cost to their own reserves of spiritual power.
For more experienced spellcasters it is not outside of the realm for these quincy to have entire spells sealed within a catalyst to avoid needing to even cast the spell by already having it on standby.
QUINCY: Vollständig
On PH Vollständig is treated as different to Quincy: Vollständig of canon. On the site it is treated as a spell which draws out the internal power of the quincy through gathering the external reishi to fuel and craft this transformation. It is far more stable than its adjacent form of Letzt Stil and does not have a duration in exchange for less potency, its power is in the release's flexibility that grants the quincy more utility and a more stable release that can be maintained for longer than its counterpart.
LIST OF SPELLS
* indicates for example purposes only as a measure of scope for grades, they are not considered universal spells.
GRADE I
Grade I spells are simple in form and function, they use at most a single silver tube to initiate if required, and their aria can be summarised in a single line. An example of a grade I spell might be the caster launching a silver tube at a target and igniting the reiryoku in the container to create a fireball or a powerful gust of wind.
Gritz
Aria: A silver rod strikes the five-fingered stone bed.
Description: The practitioner generates a ball of energy which is launched at a target to expand around the target and trap them, this can also used on themselves for defensive purposes if required. A silver tube may be used if preferred.
Wolke
Aria: Tilt the goblet to the west.
Description: The practitioner generates a ball of energy and launches it at the ground, creating a cloud of reiryoku which can soften their fall or slow down a target momentarily. A silver tube may be used if preferred.
GRADE II
Grade II spells are simple in form and function though may have some unique characteristics that elevate them above spells below them in grade. They may require more than one silver tube to initiate if required and their aria might have one or two lines. An example of a Grade II spell would be using a silver tube to create a blazing inferno which surrounds a target before collapsing on them to incinerate them.
Heizen
Aria: Feel the wrath of battle and accept this sacred chalice.
Description: A spell that requires the usage of silver tubes, upon the conclusion of the aria the four tubes erupt and connect to one another which purges everything between them. The closer the tubes are the more potent the spell is.
Vollständig
Aria: N/A.
Description: A unique spell which elevates the practitioner to a higher state of power. Each Vollstandig's manifestation is different due to using the individual as a foundation to take form. Required in order to manifest the Quincy: Vollstandig, though is unable to utilised if the quincy has undergone training with the sanrei glove due to incompatibility.
GRADE III
Grade III spells are more expansive than their lower equivalents. Primarily due to the introduction of rituals which can see simple chanting and evoking the name put to the wayside in favour of preparation and set-up. For rituals, an example could be a quincy launching a seele schneider at the ground which is utilised as an anchor for the spell.
For those that are not rituals their effects often have additional steps or caveats such as a quincy casting a Grade III spell which generates fire except once the fire burns out the ashes of the fire gather to form a smokescreen that obscures the user from view.
Qualkreis
Aria: N/A.
Description: A ritual that requires the user to create at least five reishi constructs around the target. These constructs flash like lightning before becoming heilig bogen and launch a series of projectiles at the target. Even should they be deflected, the arrows can transfer their kinetic energy into the environment to redirect something to attack their target. Silver tubes may be used to create the constructs instead.
Ransōtengai
Aria: N/A.
Description: A basic ritual spell but with high utility. It is an advanced technique due to requiring a high level of control and focus to maintain, through attaching hundreds of tiny reishi threads to various points of their body it allows the quincy to continue to fight while paralysed, or suffering from any other physical ailment such as age or poisons. As long as the quincy is conscious and using Ransoutengai they may continue to move and control themselves.
Sprenger
Aria: N/A.
Description: A ritual which requires the practioner to set five seele schneider around a target in the shape of a pentagram. The target is then bound in the centre of the pentagram before the quincy triggers the spell with reiryoku which causes the area of the pentagram to erupt in a blue pillar.
GRADE IV
Grade IV spells are considered to be the apex of spell usage for a quincy. They may take the form of complex and elaborate rituals, extremely potent focused ones which can be considered evolutions of Grade III ones, or be a spell of great power and utility.
An example of a spell of this level could be a quincy creating a fire spell which will use the reishi and reiatsu of its target to continue to fuel itself to make it impossible to extinguish by normal means while making it difficult for enemies to operate in the dangerous environment created by the spell. An example of a ritual at this stage could be taking the Grade III Ransoutengai to use it en masse, or try to control your opponent like a puppet.
Geldschrank
Aria: N/A.
Description: A more advanced form of Sprenger which requires a great deal of mastery to execute. It requires only a single seele schneider to execute which is shot at the target before surrounding them within a cube. At the quincy's command the cage will collapse on the target and deal immense damage to the victim inside as they are torn apart into reishi should they not survive the spell.
GRADE V
A special grade of spell which may only be used by one who has taken the field of quincy spellcraft to its limit. These spells rival the shinigami's forbidden kido in the fact that some of them may distort space-time and carry a range of powerful effects which put them in their own league of utility and potency.
Schatten*
Allows for the manipulation of space and creation of a pocket dimension. As a result, it presents as a Grade V spell. Used for example purposes only.
Kirchenlied: Sankt Zwinger
Aria: N/A.
Description: Considered the ultimate expression of traditional arcane arts. Kirchenlied: Sankt Zwinger is a fusion of offence and defence, the user generates various roman numerals from their fingertips before planting them around themselves. From these points several columns of reishi appear which baths the area in a blue light, any that would enter this area are dealt tremendous damage as reprisal. Due to being a quickly established ritual however, a strong enough opponent may disrupt its foundation by destroying what the spell is built on.
GRADE VI
The final grade of spell, these spells are ones only created by those those feats transcend the realm of spellcraft. A Grade VI is very rarely considered to be universal or known amongst quincy due to their nature which makes them often compared to genuine miracles performed by the handful of individuals that ever reach beyond the boundary of what is capable with the arcane arts of the quincy, and rarely will someone who creates a Grade VI spell ever share it with peers.
Auswählen*
Allows for the user to give out parts of their soul to grant another power at the cost of tying them to the user. The user is able to recall the pieces of the soul and kill the victims in the process to acquire their powers. While this spell is acknowledged in the setting, it is not universal and only Yhwach's personal spell so it is an example only. Any who historically acquired powers from Yhwach also possess a comprised immune system as a result of this spell which makes hollow reiatsu lethal if it invades their soul.
Sankt Altar*
Allows the user to steal power from others. It is used as an example only.
GRADE VII
A special grade, while rated as the highest grade they are not rated on anything other than the special requisite of being something that must be performed by multiple people. Unlike a ritual which may be empowered by the collaborative efforts of multiple quincy, a Grade VII cannot even function without the input of a collective effort which makes them outliers from the standard spell gradings.
