Reasons For Upgrading: Now that he has finally been reawakened, Daigoro is back in the Kokuryuteshi, and ready to bring whatever peace that he can to the world. He may be strong, but his defense is still limited at his current strength.

Just after returning to Kin's side, he came across Ulquiorra, in the city of San Francisco, in the real world. They fought, and Daigoro was able to stop a Lanza Del Relampago, almost dying in the process, but surviving. If he had just that little bit more strength, he would've been able to counter that ability.

Also, he trained Chisei, one of his old friends, into learning bankai, by pushing him to his limits. This made Daigoro rethink his own strength, and after a large-scale fight, found that his zanpakuto was able to merge with his own body, in a process known as assimilation, and strengthen him further.
