Coffee and a Rabbit [Lukas/Librea]

THE CITY OF LIGHT

Another morning lost to a hangover; Lukas' dishevelled stepping making past the streets of the stadt with lumbering pace. Eyes squinted at best as he made his way to the usual coffee shop, nearing the edge of the floating city. The sound of a gull impatiently pecking at someone's food pierced against fragile ears as he rounded a corner, cursing under his breath as he ducked towards the bodega, a hand clutching against silver strands, digging into his scalp.
"Hey, hey." he grumbled, now slumped over the coffee store's counter. "Big coffee. Don't care what else."
The barista side eyed him - as it usually went - and turned away as the grinder roared to life. Another wince from the quincy and he'd turn away, eyes flittering between closed and squinting. The sun had ran overhead, now pouring across the seating. Pretty dead. The man acknowledged, but what did he expect at 2:00pm? A breakfast rush?
The sight came back into focus as he strained himself, pupils screaming in rejection as they struggled. He had seen a few weird things over the years, and lately it had been happening more and more - but he still couldn't process what he was seeing. For now, he'd blame it on the alcohol, a slight nudge to his shoulder as a massive paper cup was pushed towards him. Crumpled bills sifted from his pocket, dumped unceremoniously as he grabbed the cup, stepping forward.
Silver eyes came into focus, a low whistle from behind his teeth. He attempted to make it silent, but failed in execution splendidly. Approaching one of the freestanding tables, a woman of particular appearance was seated, something of a surprise to Lukas.
"Hey uh, no offense, lady," he said, not really meaning it - "But are you a rabbit?"

Coffee. It was a strong-smelling thing, and frankly the smell alone was something that had almost made her consider going somewhere else. But if nothing else, she had insisted that she try SOMETHING in the little shop. With all of the noise and such around her, she wondered if perhaps her energy levels simply weren't up to the task of keeping up with humans. So she had settled for Tea. Presumably it had the same.....energizing effect, but to a lesse extent and with a much less....offensive taste and smell to it. Thus she found herself at one of the tables, the large, elegant beast that she was settled into a chair that thankfully, wasn't too small for her. She was on the tall side, but not anything outside of the realm of what humans could be. Her seat was comfortable, and the view out the window was something for her to watch as she took small sips of her drink. Her eyes not focusing on anything specific, but simply seeming to scan the cityscape before her all at once. Such a stimulating place.
However, something else did snag her attention. And as Lukas found himself approaching the woman, one of those large ears swiveled toward him, soon followed by her head as she glanced briefly at the man, and then looked straight ahead. Of course, by human standards, it would seem like she was ignoring him, by not looking directly at him as her ears swiveled around, one of them staying in his direction. Her features were certainly humanesque. Her eyes a bit on the larger side, her nose a bit on the smaller side. That ple white hair, and of course, those VERY long limbs, elongated and clawed despite the tactile delicate manner in which they held her mug of tea.
"I've been told that I resemble one. among other things." She responded calmly, her accent quite obvious as she did.

"Among other things." Lukas muttered, quiet enough to not be heard. Faint nodding accompanied it, as he circled the table, eyes tracing across the - well he assumed - woman, for a split second. Could be someone's science experiment, right?
That didn't feel too impossible, in the silver haired man's head. His brow would knot as he squinted, taking a long drink from his coffee. "I'll assume you aren't from around here, yeah?" a light hearted tone, if she could notice it.
He'd lock his gaze to hers as he motioned to the seat across, the black ribbon of his sanrei flitting in the light. "Mind if I sit?"

Librea sipped her tea, her ears twitching in the young man's direction, giving the illussion that she wasn't paying him much attention, at least to a human. "No, I hail from Europe." She noted, as if THAT were to explain anything. All the same, she did note his curiosity to be... interesting. And finally, she turned her head to look in his direction before glancing back out the window, as if watchful of something. Many of her normal quirks no doubt gave strange impressions to these humes.
"You may. The seat is not taken." She assured him, seeing nothing wrong with him taking the seat after all. The concept of him sitting near her vs anywhere else completely lost on the woman. It was simply another seat, and the notion of them sitting together meaning anything other than proximity was lost on the woman. She was simply enjoying her tea.

The wood audibly scraped against stone as Lukas moved to take a seat, the cup ever so gingerly gracing the table. Lukas was not of mind to be spilling even a drop of the precious caffeine, a curious frown overtaking his expression. "Europe. Big place. Not that the stadt is any different." A vague gesture to the city around them, unnecessary as it were.
Another drink, as caffeine finally began to fill his veins.
"And big as it is I've never..." Lukas' hand trailed in the air loosely, a trail of mismanaged words tumbling behind an ajar mouth. He didn't seek to offend the woman, but his lack of social graces were not so determined. "...never seen someone like you. I spend a lot of time in the stadt too, for what it's worth." Hoping, in turn, that he would manage to not sound entirely shitty.
Blinking, Lukas suddenly shook his head, a faint tutting heard underneath. "Sorry. Let me introduce myself. I'm Lukas, of the Vandenreich." The bob of his head in faux bow, rising to meet with his cup more than it was to look at Librea. "And you?"

She paused, glancing his way as he seemed to struggle. He certainly seemed a little uncomfortable around the subject. But Librea herself didn't seem to be particularly bothered by the subject. It was only natural that he not be familiar with her people. Of course, she did not feel particularly inclined to explain where she was from. The fewer aware of that particular detail, the better, as far as she was to be concerned.
"I understand. There is no need to be wary. You are curious, as is natural for humans." She stated simply enough, taking a brief moment to take a small sip of her own tea. "My name is Librea, it is a pleasure to meet you, Lukas." She paused, thinking for a moment. She had heard much about the vandenreich since coming here, as to be expected. This was one of the wardens of this great metal forest.
"You are a protector, yes? Many speak of the Vandenreich with voices rich with praise and warmth. But there is a shawod on the faces of some who wear it's garb." She murmured. True, the vandenreich had it's slogans and sayings. But she was curious what an actual member had to say of it. And certainly, some of it's members did seem a little ...strange.

Something almost pleasant managed to cross Lukas' visage, a grin with no frustration or ill intent. An anomaly, to be sure.
"Nice to meet you, Librea." It was refreshing, for a change. The lack of immediate scorn, to not be seen as a criminal. A finger traced the lid of his cup as she continued, an involuntary raised eyebrow at her claim. Protector? That's one way to say it.
A younger Lukas might've responded in kind - protecting the lives of those put to the blade of hollows, the weak who had no way to defend themselves. A younger Lukas who had ideals, who hadn't been pushed too far to return. A younger Lukas who was long dead, a lingering coldness behind his eyes.
"Something like that." he avoided the question, exhaling slowly as his gaze slipped from the woman, unfocused. Staring through her. "Hollows are a part of the way the world works. It's more like... Maintenance, than protection. Making sure the gears turn the way they're supposed to."
A dilution of his truth, spoken with enough conviction to be seen as reality. In the end, Lukas saw them as a plague, one that needed to be cut off at the source.

Librea nodded slowly at this. Watching the man closely as he spoke of such things. Exchanging her greeting, and seeming to raise a brow in her direction. She still was learning what such expressions meant, her ears shifting briefly, sweeping the rest of the cafe, before refocusing on Lukas again. Certainly an interesting thing to focus on.
"Hollows. Strange to speak of. I have heard the whispers of fear here and there. But hollows were not among them." She murmured curiously. Certainly hollows had been a problem, but the fear in the front of people's minds, at least those she'd heard rumors around, were the demons in the dark, and occasionally, murmur among the quincy about shinigami. Not that she fully understood either of them. But well, she still didn't understand hollows either.
She took another small sip of her drink, hardly seeming in a hurry, she'd been here for quite some time and had only drank half of it. Hm. She turned her eyes from the window to the young man and stared for a moment. "Are you happy here?"

"I mean, yeah, hollows. You said it yourself, protectors. It's not like we can keep people away from their own bad choices or anything." Whatever else the woman might've intended flew over Lukas' head. Raised as a hyper-traditionalist, it was still hard for him to recognize reality as it were; less the fact that he had never interacted with much else.
He had some other choice thoughts when it came to humans and shinigami - that all, at the end of the day, boiled down to hollows. That hatred was more genuine than any other emotion Lukas held, whether he be fortunate for it or not.
Somewhat lost in the thought, he returned to focus with rapid blinking at Librea's question. A short hiss of air as he'd consider, gaze trailing loosely across the ceiling as he'd lean back. "I try to be." Lukas opted to deflect, shaking his head before settling back onto the rabbit woman. "What about you? The stadt been treating you alright?"

What a strange man. She had been referring to things such as demons. However, the notion of people being harmed by themselves struck Librea as .... so very foreign. She had almost not even thought of such a thing, but thinking back to that which she had witnessed throughout the city... Yes. Yes she supposed that humans hurt themselves perhaps as ften as they hurt one another, or were harmed by hollows. Perhaps even more often. It was something so very strange to consider.
His answer to her question caused her to pause, her ears flicking about, before focusing on him again as she looked out the window. Hmm... "How often do you succeed?" She ventured, certainly curious since it seemed that he was a bit unsure on that front. Though his own question was....well..easily answered.
"This place... it is ...welcoming. It is strange to feel such a thing from a human dwelling. So often the scent of fear or misunderstanding taints the air. But.... I feel as though this city could come to be a home. So many foreign to it's shores call it so. As such, I feel less alone here." She noted calmly enough, with that same strange parlance and mannerism to her speech. But even so, her sincerity was obvious in her tone. She took another small little sip from her tea, before finally she pulled back from the table and stood up. And in doing so, revealed just how immensely tall she was. How long her arms and legs were. It wasn't as obvious with the cloak she wore. But the sense of just how inhuman she really was became a bit more pronounced.
"I am not used to sitting for such lengths. I think I will take my leave." She noted lightly, having already paid for her drink. She glanced toward Lukas. "I wish you well."
