Personality: Innocent, sweet and naive. Those three words... have nothing whatsoever to do with Kanako. No matter how you try to put them into a sentence, you'll never get them to describe her. There's just something about her, it seems. Her speech is laced with kindness, and her actions will almost always be selfless, but... there's still that one little thing. She's got a dirty mind, and a way with words to boot.

She's bisexual, with no preference either way (she'd much rather have a three-way, but she's not gonna say that much to you unless you're in her good books). Her speech can be crude, as can her actions, yet she has a princess-like attitude about things that seems to surpass that, at times. She's not lofty, nor does she 'put on airs'. All she cares about is the idea that people exist to be helped - and nobody can change that fact.

Her one idol is her twin brother, Hideo. She will always look up to him (both physically and morally), and sees his words as being the right ones to follow. If he was to die, or his own path was to be changed, she would be left alone in the world, and possibly make the worst decisions of her life. That said, she isn't dependent on him, she just uses him as a crutch for her own weaknesses.

All-in-all, it seems obvious that Kanako is not one of those sweet and naive characters that would normally grace your world. She's seen a lot, and she's not afraid to go out and tell you so. Stories are one of her more... interesting things to say, but it's difficult to tell how much of it is true, and how much of it is pure bullshit - and a lot of it is rather bullshit.

Zanpakuto Name: Shi o Sodateru (lit. Growing Death)
Zanpakuto Spirit:

Due to the nature of the zanpakuto, Shi o Sodateru takes the form of two spirits, a woman and a panda bear. The woman is the spirit of the katana, while the panda is the spirit of the bokken training sword.

Panda: The panda's name is Itami no Seikatsu. He is a powerful beast, who's words have been known to have moved armies. In hindsight, he may not be as quick on the wit as the woman, but he is certainly vastly superior in strength. He offers as much advice on the world as he knows, and if he sees fit, he'll even allow Kanako to hear his own life's story.

In fact, he was the spirit of a General in the Wu Kingdom, during the Warring States period in China. He died, and found himself locked inside a piece of bamboo, which was crafted to make the partner blade to Shi o Sodateru.

Girl: The girl, on the other hand, is named Shi ya Jinsei. She has a sharp tongue and wit, and a quick temper. She is the spirit of the katana, and will stop at nothing to get what she wants. She is faster than the panda, her attacks come quicker than his, and she is able to strike more in a single swipe than the panda can. That said, she is also quite weak with her attacks.

As a team, the two are able to pull of maneuvers that would be deemed impossible for a single person to attempt.

Zanpakuto World:

Sealed Zanpakuto Appearance: Shi o Sodateru is a dual-wield zanpakuto, made up of a simple katana, and a bamboo training sword, or bokken.
Release Phrase: "Shīrudo zensen, Shi o Sodateru." (lit. "Shield the front lines, Growing Death")


Shikai Appearance:

At the callout of the release phrase, Kanako sheathes her bamboo sword on her back, and simply wields the katana. She then lunges forwards a single step, and swipes it through the air, the friction creating a small pool of Reiatsu around the outside of the blade, transforming it into this form.
Shikai Abilities:

Kuikku Bōei/Quick Defense: By swiping her blade up, in a manner similar to that of Hyorinmaru, Kanako is able to create a small wall of bamboo grow up in front of her body, protecting her from a single strike. She can create this in a hurry. One post use, two posts cooldown.

Take Kēji/Bamboo Cage: If she's clashed blades with an opponent enough, Kanako is able to cause shafts of bamboo to grow up from the points where they clashed. If they're in a small enough area, she can create a cage around the opponent, otherwise the shafts are just used to get in the opponent's path. This ability is passive, and every time blades clash, one of these shafts will grow.

Teishi Ashi/Stop Legs: If Kanako can get in close enough to an opponent, and cut the ground by their feet, she can cause small shoots of bamboo to climb up and begin to wrap themselves around their ankles. If they don't notice it, it can hold them to the ground for five of their posts. They can still move their body around, they just can't move from the one spot they're rooted to. It takes a single post to entrap an opponent, and five posts to cooldown.

Take Gazō/Bamboo Images: Once Kanako takes a swipe at an opponent, and is using this ability, she can cause bamboo shoots to erupt out of the ground at several points, and cut opponents like after-images. This ability can be used over one post, and takes five posts to cooldown.


Bankai Appearance: Saishū-Tekina Bōei (lit. Final Defense)

To activate her bankai, Kanako draws her bamboo sword, and shoves it into the ground, along with the shikai form of her zanpakuto. Once she has done this, a large wall of bamboo grows up behind her, and she herself is raised up onto a pedestal of bamboo. The wall of bamboo itself is 30 feet tall, and 100 feet wide.

Bankai Abilities:

General Control: By moving her zanpakuto in a motion opposite to what she wishes, she can have her wall either grow higher or lower as she wishes.

Wansutoraiku/One Strike: With this ability, Kanako can send out single spears of bamboo from the wall to strike at a single opponent. These spears can reach up to 10 feet in length. Usage 1 post, cooldown 1 post.

Tetsu Bōei/Iron Defense: With this, Kanako is able to increase the thickness of the wall, proportionate to the height. She can thicken the wall at expense of height, or she can make it extremely tall at the expense of girth.

Watashi-Tachi Saraundo!/Protect us!: If Kanako has someone specific she wants to protect, she can use this ability. The bamboo wall is suddenly shoved into the ground, and appears in a circle around Kanako for a 5 meter radius. The wall is the same height , but thicker due to the smaller amount of bamboo being needed for length. This takes one post to use, and the wall can never go back to it's original form. The wall lasts for approximately 500 normal strength hits, or equivalent.

Take no Ha/Bamboo Blade: Kanako can use this ability, either while the wall is in it's basic form, or after she has activated [Watashi-Tachi Saraundo!]. By drawing all of the bamboo back into the ground once more, and forcing the blades of her zanpakuto back in, she can draw both of her zanpakuto separately, creating a pair of large, ten-foot long, 30 pound heavy swords made completely of bamboo. These swords can last until Kanako deactivates her bankai, and she cannot use them to recreate her wall.




Inner Hollow Description:

Inner Hollow Personality: Kanako's Inner Hollow is unusual. Instead of having a 'rider-and-horse' style relationship with Kanako, her and Kanako have a respect of power relationship, and thereby listen to and give each other advice. Basically, they have an agreement with each other, as equals, rather than a tool to the other. Because of this, Kanako respects the opinion of her Inner Hollow, rather than just ignoring whatever she has to say. It is an unusual pairing, and it's something that she rarely reveals to her co-workers, also allowing her to use one or two of her Hollow abilities that would, normally, be difficult for her to accomplish.

Other than that, the Hollow is pretty calm and keeps to herself, but still refuses to allow Kanako access to Resurreccion, saying that there are things in this world that are better left undone. Kanako is still trying to work out the meaning to this statement, to no avail.

Cero: A basic energy ray. This is charged up in the palm of Kanako's left hand, and coloured purple. 1 post use, 1 post cooldown.

Tres-Cero: Kanako's own personal Cero. This Cero is formed in each of her hands, and in her mouth. This Cero can then be fired all as one Cero, or as three different Ceros. Each individual Cero is approximately half the strength of a basic Cero, and are each a single different shade of purple on their own. One post use, three cooldown.
Ketteiteki Daigeki Appearance:

Ketteiteki Daigeki Abilities:

Yuttarishita Izen Daigeki - An ability of Ketteiteki Daigeki in which the user is constantly using Utsusemi. This allows for multiple afterimages in which the afterimages are going in different paths. Basically, the afterimages will act like different versions of the same person (like one will attack from above, one from the left, the right, and so-on). This can only be used once during a release and will shorten a Ketteiteki Daigeki's release by half.

Enzeru Kikan - An upgrade of Hanki from Shunko. Instead of just cancelling out kidou, any energy based-attack (of reasonable strength {if Hanatarou had a Ketteiteki Daigeki, he couldn't cancel out a Getsuga from Ichigo in Bankai}) can be cancelled. However, they must be ready to take some damage on their arms and legs, since you must either kick or punch the attack to cancel it.

Ken Todome - A pair of long, red swords grow from Kanako's hands. She then kneels down, and activates an unusual effect of her Ketteigeki Daigeki, allowing her to target a single enemy for this attack. She pushes off of the ground, and cross-cuts the opponent, using all of her remaining Reiatsu to increase the force of her attacks.



This is a unique ability of Kanako's, and comes under it's own title, simply because it's impossible to place under any of her weapon's abilities. At any time, Kanako is able to open up a mental link with her Twin, Hideo, and allow them to speak to each other through an unmonitorable, lightning-fast link. It cannot be checked by the Yuudeshi Network either.

Background/Roleplay Sample

Background: Kanako Matoko Yuudeshi. Second born of twins, born within Soul Society, on March 17, 1861. As opposed to her brother, Hideo, Kanako spent far more time with their father, Hideki Yuudeshi, who was the current Seventh Division Captain. Upon her entrance to the Shino Academy, it was discovered that, out of all the students, she rivaled even Daigoro Ito in defensive skills (strength-wise, of course), causing her a force to be reckoned with when it came to the time of defending herself against multiple opponents.

During her time here, she refused to receive special treatment. She didn't care that she was the daughter of a Captain, she just wanted to train, and to become strong. And so she did that, in a style similar to that of her twin. But while he trained his own physical strength, she focussed more on her defense. Every hit she took, she learned from, training up both her endurance, and her speed. She didn't want to just take the hits, she wanted to be able to avoid them for as long as she could.

While Hideo was promoted to the 11th Division, Kanako took the Eighth Division, finding herself third seat, beneath Nanao Ise. She didn't have anything else to do with the division, however, and she wasn't present during the Winter War. About that time she was, in fact, training, as well as being assigned to watch the False Karakura Town. After the defeat of Aizen, something changed in Kanako. She was no longer happy with her own power. She wanted more. She needed more. She began to search for it, and it came in the form of something hidden within her.

The mask. It took her years to even discover this mask, and when she first tried to bring it out, her Hollowfication was devastating. She literally caused the destruction of one of Rukongai's poorer districts, before taking the Hollow under her power. This was a pretty good time, 5 hours. In fact, because she'd taken the Hollow over so quickly, and so fast, the Hollow began to respect Kanako slightly more.

It was about this time that Hideo vanished. Her parents, at this time, didn't know about Kanako's own abilities, or her mask. Her contact with Hideo through telepathy... it was the only thing that kept her sane over the years. If she hadn't been able to contact him, to ask his advice, she would never have been able to ask him questions, get information. She would've been lost in life. But she endured, through the advent of new brothers and sisters, family that she never could connect with, not like Hideo.

That lasted until she discovered Bankai. It was easier than she expected, really. Hell, she had heard stories about how difficult it was, and she'd managed it after 35 years of training. Heh, made her wonder just how difficult it was for Hideo. I mean, she knew that he'd earned it, she just didn't know how easy it had been for him, that was all.

Then Zin came into the picture. Zin, her younger brother, had taught Hideo the ways of controlling his mask, and the ways of Ketteiteki Daigeki. So Kanako knew, that to keep up with Hideo, she needed to train under him too. She just didn't realize that she'd be able to do it, forgoing Resurreccion under her Hollow's council, and learning Ketteiteki Daigeki on her own, finally realizing her dream of becoming at the level of her brother. That was it...

And all that was left was to join the Corps, under Zin Yuudeshi himself, ironically.
