THE ETHEREAL IRAMASHA
MIRAGE'S DOSSIER
» Name: Laplace Ilva Iramasha
» Titles: Honourable Councilor
» Appearance Age: Young Adult
» True Age: 391
» Birthdate: March 17th
» Gender: Male
» Class: Iramasha of the Fata Morgana
» Affiliation/Rank: Iramasha Union | Iramasha Council (NPC)
» Height: 6'0 ft / 182 cm
» Weight: 170 lbs / 77 kg
» Purpose: Laplace is a central piece to a large plot I've been developing and has a few points of use in mind. He is to be used as a figurehead that can act on behalf of the Iramasha Union, and represent Iramasha as a whole from a racial and organisational standpoint. Someone intrinsically tied to the Iramasha Union who will not be used in any other capacity, and if he ever does I'll probably just re-app him to be a full-on playable character given staff permission. He can also be used as a character available to any threads that he would reasonably participate in on account of being an NPC, aiding in anyone wanting to get involved in Iramasha plot or lore. In turn, while as an NPC and an organisational leader, I'll also be applying for some hefty skills and tier but he will not be improving any of his skillsheets. Even ICly, he feels that he's hit an insurmountable bottleneck in his aether skills. Even if he is turned into a PC in the future, his aether skills will remain bottlenecked.
BENEATH THE FACADE
» Prideful: Laplace has a deep-seated inferiority complex which has him prideful as a defense mechanism. He doesn't do much to let it be visible of course, but insults and prodding will escalate beyond annoyance for him. In turn, compliments feed him like nourishment. The councilor will portray himself humbly, but deep down he craves nothing more than attention and recognition. He'll do what it takes to stand on the highest mountains.
» Ends-Oriented: Maliciously cunning, whatever it takes, Laplace is going to stand on the highest mountains, with the greatest recognition. It's why he relishes in being referred to as an Honourable Councilor--and one day, someone beyond that. He may look like an Angel Iramasha, he have grown up as one, but through and through Laplace is a devil. Whatever or whoever stands in his way, he'll excise. A million lives are of no value if a million lives are between him and his goals. It'll be as subtle as can be, since part of his cravings for recognition inherently mean good reputation, but that's all on the surface. So long as the skeletons don't bubble up, anything goes.
» Vengeful: Laplace knows how to keep a grudge, and just as well how to pay one back. As the Saint of the Mountain might say, "He has eyes, but can not see Mount Tai." It's not in the sense of those who merely "wrong him". Sometimes people do things that go against his wishes in an impersonal manner; Laplace isn't unreasonable, and he'll recognise that sometimes that's just the way business goes. They just need to understand that sometimes business can turn around and bite back, with tenfold the strength.
» Measured: It takes the capacity to walk with an even pace and tempo to be as ambitious and shrewd as Laplace, and more importantly find themselves in a position to guarantee results. Call him anything but impulsive, because as much as he wants to rise to the top with fervor and greatness, the Honourable Councilor is a patient man. He just knows where his values and thoughts are at, and he never lets them go. It's how Laplace can manage to maintain a grudge and remain ends-oriented. He has impeccable memory, and the wherewithal to act upon them, or wait until he does.
TRICKY MEMOIRS
The Ilva family were once royalty prior to The Great Divide. Though they relinquished their status as rulers of a domain within the Iramasha Realm, they maintained their pedigree and involvement in politics. An old, historic, and massively influential Angel Iramasha family, their descendants had expectations to meet. Fortunately for the two brothers, Laplace and Rudolph, excellence was their middle name.
The younger brother born the same year, Laplace was a stellar Iramasha, a full blown genius renaissance man. He grew up so blessed in both opportunity and talent that it felt like he was destined to inherit the role that many members of his clan had held in the past, Commander General of the Iramasha Guard. Those sort of praises in his youth did well to form the boy's self-perception early on.
He never faltered in displaying his capacity for academics and aether skills, but in some time his sensationalism fell. Not because he was no longer as brilliant in his early childhood as he was in the rest of his youth; the brightness of Laplace's talents were simply outshone by his elder. Rumours started to spread that Randolph would be the one to succeed the position. As rumours, Laplace at first dismissed them as heresay. He laughed at the suspicions; regarding their formal studies, in every turn Laplace outpaced Randolph. The illusion of his superiority only broke when he caught wind that even their own parents were of the same opinoin.
Laplace was distraught. Perhaps it was that his brother simply worked harder than him and, in areas he was unaware of, was beyond excellence. Fine, that was commendable more than anything. The boy was more than happy to have an excellent brother; all the more prestige for their family. But he wouldn't give up that easily. Laplace begun to apply himself with a clear goal in mind, now; not just to ride on the coattails of his own genius, but be even further beyond that, like the second coming of Kin Iramasha--minus the Devil part, of course.
He applied himself in the subject of his family's greatest influence; politics, public forum, combative aether skills. He wanted the public to know which brother was the more excellent one. Laplace even joined the Iramasha Guard and descended to Earth to participate in the war efforts against Shadow Fall when Mana first took over London, or in the clustered and haphazard Australia War where he gained a case worth of accolades. Despite all these efforts, the public opinion didn't seem to change. People continued to support Randolph over him.
A Devil Iramasha once approached him. They appeared out of thin air with such a minor presence, like a serpent offering meek hisses. They started to taunt and prod him, mocking him for the fact that he didn't even know why he was inferior, and how to catch up to his brother. Though he ignored the provocations, the Devil kept on speaking. She said his heart was dark, and people knew this. Truly talented Angel Iramasha would see the seeds of evil in his heart. More importantly, he had yet to manifest his aether class. That was when his attention was caught. Laplace put on airs and worked hard with his mastery over aether to fool people into thinking he was an Angel Iramasha of the Distant Lights. Yet, for whatever reason, he couldn't manifest one. His brother Randolph, on the other hand, developed his class when they were children. It was a point of inferiority that Laplace did well to push out of his mind and ignore.
The Devil said she could help him, and Laplace continued to ignore her. He faltered to the temptations when she told him that Randolph was being personally trained by the current Commander General to follow in his footsteps. These words invaded his thoughts, and he finally asked what she could possibly offer him. She told him her name was Saga, and that they would meet again.
Throughout the years, Saga came to Laplace whispering words of degradation to whittle him down. She kept coaxing him, having him grow angry at himself for his weaknesses, comparing him to his brother and belittling him. More than a few times, he was ready to strike her for her impertinence, but every time she hooked him into the idea that she could help him, but would only come when he was truly desperate. Until then, he'd have to struggle on his own.
During a scheduled meeting of the Iramasha Council, Laplace was assigned to be one of the guards to the council room, as an Angel Iramasha. His guard partner was a Devil Iramasha to make sure the doors weren't opened inappropriately based on either factions's agenda. The worries of any heinous action taking place were pretty low by now given the longstanding peace between the Angel and Devil Iramasha, but the customs of old agreements from the founding of the council still maintained.
Laplace stayed focused and observant, dedicating himself to his task as he did in all things. His guard partner on the other hand was talkative and relaxed, constantly attempting to engage in conversation with him. These attempts being met with silence angered the Devil Iramasha, and soon he went to mocking Laplace. For quite the long while, he did nothing but provoke Laplace, comparing him to his famed brother that even reached the ears of the Devil Company. In contrast, he had such a disappointingly boorish little brother. It sucked that Laplace was doing nothing but guard duty when his brother was being personally trained by the Commander General.
He snapped. In a raging haze, Laplace killed the guard. It was such a blur, he barely even felt in control of his body. As if waiting for it, Saga appeared and confirmed her suspicions of the darkness in his heart. That Randolph would never have been so weakhearted as to bend to the words of another. Truly, he was the lesser brother--but that's okay; he could just use the darkness to his advantage.
The noise of the fight and following murder interrupted the meeting; the council came out to see what happened and saw that Laplace had slain his fellow guardsman, a Devil Iramasha. Laplace was imprisoned for treachery and intent to start war. Whilst in his holding, Saga came to see him once more. She told him that she could take him out, make him free, absolve him of his punishment that was to be death. In fact, she coud help him attain more power, and to even succeed in attaining the Commander General position. By now broken and desperate, Laplace accepted. Saga said he need only accept the darkness in his heart, use it, and most importantly accept the aether class she offered him. From her own palm, a ball of aether energy entered his body. Laplace then became the Devil Iramasha of Fata Morgana.
Three days later he was released from prison. He learned that the council discovered Saga to be the one that controlled him, and that it was her at fault for killing the other guard responsible. Considering she was a Devil Iramasha herself and the one that was killed was a Devil Iramasha, an international dispute was avoided. Knowing the truth himself, Laplace felt he went beyond a line, to which there was no return. That there really was no other choice accept to truly accept that darkness in his heart and move forward.
From hereon, fully embracing this turned leaf, Laplace did all that he could to gain what he wanted. Whether it was to cheat, to steal, to plot, to sabotage, to betray, to kill. Paired with his own genuine ability and talents, it was difficult to stop his meteoric rise in power. He framed his peers ahead of him to remove them, he continued to lie about the nature of his Aether Class, and for the more difficult oppositions Laplace thoroughly stained his hands and blood. Laplace even consorted with members of the Devil Company, and in time he assumed his new position as a member of the Iramasha Council.
His popularity amongst the populace was powerful, with his youth and actionable fervor spreading like a contagion. Soon enough, amongst the Angel Iramasha Laplace headed the strongest faction, and with his allies amongst the Devils, even words from the Hybrid and Nature Iramasha communities weren't enough to stop him from making any motion he wanted in the council approved. These political successes reinforced his position amongst the people, a trust developed in him that drew support to even his most radical ideals.
NATURAL GENIUS
» Aether Control: A prodigy in his manipulating the aether. Provided no-one of greater aether control is within the vicinity, Laplace demonstrates masterful control of the energy to the most miniscule movements. His accuracy in moving the aether extends to nigh total control and awareness of what occurs through the aether in areas beyond even entire capital cities, like Karakura Central or Kokuryu City. At his level, Laplace could likely move whole mountains through the aether embedded in them.
» Aether Magic: A master of many forms and spells. Laplace has mastered the whole catalogue of available spells to him, made public through his connections with the Devil Company, Iramasha Guard, and even fellow councilors. Though he hasn't done much to be able to make his own custom spells, if there's a skill in active use that isn't exclusive, he probably knows it, all the inner workings to it, and what it takes to both cast and counter it. He becomes a formidable oppponent for anyone reliant on magic themselves, even of other races, simply due to his technical skill that enables him to match them blow for blow.
Amongst the several types of Aether Magic, Laplace is an exceptional expert in spells surrounding curses, hexes, and jinxs. In a lot of ways, they're the most subtle means of "influencing" opponents and allies to achieve your desired results, and a real easy sort of magic to practice in privacy. Laplace's curses are skillfully casted, enough that many of their effects may go undetected and inactive until years later, during a time where tracing the sources of the magic becomes excruciatingly difficult--in case someone ever did suspect foul play on one of his victims.
- » Hell Summoning: One of the only subjects Laplace struggles in, namely due to the difficult in practicing it. Had he more time or freedom in action, Laplace believes he could come to master this subject as well. Unfortunately, to maintain airs that he is in fact an Angel Iramasha, Hell Summoning can only be used when he is certain that there aren't any eyes on him that could compromise things. His skills extend up to bringing forth minor disasters natural disasters and impish creatures that follow his bidding, formed directly from the external aether around him.
» Aether Arts: Though he isn't as diverse in the several forms of Aether Arts as he is the innumerable spells of Aether Magic, Laplace has honed his skills in a select few forms. He primarily relies on spell casting from a distance in combat, so he has little need for crossing distances himself. For those foolish enough to believe him lacking in close combat, when they draw forward and strike him in arms length, he unleashes an overwhelming ocean of firepower. He can take command of the aether that comprises his own body and modify them. In an instant, his strength grows tenfold, and the weight behind his blows becomes monumental. His body is a weapon in itself, and just a thrust of his finger punches holes through blocks of lead.
- » Empyrean Vessel: Laplace's most skillful application of Aether as the culmination of both his abilities in Aether Arts and Aether Magic. When summoned, a large sapphire eye appears behind him, and his own eyes match its colour and glow and his whole body is enveloped in a blue glow. The reach of his Aether Arts and its manifested effects reaches beyond twenty times his height (36 metres), reflected in the reaches of the blue glow around him that takes a vaguely humanoid shape. Though his Aether Magic extends further, by merit of the magic being translated immediately through his body, the actual conjuration of the magic and its effects are twice as fast, and the strength of each blow hits like a whole battleship.
» Aether Armament - Horizon's Edge: Laplace's Armament is a long staff, with a length greater than his own height. Humble in its appearance, Horizon's Edge is an extremely dense rod of aether energy. With a simple swing, the end of the staff seems to cut into space itself and slice it into two realities. The appearance is akin to seeing two different images up close to each individual eye with their appearances overlapping, except closing one eye or focusing in on one image does nothing to stop the distortion of the two spaces. As if whatever can be seen is shifted and overlapping on itself. The distortions on two apparent realities starts from where the area in space is cut, and begins spreading out up to 100 metres around him. There are no visible distortions oustide of that area. In his base state, Horizon's Edge is only able to conjure the appearance of two realities, only an illusion and nothing in actual reality changes except a refraction of light. The illusion works both through energy inducing the appearance of two realities, and light being curved into two individual appearances. Thus, Horizon's Edge works on both a physical and spiritual level.
BEYOND TALENTS
» Ether Morph: Immersion - BLEEDING HORIZON: The area within his reach of Aether Control blurs, and the entire space has light constantly bouncing into forming multiple images overlapping one another, ever-changing. Even the stillest objects appear to morph in shape, distance, size, and clarity. No object looks certainly where it is, how it is, except for Laplace's own form. Laplace is exceptionally clear in appearance, like the centre of a world where everything becomes unfocused except him. In reality, Laplace's actual body is an inverse of the surroundings, where his body's shape, form, size, and distance is every changing, being absurdly difficult to ascertain. The actual point in which his body occupies is nebulously in wherever he can be seen, and as a result precise attacks on his physical person fall short. Attacks with a wide area of effect are the primary means of reliably hitting him.
» Six Corners of the Horizon: Laplace's wings separate into six individual bodies, each hosting one wing on their back. Each individual body receives no visible damage when attacked, though they can attack and offer the same full force of Laplace's real body. In fact, individually, Laplace's real body is inaccessible. For him to receive an attack properly, each body needs to be hit. All the bodies must take an amount of damage equivalent to one sixth of what would normally incapacitate him at his normal durability. If one of the bodies has taken the requisite amount of damage, they still appear active until all bodies have been sufficiently hit, but they can no longer deal any damage or have any effects. They just remain as an illusion. Once all bodies take enough damage, the Six Corners of the Horizon is forcibly disengaged, and Laplace is brought back to one full form, where he takes six times the damage.
» Horizon's Edge: Laplace's Aether Armament, normally a staff, is split into two swords, each being able to slice reality. In Bleeding Horizon, rather than only conjuring a mirage of two realities, there are tangible effects caused from the slice. Once reality is split, each of Laplace's attacks can travel through both realities and meet the same point, doing twice the damage. This skill can not be used in tandem with Six Corners of the Horizon, as the Aether Armament is not actually multiplied for each Laplace.
BEYOND COMPREHENSION
» Ether Morph: World Fusion - SOLE TWILIGHT: Normally, a World Fusion form has the Iramasha become one with the world. For Laplace, an inverse is applied wherein which he takes the world to become one with him. In turn, his energy hyper condenses, and all the aether in the surroundings that he can reach out to, determined by Aether Control, is totally absorbed, with no latent external aether available. In turn, his body becomes an overwhelming mass of energy that even his own mirages can't hide. Even without his intentions, space and light around him twist and turn such that his whole body is a warping mirage. Without external aether to manipulate, the world of mirages besides himself also ceases. In turn, Horizon's Edge is also absorbed into his body. Because of the amount of energy absorbed, Sole Twilight is sustainable for long enough, at least until the completion of a fight.
At this point, his body is no longer even physical--just a mass of energy clumped together, fading in and out of physical interaction. Like a mirage himself, physical attacks won't reach him, only a progressive onslaught of energy-based skills and magic to destroy every part of the aether comprising him.
» Horizon's Edge: Having absorbed it, its effects are now translated through Laplace's own body. His own hands, or any part of his body for that matter, can conjure a split in realities to deal double the blows.

» Aether Armament - Horizon's Edge
Rewrite this to make more sense, clarify more beyond the matter of "it looks like there's two realities" since the general person probably won't make much sense of that.
» Six Corners of the Horizon
No. Fix this. You can't have six bodies that need to be hit simultaneously, all at the same potency with enough damage done for them to reform, even if he takes six times the damage upon returning back into his whole body.
» Horizon's Edge
Are you high? Remove mention of working with Six Corners of the Horizon.
» Horizon's Edge
You're not getting a fifty percent damage cut, for the whole thread, after you nullify physical attacks already.

Aether Armament - Horizon's Edge: added explicit mention that it's like two overlapping images, and that it's only an illusion in base form.
Six Corners of the Horizon: Changed so that you have to attack each body with what 1/6th of Laplace's normal durability can take, and it doesn't have to be simultaneous. Once a body has taken enough damage, until the rest of the other bodies take their requisite damage the body stays up but only as an illusion; it can no longer make any attacks.
Ether Morph: Immersion - Horizon's Edge: Removed mention of it being able to be used in Six Corners of the Horizon.
Ether Morph: World Fusion - Horizon's Edge: Removed mention of getting a fifty percent damage cut.
