Righteous Right Hand Man [Yaksha/Alex]
Sat Feb 13, 2021 4:34 pm
Yaksha, The Überseele
It had been a remarkably long time since Yaksha had first stopped by Vastime's capital, or had an opportunity to pay attention to the goings on at their base of operations at all; his own city had kept his hands full even with the aid of a thousand additional eyes and ears, all reporting directly to him at all times. But he couldn't help but feel a slight twinge of disappointment when he realized so little of it had changed.
It all felt so dreadfully similar, it almost felt like he was experiencing deja vu as he looked down every street, through every window, at every structure. He felt like he had lived here his entire life, or countless other lifetimes. It was hard to express into words just what prompted this feeling, particularly since he'd lived so many lives at this point, that memories from across the gamut of time and space had begun to congeal into something like sludge on the corners of his mind. No amount of scrubbing could get rid of the tar-like gunk that had begun to boil off from a million souls in one place, all dreaming the same dream.
But today, he didn't feel especially tired, or even wistful. He walked down streets that were far more devoid of people than he'd expected to see; this place resembled Jefferson more than any major city, a place where something awful had happened and kept happening, long afterwards. And as the ground rumbled beneath his feet, Yaksha was spontaneously reminded why; something -would- happen, and very soon. Something he couldn't stop, any more than he could've stopped the arrival of the mad god Nagato on his old home. Whatever disaster was about to ensue, it would happen...or not...entirely heedless of him.
He wasn't here to save a city, or the world. Both of these things were beyond him, after all; he was not of this world, but merely a passerby. Someone disconnected from the order that others had imposed, the cycle of life and death. He was a creature that had gently sidestepped reality when it had come time to pay the piper, and who now simply watched things happen to and by others.
No, he had come simply to save a home. His own home had been a place that he had grown overly comfortable in, too ambitious. It had been obvious he would meet resistance, and he had been too complacent in the belief that he'd have time to see it coming. But it had been swift and relentless, as if the ground itself had opened up to swallow his ambitions whole. There were precious few survivors that the world knew of, and even fewer who considered what he had started worth continuing.
One of them stood out amongst the others as a man that Yaksha would be utterly remiss in his duties if he let the man be at ground zero for -another- disaster. And so he knocked on the door of an old friend, one who he'd first met by threatening to kill him and harvest all of his organs if he didn't work for him, and now considered to be as close as if they were brothers. He leaned his arms against the doorway, making no real effort to shroud his reiryoku as he waited to be invited in.
After all, I would not blame Alex one bit if the first thing he told me was 'I'm out.'

ALEX
In a situation like the one in Vastime, it was really in Alex's best interest to try and keep it cool. That didn't necessarily mean he was staying totally calm, given this situation definitely merited a pretty significant degree of worry. But freaking the fuck out wasn't gonna help at all, so instead he just focused on the here and now, getting everything packed and making sure his little girl didn't get scared of what was going on.
And then...well, wasn't that a fuckin' surprise. It was a real good thing he was keepin' it cool, or he'd have blown a gasket for sure. Instead, he just took a deep breath, adjusted his collar, and went right to the front door. He opened it, saw the guy behind it...
Well, he ended up throwing a mean right hook anyway.
"Pretty wild fuckin' time for you to decide to show up, eh?"

Yaksha, The Überseele
The door opened on a sight Yaksha hadn't realized he missed as much as he did; the relaxed posture and sheer sense of -normalcy- that radiated off of the person on the other end of the door, that sense that he had managed to see countless horrible things, never-ending troubles and stresses, and come through it all fundamentally the same person. There was something distinctive about humans, something so down-to-earth that he truly loved and longed for once more. They seemed to approach nearly everything as if it were simply the new normal. And few exemplified it better than this man.
Yaksha let himself simply bask in the presence of a familiar person for a few moments, and his aura was clearly and obviously one of delight, or perhaps even comfort; it seemed like he was letting out a sigh after a long time, as if he were suddenly shucking off a suit of armor that had surrounded him. He seemed truly vulnerable for the first time in ages, like he had dropped some invisible wall.
At that exact moment, Alex took a sucker punch, and the hollow reacted faster than most people could possibly comprehend, with a decisveness that characterized himself in the extreme. He slipped one hand in towards the human, starting at waist level and raising to Alex's shoulder smoothly and easily, like a well-oiled machine. He didn't even brush against Alex's arm as he moved, leaning in closer.
His other arm went in low and looped around Alex's waist, while he took a half-step forward, leaning in closer. Where he had stood a moment before, he now was nearly stooped in place, the blow several hairsbreadths above his face as he finished his embrace. From around the waist, and from over his shoulder, the alabaster limbs moved to embrace Alex, clearly conveying his excitement.
"Just so. When have you ever known me to be anything but wild, Alex? Untamed, rampant, free. I do as I please, and go where I please. I shit where I eat, I swear fealty to no one, and I choose for myself who is my brother. I wanted to see you again, Alex. And it seemed like there would not be a better time for quite a while."

ALEX
Alex, in dealing with most people, probably would have quite quickly responded to this massive display of faggotry with a solid influx of heat. However, given who it was, he was instead willing to just roll his eyes and accept the gesture.
"Yeah, yeah, I feel you. You know I was pretty fuckin pissed after Vegas, yeah? Almost went and got myself killed in Hueco Mundo once, Nel n' Hayden were there to keep things chill. Not sure if I agree about there not being a better time, if anything I think there'd probably be a lot of better times to stop in."
Shrugging almost casually at the whole situation, Alex did a rather remarkably good job at hiding the fact that, honestly, he had no particular idea what the fuck was going on. Then again, that was sort of the problem, wasn't it? He wasn't the kind of guy who ever really knew what the fuck was going on.

Yaksha, The Überseele
"Would not, Alex. Future tense. There have been quite a few good times to show myself, but none...quite perfect. And I have had a great deal to keep me busy, unfortunately. It felt that it would be disrespectful to walk back into your life if I wasn't ready to give you the full breadth of my interest. For you have always been worthy of no less than all of me, Alex."
His tone was wry, even when his face was completely blank; there was something there that seemed to make it clear that he knew exactly what he was doing, and that he had no intention of stopping. Something about Alex brought out a far more laconic mood in Yaksha, made it easy for him to do any manner of ridiculous things he knew would be no different from suicide with others. Perhaps it was their shared history? Or maybe it was that Alex himself always seemed to give such an aura about him that he would simply follow with anything if given the chance.
"Mana lost. Surprising no one, I would say. I had quite a lot to do, and I couldn't risk having Nagato arrive and go interfering once again, so I had to avoid garnering too much attention. But now there is something even worse coming right here in Africa, and I daresay by the time people notice what I'm doing then I will have set down roots. The difference this time is that I need someone like you with me, Alex. No one will accept me unless you do. I came here to ask you, Alex...to accept all of me, as I have all of you. And to let the world see that we are not enemies, or at cross odds. Let us put this childish race war behind us, and work on making Earth better than any other place in existence."

ALEX
"Oh, all of you, eh? You really are a charmer. You get all the girls swooning over your magnum Hollow cock with talk like that? I'd invite you in, but I'm pretty sure you'd scare the shit out of my little girl. No offense."
Alex very much allowed Yaksha far more leeway than he would give to nearly anyone else. There would always be the fact that the Hollow had saved his life, but honestly, shit like that didn't matter in the fuckin' slightest to him. No, it really all just boiled down to the fact that he liked Yaksha, called him a friend. Nothin' more complicated.
"You're askin me a lot, you know. I'm gettin' married, I've got a kid. Feels like every time I'm ready to settle down, one of you fuckin' people asks me for somethin'."
Hayden's recorded words still echoed in his head. They echoed right alongside the chiding he'd gotten during his ass beating a year ago now. That sure was a friend he'd let down, wasn't it? The thought pissed him off, more than he'd care to admit. He had a responsibility to his family, didn't he? To his friends.
"I'm not putting them into danger. But I'll do whatever I can for you. That's just how friends roll, isn't it?"

Yaksha, The Überseele
"A child. And a wife! A lucky man you are, Alex, and I am glad in the extreme to see that you've come this far. I do hope you don't consider it just a touch arrogant of me to take some credit for your success, but in the end...well, I -am- a selfish beast, I suppose. I consider your success to be my own, and I feel your loss as profoundly as if it were myself."
His hands drifted back to his side, as he examined the air around them, head twisting faintly to either side; it gave off a purely atavistic impression of a bird for a moment, accentuating those enormous wings of his. But then it faded, and the man simply seemed to pause, as if he were searching for the right words. Around Alex, everything seemed much easier to understand, the vast majority of the annoyances and irksome criticisms from the amalgam of souls quieted, the endless concerns he had put aside as he simply enjoyed the company of one of the few humans on this plane who tolerated him.
"I always have asked a lot, Alex. But it is simply that, and nothing more; I do not intend to force you, or even ask a second time. I simply wanted to make it known that my aspirations are not so fragile as to be fractured by a mere king. And that I am far from gone from this world. I know you are quite happy and content here, and I know that to pull up roots would be a monumental request. I simply...wanted to see you. And to tell you to watch closely, from this moment forward. There may come a moment that you decide for yourself that there is something in this world you still wish to see, or say. I know you well Alex, and while I don't deign to say that you have limitless potential or anything so trite, I will simply say...that you know as well as I do that it is the obligation of the elders to pave the way for the new generation. Whether you are there, or your child, I wish to bring back that peace that has eluded us for so long."

ALEX
"I'd be dead if not for you, so you got me there."
Alex's tone was still pretty casual, the idea of getting heated pretty far from his mind now. of course, Yaksha was one of those people who really liked to make everything sound like a big deal, and that did grate on Alex a little. Not like he got mad at Yaksha specifically, more at himself than anything.
"I don't think I'm much of an elder, my guy. But, then again, I don't care much about the big picture, either. Never really have. Long as my girls are safe , that's all I'm too worried about now. Besides, my lady's not big on violence, and I've noticed most people aren't really into talking things out."
Shrugging that thought off, Alex then continued on.
"I usually get dragged into all this shit one way or another, though. Hard not to when you've got a couple people to protect. I'll be around, don't worry about that one. Whenever some big shit goes down, I'll probably hear about it."
