Regardless of his appearance, Ira's mind is very much that of an old man, but at least he is one who is always in good spirits. If he sees someone making what he'd consider a mistake, he'll certainly offer them a word of advice, even if it may not come across perfectly given his appearance. One might expect that being underestimated in such a way would annoy him to some degree, but in truth it does not bother him in the slightest. He is exceptionally lacking in what might be called good sense, and has spent a great deal of his life in the pursuit only of a good time, though it can't be said that he's the sort to get into much trouble.

Of course, despite his lighthearted demeanor, Ira is still an old man with quite a few years under his belt. He has seen much in his life, and while for the most part it was nothing truly terrible or awe-inspiring, there is still naturally a certain weight on one's shoulders that comes with age. As such, Ira often seems to get a bit nostalgic or melancholic at times, and looks back on his youth with some regularity, though it is easy to pull him out of these musings simply by reminding him that he is youthful once more at present. Of course, the circumstances behind that offer him a certain degree of melancholy as well, perhaps even moreso, but at the same time it is a reminder of his newfound purpose in life.

There is very little that bothers Ira on any significant level, but the one thing which quite genuinely upsets him is to look in the mirror. It is not that he hates his new appearance, rather quite the opposite. Seeing the eyes that look back at him fills him with a grief he cannot possibly express through mere words, and as such he will often avoid any reflections like the plague. This is the very reason that he abandoned the sea, despite having spent years upon it. He simply cannot stand to see those eyes.


It would not be an exaggeration to say that Ira's life, for the most part, has been rather plain. He has spent much of his time alone, as his wife passed away in childbirth, and in raising his son without her, Ira often needed to work far too much to spend any time with the young man. Such was what brought him to the sea, and Ira pursued a life of fishing simply because it paid the bills. He knew what he was doing, and he came to love the waves for providing the catch that would pay for his son's upbringing.

Of course, life is not always kind. In the end, Ira's son married, moved away, and had a child of his own, but seemingly no sooner had this grandchild been brought into the world than her parents were taken from it, a simple car accident killing them both. The man was devastated, of course, but he raised the girl, little Ada, with every bit the same love that he had provided for his son. He could not always be there for her, but he always ensured that her life was the best it could be. Yet, fate was still cruel, and Ada proved sickly. The hospital practically became her home, but Ira did not waver. He simply worked all the harder, spent more and more time at sea, doing everything that he could to pay for the best possible care.

It was, however, not enough.

At only 12 years old, Ada passed away as well, and Ira was left with the one light in his life now gone. But he would not give up, not yet. There was rumor of an island far to the south, that came and went seemingly as it pleased. He was not a superstitious man, but he also knew quite well that the world was not a place he could ever hope to understand. It was said that the island was home to a spring which could move the life of one into the body of another. If he could give his life to Ada, then he would do so without any regrets. He set sail immediately, and waited in the place where the island was said to arrive.

It did not, however, arrive as one might typically imagine. The place he had found was something of a rift between Earth and the Iramasha realm, and the island was but an extant segment of that supernatural plane. Nevertheless, it housed the spring which Ira had heard tale of. He brought Ada's body into the waters, and waited. At first it seemed nothing had happened, and yet, all at once, he simply...blacked out.

When he awoke, he saw only the sky, and felt seething disappointment in his chest. Of course something like that couldn't have worked. What a fool he'd been thinking he could bring her back to life. Yet, when he sat up, the first thing he saw was, seemingly, his own body. A younger man might have panicked, but a sailor sees many things through the years that give them a certain degree of calm even in situations like this. Looking down at himself, Ira recognized his body. Well...Ada's body. It was not the outcome he would have much cared for, but he supposed the stories had been true. His life had been transferred to her body.

Ira left his old body behind on that island, seeing no particular use for it, and returned to land alone. He would have been content to return home, and eventually find some manner in which to return to a normal life. But not even a week had passed before World War 4 began, the whole of the world upended. He could have, perhaps, stayed in Florida, but he imagined that would be rather unsafe. So he traveled where he could, frankly looking to protect the body he now inhabited. Naturally his survival was in the forefront of his thoughts as well, but there was a constant nagging feeling, the thought that it would be upsetting beyond explanation if this body he now inhabited were to be hurt. Hearing of a haven for refugees across the sea, he made his way first to California, and then, if a bit slowly, to Minatumi Harbor.

Of course, it turned out there was yet more catastrophe there. It seemed there was nowhere that he could simply be safe and live a peaceful life in memory of his granddaughter. If that was the case, then he would simply have to fight for that peace. Perhaps most would not expect such a thing from a young girl, but he was no ordinary girl.


Lily of the Valley: While some souls of more questionable moral fiber might call Ira's state a blessing, he rather calls it a curse. Simply put, despite his age (and gender), Ira's body is that of a 12 year old girl. There is quite literally no benefit to this, though his soul is very much still that of an old, if strong, man.
