Damien Crow
Damien had accepted a minor role as an educator this week to kill time. Being retired wasn't much fun for him. He was well regarded for his control over his reiryoku among other things. He got a lot more credit then he felt he should. Entering into the classroom, he directed the kids outside. Walking over to a stump on the grounds he sat down. His arm continued to garner stares which had been common. Damien lost his arm some time ago due to circumstances beyond his control. He wasn't from a wealthy family nor did he spend money that way. The old man just decided to stay with his right arm. Losing his left while a bother didn't mean much. Damien offered a smile as he sat. "That's better, less stuffy don't you think?" Damien was going to educate them on it. "Commonly energy or Reiryoku is used by us in more explosive displays. Fine control is something often not practiced. Now before any misunderstandings arise. I speak of the power to channel reiryoku to places on your body and strengthen them. He said knowing that the kids were still staring.
Damien merely smiled it off as he explained reiryoku to them. That it wasn't merely a single faceted thing. It was vast and proper training could be a weapon itself. It did require practice and time, not everyone was suited to it. Some people had gifts in other fields. "Not everyone is suited for it, but don't dishearten over that. You all have skills and capabilities that are special to you. Power isn't the only thing to have, Captain Commander Abalia is known for her cunning and supreme intelligence. So remember that while not every class may be for you, they give experience." Damien didn't sound condescending or try to preach. Bringing his only hand upwards he focused all his reiryoku into his index and middle fingers. Hitting the ground with them he focused the energy from his fingers. Making a square burst into the air. Landing on his palm as he sat and observed the reactions.
He'd mostly accepted this job to meet someone. Ulv Aubar was the instructor who helped here. So he'd grown curious to meet her, not as though he got any other exciting opportunities. They had a fine teacher already, he just gave a small lecture. Some would heed it, others would ignore it. That was the nature of the beast. The young were generally that way until experience knocked.

Slumbering some on a rooftop on top of Shin'o, Ulv was half spending her break wisely, half absently pondering vizard shunko, and half testing to see if there were any students adventurous enough to come see why there was a maid sleeping on the roof. None of the second, but she was somewhat interrupted by a guy coming outside and holding a lesson of Reiryoku and it's uses in self-empowerment. An art that Mirja was instinctively excellent at. Though Ulv was not so good, her arts moving away from stiff, extreme power to focus more on the flowing watercourse way of her Dao.
Still, it was Damien, and Ulv did need to revenge her loss against that man. Though Mirja could probably have taken him at her prime, the fight they had was not at her prime, so it was skewered. Getting up and drifting down, she landed gently and nodded to the children before to Damien.
"Reiryoku control is very important for anyone who is looking to specialise in Hakuda. While some people think it's just for Kido, a strong grasp of your inner energy will enhance your Hakuda considerably. And then once you've got that under your belt, there are combat styles like my own Ursa Takkeyeon that rely on good energy control"

Damien became silent letting Ulv Aubar speak. She was an instructor here and had plenty of motive to do so. He didn't think ill or say who stole my thunder. Damien merely smiled and sat silently. "It's as Master Auber says, many practices and styles do require a fine reiryoku control. Many fields require good control over it. Some requiring great control over it. " Damien slowly put the bit of earth back into the hole. Almost like a plug sealing it up neatly. The puzzle piece fit nicely as he rubbed the back of his neck. So this was Master Auber as well, she felt like a good person to him. Someone who'd learned through life and many lessons. Nothing an old man like him could teach. She knew more than him he imagined but such was life. "For a start-up, why not try imagining your reiryoku like water from a wave. Crashing across your feet, feel it pooling around you. Then attempt a flash step once you feel that it's properly around your feet. " Truthfully he'd give them good marks for just getting it to the lower half. It was a rather general usage of reiryoku.
But this time they were more aware and keen about it. Damien put a hand on his knee before rising. Walking over to Ulv Auber he held his hand out and smiled. "My name is Damien Crow, it's a pleasure to meet you, Master Auber." Damien regarded her with politeness and was kind. Offering his only hand out as a sign of respect and happiness that the children had a good teacher. His lessons were old and in some cases outdated. His watchful coal eyes did keep glancing from her to them. Making sure their progress was alright. Didn't want any of them getting hurt trying to step. Thus he remained prepared to intervene if need be. Damien wasn't the fastest shinigami around. But he could catch them at the very least. Or Master Auber could as well, he suspected she was far faster and stronger than him. Mere deductions based on stories he'd gotten to hear. About her skills and Hakuda capabilities.

"Just Ulv. Nobody here is a student of mine, least of all yourself, Damien" that tone was a familiar one, like she had known him a fair while. It was a thing that she slipped into on occasion, forgetting that not everyone knew of her heritage. The kids learning Reiryoku control was cute to watch, and she could understand why someone would come here to teach.
"It's nice to see you again as well, Damien. Keeping busy is a good sign of one's heart still being alight with passion" she told him, shaking his hand while she watched the children. "Wonder if telling them how flash step ties into martial arts would be too much...."

Damien sensed a familiarity to her but he couldn't place it. Damien felt touch hands those of a Hakuda person. They were different from those who walked zanjutsu or kido. Texture-wise it was something one had to experience. His eyes coming back to her as he shrugged his shoulders a bit. "They are the next generation, my time as a Captain and to some extent, a Kenpachi is closed. Unless the Captain Commander requests otherwise. " Damien didn't mind spending time helping the youngsters. Made his days interesting far more then they would be anyways. Sitting in the Division with the retired people was tiring. It felt like keeping busy seemed the best way forward. "Couldn't hurt, though I worry one of them is going too." Just as he spoke a child blasted themselves forward full throttle without knowing what they'd done. Damien's hand reached out and merely rested on the kid's shoulder. "Easy, the idea isn't too force every single ounce of Reiryoku you got through your feet. You need to let it come across like a breeze gentle on your skin. "
Damien had caught the child with one arm and set him down rather easily. Damien didn't have a hand to clap with so he did the next best thing. " Hoho connects to many things. Martial Arts and Hakuda especially, I'm no specialist in that field. So why don't you turn attention too Ulv-san? She can illuminate that for you further. " Damien checked the child over making sure no injuries came. It seemed like he'd just used himself as a cannon without realizing it. Damien could only internally chuckle as he knew it would happen. Children often underestimated the reiryoku inside them. How to use it and more importantly how it was wielded. That was the core element they needed to focus upon. But Hakuda was vital for many he guessed would become those types of fighters. Damien had an odd style due to his handicap of one arm. Ulv was a better-suited instructor on the connection between them.
This would also take the focus off rocket boy.

Certainly took many blows to the head. Damien seemed incapable of keeping to a topic or subject, and just sort of bounced about them like a pinball. Somewhat to be expected with these senile people though. One kid made a cool explosion of a movement, which would have been great if he had any sense of control at all.
"Shock Step is a viable thing for speed" Ulv commented, releasing a similar blast and soaring into the air, flipping from the momentum to land on a platform and then returning with a theatrical spin. "But the more force you put into it, the less control you get out of it. So you need to be good before doing it or you'll not be doing much for a while"
Ulv then thought for a moment, and carried on when her words were found.
"Though, building three bridges at once only ensures you have no bridges, come the end of the day. Focus on one thing at a time and you will grasp it much easier"

Damien Crow
Damien smiled he wasn't so good at this sort of thing truthfully. Teaching others while he could do so. It was better for a one on one thing, his teaching entire groups weren't so refined. He'd been spending a lot of time as a swordsman and fighter. He rubbed at the back of his neck a bit as he looked. Letting the proper teacher begin her education on the subject. Damien didn't mind letting Ulv do this part. He was a guest here on the Academy grounds. Merely here to give some pointers on Reiryoku control. She was the real deal and much further along than him. He sat on his stump now watching them closely. His coal eyes observing and not cutting in on it. His smile was kept the entire time never fading. Damien could learn things here as well despite his age. He was one of the oldest living Shinigami presently. Stories of the old days and some education on forgotten history. Damien would have been better suited to teaching them old crap. Reiryoku control while a specialty of the Crow family.
Was a dying art along with his kin, not to mention the little fact that Iriko had slept with a demon. A fine Captain Commander he turned out to be, though it seemed those two did plenty of damage. Iriko and Tsubasa both left scars on this place. Ibiki had tried to heal them and now Abalia did her part. She was capable and smart, this would be an interesting time. They were part of a generation that was changing things. Turning a leaf over as they changed internally and externally. It was the fascination of time. Once upon a time, grizzled veterans of war were required. Now they needed a more balanced and capable sort. Zaraki Kenpachi was the last of his kind from his experience. Those who enjoyed the battlefield immensely and specialized in the killing. They'd long since hung up the blades they wielded. Damien was among those on that list, teaching youngsters about the new age. But Ulv was a better instructor for this age and place. It was an acceptable difference in life for him. A child ran over and decided to ask the question, how old was he. Damien smiled chuckling to himself a bit.
"Well, I and the dirt have something in common. We've both been here too long." He said joking with the girl getting a small laugh out of her. As he nodded back to Ulv reminding her to pay attention.

Kids were happily kicking along, practicing their flash steps because it was going to get them good at Hakuda. The disconnect they had would be solved eventually, but Ulv would deal with that if hse needed to. Someone else would deal with that if it came up in their lesson time.
And then, she would look to Damien, her maid's dress flutting a little as she turned and looked at him. She was silent for a few seconds, and then spoke with iconic Ulv tact and gentleness about the subject.
"So who's nicked your balls, Damien? Why are you starting this whole old man shit now?"
