I. Personality Traits
» Personality: To fully understand Blades, one must know how the contributing factor of their life affects her; that being her unfortunate defect from birth, the disease known as 'Ueta Chi', or 'Starving Blood.' Through the support from her family, and despite most of the time this disease was killing her, she always had a good work ethic, wanting to do as much as she can to pursue her dreams. She loves to improve herself, and though she was hindered from doing so effectively due to her body's physical condition she trained herself to try and get physically more athletic, so she could keep up with everyone else. This obviously failed. Though her insecurities has caused her to stray away from long lasting relationships, due to not trusting others as much and being pushed around, she still tries to be kindhearted and generous, helping those in need whenever possible, while still not completely discounting the prospect of something more long-term. This can sometime lead to misunderstanding, depending on the circumstances, and also brings to light her more dense nature, sometimes not really getting what's truly going on and skipping over the finer details. Short-term relationships tend to keep her going, even if deep down, that is not all she wants, but she can't trust herself to be able to put anyone through their issues, and figures they are better off not worrying about her in case, one day, she succumbs to his defect. When those walls are finally broken down, however, is when they can see a portion of the true her; a sad, pathetic weakling who just wanted to be a normal girl, like everyone else. No matter what Blades goes through, her indomitable will is what truly keeps him from kicking the bucket and giving up to the horrors of life.
» Likes: Smithing - Blades dream as a child was always to become a blacksmith, which is partially why she works so hard on her body. If she isn't physically conditioned, it'd be much more difficult to run a forge. Though this love extends to all forms of Smithing, weaponry is what would be her forte.
Cooking & Food - As one of the only activities she can do without actively hurting herself, she loves to explore the culinary arts and eats pretty much all the time. Rice and Dango are her favorite foods, and she loves root beer.
Art - Another hobby Blades got into as a result of their inability to do more taxing activities, she works hard on drawing due to the fact it would help her a lot in terms of designing items to smith later in her life.
Swords - If her name didn't give it away, she loves blades of all kinds, from the simplistic to the complicated. Her favorite type of sword is the double-edged longsword.
» Dislikes: Loneliness - Blades has a crippling fear of loneliness, which is unfortunate since it gets capitalized on the fact she doesn't trust herself with longer term relationships in most situations.
Dragons - For whatever reason, Blades has never really liked anything draconian in nature. Whenever she sees one, all she can think of is wanting to slay it and eat it.
Darkness - Blades hates the dark. It is as childish as it sounds; she needs a night light at night to sleep.
I. Character History
» History The story starts with Blades being born with a rare illness that pretty much 'decided' what the most of her life would be like. This disease is known as Ueta Chi, and when translated into English means 'Starving Blood'. This crippling condition causes the victim's red blood cells to attack their own body internally at any and all angles possible. If it weren't for the quick work of her doctors, this would have killed her after she turned five years old, as whatever activates it does not appear until that threshold. The only known counter to the negative symptoms was confirmed to be blood. Human blood seemed to work the best, but as that would be morally unacceptable in nearly all cases, replacement pills were prescribed to her, and her grandparents were instructed to also feed her any other sources of safe blood, such as that from rare beef.
Despite the sorry state her body will be left in later in life, the situation could have been much worse. Being abandoned by her real parents at birth for unknown circumstances, her grandparents are the ones who took care of him, alongside two cousins that he'd call brother and sister while he she grew up. These folks were decently well off, allowing them to deal with the critical conditions caused by her illness, and to provide a comfortable, safe existence alongside that. Physical therapy helped a lot as well, allowing Blades to at least function semi-normally as she grew.
School life for Blades was rough, as her weakened physical condition and incredibly sheltered personality led to her being quite the pushover. She was ridiculed for being unfit, for looking scrawny, for not fighting back, for being nice even when people were clearly picking on her, and all sorts of other excuses to put her down. As much as she wanted to let people have it, though, she just figured it wasn't worth the trouble. Instead, she focused on her studies, and eventually learned about the magical world of blacksmiths, and her talent for drawing. Something else also occurred, however; her 'Soul Detection' manifested.
When Blades hit the age of ten, she began to gain glimpses into the spirit world. It started with voices in her head, whispered into her ear at night and occasionally during the day, making her believe 'invisible people' followed her around all the time. This was crazy talk to most, obviously, but as for her own view on it, she was actually right - the ones who spoke were indeed simply out of sight for her. Another year passed, however, and she woke up one day with a ghost sitting on her bed and reading a book. The screaming confused the crap out of her grandparents, but she decided to not make a big deal about it anymore, realizing that she was the only one seeing and hearing any of this. From then on, she spent her life walking among the spirits of the dead and damned, either tolerating their existence or sometimes speaking with them when she got bored or lonely. It was easier than making real life friends, anyway.
The last entry of note to her story before the modern day would be when her grandparents finally passed on. Losing two out of four of the only people she truly cared about left a huge negative impact on her psyche, causing her to recluse even more than she usually does, but it didn't come without any positives. On the day before their death, her grandfather was able to depart some wisdom upon her; that the world wasn't out to get her, despite the crazy situations she got herself into, nor from what her illness was doing to her fragile body. In the end, they loved her, and she at least took that to heart. On top of this, knowing that his granddaughter loved weapons - especially swords - one of her inheritances happened to be a blade that he specifically created for the girl. It was a thousand folded, aluminum double-edged longsword, with a golden lustered hilt and handle, said handle equipped with blue leather bindings. It was simple, and somewhat ornate, but the materials it was made of allowed for her to play with it without much trouble, while still being strong and effective. It was definitely a gift she cherished, and will love forever.
Present day, Blades works at a local sushi shop called Madai. Though it wasn't bringing her close to what her true dreams lay, it was easy for her to handle, dealt with food, and paid her decently. She's on her senior year in highschool, and has her own tiny apartment in the midst of Karakura City, providing her with the bare essentials. She still continues to train her body, hoping to bring herself to a normal level one day, and practices her drawing skills by making designs for weapons, armors and more she wishes to create one day. A part of her wonders if she was missing something vital in her life, however...perhaps she would get to fixing that soon.
I. Equipment
» Equipment:
- Featherbrand:
» Item Name: Featherbrand
» Item Type: Blades only
» Used For: Offense
» Item Description: The sword itself is a simple double-edged longsword with a blue handle and a golden cross-guard. The metal used to forge it was aluminum - known for being lighter than, but near identical in strength and durability to steel, hence its industrial applications. The length of the blade is 37 inches, and in total the actual sword is 43 inches long. What sets this blade apart was the fact that the technique used to forge it was the same traditionally used for katanas. As such, though it is thinner than a usual, standard grade longsword, its just as durable, and lighter as a result, allowing for someone as physically weak as Blades to wield it without too much trouble. Other than that, you'd just treat it as a regular sword, as no magic or spiritual effects are actually associated with this weapon.
» Obtained From: Inheritance from grandfather

I. Natural Abilities & Skills
» Skills: Perception - Blades has an above average perception...compared to regular humans. She's not going to be seeing thousands of miles away, or smelling a scent to track it forever, but she can pick out little details regular old people could not. If blindfolded, she could move around without too much difficulty, but she wouldn't be able to fight.
Agility - Though she isn't particularly fast, she's at least flexible and intuitive in comparison to a regular human. If she had the strength to do so, parkour wouldn't be too out of her reach, and she always colors within the lines.
Intelligence - Compared to a regular person, she's decently intelligent, allowing her to think of new ways to improve her craft, although it does not apply too much during battle due to her anxious nature as of now.
Crafting - She's very skilled at the design and infrastructure of anything blacksmith related, and actually has physical application of chemistry and the culinary arts to fall back on as well. She could create a bunch of neat little trinkets and weapons, if she had the materials and workplace to do so.
Weapon Knowledge - Though she doesn't personally fight too often, she has vast intellectual knowledge on every man made weapon that isn't classified information, and as such would be able to wield them effectively if her body was up for the task.
I. Other Supernatural Abilities
» Powers: Spiritual Sense - She has the simplistic ability to sense spiritual energy around her, and see spectral entities. There's nothing more to this, and it scales based off her own perception and five senses.

I. Roleplay Sample
» Role Play Sample:
- 'The Trial of Fates':
- It was bitterly cold in Hyogakure’s tundra forests this day, inches upon inches of snow blanketing the ground and dusting the prickly leaves of the evergreen trees, although there was no snowfall as of current. The area itself was not all that dangerous on the outside, the large brown trunks of the pine making the bulk of the scenery, with occasional, tiny shrubs, and winter-capable berry bushes dotted around. Some said that deeper inside, however, lay a treacherous terrain never before seen in all of the land, so despicable in its cruel painting of mother nature that none have survived entering its bowels since the beginning of time. This place also held monsters, poisonous swamps, rabid ninja from a time long passed, and even cursed weapons.
Yet the Hayai-ashi are sending a twelve year old in as their initiation trial.
Raised by the remaining elders of her broken, forsaken clan, Kuro Zenchō, nearing her graduation at the Hyogakure Academy, was tasked with entering the deep depths of the tundra in order to grab a special flower that grows in their type of climate, located directly in the dead center of the woods, known as the Viola. They only bloom in such conditions, so its valued not only for being a beautiful addition to the drab, white landscape, but for its insane endurance as well, said to resist rainfall and snowfall alike during its lifespan. Kuro’s parents and clan mates have built up this place to be terrible and wicked her entire life, so she’s forever dreaded the day she’d be sent here, to either be made into a woman, or to die by the hands of fate, as so many others have before her. Yet she did not cower away from her duty, wishing to prove to herself, and everyone around her, that she was a true kunoichi, through and through. If she had to face death, then she welcomed it with talons bared.
As the young girl stepped her way through the wilderness, making it deeper and deeper with each hesitant, feathered step, only a kunai in her chilled, shaking hand, she wondered genuinely if she was ready for something like this. She was decently built for a kid her age, as tall as five foot two and sporting a toned frame with her pale skin and sharp, focused yellow eyes, but the fact she was told no one has ever survived this meant that even superiors in her clan have fallen to the beast. Why did they think she could do it? Maybe they just sent her here to die. After all, she was always considered an omen, the three-pronged raven claw birthmark on her right cheek indicating as such. Her birth foretold the tragic end of their proud family, and she was plagued with visions back to that day, so detailed in fact it came from different people’s point of views. It would make sense to get rid of her now, after raising her to believe she could still be something great. But she’d show them.
Then she saw it. A plain, dark oakwood sign erect at the edge of the heart, clearly labeling, “Dangerous Road Ahead.” This was it. The relative safety of Mother Nature was now to be replaced by the malice of her painful hatred, her true colors under the tyranny of man. Frightened, she stood still, as frozen as the icicles that hung aloof from the green pines, her entire body shuddering at the very idea of being gone forever once she stepped forward. Darkness crept from every corner of the depths’ being, to the point she could almost hear the laughs and cries of the souls trapped within, her vision fading in and out, the snarls of incredible creatures ready for new meat to tear into, and the intricate sounds of chakra being molded by the crafty hands of Shinobi embraced by insanity. She could not waver, though. She was so close, and despite her wild fears, she could not let this emotion swallow her whole. That was not a feeling she was allowed the luxury of, if she wished to truly be a kunoichi that upheld the values of her clan. So, closing her eyes, and taking in one last, deep breath, the moment she exhales, she makes a dash into the entrance of these accursed woods, kunai in hand as she boldly faces her greatest - and likely last - challenge.
Kuro would hide behind the nearest tree trunk once she heard the howl of a husky wolf in the distance, the flat of her free palm resting on the rough bark and her posture straight against the wood, her breathing slowed down as to not attract it. The atmosphere was thick and heavy, the light of the sun barely shining through the density of the massive plants that blocked it, leaving only darkness to corrupt the world around her. It felt like she had already been here for hours, her clothes tattered and her skin and face covered in scratches and bruises, so the last thing she needed was to be mauled to death by the wildlife. Lucky for her, she covered herself in a thin layer of mud earlier, the wet, caked dirt masking her human scent with that of the ground, but her sweat was peeling away at her disguise slowly, so she had no idea how long she had before anything caught her scent and targeted onto her anxiety and paranoia. When she thought it was clear, she scanned her peripheral vision, and looked around the trunk, before running forwards once more, her footsteps light and with little noise so long as she avoided stepping on leaves or pinecones.
More hours passed, and she was at the point of wanting to scream, the frontal leather breastplate she wore cut completely in half from the hulking, massive beast tailing her, an amalgamation of shadows that took the shape of a wildebeest mixed with an owl, with piercing red eyes. A pack of wolves she encountered earlier kept to her left, wishing to feast on her as well, and a Shinobi made of shadow running at her from the right with a katana in hand, combined with the owl beast, had her at the ropes, her feet beginning to grow tired and her body sore and bleeding, the only thing keeping her blood in being the tightness of her clothes. Laughter filled the air, mocking her failings in her trial, insinuating that she would fail, that she was not worthy of her life. Stubbornness and a will to live kept her going, though, at this point the focal point of her vision lying directly on the field of Viola and Yellow Primrose, her mission. If she could just get to them...maybe...maybe she could stand a chance. She could escape after she grabs the viola, right? Did she have the energy? Would they catch up?
Struggling to breathe, the air in her lungs struggling to oxidize her bloodstream and going sore from overuse, her legs burning in a desperate need for rest and hydration, and no longer being able to hold onto her kunai, having long since dropped it, she ran the last few feet towards the field of flowers, and with a leap, she strained to grasp at the green stem of a Viola, ripping it from the seam. At that moment, the beasts were upon her, and she knew she was about to die, but it didn’t matter, as she believed she made it farther than anyone else had. This was the end, but she’d die completing her duty. So she closed her eyes, and...opened them again, to realize something was off, after the sharp cry of a raven bird shook her from her trance. Her body was only scratched slightly, her clothes fine, no longer injured and bruised. Only a breathtaking field of winter flowers filled her field of vision, with the sun shining brightly upon them and her, the gentle chirping of other birds silenced by the raven that perched on a tree nearby. She slowly sat up, shivering, eyes watering with tears, as she realized that everything she just went through was false. There was no darkness. There were no bloodthirsty wildlife, or criminally insane Shinobi, or a swamp, or fire, or nothing. It was just regular wilderness, with the flowers being the only interesting part.
Only then did she realize that it was all in her head. It was made up.
Kuro was alive, and had the gentle plant in her quaking palms. At the prospect of being alive, just this once, she gave herself a moment to sob. In the end, she was human, like all Shinobi, so even if she was meant to be the tool of her Lords, she still had emotions. She was grateful to be alive, thanking those above for not striking her down where she thought she would, her warm and salty tears staining her cheeks red. Maybe she wasn’t as hated as she thought, only pushed as hard as everyone else, this being another test. It was harrowing, but as she stared into the eyes of the strong raven overhead, knowing she was a little girl no more, she promised herself she would speak of this day nevermore.
