Blood Kuchiki

Takehiko Kuchiki
おだ たつや

Takehiko had left as soon as he got the summons. His uncle was requesting his presence now. Not just now but right away so he returned home. The Kuchiki gently moved his Lieutenant badge a bit nervous. Byakuya had taken him in and likely knew the events of Bejing. His failure to save all those people as the wall crumbled. But he'd also been working extra hard. Taking training camps from as many as possible. He wished to request his uncle's aid in training further. But first, he needed to know why his uncle had summoned him. No point sticking your foot in your mouth right away. As he walked through the hall a thousand different thoughts flowed in his mind. What could his uncle possibly want from him? He didn't have the answer to that question or any other. Could he be in trouble for having used his zanpakuto? His uncle had sent express orders to not use it. He swallowed a bit feeling his nerves build inside him. He was a bundle of them just as when he met the Shihoin head. Takehiko just didn't have a large degree of skill at this.

Though the question could be asked why Ulv didn't make him like this. It was a different sort of nervous with her. She made him anxious for entirely different reasons. She was someone that was frightening on a physical level. His uncle was terrifying on every single level imaginable. He'd heard people claim him to be a robot. Which he often denied saying his uncle was anything but. Uncle Byakuya was a kind man. Despite his mistakes beforehand that caused him shame. Forging the name to enter a prison. So many bad choices he'd made in progress. Slowly he found that his answers came less from that. His powers were dangerous by their very nature. It was like exposing a flame to gasoline. He only had one choice ahead of him. To continue but more carefully about it. The pain was a byproduct of how his power worked. As he entered the area where his uncle likely waited. He pushed the door open offering a bow. Before sitting down upon his seat and smiling. "You've summoned me, sir?

Takehiko didn't know how his uncle would take that. But he wanted to stay as calm as possible. The summon didn't have details or anything. His uncle didn't strike him as a surprise kind of guy. That seemed more like Arianda's thing then Uncle Byakuya's. He held his trembling inside of him, not letting it come out. It was obvious that something was up. He'd gotten promoted and been busy with his paperwork. That the previous Lieutenant and the Captain alike had left him. It was a tiring ritual for him to perform. Over and over again stamps and paperwork beyond compare. He thought his job as a seated officer was hard. It was more paperwork and duty to keep eyes on the younger members. That was the nature of his work now. Babysitter to a Captain's needs and a watcher over the young members of his squad. Could be worse he thought to himself before his eyes of azure remained steadily on his uncle. This was an important part of everything. b

Why was he called before the Kuchiki Clan head?

It wasn't hard for him to keep tabs on what Takehiko was doing. Bejing and Madness City, an event that couldn't have happened at a more iconic time of the year. While he was proud of Takehiko for going, defending the innocent to the best of his ability, there was something else that bothered him more than anything else. He wasn't able to stop the demise of the wall, but more than anything, he was relieved and glad that he was back here, alive. Thus, as the young man entered, Byakuya merely waved a hand in response.

"Come in, Takehiko. There is no need to be formal."

For a time, the Kuchiki Head was silent, his eyes focused on his nephew, contemplating on how to approach what was on his mind. Unlike any time before, Takehiko would be able to see a distinct softness to his gaze, yet still held an air of mystery and complication. Several minutes passed with this eerie silence before Byakuya finally let out a quiet sigh.

"I know what happened in Beijing."

He paused, looking over his nephew before he finally spoke, his voice serious, and the features of his face as impassive as ever.

"Are you ok?"

Takehiko was used to the formal customs of the Kuchiki. Informal things were almost as rare as it raining dogs. He relaxed his shoulders a bit now feeling at ease. Takehiko's expression saddened. He thought about Bejing very often almost every moment. What could have been different if he'd gotten Bankai would it have helped? So many questions as he inhaled through his nose not sighing. But beginning to speak as he looked at his uncle sadly. "Truthfully, not as much as I'd like to be...I can put on a brave face for the Kuchiki Clan in public. But..in private..I am always wondering if I'd trained harder or done more." He said softly as Takehiko wondered if maybe it was the effort he lacked. Thus training as much as he could have slowed down. Takehiko did train occasionally now but more focused on subjects. "My zanpakuto, it wasn't complete at the time so I had to fight recklessly..even if I managed to call reinforcements in. Had I stayed as both a medical specialist. Perhaps I could have discerned a way to save more lives..But the wall was in danger as well.."

He was merely letting one of if not the only person in. Uncle Byakuya was the most precious to him. As a healer, he'd not managed to do his duty very well in that regard. He brought his unit in the only after he was too battered to do more. But it shouldn't have been that way. "Right now, I need to start training for Bankai..I can feel it off in the distance. But I also must train my Hoho and Zanjutsu skills. Uncle, I would like to ask you for help..Or wisdom in this pursuit to try and better myself. " He said it as he lowered his head now. It was time for him to learn his bankai. Or start that road towards learning it however long it took. That was the objective going forward now for the younger Kuchiki. Takehiko knew he had much to learn and absorb. But his uncle had been a pillar of the Gotei. "Before that, I want to ask you, something uncle..What does it mean to be a Captain?" Takehiko wanted to know the answer to this most of all.

Byakuya only let out a quiet sigh as Takehiko responded. He figured that someone like his nephew was attempting to seem strong. He knew that the boy was always trying to live up to the standards that he as the Clan Head had for him, the other Kuchiki Elders, and his peers in the Gotei and the nobility as a whole. While he did try his best, in his own way, he was still young, and his head was still in the clouds.

So, as he brought up the topic of Bankai, Byakuya merely said a single word, given with the authority only someone such as he could give to Takehiko.

"No. You are not ready."

His eyes slid open, icy steel came from the gaze of the Kuchiki Head. The nature of his Zanpakuto was dangerous for anyone, especially someone so young, naive, and reckless. Even in its weakest state, Takehiko's inexperience and constant desire to rush progress were what caused his Zanpakuto to be as such. But, taking a deep breath, his gaze softened as he closed his eyes once more, rising from his seat as he stepped around his desk.

"Before you try and reach such a milestone, first learn to master what you have. Familiarize yourself with your Zanpakuto's powers, their strengths, weaknesses, and learn where you can improve before trying to attain Bankai."

Now standing in front of Takehiko, he continued:

"Furthermore, your general skills should never be forsaken for the sake of attaining power. If that is the case, then you are worthless without your Zanpakuto -- a weakness that nobody in the Gotei or the Kuchiki possess, nor should any competent Shinigami possess. For now, we will focus on mastering your Shikai and those general skills. Perhaps in doing so, you will understand."

As he finished, Byakuya took a moment to allow Takehiko to respond -- something that would bring him to further silence. What did it mean to be a Captain? It had been a long time since he had commanded a division, and the time that had passed since then would without question change a man's answer to such a question. He took his time thinking, but, eventually, he would answer.

"That...is a complicated question, Takehiko. What it means to be a Captain, in general, I suppose...is to ensure the law is upheld. To be an example for your underlings and to always show the reason why you became a Captain. To show loyalty to the Gotei and unwavering resolve to obey their orders."

Takehiko did not argue when his uncle responded with a no. He merely accepted it and understood it entirely. His lack of mastery was a large part of the issues going forward. He watched with his eyes as his uncle moved from location to location. Standing up as he listened to what a Captain was meant to be. He would engrave that into his heart. The Law must be upheld and protected without hesitation. The unwavering resolve of the orders given and many things that he imprinted into his heart. To be an ideal Shinigami, he wore a mask sometimes. He'd lost power since Ulv's incident. He wasn't a vizard anymore. And his uncle could tell he imagined how deep that wound was. He did not hide it or pretend before him. His emotions were also completely out of whack. " Yes Uncle, I will strive to bring our family honor and do whatever I can to help aid in the Kuchiki family." He said without a moment of hesitation or doubt in his voice. Though this was the most he could accomplish at the moment.

His uncle could spur some emotion from him and so could family members. Hoho and Zanjutsu were skills he'd not developed entirely. His eyes had become a steel grey color now over their normal azure. They looked to his uncle as he spoke now aware some training would come. He had no alternative but to master his zanpakuto. To learn the ins and outs of the power that was that of Shinjitsu no Mizugameza. His zanpakuto's true name that had remained hidden from him. It was something he was unaware of. Not to mention a completely different release command. It was troubling how far off his zanpakuto was in reality. But that came from having his head in the clouds. His focus was like iron-on where his uncle suggested. "How do I proceed uncle?" Was his next question towards Byakuya. He would take better care to take care of his skills and development. For that to begin he would need to grow his attempts. This was something he needed to do. Not just because it would make his Uncle proud. But because it would save him.

That was the nature of Takehiko's growth he was trying to establish himself. Trying to become more useful for the Kuchiki Clan. They were a powerful clan and with his relatives all busy and learning. He couldn't put them in danger, he would bear that burden should it come. His eyes looked on with a steely gaze as he waited for Byakuya to continue. It was hard to relax yet before his uncle still unnerved a bit by him. He had worked on his Hoho in his early days. Attempting to mimic his uncle's skills. That was something he found himself doing often. Trying to mold himself after what he deemed the perfect Shinigami. That was what Takehiko spent his time attempting to do. Trying to grow himself into a better Shinigami and grow his power further. That was his objective, in the long run, going forward. To be as effective and useful for the Kuchiki Clan. But to be a good Captain someday in the Gotei.
