The Silent Kuchiki

Takehiko Kuchiki

Takehiko had been missing for a while in terms of time with the Unabara. He now had information and stuff he'd not had previously. Getting his hands on the network they had of information. It was like finding a goldmine but what he did not know. Was how the creatures known as Dolls came to exist outside of Tsubasa Unabara. He did not understand his uncle's mind in any way. Henrex and Ulv were unsure in this sense but that was the great thing. His uncle had either pissed off or made friends in many places. Documents in the information network showed a female. By the name of Angel who worked in Karakura. So next came his arrival to this place in general. Now he would have preferred a nice entrance which was cool. That had some style points to it, but instead, Jezebel being the cruel woman she was. Decided to drop him from the sky on to the floating Karakura. He fell upon the ground unable to break his landing entirely. As the Garganta closed his azure eyes glared upwards. "Damn you, Jezebel, couldn't you have just put me down gently!" He sat in a small crater he formed from the impact.

Angel was the person he came here to meet now as he stood up a bit shaky. Inhaling for a moment he cracked his joints back into place. Feeling slightly uncomfortable about the entire thing. It was true he could mend any injuries he got himself. But that wasn't the point as he looked around. Walking around now before gently finding a bench to sit on. This place was huge and he didn't know the way to anywhere but the prison. Also if he showed up on the radar for too long. His uncle Byakuya would unleash a search party. But he needed some conclusion or answer to things. It wasn't like he had any clues to go on at this point. Angel was his best bet. But finding her in this place without going right to the Vanguard Base and announcing like an idiot I'm here. Takehiko rubbed at his sore back now feeling pain from the fall. It had been rather hard landing all things considered. Sighing he leaned back and looked up at the sky.

Mostly musing about the fall he'd just taken from that height. So the only one who remained with knowledge of his uncle and dolls. That was Angel of the former Vanguard, she was said to be a genius if not more. Also, something about her looks but that didn't register with him. Questions without answers that neither Ulv or Henrex could provide. Maybe Angel could enlighten him on Dolls and more so what this legacy was he was carrying on his back.

The vast majority of her day had gone without a hitch. Frankly the hours had passed her by without a clue as to whether it was night or it was morning. The lab and makeshift junk and tinkering area she owned in Karakura Town was but one of many. There she pursued some of her hobbies of welding, and putting together droids as well as testing new means and methods to more efficiently engineer prototypes. From time to time, she even took on the habit of fixing appliances or simple pieces of technologies some of the neighbors had difficulties with. There were other lesser known but no less important duties she performed there for the Gotei, but those were swept under the rug and kept a closely guarded secret. Unlike some of her other labs, this one housed only herself and her personally created Doll, A.

Halfway through fixing the cooling linked to a chiplet based droid module, one of the sensors in her working area went off. A fairly recent and fairly new energy signal had broken into the locale. There was nothing inherently worrying or dangerous about it. Had that been the case, those to whom it mattered would have dealt with it before she had a chance to leave her place. But alas, curiosity was something that dominated most of her life; it extended to her choice of work and beyond. Although a large part of her curiosity had been sated after remembering just about everything from her past, including her old name, Crystal, and her former position as the Captain of the R&D, there was far more that puzzled her.

“I’ll be back shortly,” said Angel towards her aid.

“I may or may not come back with a guest, so please, try and maintain a presentable work area and disposition.”

With a sight and a nod from her aid, the Doll was off. With the aid of a droid, she stepped into a glowing golden mirror of energy and likely into the area of her choosing. Tracking the source of the spiritual signal both through her means, the droid, and with the help of the network already established in the city, she was there in no time. Several meters above the newcomer, a golden mirror of no more than 10 meters in diameter would have opened up. From it, a fair skinned woman with short silvery white hair stepped through. Holding onto one of her hands, a small but sturdy droid helped her levivate and eventually float until her feet safely and carefully touched the ground. With a gentle and loving pat to her droid, the latter left them be until he was needed once again.

“Excuse me, sir?” said Angel as she approached the bench carefully.

“It seemed as though you had a rough entrance. Are you in need of assistance? Should I call the authorities or someone for you?”

There was clear care and concern in her voice. The blindfold would have looked out of place unless she was actually blind or some form of modern world cosplayer. Her outfit had a lightly modified look compared to the typical dress she usually worn. This one still had the same properties; doing a near perfect job of hiding any lingering spiritual energy while looking decently nice. At the same time, this one looked far closer to what a Shinigami would wear. The black on her outfit, the hair band, and the blindfold contrasted well with creamy light look of her smooth skin and her hair. She was certainly odd, but hopefully not too difficult on the eyes. She’d show no signs of possessing a dangerous or deadly weapon, not even the standard zanpakuto most Shinigami were inherently linked to.

Takehiko Kuchiki

His eyes opened looking over the newly arrived guest. She was attractive certainly but the blindfold was a strange addition. Though who was he to talk on that subject given he hid his throat with a scarf. She was the one he came here to see that in of itself was a fortuitous moment. But could he express everything he'd encountered to her? The millions of Mod Souls found in the Unabara Shack yet without bodies of their own. That was another matter as the Soul Society had deemed them illegal. But Takehiko didn't think they deserved to die for being made, that was a folly of their creator. Rubbing the back of his head he heard her questions before getting to his words quickly. "No, no I came to see you, as a matter of fact, Miss Angel." He said trying to dissuade any calling of guards or people of official positions. Takehiko swallowed trying to best decipher how to tell her this. He didn't wish to overload the woman with information. Takehiko thought for a moment deciding that the best place was the beginning.

"My name is Takehiko Kuchiki or Takehiko Unabara. My uncle is Tsubasa Unabara, my father was his brother. " He said touching his chest as he spoke now. Before gently pulling down his scarf so the massive scar could be seen. His throat had been restored but it certainly looked as though a sword had cut his neck. "I've met my uncle once, he slashed my throat when I tried to attack him. " Takehiko didn't know if this provided relevant questions or points. Sighing as he tried to gain some strength for this next point. "My uncle if you are aware now is arrested within the Gotei, I'm trying to understand why he walked the path he did. What legacy has been left to me as an Unabara? I under the Kuchiki side well, but the Unabara far less so. " His eyes held a purity as did his heart when he turned azure eyes on to Angel's form now. The big question he came for wasn't that but something else entirely.

"I also need to ask, where did the Shinigami Dolls come from? What are they made of and is it possible for a Mod Soul to inhabit a Doll body? Takehiko said not letting on to the rather strange inheritance he'd gotten. In that place but trying to talk to her without giving his location to his uncle Byakuya at this moment. He could ill afford grounding or his uncle discovering that place. For the fate that would befall those souls wasn't pretty if it happened.

She listened as he spoke, understandably being interested when he cited her name as well as her being the reason for his visit. Thanks to his descriptions she was able to become far more familiar with terms she hadn’t heard in a while, and with faces she hadn’t observed in far too long. At the same time, she was able to understand and admire emotions in a way she thus far had not..until the moment she remembered everything when facing Kyu. The Doll was able to be at the very least far more capable at understanding the distraught and the struggle of emotions the young man before her dealt with. Unfortunately, though her memories had returned, her sight still had not. When he lowered his scarf, the sensors that allowed her to obtain mental pictures of the surroundings did help her notice it. But she was completely unaware as to the presence of the scar on his throat until he mentioned it. Before, she could have easily confused it for hair, dirt, or anything else entirely due to the limitations in the ways she ‘saw’ things.

“Tsubasa,” she said with a subtle smile that neither meant happiness nor regret.

“That’s certainly a name I have not heard of in a long time, and one I have not seen ever since my own inception.”

“I was not aware he was imprisoned, but given our link, I can understand why that information was thought best kept away. You do have many questions Mr. Kuchiki or Unabara. Unfortunately, neither of those are the questions I am freely able to answer here, though you’re welcome to come back with me to my current place of stay.”

In an instant, the android pod from earlier rushed before them, creating the very same golden mirror no more than a few feet ahead. Despite the blindfold that covered almost half of her face, there was what looked like a subtle smile adorning her expression as she looked his way. This one seemed far more genuine and free, if such a thing was understood by his mind. For the last few days, the woman was able to give advice and feel compassion for feelings she simply had too much trouble understanding before she recalled her past. Those were details that likely would come into question and into her answers as she tried to help Takehiko, but that was a bridge they would cross when they got to it.

“So, will you join us then?”

Takehiko Kuchiki

He felt a bit of hope slip away as she said neither were things she could answer. Takehiko hadn't found a solution yet really about the problems. His eyes looked mystified by the robotic entity now. It had created a golden shimmering mirror as his eyes looked over it. This seemed to be a transportation mechanism of some sort. Perhaps dimensional teleportation of some kind? Takehiko stood up looking over it not out of concern but curiosity. Takehiko found these things so fascinating and almost impulsively had to look. Leaning back he closed his eyes thinking for a moment. It was such a curious thing he'd not seen before. Though that wasn't saying much for him, it was still different and out of this world for him. Inhaling a bit he walked through the portal content to see what happened. Little moments were the most interesting for him. Things like being transported into a different location. It was like getting ideas all over again. Thinking of things you could accomplish by crossing kido with such.

It was an alluring possibility when explored in the mind. He said nothing as of yet as she said their present location wasn't suited to it. Takehiko couldn't have asked for much else. She was listening and giving him a chance to explore things further. Even if he didn't get informed about the earlier things. He could easily learn a lifetime about technology here. Including whatever Angel's specialty was in this regard. Though he didn't have the foggiest idea about it. Angel could of a blindfold specialist for all he knew. But he got the feeling she knew her way around machines. Better then most people did and Takehiko grew up in a low tech family. Kuchiki were staunch traditionalists. Everything was done in the old way for their record keeping. Each member was especially gifted at certain techniques. He'd read stories about Uncle Byakuya before. But until he got the push to leave home and explore he didn't know how off he was. Takehiko didn't realize just how outdated some things were.

But within that same light as he looked around in wonder. He could only feel a sense of awe at the presence of this place. Takehiko couldn't figure any of this out even given one hundred years. Deciphering the magic and wonder of her workplace would take at least one thousand years for him. He didn't claim any special skill or above-average reiatsu. He was a failure in the academy down to the letter. Well aside from being very studious in kido and Kaido based techniques. Takehiko had become very effective as a healer. Perhaps the one place he outmatched the other students. The lengths he would train and work himself to were extraordinary be it physical or mental. "Amazing." Was the only word he said when entering this place.

With a nod, she motioned for him to follow her. As she stepped into the golden glass like entrance, it was as if she was entering a surface made of water despite very clearly being energy based to some extent. Despite appearances, he would notice his body did not get wet as he passed through. It was almost as if the energy itself was creating a data readout of whatever passed throiugh, as if asking permission and allowing passage through as per Angel’s command. Once the two came out on the other end they would be met with a simple but nonetheless pleasant sight. It was a fairly sizable but neatly kept front patio that led to the home that served as the lab in this locale. The front patio had its grass neatly mowed. There were several flowers in specific areas, most of them white, which seemed to resemble the golden patterns in her black haori, and the design on the black headband she wore.

”This way,” said the Doll as she led him towards and through the door.

Despite her blindfold it looked as though she could get around without constantly stumbling or bumping into every item in their vicinity. It certainly made most question just how blind she was, or rather the skill and resources necessary to accomplish such a feat if she was. On the inside, Takehiko would be met with quite a sight. The living room, if one could call it that was quite spacious. There was more than enough room to walk through its center, with thick and long tables pressed against both sides of the walls. Each set of table held hundreds of different tools of different shapes and sizes; from wrenches to bolts and screws, wires, and much more. There were also a number of electrical components and strange metallic materials housing some strange liquids. No doubt each and every one of them was necessary for one or another project the girls were working on or testing on. Speaking of the girls…

”What’s up,” said a voice from further back in one of the tables.

The girl sat with hands on her thighs, giving a quick wave to the boy before going back to polishing what looked like a rusty head of a droid. She had a long white hair that was surprisingly similar to that of Angel. Her outfit was of the same black color as hers, though far more casual. It consisted of black boots and matching short shorts and a high riding black top. She didn’t seem overly enthusiastic about anything in particular, though she certainly seemed to be focused on her work.

”That’s A,” said Angel with a smile as she motioned for the boy to continue following her.

”She’s a Doll as well; I made her myself, and she’s very special.”

As they walked through, the two of them would come up against what looked like a dirty gray wall. With a swipe of her hand, the color on the wall would vanish like reishi visibly did in the presence of a Quincy...likely an odd reaction for a Shinigami. Regardless, the wall would change to reveal instead what looked to be a wall of a glass like material. From the outside one could see a room even larger than the one they were in. It had an enormous table and another set of tables on either ends with even more peculiar pieces of technological equipment. Once in the room, he’d notice that just about every wall was made of the same glass like material, meaning they could see into the outside, and A could see in towards their area too. While Angel walked into the room and picked a chair for herself, a lot more would happen closer to the boy. While he took the time to find his chair or stand if that was his choice, items from the tables would begin to move. Several droids no taller than a hand and in the form of toys would sit or stand on the tabletop and wave and smile at the boy. No doubt they were all technological wonders. And while none of them were Dolls, they were very advanced droids and robots. Each and every one of them was special, and it was evident in their smiles towards the three of them, and in the smiles Angel gladly returned back to them.

Takehiko Kuchiki

Mechanical marvels were the best term Takehiko could think of. This place was ahead of the Gotei's Research and Development by centuries. They'd jumped into a different place entirely. This place was a vault of wonders and very mystifying for him. The Kuchiki being such staunch traditionalists that used old methods. Didn't rely on this jump in computers and robotics. Takehiko didn't believe replication on his part would ever happen. But the dolls looked completely different from the droids. It was as though the technological jump was far ahead. His eyes were just wide with shock and awe. Waving back to the one known as A. She was made perfectly without showing off any signs of being different. Angel could help him with his goal. He swallowed feeling nerves swell inside him. This wasn't possible for someone to listen in or incriminate him. Takehiko glanced around feeling a sense of security in her superb technological skills. He could divulge what brought him to her. What truly left him no other alternative in this case.

"I..I'm going to be as transparent as possible. I feel this place is safe and won't put them at risk." He felt a shaking in his hands as he was frightened. He knew the risks of coming to someone else. "When...I became Takehiko Unabara officially. I came into an inheritance from Uncle Tsubasa. One Million Mod Souls are protected within a secret place. I desire to give them lives and bodies so they need not fear destruction by the Gotei." Takehiko didn't know how Angel would react. He quickly prepared and explained himself now. "They are people and have rights, they should be able to enjoy their lives freely. Without fear of someone else coming in to hurt them." Takehiko said it almost protesting the idea they weren't people. Not because of anything Angel said but because of the law. He didn't believe it fair to exterminate people simply because they were different. Mod Souls though made by the Gotei could be helped.

"I feel, it's my job as Takehiko Unabara to provide them with bodies and the best life possible. They are my family now and I will protect them even if it means breaking the law!" He'd said it rather passionately before covering his mouth now. Understanding that he may have said too much as he sat in stillness and silence. He'd just overstepped and he knew it completely. The Unabara Legacy feel into the lap of a complete novice. He'd just doomed those souls of bodies. He could feel a despair clutch at him deep within. Takehiko didn't believe that all laws were bad. But he took exception with the destruction of mod souls. For some reason, this one resonated strongly within the young Vizard. He couldn't sit idle while innocent people were hurt. He refused to do that under any circumstances. They were a family and more so a group of people deserving freedom. They'd been abused by creators for so long not given a choice. Takehiko was hoping to give them some choice.

But also to provide something even more for them. Bodies of which didn't indicate what they were. Perfect bodies that came from the Shinigami Dolls. They didn't belong to either left or right. Takehiko didn't know what to make of it all. They were especially different from anything he'd encountered. He had little knowledge or skill in engineering. He was a medic at best with skills as a healer being his strong suit. This was the best he could do, come to the master of Dolls and ask her. He could only bow his head low and hope for the moon.
