I. Basic Information

» Name: Mae Leigh
» Alias: xX-OcUlAr-L1gH71nGXx
» Age: 15
» Gender: Female

» Affiliation/Rank:

  • Obakeyashi High School

  • Obakeyashi Ghost Hunting Club

  • OcUlAr Sniper Clan based in the video game ‘Called to Service: Contemporary Battlefields’.

  • No affiliation with an Organization.

» Physical Appearance Description:

Feminine and modest are good terms to describe the girl’s appearance. Having developed earlier than most of her peers in many respects to femininity Mae is frustrated and pleased in equal measures at many opportunities. Pleased because she can wear outfits that others would find less appealing and enjoys a more mature look but frustrated in that she finds it difficult to connect to others her age due to her appearance and other social anxiety issues. Despite that she is overall happy with how she is or has turned out, if only because it lets her escape more horrors from her life with ease and occasionally buy certain items (video games) that she wouldn’t normally be able to because an employee didn’t card her, so it isn’t all bad.
Caucasian decent, Mae doesn’t have completely pale skin, a bit more color than not, but it’s still obvious her heritage. Golden Eyes mark her face with distinction and compliment her hair color nicely. Blonde hair drapes over her head and she tends to wear it long, down to the mid of her torso if she can help it. Sadly, this length is great and terrible, as it takes forever to prepare in the morning especially if she wants to try more off the wall hair styles, but it’s great in that she can do so much with it. Thankfully born with straight hair it’s easier to style for her, but harder to keep in the style, which is why she changes it up often and just makes more work for herself.

I. Personality Traits

» Personality:
A soft-Spoken individual Mae is content to observe rather than comment. Being the most noticeable of her traits her soft speaking tendencies lead to a reputation as a shy individual, however this is far from what she truly desires. Her passive tendencies are a habit she grew into due to her home life and how she is treated there whenever she speaks “out of line”. Brutal experiences scar her mind and render her careful in her choice of words and tone, manifesting as a trouble speaking in public, especially in front of crowds. Only when she is in the mid of something she loves to do and her mind has wandered far enough away from the source of her many torments does her real attitude blossom forth into a more relaxed and easily spoken vibe, though as soon as it is done lest the lingering joy persist her attitude reverts to her ‘normal’ state of being quiet and observant. Her soft-spoken tendencies proved problematic for garnering new friends, but thankfully due to the expressionism she gained while doing a task she enjoys, the young girl has managed to gain a few friends along her short life’s journey. Regretfully, Mae can’t share everything that plagues her mind with her pals, instead she’s forced to keep some locked away in the tormented recesses of her young mind due to the fear of reprisal branded into her by her Aunt and Uncle.

Such fear of the potential outcomes keeps her isolated and afraid even when she is others, she should be honest with and who will help her. Abusive self-tendencies deeply rooted within her psyche and embedded with the fear Mae holds, she carries her prison wherever she goes. The bars of the prison are her soft-spoken attitude and chains around her are the fear tying them in place. Would she realize that others would believe her for once, and that some are willing to help her escape then she would be free, but for now she lives with regrets and fear deep in her heart, and hides her true intentions to escape from others, and silently cries out for freedom.

Regret is a trait that defines her, regret formed from the over confidence she shows whenever she is free to act out her small desires. Regret that all of her actions aren’t healthy in the long term and are foolish for her, regret that one day she’ll be all alone or end up somewhere undesirable because of her lack of self-control and fake self-confidence. Escapism is her drug and her future the price of admission. Thankfully her joys tend to rely on less physically destructive habits such as arcades, indoor sports, movies, and shopping, she never has much more than a small amount of money left over, the desire for material goods to replace the lost parts of her heart ever encroaching in her mind. Unable to store most of the valuables that she has in her home, she rents out public storage spaces to store them and to go and she often hangs around there to simple escape. Forced to work from a younger age as most wasn’t covered by her Aunt and Uncle, Mae has accumulated quite a bit of material possessions and covets them to the point of not showing even her friends what she has, well at least not yet.

Why hasn’t she bothered to share much about herself outside of her home life? Because she has trust issues, naturally from her past experiences. She still can talk with people and become friendly with them, and friends, but true honesty and opening herself up to anyone is beyond her hurt mind as of this point. She’s a good friend, but she’ll always ask about the other person and shrug off questions about herself with simple passable answers. Truly knowing the girl will take more effort than just being kind of throwing a few funny lines her way and will take a kind and attentive heart to move her to share secrets she would consider dangerous.

On the other hand, she is exceptionally good at keeping secrets as she knows when to keep quiet about a topic, a small positive admits the years of torment. Due to her habit of listening she is also easy to confess your own troubles on as she tends to open her heart to listen and offer some encouragement, be it from her own regret or maybe she just has a kind nature, not even Mae is certain, but she will listen. Despite being selective in her attitudes and mindful of her manners she’s always open to listening to other problems and trying to offer a bit of help, even if it just involves acknowledgement of the persons feelings and existence and nothing else.

Selective interest is possibly one of the last major traits of Mae. She doesn’t pay attention to that which doesn’t interest her, bar someone being in pain, which does from the standpoint of her also feeling the same way deep down, no Mae simply avoids that which isn’t pleasurable or interesting to her. This is why she struggles with school as she views it as a waste of time, she has already accepted she won’t have much of a future so instead she lives in the present and suffers for this foolishness in silence. Interest in people beyond company isn’t something on her mind, and trying that which is toxic to her doesn’t excite her either, rather she wants to be conscious for it since she has to glaze herself over so much at home, that the only time she feels like herself and alive is when she can consciously participate in what she loves. Perhaps the only good part about her foolishness is that, as it has prevented her from becoming addicted to substances which would ultimately leave her with no true future and would poison her personality to a level of addiction beyond recovery. Perchance one day the girl’s real attitudes may bloom, but for now she’s wilted and starving for any attention in the sun she can find.

I. Character History

» History

Born in a time of turmoil for her parents, Mae had failed in their eyes before she was born, by being a mistake. Never allowed to forget this fact within her mind, this first failure haunts Mae, sadly, to this very day. Born in South Africa, her parents are high school sweethearts who fled from their families, in Britain, to be together. Unprepared is the word to use for their excursion, as they didn’t expect the worse of what the world could bring against them, and as time started to wind on neither of them found that they particularly excelled in their chosen careers. Mae started to become a burden as their time was constrained and her parents became constantly absent from her life. Raised by day care, the few moments that Mae got to spend with her parents taught her quickly to not scream or speak up lest she suffer their wrath. Unhappy, Mae ended up suffering the brunt of it, and never understood why that was, even to this current day. Depressingly these events still haunt Mae and her soft-spoken personality has stuck with her since those times, merely as a remnant of her even younger days.

Thankfully for the young girl after but six years of her life, before she could grow too attached to those around her, she was… rescued by some social service workers and taken to other family she had, her Uncle and Aunt in law. Being moved all the way to England was a culture shock for her, mostly because she got to meet the rest of her family and found them to be just as horrible as her parents had been. Her Uncle and Aunt weren’t the nicest people and occasionally they would hit her and try to silence her just as her parents had done, but they weren’t as cruel, she wouldn’t gain any scars. Her grandparents were, the stuff of nightmares on both sides, the families hated each other and because Mae was the offspring of a marriage, they didn’t agree too she was considered the black sheep of the family, a blight on their history, something to be forgotten. Mae found finding friends in school proved harder than she initially thought, and so she didn’t gain many during her time spent in the great British Isle, rather she just sorts of, existed, drafting from day to day and trying to keep up with her studies over human interaction.

Her Aunt ands Uncle got more intolerable for the girl as time went by, because unbeknownst to her Mae’s real parents were attempting to get into contact and try to ‘acquire’ Mae again. Debating moving the Aunt and Uncle didn’t, until after one fateful night for Mae, a night where she doesn’t remember much. All Mae remembers of that night is ending up in the middle of nowhere and a bright light surrounding her briefly, then the anger of her Aunt and Uncle as she was awoken only to find them ready to hit the poor girl. After the event Mae found she could see spirits, which is something she had heard about others being able to do but couldn’t do so herself and she found that a bit exciting, but her Uncle had other plans. Deciding this was the last straw as Mae couldn’t be trusted to wander around alone, as her parents might come back, the Aunt and Uncle decided to move, and once again, this time at the age of ten, she was forced to move to another country.

Using the company, he worked for as an excuse the Uncle moved them across the world to Japan, and changed their first and last names, taking on a name that befit his mothers’ side rather than birth name. Mae of course had to change her name and she was almost forced to pick this one, mostly because her Uncle thought it was funny that it was a pun. Mae was still a bit too young to argue, but she didn’t hate it, she just wanted to finally have some peace and to escape from what her life was becoming. Having to enter school during the middle of middle school, or rather the new equivalent wasn’t easy and as you can guess Mae didn’t speak Japanese well at the time and so she had it rough, horribly so. She didn’t make any friends and spent most of her time just trying to understand everyone without the need of a book in her hands, and eventually that was the reality though to this day she sometimes still slips up in how she speaks.

While she was going through this phase of her life, trying to desperately get by, Mae developed some bad habits, mostly with how she handles money. From buying clothes to video games, to all that which is in between Mae doesn’t care how she spends what she earns, just as long as she can enjoy herself. She avoids narcotics thankfully but it doesn’t mean she has anything of savings, and frankly she finds massive regret in these actions. Her ‘job’ certainly helps but how long she can keep up the lifestyle, Mae just isn’t sure and tries to not think about it by indulging in the very actions that cause her to become more regretful. Perhaps the only hope she has now, is that after entering high school she joined a dumb “ghost hunting club” that some girls started up, mostly because she now had to join a club and it seemed the most laid back and didn’t give away any of her actual hobbies. Thus far she’s enjoyed it but she wouldn’t say she really made friends, maybe one day, but for now they are just nice people to listen to and maybe talk with occasionally, at least it gets her out of the house and doesn’t result in a smack if she comes home a bit too late.

The following is from another site, and is out of context for the most part, it was a late turning point for a character I had, and was a bit ago, but I enjoyed writing it so I wanted to use it.
